  1. excerpt from heavy: Pennsylvania’s 18th District Special Election: Live Results

    […]

Some people manning the polls said there was good turnout. “We’ve gotten a lot of voters today, and we’re really surprised,” said Judi Kemis to Daily Item.com. She is a judge of elections for polling at South Central Elementary School in Canonsburg. “We’ve had a lot of young people, fresh 18-year-old voters.”

    [….continues…]

  2. If you’re interested in the November elections ( and who isn’t?) keep an eye on Allegheny County. It’s the burbs of Pittsburgh. Strong turnout there will make the difference in the race.

( and what the shit is this? “You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.”)

  3. another question, will the twit take back his steel tariff promise to them if they don’t turn out for him?  even if they do, I bet he backs off anyway and whims up another distraction to cover the backing off.

  4. Greene county won’t tell you shit. It’s the most rural of the four counties in that district – not a lot different from WV. Washington County is more populous, being about 30 miles or so outside of Pittsburgh (Palazzo 1837 is a great little restaurant there). Westmoreland County is similar to Allegheny but it’s not quite as urban.

  5. Holy crap. The early results from Greene County has Lamb ahead of Saccone. Saccone has got to be nervous about it at this point. Greene County should be solidly red.

  6. Tom Perez doing his best Bob Fosse dancing around the question that if Lamb is successful (who said he did not support Pelosi) would the Dems incorporate this Nancy-distancing strategy where it might be successful. Perez never answered this, one way or the other.

Spinning plates is next on the program.

  7. SJ, yes, I saw Perez doing that dance as well. Pelosi is as big a loser as Trump tonight. She needs to make it clear that she will not stand for election as Speaker if the Democrats win in November.

  8. Sj, While you and Craig. may think Pelosi is a big loser tonight, Perez is not going to throw her under the bus. The chair of the Democratic national committee is not gonna do that considering her power in the party and her ability to raise money for the party.

    Meanwhile, Suckone is shitting himself.

  9. So far the biggest loser tonight is not Nancy Pelosi. So far the biggest loser tonight is SFB – by a long shot.

  10. A big significance of this race is whether Democrats can add white working class/blue collar (whatever you wanna call them) voters to the wave of suburban women and expanded black turnout we saw earlier in Virginia, Alabama and New Jersey. If so, hello tidal wave.

  11. Who else beside Pelosi should be retired for the Dems? Whose names are guaranteed gold in whipping up a crowd when a GOP candidate needs a fix? Lightning rods keep the barn from burning down but by nature they attract the danger to begin with.

  12. Poobah, Lamb might be able to do that, but that ain’t going to be the model nationwide. At least not unless the Democratic Party puts a lot of Lambs out there & I don’t see that.

My take on this is that what it shows is that with SFB present as the closer in this race, it just goes to show that assholes don’t have coattails.

  13. Pogo,

Perez did not answer the question one way or the other. That is significant & telling. He had a chance & he didn’t.

  14. If there’s anybody who needs “going after” it’s republicans, not democrats. Lamb can take his victory and be a democrat.

  15. No matter who wins, the President is still President – at least for now. He does not care about who the candidates are; he cares only for himself & what said candidates can do for him. I think he actually despises politics & politicians but it is a ways to  a means in keeping himself relevant & in the news, & any publicity is good publicity. It’s when they stop talking about you you’re in trouble. The difference between WINNING! & LOSER. There’s not much there there in this man but he understands this.

  16. Poobah,  I hear ya but if you think the SW PA voter cares more about Nancy than SFB, you don’t know SW PA well. I contend that this is a referendum on the only national political “leader” who showed to campaign for a candidate in the district. And that would be, drumroll please, SFB. I hope the WH has him busily campaigning in swing districts in Nov.

    1. What the f_k diet is Tobin on?  If it doesn’t eat you eat it?

    and

    2.  Santorum?  WTF is CNN thinking?  They think a__holes play well in prime time?  They don’t.

  17. What’s scary? Reports that John Bolton is on a short list for a big job in the WH as the President continues to shake up, spindle & mutilate his Cabinet.

  18. But Pogo, Connor Lamb apparently disagrees with you, thinks she mattered to voters. He aggressively ran against keeping Pelosi in power. Think I will side with the guy who figured out how to win this race.

  19. Ok, Biden made an appearance for Lamb ( forgive me I forgot). And it ain’t Toobin. (Forgive me)

  20. Poobah, one of the 3 major local channels I watch is a CBS affiliate from Pittsburgh. There has been a little coverage of the Pelosi remark and there was a shitload of coverage of SFB’s appearance for Suckone. The Pelosi thing may mean something in Westmoreland – lotta ‘necks there- but it’s not the same in the burbs of Allegheny County. And it’s virtually tied now.

  21. Question is …. will the Powers That Be in the Democratic Party get that a simple winning strategy is recruit the Candidate that fits the area, knows the voters, & supports them. Gee, just like real life in a real neighborhood in a real town.

  22. Pogo, if Pelosi was out of the picture Lamb would have put this race to bed when the polls closed. The issue of the midterms: Whether Trump drags Republicans down more than Pelosi drags down Democrats.

  23. Lamb and the guy who won in Alabama both had the winning strategy of being decent democrats instead of reprehensible republicans who support or emulate trump

    if lamb wins, that is.

  24. You guys should watch more Fox. You have no idea how much they are focusing their voters on Pelosi and how much she delivers video clips that make her look foolish that other channels never cover.

  25. Lessee, Poobah. Who do you think has a bigger effect on voters- Pelosi or SFB?  Pelosi is a big deal for the Fox News crowd. SFB is a big deal for everyone else. My math (I failed calculus) sez the prez wins the biggest anchor award.

  26. The Foxnews crowd hates Pelosi because she’s a liberal woman, and they’ll find a reason just as inane to hate whomever the Democrats choose to replace her.

  27. If you get rid of her Fox will simply tie a rope to a new anchor.  Do you get rid of them too?

    Its their job.

  28. But Bink, Sturg, if she announced she will not run for Speaker then FOX has no one to focus on. Makes the midterms only about Trump. Schumer also a bit toxic but not as much.

  29. Capitulation to and appeasement of facist thugs?  Yeah, it will probably come to that- you’re right.

  30. Doesn’t matter what we think about Pelosi. The fact that the head of the DNC deliberately sidestepped a question about her influence good/bad on voters, did not speak up for her, speaks volumes. This wasn’t any FOX viewer. This was Tom Perez.

  31. If CC’s inference is true, then the key to Democratic gains is the deliberate exploitation of misogynistic attitudes in undereducated low-middle income voters.

    Hooray.

  32. Agreed SJWNY. I understand the Democratic leadership’s dilemma. Nancy is likeable, genuinely progressive and a helluva fundraiser. But on TV she is a complete disaster and has become a target that cannot be erased.

  33. Any Democrat could run into a busy street & pull a person to safety, saving a life. FOX would run a caption stating that said Democrat was blocking traffic. It’s a fascinating social experiment on the division of our politics. They denote a boogeyman & place it under everyone’s bed, feeding fear quite skillfully.

  34. This Drew Miller is a spoiler 😉

In case of a tie, oh golly I hope they decide by a duel. Just like Andrew Jackson did with just about everything.

  35. Conversely, if running against their own leadership wins Democrats races, why replace her?

  36. Mr Crawford, this may be the face of the future for winning Candidates. Whatever you have to be, be it to get it done.

  37. Wait, this race hasn’t even been called, yet?  Did we not learn our lesson, already?!  Omg.

  38. A pro lie, pro gun, anti Pelosi candidate with a (D) following his name as opposed to a pro life, pro gun, anti Pelosi asshole with an (R) following his name. I’ll take the (D) every day thank you very much.

  39. Using the current averages in the 3 remaining counties and applying them to the absentee ballots, Lamb should win by about 200 votes.

As Kornacki is pointing out Suckone has to overperform in all 3 counties by about 6% over what he did at the polls. Long shot.

  40. trump toxicity is in the air, so Dems don’t have to dwell on it. Better to run on healthcare, leveling the playing field, improved education, raging maniacs buying guns and ammo/school safety, prison reform, yadda, yadda, yadda.

  41. Another ex-Russian person found dead in his London home. He was an associate of the Russian who was almost killed with poison last week.  Looks like FSB wetwork team is very busy.

  42. Capitulation to and appeasement of facist thugs?  Yeah, it will probably come to that- you’re right.”

    bink, sad, but probably true.

Midterm strategy: Run local. Fit the electorate.”

craig, let’s hear it for going localvore (or is that loco-veer?)  buy local, eat local and vote local.

  43. business insider:

Pennsylvania state Rep. Rick Saccone, the Republican candidate in the special election for Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District, reportedly accused the Democratic party of being galvanized by “hatred for our country” and “hatred for God,” during a rally in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania on Monday.

the hopefully new democratic congressman will henceforth be referred to as “the lamb of ungodly”

  44. cbs news:
Absentee ballots in key county leave Lamb in lead
6:05 a.m.: Unofficial results of the counting of absentee ballots in Washington County, which is considered crucial, have Conor Lamb with 609 votes and Rick Saccone with 547, CBS Pittsburgh reports, enabling Lamb to add slightly to his slim lead.

Saccone to attempt a run in another district if he doesn’t win
Saccone will submit petitions on March 20th to run in the 14th congressional district, should he lose his bid in the 18th district, CBS News’ Nicole Sganga reports.
Saccone will be in legal meetings all Wednesday — he is not expected to concede.

Stephen Hawking, modern cosmology’s brightest star, dies aged 76

The physicist and author of A Brief History of Time has died at his home in Cambridge. His children said: ‘We will miss him for ever’

  46. Woke up to the news of Stephen Hawking’s passing. Sorry to hear that – we don’t often have minds so great as his.

Also woke to the apparent  win of Connor lamb. That’s good news if it holds up through the idiotic Washington county absentee ballot count. Steve Kornacki this morning was reviewing the elections that occurred since SFB was elected. If there is one thing that the Republicans should be able to see  it’s that SFB hurts candidates. If there’s another thing I should take from this it’s that crappy candidates are not going to win. Duh.

  47. Agreed. No Nancy for Speaker, nothing for Tea-Pugz to make a fuss.  (She’s not popular among any but the staunchest Dems.)

RIP Stephen Hawking:  Black holes emit radiation and will eventually evaporate and disappear.   Let’s hope the same holds true for our Russian/Koch/NRA-owned elected seat holders…as that it doesn’t take that long to happen.

The just found a box of ballets here  from last week’s election.  The system needs to be overhauled.

Fingers crossed for Lamb.   I hate it when it’s close. It just makes it easier for the whiny-assed Repugz to make a ruckus.

  48. I’ve been rude to Tom Perez here but if he brings fresh ideas, fresh air & more importantly new people to his Party I apologize & will be supportive. Encouraging was his not auto-rote defense of Pelosi last night & again this morning on NPR when the host asked him about whether Dem candidates should distance themselves from her. Time for a new outlook & new faces – voters are tired of the usual suspects. Ease out the old, gracefully & with respect for their service: Thank You. Then encourage & cultivate new blood. It’s the future. Voters are willing to take that chance if offered.

  49. Resistance: Fight. Back.

We’re the majority. Let’s act like it.

Now there’s a motto for the Dems. Beats the heck out of A Better Deal.

  50. Ease out the old, gracefully & with respect for their service: Thank You. Then encourage & cultivate new blood. It’s the future.

    sj…   AMEN!

On a local note…   we had our town election yesterday.  More people showed up to vote than expected despite the 20 inches of snow (we’re expecting another 5 today).  There was a faction (think SFB supporting tea partiers) who were trying to get elected to various positions in order to slash the town budget to bare bones.  They were defeated overwhelmingly.  We passed warrants to get another police officer and to buy a new fire truck.  Yeah…  we hate paying high property taxes…  but we want a good town to live in.  So glad so many voters here agreed.

  51. Fox News Sued by Seth Rich’s Parents Over “Exploitation” of His Death

Joel and Mary Rich say they have PTSD because of a Fox News story they claim painted their son as a traitor.

The parents of murdered Capitol Hill staffer Seth Rich are suing Fox News for emotional distress, claiming its coverage of the crime painted their son as a traitor and has prevented them from properly dealing with his death.

[….continues including copy of the complaint….]

  52. AP:
Update: Britain is expelling 23 Russian diplomats after the nerve agent attack on a former Russian spy — the single biggest such expulsion since the Cold War.
Prime Minister Theresa May told the House of Commons on Wednesday that Russia has expressed “disdain” for Britain’s wish for an explanation into the attempted murder of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. She said Russia’s actions “represent an unlawful use of force.”
May said the Russian diplomats have a week to leave Britain. She also announced a range of economic and diplomatic measures, including a decision to cancel all high-level bilateral contacts with Russia and to ask the royal family not to attend the soccer World Cup in Russia. Russia has denied responsibility in the March 4 attack on the Skripals.

  53. Lotta coincidences re: Hawking’s birth and death.  I know of people who don’t believe in coincidences.

But now, back to politics.  Robert Costa has an interesting analysis over at Wapo today.

Pennsylvania vote shows that Trumpism has its limits — even in Trump country

The neck-and-neck result in Tuesday’s special congressional election in a reliably Republican Pennsylvania district revealed that the appetite for President Trump’s style of politics may have its limits in the land of shuttered steel mills and coal mines that has been the core of his support base.

The president went all in for Republican candidate Rick Saccone, a seemingly safe bet in a district Trump had carried by 20 percentage points in 2016.
Trump visited there twice in recent weeks. He dispatched his eldest son. He sent top White House aides. Yet, with all that political capital on the line, the president watched his favored candidate finish, in effect, in a tie in what should have been an easy win.

The razor-thin vote count — three months after Democrats picked up a U.S. Senate seat in deeply conservative Alabama and coming on a whirlwind day when Trump tried to wrangle control of his administration by ousting his secretary of state — left Republicans feeling jittery just months ahead of the midterm elections.

    ***

“We should be able to elect a box of hammers in this district. If we’re losing here, you can bet there is a Democratic wave coming,” said veteran Republican consultant Mike Murphy, a Trump critic.

Uncertainty now pervades the party that Trump leads.

    ***

To Trump allies, the poor showing Tuesday was not a reflection on the president, but instead a reminder that the GOP should be embracing candidates who emulate the unscripted former reality TV star in the Oval Office.

    ***

Democrats, meanwhile, after stumbling in several elections last year and seeing anti-Trump liberals dominate their ranks, found themselves rallying behind Lamb, a polished and decidedly centrist candidate who said he is personally opposed to abortion and averse to aspects of gun control.

Lamb often echoed Trump’s views on trade, in effect stealing back an issue that Democrats have used for decades to rally working-class voters. He raised more money than Saccone and deftly handled questions about Pelosi, promising to oppose her in a leadership race. He associated with Democrats like former vice president Joe Biden, who campaigned in the district.

“It’s that old, western Pennsylvania conservative Democrat that Lamb was able to bring back,” said Patrick Caddell, a longtime Democratic pollster.

Costa kinda brings home points I tried to make yesterday and acknowledges teh point Poobah made about Pelosi.  I hesitate to be too optimistic, but SFB has now gone all in on two consecutive races and all that he’s been able to do is demonstrate that he doesn’t have the sway to even bring out the voters who voted for him in those districts.  Like I said yesterday – what he’s shown us is that assholes don’t have coattails.

  54. from bbc:
Moscow refused to meet Mrs May’s midnight deadline to co-operate in the case, prompting Mrs May to announce a series of measures intended to send a “clear message” to Russia.
    Among them are:

The expulsion of 23 diplomats – who have one week to leave
Increased checks on private flights, customs and freight
The freezing of Russian state assets where there is evidence they may be used to threaten the life or property of UK nationals or residents
Ministers and Royal Family to boycott the Fifa World Cup in Russia later this year
The suspension of all planned high level bi-lateral contacts between the UK and Russia

what will we do now?  punt?

  55. Pennsylvania vote shows that Trumpism has its limits

Yep…  and the candidacy of Lamb says that purity test ala Bernie Sanders for Democrats had better be dead.  The Republicans are nominating far alt right candidates that are losing in the special elections.  Most polls show that the majority of voters in this country are center left.  Get with the message Democrats!…  far left candidates ain’t gonna win you back a majority.

  56. I don’t think we should get rid of Nancy P but if we did who would replace her?

  57. Katherine Graham Cracker,

There are many people who could replace Pelosi. Good hard working dedicated individuals whose time has come to shine. Who are they? Precisely. Unknowns to the outside because they have been held back by celeb-iticians. Pelosi should have been shunted aside after 2010 when instead of working to continue Democratic dominance she was out pimping her book. I’d like to meet the women & men in the trenches who have 2018 ideas & a modern perspective. Time for change, way overdue. Stale is stale.

  58. Stephen Hawking woke up in Heaven, and boy was he pissed.

Rest in peace, Doc. We’re going to miss you.

  59. Thoughts

The Unions went oh shit, after sitting out 2016 and helping Trump get elected. They maybe uncomfortable with the tag they are carrying, “racist A-holes” But they earned it and they will live  with it a long time. The United mine workers, were the most pathetic, they set out 2016. Reason for going hard for Lamb, he promised to protect their pensions, lol. This is after Obama and the Democrats busted ass in 2009 saving union pensions across the country. What did it get them from the “racist A-holes”? Nada.

Fact is if Dems can make the suburban educated move,  unions are going to feel a bit lonely out there.

    Jack

  60. SJ

Stale kinda defines the position of Speaker of the House.  Or committee chairman as far as that goes. After all it is the ability to keep getting elected and not die that qualifies any of the above.

As to her coming or going, given the clueless nature of the Democratic left wing, She would just be replaced with someone equally qualified and maybe even a better poster child for the Republicans.

But yeah, I’m ready for some new ideas.

    Jack

  61. Lamb should thank Winnebago for his win last night. After all if all those retire union Trump supporters weren’t cruising in their RVs for the winter he would have lost.

    Jack

  62. I say the 18th is a big win for Dems because these people haven’t voted Dem since Al Gore ran

    SJ

Your analysis of why the Dems lost in 2010 is way off base. It wasn’t Nancy P’s book tour that did it.   She is a great and inclusive organizer and a money raising machine.    The Democratic Congressional Caucus is made up of folks some of whom are way far to the right of Nancy P and yet she can bring them together to pass things.   She is not a celebrity pol.   The Dems in congress would be in far worse shape without her.

Just because the maroons target her is no reason to get rid of her.

  63. x-r

I saw an interview with an x-CIA guy who said she enjoyed it.    That’s a terrible image

  64. Nancy Pelosi has earned her place…..there is not, nor has there been scandal, only hard work against so far insurmountable odds.  But as we see……the odds are in a tectonic shift.

Right is right…….she’s earned her place.  Perhaps we could find some Republicans to rail against, and leave the democrats alone with their honest platform for unions, gun sense, female and gender rights, taxes, the middle class in general, stopping Putin,  and all the coming hard work there is to do for achieving those goals, with a Speaker in place who knows the score.

I didn’t like it when all this was directed toward Hillary, and I don’t like it now that it’s turned inward toward Speaker Pelosi.

“They” try to cut her down because she is effective and adroit.
Perhaps “we” could rally behind her instead of doing “their” work for them.

  65. Who’s, by the way, going to take her place……another wrinkle-ass old white man?

    No Thanks.

  66. Just sayin’ the only reason Conor Lamb attacked Nancy P was to prevent an attack by the goopers.   I predict he votes for her and in private apologizes.

San Francisco values are American values

  67. I highly recommend reading Ross Thomas although dated his books give a pretty good idea of how the CIA interfered in other country’s election.   Thomas makes it all very witty and not too dangerous.   I love all his books

  68. Wiki
Ross Thomas (February 19, 1926 in Oklahoma City – December 18, 1995 in Santa Monica, California) was an American writer of crime fiction. He is best known for his witty thrillers that expose the mechanisms of professional politics. He also wrote several novels under the pseudonym Oliver Bleeck about professional go-between Philip St. Ives.
Thomas served with the infantry in the Philippines during World War II.[1] He worked as a public relations specialist, correspondent with the Armed Forces Network,[1] union spokesman, and political strategist in the USA, Bonn (Germany), and Nigeria before becoming a writer.[2]
His debut novelThe Cold War Swap, was written in only six weeks and won a 1967 Edgar Award[3] for Best First Novel. Briarpatch earned the 1985 Edgar for Best Novel.[2] In 2002 he was honored with the inaugural Gumshoe Lifetime Achievement Award, one of only two authors to earn the award posthumously (the other was 87th Precinct author Ed McBain in 2006).
In addition to his novels, Mr. Thomas also wrote an original screenplay for producer Robert Evans entitled Jimmy the Rumour.[4] The project is the story of a man born without an identity who works as a thief stealing from other thieves.

  69. You’ll not find many fictional characters to match Artie Wu, Quincy Durant, and “Otherguy” Overby.
Aside from Philip St. Ives, the following characters appear in more than one novel:

Cyril “Mac” McCorkle, former Army special-operations officer in WW2 Burma and now pub owner in Bonn and Washington, DC, and his polyglot business partner/friend Michael Padillo, spy/executioner for an unnamed government agency, are in The Cold War Swap,Cast a Yellow ShadowThe Backup Men, and Twilight at Mac’s Place. Padillo appears briefly in The Seersucker Whipsaw, tending bar as “Mike.”
Artie Wu and Quincy Durant, con men/adventurers, and their associate MauriceOtherguy” Overby are in Chinaman’s ChanceOut on the RimVoodoo, LtdBooth Stallings, expert on terrorism, and Georgia Blue, cashiered Secret Service agent, join them in the latter two.
Howard Mott, a Washington Lawyer, has cameo roles or is mentioned in several novels.
Ione Gamble, an actress, is a central character in “Voodoo, Ltd.” and is mentioned in Ah, Treachery!.
Draper Haere, political rainmaker, is a central character in Missionary Stew and is mentioned in Ah, Treachery.
Minor Jackson and Nicolae Ploscaru, central characters in The Eighth Dwarf, are mentioned in Ah, Treachery.
Chubb Dunjee is the protagonist of The Mordida Man and is mentioned in Voodoo, Ltd.
Boy” Howdy is mentioned in two of the Wu/Durant books, one of them Out On The Rim, but might be two different characters.

  70. The mere Title of one of his books brings to mind our pres

THE FOOLS IN TOWN ARE ALL ON OUR SIDE.

Ttitle being taken, of course, from Twain.

  71. Basket of Deplorables Part Deux: Electric Boogaloo

Well, if Hillary’s trip to India was meant to be part of her road to recovery/2020 tour, she really put her foot in it, and, she’s mucking it up for Dems.  Please, don’t help.

  72. it’s a puzzlement: liberals tend to attack and eat their own requiring purity; but conservative m.o. is to bait and bleed their opponents, dividing and making the other side weaker while overlooking blatant faults and inconsistencies in their own candidates.

  73. Look, first, “we” don’t get rid of any ex speaker speaker or prospective speaker.  Interested reps run for the position and the caucus votes for their choice to lead them.  So all this talk of getting rid of Nancy, while entertaining, is just talk. If there’s a wave that puts dems in a position to conduct investigations and start impeachment proceedings we will cross that leadership bridge.   I don’t know who else might stand a chance to become speaker other than Nancy, although there are quite a few wrinkled ones in the seniority chain, both men and women, plus a few who aren’t so wrinkled.  I’d be good with a Clyburn or Sanchez as Speaker, but I want Schiff right where he is but as chair of the Intel committee.

  74. Nancy P. is the absolutely best person to engineer a functional House after a successful 2018 election.  She knows where the bodies are buried and how to make them sit up and vote correctly anyway.  At her age, she is also probably more than ready to groom and install her replacement while she can.  It would pay for all Dem office holders to be very nice to the lady.

  75. the goopers have run any one with an opposing view out of their party or shut them up  Lincoln Chaffee, Christie Todd Whitman and all people in power do what people in power do…try to hold on to it

  76. Katherine Graham Cracker,

Of course the Book Tour wasn’t the only reason for the 2010 debacle. But she ended up looking really bad afterwards, more interested in Nancy Inc than being a Leader.

I just thought it was really interesting to observe Tom Perez’ non-answer last night & again this morning when her name was brought up. Perhaps plans for the future have already been made …. people don’t last or live forever.

  77. SJ

2010 was a time when the goopers really made a target out of her and she was asked not to campaign.    She did not look bad and was re-elected leader

The last thing she is interested in is personal wealth or power she already has both

  78. Again, I think it was very interesting what the DNC Leader didn’t say (when given the opportunity) that was telling. That was the main point last night & this morning. It’s above us.

  79. Pogo…..yup…….but “chatter”,  as the Russian bots all know, creates a “buzz”, no?

  80. Blue collar trump voters did leave him.

RR made the biggest point – which candidates need to be able to be local.

  81. I’d think it’d be a natural thing for Perez to just keep his trap shut when there is no good reason not to, just because whoever it was asking just wanted to create a stir.

  82. The McCabe drama is personal dickness but also is a message to all who cross paths with #45. The effect must be chilling in the marble halls of greater Washington, which is the point.

  83. And how bout old trey gowdy trying his best to get the polecat scent off…….

I heard somewhere that tomato juice would do it.

  84. That house intel deal is wading in deep sewage…..

Mantra for the GOP House intel committee members:

    “Dooooon’t make a waaave…..”

  85. Sturgeone,

When respected competent journalists can’t ask legitimate questions than that should be considered a stir on freedom & democracy. Both hosts asked the question because it was part of the story, not to be titillating or gin up whatever. Actually Perez’ non answer raised more questions than it answered. Don’t blame the messenger here.

  86. Sturg, you heard wrong.  I can state with great certainty (based on personal experience) a combination of tomato juice then washing the animal with pet shampoo just makes the critter smell like a polecat with a side of marinara.

  87. fox news really ?  I didn’t know they had competent journalists –and if they do Bill Hemmer isn’t one of them

why would he give ammuniation to fake issue being promoted by the propoganda arm of the goopers

  88. oh wait you are talking about Dana Bash and CNN– why should he answer their question which is a product of the gop– not answering was smarter in the long run

Nancy P has worked hard, worked her way up the ladder and has done a good job.  Why do you think she should be replaced aside from her age

  89. shouldn’t the conversation about Perez also include a discussion of the GOP ad which was the lead-in to the question.

  90. 49ers values ! Don’t mention Giants values, ‘cuz that could arouse anger among the seniors in NYC.

  91. Connor Lamb does not support the Pelosi agenda on gun control or abortion rights

I think I prefer the old leadership on these issues

  92. Everybody be lookin’ at trey gowdy out the side of they eye……

they all givin’ him the side-eye…..

  93. Tea party Trey…yikes.   I wonder if he would like to revisit some of his Benghazi statements

  94. KC, they may play in Santa Clara but they still call themselves the San Francisco 49ers.  By all accounts the move was a mistake.  I’m betting the Yorks are kicking themselves over that move.

  95. Ya know as a leader Pelosi got the job done when she was Speaker. It was the Senate and the president who piddled around and lost everything.

It doesn’t make any difference who is speaker The attack machine roll on.

As to Perez not answering the question, well duh, Why would he? it is a Republican talking point and he had his own to trot out. “local, big tent, working mans friend, ” you know that stuff as a result, nobody is talking about him but are concentrated on the Republicans and poking holes in their spin.

    Jack

  96. Biden could really help get blue collar workers back.  He never forgot where he came from or how to speak the language.  He still feels it.

  97. Will Nikki Haley last after she sided with the UK with regard to Russia poisonings?

  98. “Don’t forget Dems, tonight you’re rooting for a pro-gun, pro-life, anti-Pelosi candidate.“ -CC

So, i just read up on Lamb, and he isn’t pro-life at all, in a political context.  Wtf is with the fake news?

  99. …well Bink is right.  I fell into the listening to the goopers trap.  Lamb is pro-choice even though he personally opposes abortion

  100. The talking point of the day – Lamb ran as a Republican pro-gun -pro-life and pro God

    yikes

  101. And he does not have a doctrinaire stand on gun control either.

    Oy we are suckers

  102. If you want to know what they’re saying on Fox News, talk to 3 actual conservatives.  All 3 will vomit out the same litany of bullshit, almost verbatim, because that’s where they heard it.

Also, if you’re a liberal/progessive and use subscription TV services, call the company, and tell them to remove FoxNews from your bundle- there’s no reason you should be monetarily supporting a facist propaganda machine if you oppose everything about it.

  103. If you want breaking news, just get it from the same places the cable news networks do- people’s cellphone videos posted on twitter.  You just put in #(keyword of whatever horrible tragedy you’re curious about).  Doing so, you can see all the media vultures swoop in and beg for the content creators’ permission to use their videos (for free, of course) in the replies to the original post.
