Silence Of The Lambs

Republicans abandoning our Constitution in the face of a would-be dictator should no longer be deemed relevant. Let History judge their enabling of treason. Impeach!

  1. But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devises against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be no more remembered.

LONDON — Britain’s highest court dealt a major blow on Tuesday to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, ruling that his controversial decision to suspend Parliament was unlawful, in a landmark decision that will have immediate implications for Britain’s departure from the European Union.
In one of the most high-profile cases to come before Britain’s Supreme Court, the 11 judges ruled unanimously that Johnson had not acted lawfully in shuttering Parliament.
The court ruled that Johnson’s decision to ask the queen to suspend Parliament essentially frustrated the ability of lawmakers to do the business of democracy, including debating Johnson’s plans for Brexit.
The ruling was a brutal one for the embattled prime minister, asserting that his move to suspend the Parliament was political maneuver, and suggesting that he might have misled Queen Elizabeth II.

    Dear Madame Speaker,

The word is spelled I-M-P-E-A-C-H-M-E-N-T. Use it.

  4. the week [click to see vid & tweets]:

In a short, scathing speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg chastised world leaders for failing the planet and its younger inhabitants, highlighted the “crystal clear” climate science, and blamed their inaction on immaturity and greed. “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction,” she said, “and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth.” Her message, which galvanized hundreds of thousands of people worldwide to take to the streets on Friday, didn’t appear to sit well at Fox News.
On Monday’s The Story, The Daily Wire‘s Michael Knowles claimed that scientists aren’t leading the fight against global warming, so why should we listen to “politicians and a mentally ill Swedish child who is being exploited by her parents and by the international left”? Fellow guest Christopher Hahn slammed Knowles for belittling Thunberg.
Fox News later said it has no plans to book Knowles as a guest anymore and called his comment “disgraceful — we apologize to Greta Thunberg and to our viewers.” Knowles stuck to his assertion that Thunberg is being exploited, and he got some support from fellow conservatives on the Fox News circuit.
Later Monday night, host Laura Ingraham compared Thunberg to a horror movie character.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson called her a manipulative “human shield.”
Then President Trump joined the mockery.
Apparently, Thunberg is used to this kind of negative attention.

Mr. Trump, Blow Us Away With Your Transparency

    Please.

    […]

This time, lawmakers seem disinclined to tolerate such presidential contempt. In a letter on Sunday to fellow House Democrats, Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned, “If the administration persists in blocking this whistle-blower from disclosing to Congress a serious possible breach of constitutional duties by the president, they will be entering a grave new chapter of lawlessness which will take us into a whole new stage of investigation.”
Ms. Pelosi gave the administration a deadline of Thursday, when Mr. Maguire is set to appear before the House Intelligence Committee, to turn over the whistle-blower’s “full complaint” and to “establish a path for the whistle-blower to speak directly to the House and Senate Intelligence Committees as required by law.”
In addition to Mr. Graham, Senator Mitt Romney, Republican of Utah, called on Mr. Trump in a Sunday tweet to end the stonewalling: “If the President asked or pressured Ukraine’s president to investigate his political rival, either directly or through his personal attorney, it would be troubling in the extreme. Critical for the facts to come out.”
Critical indeed. This should not be a partisan issue. Lawmakers from both parties have an interest, and a duty, in making clear that any president, in accordance with the law, is accountable to Congress.

He says he has instructed his officials to prepare for the resumption of the work of the Commons

  7. i think it’s important to respect the will of American voters and continue to allow Republicans to undermine our Constitution and make us a national 2nd-rate laughing-stock.

  8. the hill:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) leads the pack of Democratic presidential candidates in New Hampshire, according to a new Monmouth University poll of the state, overtaking former Vice President Joe Biden and her top progressive rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
The poll shows Warren with 27 percent support among registered New Hampshire Democrats and unaffiliated voters who are likely to vote in the crucial first-in-the-nation primary on Feb. 11, a significant increase from the 8 percent support she received in Monmouth’s last Granite State poll in May.
Biden, meanwhile, saw the largest drop in support over the past four months, plummeting from 36 percent to 25 percent in the most recent survey. Sanders, who previously held the second-place spot behind Biden, registered at 12 percent in the most recent poll, down from 18 percent in May.
Only one other candidate, South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, notched double-digit support in Monmouth’s latest New Hampshire poll, coming in at 10 percent.
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who has seen her polling numbers decline in recent weeks, finished in fifth place in the most recent New Hampshire poll with 3 percent support. That’s down from 6 percent in May.

    […]

It also comes as a poll out Tuesday shows Warren moving to within the margin of error on Biden in Nevada.

[continues to say NH margin of error 4.9% and other things]

Grand Old Perverts– justice and Democracy are the things they like to pervert themost (and young staffers too)

  10. also from the hill:

Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire and Michael Atkinson, the intelligence community inspector general, will meet with the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, according to the top Democrat on the panel.
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) told reporters on Tuesday that the two men will brief the Senate committee separately in the wake of a whistleblower complaint reportedly linked to President Trump‘s actions toward Ukraine.

    […]

Maguire is also expected to testify before the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday.

  11. Now start running tv ads about tillis, collins, cornyn, mcconnell, et al supporting trump’s latest russkie corruption/collusion/conspiracy/coverup & treason. Gotta make it scarier to support trump than to remove him.

  12. I think Bernie and Joe suffer from the same thing.    They were both home to a lot of undecideds.  Now people are making up their minds.

  13. I agree w/Ms Cracker.
Unfortunately, now trump has 13 1/2 months to focus his smear machine on Warren.

  14. It’d be nice if trumpco had to pee away resources on multiple targets. Bernie! seems to be moving to more extreme positions. That’ll provide great cover for Warren. If the ‘squad’ can act up a little, that’ll be good for her, too – as long as she doesn’t rub up against them.
Maybe she can have a ‘summit meeting’ with William Weld. That would be fantastic for both of them, while making trump explode like an atomic-powered russian drone.

  15. Maybe have bill kristol and max boot host a “Purity Summit.”

The word “Purity” would make both trump and the So Baptist NeoConvention go off like thermonukes. Mayhappen the Dissemblers of Gawd, also.

  16. “Me thinks Liz can handle this“-CC

-not without a talented, sophisticated staff and a lot of PAC support to do the dirty-work, can she.

  17. X-R, about your suggestion for lizzie to cozy up to weld, wouldn’t it be interesting if whoever the dem nominee is surprises folks by seeking an acceptable moderate GOPer (if the specie is not extinct) for Veep in order to unify the country?

  18. neither sleet nor snow nor dark of night nor don the con?

    the guardian:

Donald Trump’s threat to pull the United States out of the global postal system could lead to a “nightmare scenario” of mail going undelivered, packages piling up and American stamps no longer being recognised abroad, the UN postal agency has warned.
The Universal Postal Union (UPU) has been holding an emergency meeting in Geneva to persuade Washington not to follow through on a threat to quit the agency, which sets rules to ensure mail gets delivered around the globe.
The Trump administration says it wants to charge other countries more than UPU rules now permit to have letters and packages delivered in the United States, arguing that the current system unfairly benefits China.
It has set a deadline of next month for rates to be raised or it will quit.
“It is really a nightmare scenario,” the UPU’s secretary-general, Bishar Hussein, told a news conference, noting that no country had ever left since the agency was founded nearly 150 years ago. It now has 192 members.
“If the United States leaves, you’ll get those piles, because somehow every country has to figure out how to send mail to the United States… A major disruption is on the way if we don’t solve the problem today.”
Were the United States to quit the UPU, US stamps would no longer be valid abroad, he said. He said he was “very optimistic” that a compromise could be reached.
“A departure of the United States from the union would mean there is a total disruption of the service to the country,” Hussein said.
The UPU is one of the oldest international organisations, set up in 1874 to ensure that mail could be delivered anywhere on earth. It establishes a system for calculating the fees, known as “terminal dues”, that countries collect from each other to deliver mail that arrives from abroad.

  19. Blacks and Hispanics make up 25% of us. 52 % of us are women. If the Dem candidate gets 55% of the female and minority vote, the rippers need to win 2/3 of the white male vote. That won’t happen.

That said, Dems have to dig out every last vote to get their job done right !

  20. Ms Pat, seeking a ripper running mate would be a great attention grabber. It could push trump off the front page 3 days a week for a month just before the convention. That would give the rapist, racist, russian tool several ulcers. He’d have to something really outrageous to elbow his way back in front of the cameras. Like maybe, pick sara palin as his running mate.

However, actually finding a running mate amongst rippers, even the ‘never trumpers’ would enrage half to 2/3 of the Dem base and a lot of deserving Dem sens, reps, govs and mayors. I wouldn’t advise it.

Gawwd, how I love that edit button !

  21. Better yet, look for a possible ripper running mate during the rapeblikkklan convention !

Have Warren make well-publicized private talks with C.J. John Roberts, and then A.J. clarence thomas. “I sounded out the Chief Justice about how he’d feel being a Vice President.” Imagine the media WHOOP-DEE-DOO about that !

  22. Craig – Moscow Bernie is an angry old man.

Now that Speaker Pelosi found a bit of brass gonads, we should have a bit of excitement.  Although I do not give SFB credit for thinking up all the horrible actions taken under his name, I do expect him to understand what is going to happen now when Miller takes his little dolls and demonstrates castration of numb nuts.

  23. At last, breaking news that is actually news!  Now, who else was involved?  Jarrrred?  Ivanker?  Pious Pence?  Roll ‘em all up and toss ‘em out.

Jamie, That pic of Dumb Donald & Greta The Mighty is fantastic!

  24. Craig,

I think that except for the bots and trolls, the Bernie Bros seem to be disappearing.  They may be getting the message, that he is basically useless and are moving to Liz.  Then there is the matter that she was asked if the 2016 nomination of Hillary was “rigged” and she answered yes.  That antipathy to Hillary isn’t helping her.

  25. Interesting little Windows 10 function (I finally found) is to remove the extra blue from the computer display.  Right click on your display, a bit down you will see “Display Settings”.  Click on that and you will see “Night Light” click it on and the extra blue goes away.  Instant geezeress happiness.

  26. Liz is the real deal and communicates her message better than Bernie.   The move is toward Warren & the moderates can suck it.

  27. patd – never trust a con man.  The transcript of the phone call might not be the evidence.

In search of geezerhood I am trying to watch episodes of Murder She Wrote.  It is not going well in the search.  I still have the same reaction I had when it was first run.  Which is why I only had to see it when visiting.

Time to watch something more fun.

  28. When this Fake lack of depth 25th attempt to derail the rebuilding of America becomes the next failed attempt to blow up Trump fails,  what will you dream of next?
Look in the mirror ……….  Look at your 401K…….  This is why the losers that cannot get over the massive failure of HILLARY keep trying to attack one of the BEST PRESIDENTS EVER !!!
SO WEAK THE DEMOCRATS FOR 2020……  Simply a JOKE
    The Ping

  29. The Dems have the weakest class of candidates ever in history, so let’s attack Trump, certainly not perfect, but the only approach we have……  Should have gone with the Starbucks guy….
    Bye Bye Dems in 2020

  30. Pong, no president who was impeached in American history has successfully sought re-election following his impeachment in the House and acquittal in the Senate. Of course the potential number those who could have is one. But still…

Best President ever? What you smoking, son? Got any to spare?
