Defining the new normal
Every 10 years NOAA releases a new set of “climate normals” — what is considered normal, typical or average weather in a given location at a given time of year. To ensure that these normals are not subject to the ebb and flow of yearly weather, these averages are based on 30-year time periods to even out any short-term swings. ………………………   
But some climate scientists, like Michael Mann of Penn State, don’t love the system of reporting new normals. As he told The Associated Press, Mann prefers using a constant baseline because updating what is normal for present-day conditions obscures the long-term warming trend and makes the warming due to climate change seem less significant. “Adjusting normal every 10 years perverts the meaning of ‘normal’ and ‘normalizes’ away climate change,” said Mann.

For those keeping score the “New Normal” began last Tuesday. 
 
 
 

The AA has what are called , “Speakers Meetings” . Sort a like church . The crowd , and pulpit  thing. 
There I sat  with all the drunks , watching some poor soul recount his descent into being a drunk.  Drinking -up the list .
Family, wives, children , friends , homes  , jobs , arrests , jails ……. etc. 
So at that  meeting the speaker ran through the list and paused , and I said out loud  , “And then my dog died”. 
The whole room broke into laughter, we all understood that a dog can love you  even if you’re a drunk.  And that is the end of your rope. 

So the NewsHour did  report on  why the Right has gone mad , ( even madder ). 
It turns out it’s very old reason. 
A study from the U of Chicago  on the capital invasion.  The study group was all the people arrested. 
Turns out what they fear most is being “Replaced”. 
That people of color will run the show. 
It explains a great deal about what we are seeing.  I looked for the clip , but couldn’t find it. 
A fellow at the U of C has been studying political violence for 30 years. 
Those 440 folks  are not who we think they are. 
This goes right back to slave auction block.   When the planters inspected the teeth of 20 year old black men stripped naked in irons.  These were the most expensive , like a great stud horse .
Of course these planters understood these men were a threat to to their very lives.  And violence was their only way of keeping the their upper hand. 
Then they sold off the women, in the same manner. 
White people fear  the take over of our country  by people of color .  They fear in their bones this old America Snake .  Curled around the legs of the table. 

 This is why Trump came after Obama.

I have every beer can from the entire pandemic. 
It, and   reefer  tamp down the pain. 
Body and mind. 
All that jumpin’ out of helicopters , and crashing cars and bicycles  really wares out your tie rods.
