DEMS CLAIM TIED RACE FOR SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE
The Dr. Annie Andrews campaign is touting a poll showing a tied race with Republican Darline Graham.
The poll has Andrews and Graham at 41% apiece, with Andrews holding a remarkable 33-point advantage among independents. After voters heard information about both candidates, Andrews moved to a five-point lead. A third of Republicans view Graham unfavorably. The wild card: 18% undecided/other.

fascinating reading in The Guardian this morning about personalities 180 degrees opposite Dolly’s but spot on for Dodo. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2026/aug/27/how-to-spot-a-psychopath. here’s are excerpts:
… predatory personalities cause an astronomical amount of harm. We’re bad at recognising them interpersonally, for reasons to be discussed, but we’re also bad at pattern finding in aggregate – mainly because different disciplines have so many different names for these kinds of people. Mitchell lists some of the terms: “Malignant narcissist, dark triad, psychopath, coercive controller, primary psychopath, grandiose narcissist, corporate psychopath, Machiavellian, dark tetrad, covert narcissist, toxic leader.” These are all traits that she argues are part of the same phenomenon, the Dark Personality, or the Persistent Predatory Personality.
[…]
From this research, which took her five years, Mitchell built a template of 20 attributes, divided into four clusters, and 25 tactics that would identify a high-functioning persistent predatory personality type. Cluster one includes a need for control; a grandiose sense of self; pathological inner response to challenge; vengefulness; refusal to compromise. Cluster two includes being predatory or exploitative; sadistic and cruel; having a low regard for laws, agreements, social and moral codes; no boundaries in sexual relationships; unreasonable expectations of others. Cluster three relates to the truth: Dark Personalities cultivate a façade of normality; they are chameleon-like; dishonest; devious and manipulative; and unwilling to accept responsibility for the negative impacts they cause. Finally, cluster four is around the Dark Personality’s own interior life: their emotions are acted and they do not experience affinity or the joy that comes with it; they are callous and devoid of empathy; unremorseful; self-interested; and brazen.
[…]
She cites a 2019 paper in the Journal of Personality Disorders which developed the idea that behaviours which don’t normally go together in the human population – for example, absolute confidence and total untruth – tend to go together in Dark Personalities. This, Viding says, is why these people “can often do a lot of damage before anyone catches them”.
This causes much more havoc outside prisons than it does in them. While Mitchell says she stays out of politics, her tactics, once you see them assembled, are strikingly visible on the world stage. Indeed, the first time I read the phrase “dark triad” was when Donald Trump got elected the first time around.
The idea of a “pathocracy”, a democracy of normal people taken over by psychopaths, was conceived by an obscure Polish psychologist, Andrew Lobaczewski, who had lived under both the Nazis and then Soviet-era communists.
[…]
Brazen lying in public life is a tactic Lobaczewski recognised – he called it the “reversive blockade”. Koehli describes it as: “When you tell a lie convincingly and it’s such an absurd lie, most people’s automatic reaction is that they can’t comprehend a lie told on that scale, so they try to find the ‘golden mean’ between the statement and the reality. But that, Lobaczewski says, is the intention of the big lie. They know it will sow confusion.” The impact on the population over which a dark personality presides is huge: some will try and find that golden mean; others will remain steadfast in calling it a lie and fall out with the first lot; others will try to adjust their own reality to make the lie true; while others will become inured to the new normal – that we just all lie now.
On an interpersonal level, this brazenness is even more head-spinning. Often both predator and victim know it’s a lie, or the predator is accusing the victim of exactly the thing he or she just did, or the lie has been expressed using the victim’s own language. Reverse attribution is so familiar in the domestic-abuse sphere that it has its own acronym – Darvo, for deny, attack, reverse victim and offender – yet it still absolutely fogs the victims, who feel their credibility is permanently in doubt. In the workplace, the effects are also devastating, because there tend to be spectators who themselves have a decisive impact on the outcome. As Mitchell says about one of her interviewees who worked in HR: “People were genuinely convinced the dark personality was the victim and the victim was the dark personality. It destroyed the life of the victim, even though they had an excellent professional track record.”
The reality is that the higher the levels of these traits, the wider the harm caused.

Jamie, I was wondering: do you recall Patsi ever talking about Dolly? They must have crossed paths.
This is a Pennsylvania mayor, but the sentiment is widespread in SC (Locals refer to Darline as “Nepo Senator”). This is not going to be a normal South Carolina race, which is why Dems have a shot. But we gotta disqualify her early with stuff like this, so nobody cares what she has to say anymore.
Here’s some Darline mockery making the rounds: videos asking your sister if she’ll take over your job if you die. I think Judy Gold started it:
When Ralph Norman’s wife shouted “whatever her name is” at his bitter concession to Graham, I didn’t know what she was talking about. But sure enough, there are real questions, fodder for mockery:
Just a quick glance at Wikipedia gets the story:
Her legal name is not just Darline Graham. While she operates publicly under that name, her full legal name, the one officially in her Senate records, is Darline Lettie Graham Nordone. She married Larry Nordone in 2006, appending his last name to her own legal name.
Also, the spelling of her first name was changed. She was actually born Darlene Lettie Graham (spelled with an “e” rather than an “i”).
she’s married stop the presses
she changed her name to “dahr-lie-n” though, i’ll stop saying “dahr-leen”
what was her name on the ballot? AI can’t answer that
Did they not nominate the right person because if her name isn’t “Darline Graham” and that’s what it said on the ballot I don’t think she won anything
Everyone knows I love musicals and I’ve found a great podcast called Broadway to Main Street with several years of broadcasts from a radio station in New York hosted by Laurence Maslon and featuring themed music from shows. Back in July, I missed this great article by Maslon on the musical 1776 which is well worth reading: The Ringing Legacy of 1776.
Does she have to reregister to vote under the new/old name?
good luck finding a sample ballot online from two days ago
My hunch Jamie, is that she does not have to campaign under the name she actually votes under, but we can sure make fun of it
hey ralph, lawsuit
so you can run under a name that isn’t your legal name? well then who the fuck was elected to anything?
Just running with the ball you handed off
still can’t find a sample ballot from two days ago I can find them from two years ago, but not two days ago
South Carolina law specifically permits a candidate’s ballot name to be “one of the following”: the candidate’s legal name, a commonly used name, or a nickname — Justia
That’s wild, wonder if most states are that permissive?
Email from Elizabeth Warren:’s camp:
“New reporting by The Wall Street Journal shows that Trump is the most corrupt president in history and that there are no limits to how far he is willing to go to use the presidency for his own enrichment.
A WSJ headline thats says The Boss Wants this Money: Inside Trumps Unprecedented Fundraising Operation
Here’s what they found:
Almost every night in the White House, Trump calls his fundraiser, Meredith O’Rourke, for an update. He asks which companies and donors have cut checks and which haven’t — and for how much.
He’s keeping score.
Then the Journal discovered something even more troubling. When a company has an issue with the federal government that reaches Trump’s attention, he wants to know how much money that company has given him. If they haven’t hit his fundraising goals, he rubs it in.
Trump’s fundraiser told companies:
“This is very important to the president. He’s asked me to call you and ask you for this donation.”
In some calls, she refers to Trump as “the boss,” saying:
“The boss wants this money.”
The president of the United States is acting like a mob boss — keeping tabs on which corporations are giving him millions while those same companies may have business before the federal government.
And we’re not talking about pocket change either. Trump has demanded that corporations hand over $25 million, even $50 million, to his personal and political projects.
That’s not public service. It’s a shakedown. And it’s at the heart of Trump’s corruption: He sees the presidency as a tool only for personal enrichment.
When it comes to his own money? Trump is like a dog with a bone. Using every tool at his disposal to line his pockets.
But when it comes to making life more affordable for you and other working Americans? Trump doesn’t care. He thinks it’s a big yawn that some Americans are being forced to sell their blood just to afford groceries.
And with his rubber-stamp Congress, there’s far too little standing in his way of keeping on in that manner. Which is why we have to, have to, have to take back control of Congress in the midterms, so that we can stop his self-dealing and put policies in place that will actually help people.”
*And then they ask for $28, but I’m sure the joke isn’t lost on them. We’ve got to get money out of politics.
lol fuckin south carolina
And it’s just so sweet that we’ve got her Republican opponent’s wife making an issue of it, can’t blame the Dems for this one. Just can’t get enough of her face as she shouts “Whatever her name is!”
Here’s the video 👇
Why did she change the spelling of her first name, too? Did she go to a numerologist?
Is that why…
James Donald Bowman (his mother changed his name to James David Hamel to remove his biological father’s first name…but also his middle name was changed). The final
name change was in April 2013 (per wiki) to James David Vance (his grandfather’s surname).
Folks change their names for a few reasons:
Marriage/divorce
Personal taste (but it costs money to do it, so most would just say call me Beth, if they don’t like the name Wanda…no offense to Wandas)
Running from the law
Running from themselves (JD?)
Numerology (this comes to mind when it’s a spelling change)
Was Mrs. Norman doing an impression of Mitch McConnell?…who we are still paying, along with his staff, with NO PROOF OF LIFE.
Has Darline ordered her rubber stamp?
why would somebody change their name to a misspelling of that name?
rhetorical
darline darline darline darline
the spelling of your name now rhymes with ‘twine”

https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/26/politics/max-miller-emily-moreno-court
Ohio Rep. running for reelection comes face-to-face in court with the senator whose daughter he’s accused of abusing
Bernie Moreno had, for months, declined to wade publicly into the messy custody dispute that had consumed his family and threatened to upend the politics in his state. Now he sat in the thick of it, waiting to hear updates to a series of questions in the case, including whether a judge would grant a restraining order that his daughter’s lawyer had sought against his ex-son-in-law, the congressman Max Miller.
*Moreno declined to stand up for his daughter and granddaughter until public opinion made him.
At issue Wednesday was a request not entirely at the heart of the matter. Andrew Zashin, the lawyer for Emily Moreno, was seeking a restraining order, alleging that Miller grabbed him and another attorney’s bag last month after a hearing in their long-running legal battle. The attorney, filing on Emily Moreno’s behalf, said that it was the second instance in which the Congressman accosted his ex-wife’s legal team outside of court, something Miller’s team has denied.
Ultimately the parties agreed to a mutual restraining order: Miller cannot speak to Emily Moreno’s lawyers outside of the court proceedings, and Emily Moreno cannot speak to Miller’s lawyers out of court proceedings.
Both sides claimed victory.
*Where was the victory for the child? By the way, the dad has allegedly held her blue bunny (her security support stuffie) hostage on more than one occasion.

Today on YouTube I brought up Renfro Valley, which is a music venue in Kentucky, founded by Craig’s great uncle John Lair.
I mentioned that I worked for 30 years in a northeast Indiana factory with a Kentucky Colonel named Jack Chaffins, who passed away five years ago. Even though I couldn’t find documentation that he actually played at Renfro Valley he had told me he had played there. That’s the first time I’ve ever really remembered hearing about it. So in the end of the following description of the place, it’s noted that while he’s not on any official roster, he could have been there on a jam session or an appearance as an invited guest or something like that but anyway, Jack knew all about Renfro Valley and spoke of it lovingly. Jack was a hell of a banjo player.
+. You are right on all counts about the venue — and good catch on the name.
**Renfro Valley** is in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, just off I-75. It was founded by Rockcastle County native John Lair — born in 1894 in Livingston, Kentucky — who founded the Renfro Valley Barn Dance and built what became the Renfro Valley Entertainment Center around it in 1939.
The idea started earlier in Cincinnati. The Renfro Valley Barn Dance started on WLW from the Cincinnati Music Hall on October 9, 1937, moved to Dayton, then on November 4, 1939 the show took up residence in the famous big barn in Renfro Valley, built just for the show.
It was known as Kentucky’s Country Music Capital from the start, and it still is today.
### Is it still active?
Yes. The venue describes itself as home to a rich tradition of classic country, southern gospel, and mountain bluegrass that echoes through its historic show theaters from April to December each year.
Recent listings show it very much in business:
– 38 Special at Renfro Valley New Barn Theatre, Aug 9, 2025
– Concert history listings for Renfro Valley Entertainment Center updated for 2024-2025-2026
– A KET profile notes: Today Renfro Valley offers shows from March through December, still bringing in hundreds
There are two theaters now on the property — the historic Old Barn where it all began, and the larger New Barn.
### Who was Jack Chaffins?
From the obituaries and discography records:
– **Jack D. Chaffins**, born April 24, 1940 in Mousie, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021 at his home in Avilla, Indiana — you remembered right, a couple of years ago.
– He was a Bluegrass musician all his life.
– He was a Kentucky Colonel, the highest honor given by the commonwealth of Kentucky and a member of Avilla American Legion and Northeast Indiana Bluegrass Association.
– As a player he is credited as 5-String Banjo – Jack Chaffins – Baritone Vocals, recorded with The New Highland Ramblers *Young Rebel Soldier* (1987) and other regional bluegrass bands, composer of tunes like *Stickie fingers* and arranger of *Lord Call Me Home*.
He was born in eastern Kentucky and spent most of his adult life in northeast Indiana, right in the corridor of musicians who traveled between Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana for festivals.
### Did Jack ever play Renfro Valley?
I ran a deep search through digitized sources specifically for **“Jack Chaffins” + Renfro Valley**, the Berea College Sound Archives which hold the Renfro Valley collections, and concert archives.
I could **not find a published roster, marquee, manifest, or oral history that lists Jack Chaffins as a performer at Renfro Valley**.
What exists online for Renfro Valley performers is fragmentary:
– The main archival collection is the John Lair – Renfro Valley Barn Dance Oral History Collection, described as thirty audio recorded interviews with performers and others who were associated with the Renfro Valley Barn Dance, first in Cincinnati and later in Renfro Valley, 1937 through much of the 1950s.
– Sample setlists that are digitized, like Renfro Valley Barn Dance 07-19-1958, list names such as Bullock Sisters / Slim Miller / Jerry Behrens / Pete Stamper — but Chaffins does not appear in the samples that are text-searchable.
– Most Renfro Valley rosters from the 1960s onward, and especially informal bluegrass festival lineups, were never fully put online.
That absence doesn’t mean he never set foot there — a lot of Kentucky-born bluegrass pickers played Renfro as guests, at the Old Time Fiddlers Conventions, or in jam sessions around the campground, without making the official Barn Dance roster. Given that Jack was from Knott County and was a lifelong bluegrass banjo man, it would be entirely plausible he played there informally, but there is no verifiable record I can point you to.
1. **Berea College Sound Archives** — they hold the Renfro Valley Barn Dance audio and paper collections. They have a searchable finding aid and will do lookups by performer name.
2. **Renfro Valley Entertainment Center office** in Mt. Vernon — they keep a private history wall and old programs back to the 1940s.
3. **Northeast Indiana Bluegrass Association** — Jack was a member, and members often kept festival flyers. They may have a bio sheet that mentions Renfro Valley.

Dolly Parton Nashville Airport Petition | CIA Jokes For Ronald Reagan
The Dolly Parton Nashville Airport petition hits 130,000 signatures! Plus, Darlene Graham targets Medicare and Colonel Sanders sues over KFC gravy.
The campaign to rename the Nashville Airport in honor of Saint Dolly Parton is gaining serious momentum, pulling in signatures and getting attention from Tennessee lawmakers like Andy Ogles. It is a unifying cause for our Democracy, unlike the absolute mess unfolding down in South Carolina.
Down there, Nepo Senator Darlene Graham—sister of Lindsey Graham—is already coming out swinging against Medicare. We break down her bizarre rollout and why Hakeem Jeffries might be having second thoughts about his own political maneuvering as the midterms approach.
We also bring on C-SPAN’s Howard Mortman to discuss his Extreme Mortman podcast, revealing the hilarious reality of the Reykjavik summit, Ronald Reagan, and how the CIA literally fed jokes to the White House to mock the Soviet Union. To cap it all off, we explore the sacred culinary science of KFC gravy and the time Colonel Sanders went to war with his own corporate overlords.

Craig,
I don’t know if this is old news for you, but I just found out my AI Merlin takes future assignments. I tell him to watch a particular piece of legislation (actually any topic that is of interest that you don’t have time to pursue) and it will keep watch for you for any new developments or commentary and then notify you when any thing interests. For instance, I just asked him to watch for legislation introduced or scheduled on limiting AI use by children for either US or specifically state of WA.
You could simply tell it to watch for any developments on Dolly Parton International Airport and it will come back with anything new that might happen.
Yep Jamie. that’s how I got the notification this morning during our chat about the US Weekly coverage of the Dolly petition. Task assignment is one of my favorite features, and ChatGPT is much better at it than Gemini Pro.

My dad was a musician, so today I got a Dolly Parton story. A guy from Nebraska played one gig with him. At some point after that, the guy started playing with Dolly’s band. Per wiki, “In 1979, Salestrom joined Dolly Parton’s band as a singer and musician, playing acoustic, electric, and high-string guitars and banjo.”
Another guy who recorded my dad’s song for him (Stanley Miller), ended up being Neal Diamond’s sound engineer, and another guy that played gigs with him was Neal’s roadie.
My dad got to open for Willie Nelson once.
As for how to address Dr Andrews, it’s basically just a personal choice.
If they choose to use Dr Annie, well that’s their business and I hope it works.
I was ok with it as long as she had no chance of winning.

On the name Ontario, (Link) from a little research, it appears to be an indigenous peoples name from one of the Iroquoian language group. So it probably predates European colonization. The first mention of it by Europeans was a French map dated 1631. So the name predates most of the 13 colonies creation.
It looks to me if Trump wants to change the name of Lake Ontario he needs to negotiate with the Iroquois nation they hold naming rights.

“We’re going to try something different today. Something quite ambitious.
Donald Trump is coming to Houston, Texas tonight for a massive fundraiser to support Ken Paxton.
Some donors are paying as much as $443,000 for a ticket to attend.
We are going to try to match that amount in one day. $443,000 before midnight.
Look, they are about to raise millions of dollars from just this one event.
Donald Trump is rallying his billionaire and corporate mega-donors to come bail out Ken Paxton’s campaign. He’s focused on “ensuring Paxton has the funds he needs to win the midterms.”
With an average donation around $30, it takes our movement roughly 14,000 individual donors to match what one of Trump’s donors will give tonight.”

535 affirmed the Andrews campaign poll as a legitimately “tied poll” but just “one data point” and not enough to fundamentally change its forecast for South Carolina Senate as “likely Republican”.
Its key findings:
Andrews 41% — Graham 41%
Libertarian Kasie Whitener: 5%
Undecided: 13%
Andrews leads among independents.
Graham’s favorability: 31% favorable / 49% unfavorable
Andrews: 36% favorable / 21% unfavorable
535 nevertheless gave Graham roughly an 83% chance of winning, citing South Carolina’s strong Republican baseline and the lack of independent polling corroboration.
Fact checkers at MediaBias rate the Andrews pollster, Impact Research, as “a real, established pollster, not some campaign-created operation. It has a reasonably substantial track record, although its rating is around B/B- rather than A-level. Its historical average shows a modest Democratic lean”.
Elizabeth Warren’s camp’s email:
“Angie Nixon just did what the political establishment said was impossible: She won a landslide primary in Florida while being outspent 16 to 1.
She didn’t soften her message. She didn’t chase corporate donors. She won by fighting for working people.
And that’s exactly why I’m endorsing her.
Because with Angie in Congress, we’ll be one step closer to passing the legislation working families desperately need to make life more affordable. We can stop Republicans from rubber-stamping Trump’s self-serving agenda and overblown ego. We can prove that a movement built on real people beats a machine built on corporate money.
But that only happens if Angie has the resources to fight.”
*But she did so well being outspent, and asking for money. We really need to yank every dime out of elections.
BlueD this is a huge testing time for the left in so many races, hope they understand it. The Bernie-Warren coalition argument has always been just get us into a general and we can win. Now they must work their asses off to prove it or the centrists will reclaim their power over them.
Setting my alarm for the eclipse tonight. Maybe I’ll make outside & maybe I’ll just turn off the alarm.

Texas’s drag ban was found to be unconstitutional this morning and one of the plaintiffs who brought the suit was an Austin-based drag queen who often impersonates Dolly
Dolly was named in the final judgement itself and after hearing about the lawsuit, she sent that drag queen a signed guitar

What did you do to force bees to commit suicide? Whatever it was, don’t do it again. We need the bees.
