  1. with just a tweak here and there the classic that inspired both the ‘toon and thread could be updated to reflect our current scary times. Imagine Annie as an undocumented worker for a start, rewording the admonitions that provoke GOPers to get you if you don’t watch out.

Little Orphant Annie by James Whitcomb Riley

Little Orphant Annie’s come to our house to stay,
An’ wash the cups and saucers up, an’ brush the crumbs away,
An’ shoo the chickens off the porch, an’ dust the hearth, an’ sweep,
    An’ make the fire, an’ bake the bread, an’ earn her board-an’-keep;
An’ all us other children, when the supper things is done,
We set around the kitchen fire an’ has the mostest fun
A-list’nin’ to the witch-tales ‘at Annie tells about.
An’ the Gobble-uns ‘at gits you
    Ef you
    Don’t
    Watch
    Out!

Onc’t they was a little boy wouldn’t say his prayers,—
So when he went to bed at night, away up stairs,
His Mammy heerd him holler, an’ his Daddy heerd him bawl,
An’ when they turn’t the kivers down, he wasn’t there at all!
An’ they seeked him in the rafter-room, an’ cubbyhole, an press,
    An’ seeked him up the chimbly-flue, an’ ever’wheres, I guess;
But all they ever found was thist his pants an’ roundabout!
    An’ the Gobble-uns git you
    Ef you
    Don’t
    Watch
    Out!

An’ one time a little girl ‘ud allus laugh an’ grin,
    An’ make fun of ever’ one, an’ all her blood an’ kin;
An’ onc’t when they was “company,” an’ ole folks was there,
She mocked ’em an’ shocked ’em, an’ said she didn’t care!
An’ thist as she kicked her heels, an’ turn’t to run an’ hide,
They was two great big black Things a-standin’ by her side,
An’ they snatched her through the ceilin’ ‘fore she knowed what she’s about!
    An’ the Gobble-uns’ll git you
    Ef you
    Don’t
    Watch
    Out!

An’ little Orphant Annie says, when the blaze is blue,
An’ the lampwick sputters, an’ the wind goes woo-oo!
An’ you hear the crickets quit, an’ the moon is gray,
An’ the lightnin’-bugs in dew is all squenched away,—
You better mind yer parents, and yer teachers fond and dear,
An’ churish them ‘at loves you, an’ dry the orphant’s tear,
An’ he’p the pore an’ needy ones ‘at clusters all about,
    Er the Gobble-uns’ll git you
    Ef you
    Don’t
    Watch
    Out!

  2. Trump on Air Force One calls the “No Kings” protests a “joke: — says the signs were “paid for by Soros” — “We’re checking it out”…
Then insists, “I’m not a king. Not at all.”

Watch our NO KINGS playlist →

  3. A king by any other name would smell as foul as a dirty diaper. His social media team really screwed the pooch on their anti-no kings posts…which would be pro-kings.

Surely, the administration saw protests around the world, especially those in front of US embassies, even if they didn’t tell Orange Adolf.

They do think it’s over? It’s not. Boycotts. No Christmas because of tRUMP’s tariffs. He is the Grinch, the king thief in a gang of thieves stealing freedoms, funds, and data.

Congress members need to be reminded that they are propping up war criminals; that crypto can vanish just like that (there is crypto high-jinx going on, where they duplicate cash and the cash disappears, and then the crypto crashes and goes poof); that other countries are making trade deals and cutting out the US entirely; that the US is now the main hub of evil and grift, with Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Russia, and Israel being merely spokes; that we may never recover from this if this administration isn’t removed for treason soon.

James Whitcomb Riley was my favorite poet when I was six. Here’s one for those just looking for any work they can get

    The Raggedy Man

    O the Raggedy Man! He works fer Pa;
An’ he’s the goodest man ever you saw!
He comes to our house every day,
    An’ waters the horses, an’ feeds ’em hay;
An’ he opens the shed—an’ we all ist laugh
    When he drives out our little old wobble-ly calf;
An’ nen—ef our hired girl says he can—
He milks the cow fer ‘Lizabuth Ann.—
Ain’t he a’ awful good Raggedy Man?
    Raggedy! Raggedy! Raggedy Man!

W’y, The Raggedy Man—he’s ist so good,
    He splits the kindlin’ an’ chops the wood;
An’ nen he spades in our garden, too,
An’ does most things ‘at boys can’t do.—
He clumbed clean up in our big tree
An’ shooked a’ apple down fer me—
An’ ‘nother ‘n’, too, fer ‘Lizabuth Ann—
An’ ‘nother ‘n’, too, fer The Raggedy Man.—
Ain’t he a’ awful kind Raggedy Man?
    Raggedy! Raggedy! Raggedy Man!

An’ The Raggedy Man one time say he
Pick’ roast’ rambos from a’ orchurd-tree,
An’ et ’em—all ist roast’ an’ hot!—
    An’ it’s so, too!—’cause a corn-crib got
Afire one time an’ all burn’ down
On “The Smoot Farm,” ’bout four mile from town—
On “The Smoot Farm”! Yes—an’ the hired han’
‘At worked there nen ‘uz The Raggedy Man!—
Ain’t he the beatin’est Raggedy Man?
    Raggedy! Raggedy! Raggedy Man!

The Raggedy Man’s so good an’ kind
He’ll be our “horsey,” an’ “haw” an’ mind
Ever’thing ‘at you make him do—
An’ won’t run off—’less you want him to!
I drived him wunst way down our lane
An’ he got skeered, when it ‘menced to rain,
An’ ist rared up an’ squealed and run
Purt’ nigh away!—an’ it’s all in fun!
Nen he skeered ag’in at a’ old tin can …
Whoa! y’ old runaway Raggedy Man!
    Raggedy! Raggedy! Raggedy Man!

An’ The Raggedy Man, he knows most rhymes,
An’ tells ’em, ef I be good, sometimes:
Knows ’bout Giunts, an’ Griffuns, an’ Elves,
An’ the Squidgicum-Squees ‘at swallers the’rselves:
An’, wite by the pump in our pasture-lot,
He showed me the hole ‘at the Wunks is got,
‘At lives ‘way deep in the ground, an’ can
Turn into me, er ‘Lizabuth Ann!
Er Ma, er Pa, er The Raggedy Man!
Ain’t he a funny old Raggedy Man?
    Raggedy! Raggedy! Raggedy Man!

An’ wunst, when The Raggedy Man come late,
An’ pigs ist root’ thue the garden-gate,
He ‘tend like the pigs ‘uz bears an’ said,
    “Old Bear-shooter’ll shoot ’em dead!”
An’ race’ an’ chase’ ’em, an’ they’d ist run
When he pint his hoe at ’em like it’s a gun
An’ go “Bang!—Bang!” nen ‘tend he stan’
An’ load up his gun ag’in! Raggedy Man!
He’s an old Bear-shooter Raggedy Man!
    Raggedy! Raggedy! Raggedy Man!

An’ sometimes The Raggedy Man lets on
    We’re little prince-children, an’ old King’s gone
To git more money, an’ lef’ us there—
    And Robbers is ist thick ever’where;
An’ nen—ef we all won’t cry, fer shore—
The Raggedy Man he’ll come and “splore
The Castul-halls,” an’ steal the “gold”—
An’ steal us, too, an’ grab an’ hold
An’ pack us off to his old “Cave”!—An’
Haymow’s the “cave” o’ The Raggedy Man!—
    Raggedy! Raggedy! Raggedy Man!

The Raggedy Man—one time, when he
Wuz makin’ a little bow-‘n’-orry fer me,
Says “When you’re big like your Pa is,
Air you go’ to keep a fine store like his—
An’ be a rich merchunt—an’ wear fine clothes?—
Er what air you go’ to be, goodness knows?”
An’ nen he laughed at ‘Lizabuth Ann,
An’ I says “‘M go’ to be a Raggedy Man!—
I’m ist go’ to be a nice Raggedy Man!”
    Raggedy! Raggedy! Raggedy Man!

  5. Reposting this because I worked a bit editing Bernie down to yesterday’s essential 2 minutes. His “bill of pariculars” reminded me of Jefferson’s “let facts be submitted to a candid world” citing King George’s transgressions..

  6. Something i thought lacking from the organizers of No Kings Day was a concise list of our grievances. So I wrote one myself — here is the link for sharing: https://trailmix.cc/home/declaration-of-grievances/

    full text:

    Declaration of Grievances
    What the People Protest

When the power of the presidency becomes the property of one man, the Republic is no longer self-governed.
When loyalty is demanded, not earned, and dissent is punished, freedom becomes a rumor.

We therefore list these grievances, not as partisans, but as citizens defending the common trust —
the Constitution, the law, and the promise that no person shall be king in this land.
    He has…

Concentrated power in his own hands, and in the hands of allied oligarchs.
Declared peaceful assemblies “insurrections,” and threatened the arrest of mayors and governors who refused obedience.
Sent masked federal agents to seize people without warrants or due process.
Sued and intimidated a free press, weaponizing courts against reporters and critics.
Threatened to imprison political opponents for opposing his will.
Undermined freedom of thought at universities and targeted students for speech.
Menaced law firms that argued against him in court.
Threatened impeachment of judges who dared to rule against him.
Ignored Congress, defied appropriations, and diverted public funds for personal ends.
Punished states that voted against him by withholding their rightful aid.
Ordered the redrawing of congressional maps to guarantee victory for his chosen candidates.
Fired thousands of civil servants unlawfully, replacing service with servitude.
Violated the Constitution’s emoluments clause by accepting gifts and favors from foreign rulers.
Sought to erase birthright citizenship, a right written plainly into the Fourteenth Amendment.
Deployed troops into cities without consent of their governors.
Usurped the powers of Congress by imposing tariffs alone.
Fired inspectors general investigating corruption among his allies.
Diverted funds appropriated by Congress to build his own enforcement forces.
Violated the First Amendment by detaining citizens for words and opinions.
Defied the lawful orders of federal judges, rejecting the authority of the courts themselves.
Enabled his family to pursue foreign business deals while in public office.

    Therefore, we affirm:

That government belongs to the governed — not to the governors.
That no man may crown himself with immunity.
That law without accountability is tyranny by another name.

We protest not as radicals, but as neighbors.
We gather not to overthrow, but to remind:

There are no kings in the United States of America.

  7. HuffPo, etc., should pick up on your piece, Craig.

    Amendment:
Yes, government belongs to the governed – not to the governers…but if the governers try to seize control, may the governed become ungovernable!

The MAGAt Chisto-fascists were very worried about the protests, which is why they spent so much time poo-pooing them before they happened. They didn’t know enough to shut up. (Of course, they wanted the most radical of their base to cause trouble…but the ProudBoys/OathKeepers are on the ICE payroll now. They don’t work for free anymore. Interesting how monetizing something can ruin it.)

Then, they spent time poo-pooing them after the fact with ai poo-poo. Again, they didn’t know enough to shut up. They showed they were bothered.

The next DC protest is November 5th, to mark one year since something happened.

  8. AXIOS: Trump Flexes

President Trump and the federal government are policing speech, morality, and punishment of individual citizens at a level of micromanagement rarely, if ever, witnessed in America.

These actions, all public, fall into three categories: punishing individual critics … freeing allies convicted of crimes … and policing speech.

The founders never envisioned a federal government this big and this powerful, or a president this unchecked.

    — Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen, AXIOS

  9. @revmagdalen.bsky.social

“I hope someday we defeat fascism and in the far future, No Kings Day is celebrated as a federal holiday, and little children leave out dance mixtapes and cookies for the Resistance Frog, who leaves pocket Constitutions in their shoes.”

    LoL Yes!

  10. If Congress is keeping a list, I am surely in it. Good. Referring to Republicans as “Senator Chaos Agent” …ha! back in February or March, I spoke a little Russian at the beginning of a message and the apologized in English because they “probably hadn’t completed their internship with Putin.”

Republicans may be able to fearmonger to their base, but it’s like they’ve never met the majority of America.

  11. So with shrapnel raining down on cop cars in CA during vanity events for J Douche with USMC as a supporting cast, I’m not sure I’d be too eager to go watch a dogfight between the Chairman of the JCoS and Brylcreem Pete – An F-16 or F-18 would drop a lot more shrapnel than a 100# artillery round when it explodes.

Mrs P has requested chicken soup (got chilly here over the weekend and flu season is underway), and when Mrs P speaks, I listen.

  12. https://www.newsweek.com/dhs-report-private-jets-bought-for-krist-noem-10902006

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has called a newspaper report claiming that the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) bought private jets for DHS Secretary Kristi Noem “lies.”

Writing on X, the department posted a screenshot of a New York Times story and said that the USCG had bought government planes for its staffers rather than solely for Noem.

When asked for comment, a senior adviser to the Secretary for the Coast Guard, Sean Plankey, told Newsweek: “This is a matter of safety and mission readiness. It’s well known that senior military officials and Cabinet members need secure command and control and rapid long-range mobility.”

Arduous and Unequal: The Fight to Get FEMA Housing Assistance After Helene

In some counties, the highest-income homeowners received two to three times as much housing assistance as those with lower incomes.

Yet income isn’t supposed to play a role. FEMA aid for home repairs and rebuilding is intended to help begin replacing a primary home or make it safe and habitable again, not restore one to its prior state. In theory, a couple living in a million-dollar home and another in a starter house should be eligible for the same level of assistance. For instance, couples who live alone generally would qualify for aid to cover one bedroom, one bathroom and one refrigerator, even if they had three of each.

  13. https://www.staradvertiser.com/2025/09/11/breaking-news/u-s-to-give-philippines-250m-to-tackle-health-needs/

The Trump administration plans to give the Philippines an additional $250 million to address tuberculosis, maternal health and the threat of emerging diseases, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday.

The move follows $63 million announced amid President Donald Trump’s meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the White House in July, he added, citing Trump’s new direct foreign aid approach following the shuttering of USAID and other foreign assistance pipelines.

The Philippines has unveiled a new jail that may soon accommodate numerous powerful legislators, public works officials and others implicated in a massive corruption scandal involving flood control projects, a top official said Monday.

The jail, which could hold up to 800 detainees in metropolitan Manila, was shown to the media by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla in the latest bid by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration to quell public outrage over the scandal.
