Biden, Pelosi, Schumer Screwed Up

House progressives dug in, don’t blame them. Biden, Pelosi, Schumer have lost control, gave up community college, paid family leave, drug price negotiations, Medicare expansion, and thought they could bully libs. Didn’t work.

we’re only 10 months thru the 1st term and seems that the we’re expecting a lot more from biden than we did of other presidents.  how many other administrations tackled as much this early as  his has done with successfully rolling out a nationwide vaccination program during a pandemic, getting an unprecedented rescue bill passed, cutting child poverty by 50%, restoring the protection of innumerable environmental areas and millions of acres of national preserves/lands/monuments, etc etc etc?  herding dem cats, saving the planet  and similar miracles take time.  added together the earlier rescue act, the infrastructure and the BBBill (even whittled down) comes to more than 4 Trillion.  pretty good for 1st year to out do FDR and LBJ programs combined.

The problem with the left  in this country –
They all are generals , and there are few sergeants.

Not President Biden.  This is all on the House and Senate Majority leaders.  If this keeps up the U.S.A. is toast.

The Neosane follows the age of MAGA.
When liver transplants  exploded , and we smoked a billion more cigarettes. And life expectancy crashed for 3 years.  When an unseen thing killed more cops  than a full metal jacket.
And we got    a full mental cargo sitting off Long Beach.

“Congress gave pharmaceutical companies incentives to develop “orphan drugs” for rare conditions that wouldn’t be commercially attractive. Instead, the industry has taken those incentives to develop drugs with sky-high prices. Even everyday drugs like insulin may be too expensive for many people who need them, though. Some people skip such essential medications just because they can’t afford them.
Politicians are well aware of this problem. For years, they have campaigned on drug price reform. However, there’s been no progress. We consider a drug recently approved by the FDA for Alzheimer disease. Although it doesn’t seem to be very effective at reversing cognitive decline, it is pricey. Just imagine if a drug company developed a truly effective drug for this dementia. They could charge whatever they want for it. Would it break the bank for private insurance or for Medicare?”

college schmollege.  an education starts at 3 years when the brain is still developing.  if they can’t read or think critically early on, they’ll never make it thru high school let alone college.  $550 billion for child care (which is much more than baby-sitting –  think documented great success of head start program) is a big effing deal as joe would say.

so if $550 Trill for child care development ain’t enough for you, how ’bout $555 Tr (above & beyond the 500+ billions for climate repair in the infrastructure bill) to help save the planet?

roll call via msn:

The White House announced Thursday a framework for $555 billion worth of new climate-related spending that relies heavily on tax credits and other incentives…
[…]
The White House characterized the proposal as the largest climate-related spending bill in U.S. history and said it would reduce more than a gigaton — a billion metric tons — of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
[…]
… the bulk of money allocated for climate in the framework — $320 billion — would be delivered in the form of clean energy tax credits to accelerate the transition from coal and gas-fired power plants to renewable energy sources such as wind turbines and solar panels.
That includes incentives for both utilities and their customers and support for additional transmission and storage capacity — areas where bottlenecks have hampered the development of renewable energy sources.
“These measures include enhancement and expansion of existing home energy and efficiency tax credits, as well as the creation of a new, electrification-focused rebate program,” according to materials released by the White House.
The framework includes incentives intended to cut the cost for Americans to put rooftop solar panels on their homes and make it easier to purchase electric vehicles. New EV tax credits would lower the cost of a vehicle by $12,500 for a middle-class family, according to the White House.
The framework includes $105 billion for climate resiliency and addressing legacy pollution in communities.

meanwhile, big meta news

online dictionary defines word “meta”
Meta comes from the Greek prefix and preposition meta, which means “after” or “beyond. ” When combined with words in English, meta- often signifies “change” or “alteration” as in the words metamorphic or metabolic.

But all things aside, zuck even if he  was mostly just trying to get rich, created a thing which brought joy into millions of homes.   Connecting with loved ones, finding long lost pals, long lost loved ones….it’s a veritable miracle, and a step of progress for spread of culture, communication, etc.  As usual, and as can be expected, the bad apples got in there also.  They always do.   Some kids build camps in the woods, other kids find them and tear them down. (This white supremacy thing is a last gasp by the way. )
Zuck has done well and now has to pursue growing up.

Sorry, but get drug prices and healthcare/Medicare expansion taken care of first. That speaks to the IMMEDIATE needs of all but the 1%ers. That is something that voters of both parties could get behind.

A reduced time (not 12 weeks) of family leave might also play okay well on both sides.

Free community college, while very worthwhile, isn’t on the radar for many. It could be helpful with job training, but it won’t help with educating folks out of fascist tendencies. You’ve got to start a lot younger.

Just drill down on WHO wants to allow the crazy drug prices to continue and WHY REPUBLICANS DON’T CARE about the average American who can ill-afford their prescriptions, even if they have health insurance. Insurance companies even refuse to cover some drugs…unless they’re for an off-label use. Go figure. That is the the MOST IMPORTANT thing to do. It impacts almost everyone, or at least someone in their family. It’s not an invisible problem.

more likely can get most of those left-out things done in the next 3 years if the critters will pass even a watered down version of BBBetter bill. if nothing happens (due to the purists), there won’t be any possibility of any progress after the GOPers take back majorities in both house & senate and joe will be considered by media a toasted lame duck.  there goes the whole ball of wax.

but a little bit here, a little bit there….

Hey, The voter spoke in the last election, They don’t like Trumpistas nor do they like the Democratic left and all the protestor/rioters.
The left has no power to get anything done in a 50/50 congress. They have to find allies but they aren’t smart enough to know that.
Rather than playing the keep the caucus quiet game, Democrats should have been living in WV and Arizona. Sell their ideas there and they can sell it to the world.
Your community college will sell there but a bloated wish list that nobody understands won’t.

Really…  you thought that Biden would cure everything that ails us….   geez.

Methinks we are going to have to wait until another generation takes power.  Yeah… yeah… I know.. most of us that post here will be dead by then.  In the meantime… I still haven’t been able to get back into politics from my usual summertime break.  As you said recently… life is too short.

Pat in answer to your question last Sunday.
I have access to the internet when I’m in my house in KC during the week. On weekends I go down to the new house where I have no ready access. Mostly I have little time for hanging around here.
I’m packing to move, I’ve got the easy stuff packed and stacked by the door ready to move. Now comes the hard part and it has kind of caught me by surprise. It is not volume most of the volume is packed. It is the little things each carrying a large burden of memories. I take a few off the wall or shelf, cherish the memories until I have to take a break.
Well breaktime is over back to work.

As I back away from it all, I’ve have started to realize, it is not really my problem anymore. It is time for the younger folks to step up, or not. But what ever I’m in good enough shape to survive in comfort for the rest of my life. Of course it doesn’t take much for me to live in comfort.
BTW, I did a training session last night with a couple of young people who I hope to be my neighborhood replacement. I’m hopeful.
One thing I realized as I talked to them, I’m leaving this neighborhood in much better shape than it was when I started. Even though we still have many problems.
I think that is what we all have to remember, The job is always there and you can never solve all the problems of the world. Just a few around you.
I think the hardest thing for the left to do is recognizing their wins and celebrating them.

Bernie is working hard to support Biden.  If you want to blame Dems, blame Joe “I don’t know where the hell I belong” (actual quote from a senior US Senator) Manchin, and Kyrsten “I’m finally important” Sinema
