Sunday A Cappella

Have to admit I love a capella and there is no better time than Christmas to indulge. Todays selection is a nice mix of professional and non professional. and these 5 songs are not the total nor are they necessarily the best. They are just ones that caught my attention. Please add your own.

So for your Christmas advent pleasure

Enjoy, Jack

  1. am also partial to madrigals at this time of year.  can be fun, like the one below, to participate in even if it isn’t on par with those wonderful selections jack provided.

The Madrigal Dinners at Illinois State, celebrating 54 years of performances, allows participants to enjoy an Italian feast, champagne toast and traditional and contemporary madrigal holiday singing by ISUs acclaimed Madrigal Singers.

  2. I’m not crazy about a capella but I love great singers singing without instrumental accompaniment. Great choices there, Jack.
Loved the SNL cold open last night.  But then I usually do.

  3. meant to post Friday this cartoon & op ed by cartoonist jeff darcy at Cleveland plains dealer:

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Tuesday, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited the White House to do a welfare check on Vladimir Putin’s lap dog, Donald, who had just been hit with two Articles of Impeachment.
Ukraine President Volodomyr Zelensky still remains left outside the Oval Office, looking in, apparently until he rakes up leaves and dirt on Joe Biden.
The timing of the Trump-Lavrov meeting drew attention, not only because of the ongoing Impeachment hearings. The meeting also followed the release of the Inspector General’s report that concluded the FBI had showed no bias in its investigation of Trump-Russia connections during the 2016 campaign, and that it was justified.
While the White House issued a statement claiming Trump in the meeting “warned against any Russia attempts to interfere in the United States elections,” Lavrov denied in his press conference that the issue even came up. Normally, the U.S. President would be believed over a Russian leader. But Trump is not your normal U.S. President, which is one reason he’s about to be impeached.
It’s actually fitting that Lavrov was photographed behind the grinning Trump sitting at the ‘Resolute Desk’ during the Impeachment proceedings alleging he besmirched it. Trump was not only doing his own bidding when he solicited dirt on Biden from Ukraine’s president in exchange for U.S. military aide, and an Oval Office meeting, he was also doing Russias.

  4. Just over a week ago, Pence and Sanders were in my hometown to give speeches in front of 150 people. The news said the rally included chants of “4 more years!” and when Pence spoke about the southern border chants of “BUILD THE WALL!” broke out. So good to know there are people like that where I live. 🙁

  5. There are a perhaps a surprisingly substantial number of musicians who still think it’s humorous to say “Acapulco”, as in, “We’ll sing this part acapulco”.

  6. Pat, your video is like a lot of college video, the musical talent is there but they lack the pro production quality.
but yeah madrigals are fun to listen to and sing.
Corey, it is a mixed up world with lots of mixed up people.
A man who recently started coming to our neighborhood meetings, has an Infowars bumper sticker on his mailbox yet is one of the first people on the “next door” social media site to chide his neighbors about their anti immigrant attitudes.
    lol
I’m starting to doubt this whole thing of unlimited democracy.

  7. Jake the cat didn’t bother to ask me to let him out this morning, as he usually does. . He can look out the window and see it is snowing. A few minutes ago he ask me to go out. I think he was hoping that maybe it wasn’t snowing in the back yard. He stood at the door, tail whipping in that “this is bullshit” manner that cats have, turned walked back inside and went back to bed.
Meanwhile the roads are all blocked by Chiefs fans playing bumper cars as they try to get an early start to the game.
I think I’m going to make some biscuits and gravy
    Jack

  8. Renee, an oldie but goodie.
One of my selection criteria was to stick to this decade. Which meant this fun piece didn’t make the cut.

  9. another day, another poll; but this one’s from fox.

    the hill:

A Fox News poll released Sunday found half of Americans say President Trump should be impeached and removed from office.

Fifty percent of respondents supported the president’s impeachment and removal, while four percent only backed impeachment, but not removal, and 41 percent opposed impeachment.

The statistics are largely unchanged from Fox News’s late October poll that found 49 percent backing impeachment and removal, 4 percent supporting solely impeachment and 41 percent opposing both.

In between the polls, the House Intelligence Committee held two weeks of public hearings with former and current Trump officials and the House Judiciary Committee debated and approved two articles of impeachment. The public hearings apparently did not influence voters’ views.

Trump’s approval rating also rose 3 percentage points since the last poll to 45 percent approval, while 53 percent disapproved. These numbers also remain stable from January 2019 when 43 percent backed the president and 54 disapproved.

The numbers again break down along partisan lines, with 85 percent of Democrats approving of the impeachment and removal of Trump, while 84 percent of Republicans said they were against that.

The independent support of impeachment jumped 7 percentage points to 45 percent support from October’s poll.

The poll was conducted between Dec. 8 and 11 in partnership with Beacon Research and Shaw & Company. They surveyed 1,000 registered voters, and the poll had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

  10. Observation of little import: Sears Craftsman tool chests are a deep red, burgundy color, where Craftsman tool chests sold elsewhere are more candy apple red.
Checking with co-workers finds many are preparing to spend the holidays on furlough again.  Cash is built up and spending on gifts down.  There is little trust of SFB even signing a CR.

  11. My pick for one of the Top Ten most successful recordings of all time, um…..ever.  Time for the semi-annual ritual re-installment of:

  12. bbronc, either those burgundy craftsman are knock-offs or someone goofed mixing the paint.  maybe it’s an irregular sub-brand they’ve come up with to sell in non sears stores.

as for your co-workers.  predicting the shutdown similar to predicting how bad the winter’s gonna be. it’s like watching the woolly worms coats or how high up in the trees the squirrels’ nests are.   add to gov’t workers reluctance to spend, pols & media glitterati nervous about travel plans.  it’s not all because of impeachment.  Donald is about to explode and who knows who will be hit by the shrapnel.

  13. Great music.  Thanks all y’all!

I didn’t think the SNL cold opening was really funny or even much funny.
