It would seem that Trump’s good buddy Assad with the whole hearted support of Trump’s other good buddy may be once more gassing children:

Child Suffocates in Reported Syria “Chlorine Attack”

The incident has not been confirmed and the temptation to declare a conspiracy before all the facts are in is almost irresistible.

When you wake up thinking about Trump dropping out of TPP, China approving a lifelong dictatorship for Xi Jin Ping while consolidating its Asian influence and then news of the above this morning with the forces of Syria/Russia aligned, you really need a vacation.  So instead you start to google Sino-Soviet conflicts while wondering who can control North Korea …

Never fear, Ivanka & Sarah had a good time at Olympics ..

Yesterday we had a commenter bemoan the fact that she was a brand new Democrat who didn’t receive a proper welcome kit. Frankly, I don’t want that commenter in my Democratic Party. IMO she is a self-righteous racist. I cite her remarks about dog-eating Koreans on two separate occasions. To the best of my knowledge none of my three children adopted Korean orphans, foundlings all, ever ate dog meat. Nor did my late wife of half a century.

Flatus…  I think the remarks were made tongue in cheek.  But, IMO it’s a good example of the problem with politicizing everything.  Here we had a sporting event that happens every 4 years that brings the world together.  It’s not perfect…  but it does try to be positive.  We had individuals here who had to politicize it and be negative.  Look in the mirror indeed.

ps… I thought Kumcho’s country did an excellent job as hosts.

Hey SJ

The California Democratic declined to endorse Feinstein in the primary –

they didn’t endorse de Leon either but it sends a big message — “you old people need to retire.”

I still think she will win because he has a very high sleaze factor.

Renee, I watched very little of the coverage–it seems as if I’m perpetually fatigued now.

My ‘visits’ to Korea have spanned the years from 1961 to 2015. I fell in love with country and its people almost immediately. In my interactions with the people they were unfailingly, not just polite, but kind and helpful and just plain nice no matter what their station in life. And they respected me because I made the effort to learn their language to include reading and writing.

Have you talked to your doctor about the fatigue — even in someone as old as you (kidding) that’s not normal

Flatus

KCG, yes. And I have another visit with the hematoad in a couple of weeks, and, about the same time, the VA will get their first chance to crack the nut.

flatus, as one who often suffers from foot in mouth disease trying to be humorous but end up offending half the trail community, I beseech you to cut the commenter some slack for I’m sure from her past comments she is a very compassionate person who intends no harm.

p.s. also tell the doc if that “fatigue” of yours has been causing any unusual behaviors, loss of interest in favorite activities, increased testiness  etc.

Jamie, last night 60 minutes had quite a segment on the sarin gassing by ass-sad.

What a chemical attack in Syria looks like

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has used internationally banned chemical weapons nearly 200 times throughout the civil war threatening his regime. Now, rare footage shows just how brutal those attacks are

Justices Turn Down Trump’s Appeal in ‘Dreamers’ Case

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to clear the way for the Trump administration to end the Obama-era program that protects about 700,000 young immigrants from deportation, meaning that the so-called “Dreamers” could remain in legal limbo for months unless Congress acts to make their status permanent.

and of course the twit took a swing at the judiciary… par for the course. no mulligan. sad.

from cbs: Supreme Court rejects Trump administration’s appeal over DACA

[….]
President Trump, addressing the nation’s governors Monday, complained that “nothing’s as bad as the Ninth Circuit.” He said of that particular appeals court that “every single case is against us” in the Ninth Circuit. “We’ll see what happens from them,” Mr. Trump said.
The White House also issued a statement accusing the district court judge in the case of having “unwisely intervened in the legislative process” by acting while Congress is debating the policy. White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah also said, “We look forward to having this case expeditiously heard by the appeals court and, if necessary, the Supreme Court, where we fully expect to prevail.”
In a statement from Department of Justice spokesman Devin O’Malley, the DOJ says they will continue to defend “DHS’ lawful authority to wind down DACA in an orderly manner.
“While we were hopeful for a different outcome, the Supreme Court very rarely grants certiorari before judgment, though in our view it was warranted for the extraordinary injunction requiring the Department of Homeland Security to maintain DACA,” O’Malley added.

On Russia, Americans trust special counsel Mueller more than Trump, USA TODAY poll shows
ASHINGTON — When it comes to Russia, Americans have more trust in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation than they do in President Trump’s denials of collusion, a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll finds.
By wide margins, those surveyed are convinced that Russians meddled in the 2016 presidential election and that they will try it again. More than four in 10 believe Moscow’s interference affected the outcome of the election that put Trump in the White House.
The poll of 1,000 registered voters, taken after Mueller’s team indicted 13 Russians and three companies on criminal charges, spotlight the potential perils ahead for the president if he ends up in a showdown with the special counsel. A 58% majority say they have a lot or some trust in Mueller’s investigation, while a 57% majority say they have little or no trust in Trump’s denials.

[….]
…..there is an almost even split: 42% say Russian meddling affected the outcome of the election; 44% say it didn’t.
Views on that question reflect a sharp partisan divide. Democrats by more than 3-1, 69%-20%, say Russian meddling affected the election’s results. Republicans by more than 7-1, 81%-11%, say it didn’t.
[….]

There is a broad consensus, 76%-17%, that Russians will continue to try to meddle in American elections. Six in 10 say Trump isn’t doing enough to respond to that.

Instead of arming teachers, why can’t we just force NRA members to get teaching degrees?

Blonde Wino said the obvious about the Democratic Party & ALL political Parties in general : there is a need first for two ears before outstretching the begging hand. I give her credit, you should too, she joined your Party. While I lean more towards that Party on humanitarian & social issues, they have a unique talent for murder/suicide/self immolation. Such smart people; such self important idiots. (Remember Monty Python’s “Twit of the Year” sketches, where participants tripped over non existent impediments?) If anything I have even more desire not to join any Party after 2016. And won’t.

Blonde Wino, I enjoy you immensely. Keep being who you are, morning glory.

Flatus, I respect you & think the world of you. And will continue to, no matter what. Your wisdom is invaluable.

Flatus

I have known BW to be a kind and thoughtful person.

People must understand that people, especially women waiting in the bakery talk about my daughter Sue as if she has no ears. Her Asian acquaintances relate the same phenomenon. “I wonder why she’s shopping here, etc., etc.”

It hurts. And, what hurts her, hurts me. She’s a slant-eyed American, dammit.

But, that doesn’t close the case. Not long before Kumcho died we adopted, in South Carolina courts, the foundling ‘daughter’ within Kumcho’s broader family who had never been formally adopted by any of Kumcho’s brothers or sisters. Through this process we gained Jeannie, her husband, three daughters, two sons-in-law, and three grand-children. We are blessed. And Jeannie has family and an American Certificate of Adoption forever. Her British roots go back to 1066 when her original namesake arrived from France (yeah, I gave her that great-grandmother’s name).

So, that’s where I’m coming from.

I’ll say it, again: the 2nd amendment doesn’t say a damned thing about ammunition.

Also, a weapons ban would be a financial boon to all current holders- the value of their arsenals would triple overnight.  You’re welcome, gun-toting America, i just made you rich!
