A lot of folks have had a really long day. Louisianans, Afghanis trying to escape, military families who lost their children, medical staff treating (mostly unvaccinated) covid patients.
Thank goodness for POTUS Joe. It would be so much worse under the tyrant toddler. Heck, aside from Ida, it’s as bad as it is because of Orange Adolf. Well, removing EPA regulations may have contributed a bit more to climate change. It sure didn’t help matters.
“Does requiring vaccination violate the US Constitution, as some anti-vaxxers have insisted? Not at all, wrote Marci Hamilton and Dr. Paul Offit. “The Constitution is not a suicide pact guaranteeing a right to harm others. The government has latitude to protect citizens from deadly conditions, especially when the science supporting vaccination is so clear.”
“But we the vaccinated are still being unnecessarily exposed to the risks — however small — of illness, hospitalization, ‘long covid’ and death. We the vaccinated have to wear masks in many places like offices and airplanes where masks would probably not be required if most Americans had their shots. And the vaccinated are unfortunately also being forced to bear most of the financial costs so that some can remain refusers.”
“Let’s stop coddling the minority, and hold the unvaccinated responsible for the consequences of their own deadly decisions.”
No ICU bed for you. Vaccinated folks may need one for a different emergency.
Following the collapse of Afghanistan we will hear of casualties who were not in the war zone. They are military and civilian contractors who never entered country. They sat in chairs and did things to support the war effort. Some believed deeply in the work they were doing, coming to “own” a piece of it. Now they are dumped without so much as a kiss. Sure there will be awards and plaques, but the war will never end for them. Too bad the civilians do not get to talk to VA shrinks, they might get an understanding of how to let go of something they never had a say in or could ever influence.
They will be like Ford, cheney, rummy and others who could never let go of the bitter end of Vietnam conflict. It took them years to surface and replace Vietnam with Iraq and Afghanistan.
Now that another failed excursion is almost done we have to deal with the idiots and plans for the next war.
“Storm surge and strong winds from Hurricane Ida stopped the flow of the Mississippi River near New Orleans on Sunday and actually caused it to reverse — something the US Geological Survey says is “extremely uncommon.”
“Perrien noted that the river level on Sunday rose about 7 feet due to storm surge pushing up the river at the USGS gauge, located in Belle Chasse, about 20 miles south of New Orleans in southeastern Louisiana. “During that time, the flow of the river slowed from about 2 feet per second down to about half a foot per second in the other direction,” Perrien said.“
