This is how Democrats apologize!

By Dvitale300, a Trail Mix Contributor

I would not think anyone of sound mind and national spirit would believe the “stunt” pulled by Kathy Griffen was cute nor funny. Griffin is often times an edgy comedian who steps to the accepted edge of comedic normality.

At the end of this video, Griffin issues a profoundly honest apology statement over the picture that she posted.  While that does not instantaneously absolve her of guilt and responsibility – she did step up and issue the apology.  She’s been fired by CNN and a number of other media / financial outlets – as she should be.

But let us also think about how Republicans apologize when they step over the line.  In April, President Trump hosted a well known ‘over the hill’ rock star at the oval office.  This rock star, Ted Nugent, suggested the assassination of President Obama; a statement that opened up a Secret Service investigation.

So – kudo’s to Griffin for stepping up and apologizing (and I’m not supporting what she did).  But the republicans have consistently showed a lack or ability in owning up to their own obscene actions.

  1. to remind mixers of what ted said, here’s excerpt from cnn:

Nugent, who backed Trump in 2016 and was invited to the White House to dine with the President in April, threatened to kill then-Democratic presidential candidates Obama and Clinton while holding two machine guns in a 2007 onstage appearance.

“Obama, he’s a piece of s—. I told him to suck on my machine gun. Hey Hillary,” Nugent said. “You might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless b—-.”

And again, in 2012, Nugent recommended decapitating Democrats, saying, “We need to ride onto that battlefield and chop their heads off in November,” while speaking at the NRA convention in April.

In that speech, he made another controversial remark that suggested violence toward Obama: “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”

  2. also from that same cnn link:

“Ted Nugent was obviously using a figure of speech, unfortunate as it was. It just shows the anger people have towards @BarackObama,” Trump tweeted in April 2012.

where was the comparable concern for sasha and malia by barron’s daddy? oh yeah, forgot, that was during the time drumpf was so busy with birther pronouncements and other sound bites demeaning their dad…. still at it with no apologies to them.

  3. good for you, mayor bill!

As he made the announcement at the White House today, Trump said, “I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.”

In a series of tweets shortly afterward, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto hit back at Trump, saying the city will stick to the accord and pointing out that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton actually received 80 percent of the vote in Pittsburgh.

“Pittsburgh stands with the world & will follow Paris Agreement,” Peduto wrote, including Clinton’s Twitter handle in the tweet.  [….]

Peduto vowed on behalf of the city to maintain the obligations set forth in the agreement.

  4. kudos also to my new favorite French dessert…

    from cnn:

New French President Emmanuel Macron trolled President Trump in a televised speech Thursday, condemning the US leader’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement with a call to “make our planet great again”.

Speaking first in French, he then switched to English, addressing Trump directly with a play on his campaign slogan to “make America great again.” It was the first time a French President has ever given a speech in English from the Elysee Palace.

“On the climate there is no plan B because there is no planet B,” he said. This is a “mistake, both for the US and for our planet,” he continued.

He also offered refuge to American scientists, engineers and citizens who were disappointed by Trump’s announcement.

“They will find in France a second homeland. I call on them, come and work here with us, to work together on concrete solutions for our climate.”

He reaffirmed France’s commitment to the agreement and concluded: “Wherever we live, whoever we are, we all share the same responsibility: make our planet great again.”

  5. thanks Jamie for the suggestion but I’ve tried those Amazon graphics before and found that they sometimes slowed down page builds.

  6. dv, thanks for the thread and thanks for your service to our country’s future. it may not be evident now but I bet those kids will look back on you as one of their favorite teachers.

  7. and even more kudos to the weather channel  for it’s Weather Channel Editor-In-Chief: “America Loves A Good Apocalypse”

Are you prepared to DIE in 2050? The Weather Channel and its editor-in-chief Neil Katz are posing that question, along with dozens like it, to its readers every day. It’s part of an effort to move The Weather Channel beyond forecasting — and turn it into a full online destination.

Fresh off a site redesign, Katz spoke with BuzzFeed about the weather, the site’s outrageous headlines, and its peculiar fixation on the end of the world.

  8. Jamie & flatus, well done on that pathetic potus epithet!

apparently he’s a bit hurt by those post-nato trip reports of being laughed at by world leaders (including his kremlin buddies)  with his

“At what point does America get demeaned? At what point do they start laughing at us as a country?” Trump inquired during an afternoon event held in a sun-drenched Rose Garden.

“We want fair treatment,” Trump said. “We don’t want other countries and other leaders to laugh at us anymore.”
Donnie, they’re laughing at YOU, not us.

  9. looks like these guys are discussing…. maybe crying rather than laughing.

from guardian Bilderberg 2017: secret meeting of global leaders could prove a problem for Trump

The annual gathering of government and industry elites will include a ‘progress report’ on the Trump administration. Will it get a passing grade?

The storm around Donald Trump is about to shift a few miles west of the White House, to a conference centre in Chantilly, Virginia, where the embattled president will be getting his end-of-term grades from the people whose opinion really matters: Bilderberg.

The secretive three-day summit of the political and economic elite kicks off on Thursday in heavily guarded seclusion at the Westfields Marriott, a luxury hotel a short distance from the Oval Office. The hotel was already on lockdown on Wednesday, and an army of landscapers have been busy planting fir trees around the perimeter, to protect coy billionaires and bashful bank bosses from any prying lenses.

Perched ominously at the top of the conference agenda this year are these words: “The Trump administration: a progress report.” Is the president going to be put in detention for tweeting in class? Held back a year? Or told to empty his locker and leave? If ever there’s a place where a president could hear the words “you’re fired!”, it’s Bilderberg.

The White House is taking no chances, sending along some big hitters from Team Trump to defend their boss: the national security adviser, HR McMaster; the commerce secretary, Wilbur Ross; and Trump’s new strategist, Chris Liddell. Could the president himself show up to receive his report card in person?

    [….more continues….]

Dan Rather: Donald Trump Most ‘Psychologically Troubled’ POTUS Since Nixon | The Last Word | MSNBC

    Published on Jun 1, 2017

Dan Rather joins Lawrence O’Donnell to react to Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris climate accord. Rather says the pressure of the Russia investigation is causing Trump to “lash out.”

  11. I literally laughed out loud – bigly – over the mayor of Pittsburgh’s response to trump’s announcement yesterday.  POTUS patheticus is a member of the subspecies Homo Sapiens Idioticus.

  12. Just think of how successful Trump has been.  He’s been able to bring us back to 1945; when Russia was our friend and Germany our enemy!

  13. btw, happy donut day!!!

A century ago, not long after the United States entered World War I, the Salvation Army deployed hundreds of volunteers to France to soothe and bolster American troops.

The boys were homesick. They were hungry. They wanted a slice of apple pie.

But that, of course, was impossible. The many indignities of war include this undeniable one: A fox hole is a terrible place to bake.

So the Salvation Army troops improvised, frying dough in soldier helmets, producing such delicious donuts that when the war was over, when the troops finally came home, the government produced a guide for veterans to open donut shops.

This is how the donut came to America. This is what led to National Donut Day. This is why the line at Dunkin’ Donuts was extra long Friday morning — free donuts, not as a marketing ploy (well, maybe a little), but to remember the sacrifices those boys made and the Salvation Army volunteers who comforted them.

  14. well, the germans and the french might disagree a bit with the salvation army since they’ve been turning out spritzkuchen and crullers for centuries. likely that some of those were stowaways on a few colonizing ships westward.

  15. Flatus

Love “POTUS Patheticus”.  Just the right amount of Latinate alliterative appellation

    OMG….  it’s so true!  Still….   I laughed when I read it.

ps…   excellent posting and I largely agree, dv300.  If the left is ok with sponsors leaving Rush when he gets out of line, it’s only logical (at least that’s what Spock tells me) for CNN to fire Griffin if they deem her out of line.

  19. to be clear, I would say that POTUS patheticus is a tiny subgroup of the subspecies  H.S. Idioticus.

  20. must say, as a longtime fan who has seen her in concert twice, I am a disappointed Kathy used such poor judgment for a such a cheap joke

  21. our internet tubes seem a bit clogged today, will keep an eye on it. if it doesn’t speed up I’ll investigate.

  23. The facists are gutting our society and liberals are trying to apologize for a celebrity’s photo shoot.  Get a grip, pretty please?

  24. An emboldened conservative murdered two people in Oregon last week, did the entirety of the political right condemn that?  Of course not, because they’re savages.

  25. I realize everyone wants things to just go back to normal- well, tough shit, you didn’t do enough last year and the country elected a facist idiot and his gang of thugs to rule us, so get used to it.  Enjoy your weekend!

  26. Go ahead, finish that thought, if you can (you can’t).  While you and the rest of the disinformation artists were making meaningless posts about contrived conspiracy theories, an actual criminal cabal took shit over, “blue”.

    https://apple.news/ANB1yVMaVTTOpev5TdbLlzA

Oh, brother.  She made a choice.  She’s not the victim.

It wasn’t just the Trump family “mobilizing their armies” against her.  Pretty much everyone thought it was in horribly bad taste, at the very least.

How outraged would she have been if someone had taken the time to do a photo shoot (as a career move) like that with someone she admired?   She is a victim of her own ill-thought-out decision.

And Bink,  there is plenty of horrified disgust over the murders in Portland.  That creep had it out for everyone; there was a clip of him deriding Christians, Jews, and, Muslims.  He was armed and looking for a fight.  He wanted the cops to kill him…but he was white so that just wasn’t gonna happen.

Instead of playing the victim card, maybe Kathy Grinnfinths could’ve…eh, it’s all about attention and how she can turn this around to recover her losses now.

The media needs to step up.  It’s not too late for the younger generation.  How about a reboot of “Free To Be You And Me,” or something like that?

  28. Bink – Just wondering if they can pull the strings to get Donny to reverse the decision on TheParis Accord?

I hope you remembered to take your blood pressure meds.  Jeez.

  29. I’m not surprised the same participant on this board who gets suckered by contrived internet conspiracy theories has so many thoughts on a contrived media distraction.  You’re really diving into those trenches, headfirst, “blue”.

    Ooh, look! A squirrel!

  30. Bink…   couple weeks ago, you got upset at my joke about my wanting to buy a gun for the first time in my life.  Rightly so…  if we start acting like that which disgusts us….  we are no better.  The answer to that piece of flotsam who killed those two men defending the women wearing the hijab is not to start killing people we think are racists.  IMO, the answer is to keep showing love in the face of their hate.  That’s why, again IMO, it’s important for the left to condemn Griffin’s poor behavior.  It shows the difference between our values.

I don’t care that trump was elected as president…   I will not stop acting like a civilized human being.

  31. “But let us also think about how Republicans apologize when they step over the line.”

dv, let me count the ways….  many variations on the theme, the euphemistic phrase “f.u.”

also gopers like to quote john wayne (from she wore a yellow ribbon) when he said  “Never apologize and never explain–it’s a sign of weakness.”

[a line probably stolen from original phrase “Never contradict. Never explain. Never apologize. (Those are the secrets of a happy life!).” –John Arbuthnot Fisher (1841-1920), letter to The Times of London, September 5, 1919. -Bartletts]

  32. Hey RR,

You could never upset me!  Although, i didn’t realize your stated consideration of the acquisition of a firearm was a joke, as many liberal-ish acquaintences of mine have expressed similar thoughts.  The way I see it, the best reason to get a gun is to statistically increase your chances of getting shot.

As for Griffin, I’m personally much less concerned with her non-comedy and the manifestations of it than I am with the reality of our federal government being controlled by criminal stooges of Russia and a few-odd societal arsonists.  Once that’s no longer a reality, I won’t be so offended by discussions of a trivial nature.  The way things are going, that will be a least another 3 1/2 years.

    🙁

  33. I’m with ————> Binks

i want some tougher and fight-back, fire with fire democrats.  It’s now or covfefe.

that’s why i like Hillary Clinton…….she will FIGHT the bastards, but the whole party needs to pick up their pitchforks and head to the fray…….or else covfefe will come to stay

i have a feeling that the trumpets and the white supremers will wear out their welcome and get stomped back again, but how long?  and how much damage can those weaselly  schmuckfields do between now and then? and meanwhile the gop will still be rolling along.

The trumper-whites truly do not see liberals as being Americans.   long and short, right there.   Liberals will have to SHOW them just who are the True Americans.

if that cant be done, prepare to get out your passport and let them have their stupid, doomed, and grotesque vision of USA,USA,USA…………

  34. i wish i could remember the John Irving book where he looked back on the civil rights battles and the KKK church bombings, and murders…..

    they’re baaaaaack….and Planning is underway.

  35. But even beyond these explicit appeals, political rhetoric based on demonization and scapegoating often leads to violence against the groups targeted, whether they are transgender folks, Jews, Muslims, immigrants or people of color. Chip Berlet, a long-time scholar of right-wing populist movements, lays out the details of how this dynamic works in his essay “Heroes Know Which Villains to Kill: How Coded Rhetoric Incites Scripted Violence,” writing, “The leaders of organized political or social movements sometimes tell their followers that a specific group of ‘Others’ is plotting to destroy civilized society.”
The leaders don’t need to exhort their followers directly to violence. In fact, in the last couple decades, most white supremacist and Islamophobic leaders have learned they can conduct a campaign of vilification, scapegoating and demonization without ever directly calling for violence. As Berlet says, “history tells us that if this message is repeated vividly enough, loudly enough, often enough, and long enough — it is only a matter of time before the bodies from the name scapegoated groups start to turn up.” The followers will hear these dramatic claims of impending disaster, and take it upon themselves to be “heroes” — by killing members of the demonized group, and thereby helping to “save” society.
More progressives — particularly those who are not part of targeted groups — should spend some time on radical-right websites, like the Oath Keepers, Infowars, and Daily Stormer, to get a sense of how heated the rhetoric is about the impending “genocide” of white people, the trope that Muslims are secret terrorists, and how communists are about to overthrow the US government.

  36. John Steinbeck, in TRAVELS WITH CHARLIE, made the observation something like about the only way to avoid the coming shitstorm is to go live in a place where no one else wants to live…….like way north or some desert or whatnot…….he was probably on to something there…..

  37. As for Griffin, I’m personally much less concerned with her non-comedy and the manifestations of it than I am with the reality of our federal government being controlled by criminal stooges of Russia and a few-odd societal arsonists.

    Bink…  I’m 100% with you on that.

Sturg….  IMO, fighting hate with passion is what is needed.  But fighting hate with hate just leads to more hate.  All one has to do is look at the Israeli/Palestinian situation to see how poorly that works.

  38. maybe so……..but they’ll roll over passion like a semi over a bunny rabbit……they dont care………win at any cost, all they know……..

  41. and of course im not advocating violence or extra-legal activities……im talking about having the gumption enough to not be afraid of dealing out a few things back at them with the same glee the gop evinced over their squashing of garland, and the like….

all these investigations probably a very nice place to start……and when they become “down” dont make the mistake of thinking they have learned their lesson and so become inclined to be magnanimous and all that claptrap…..

figuratively speaking, of course, you’ve got to Jericho their ass politically.

  42. Their walls are gonna have to come a’tumblin’ down or everybody’s just going to be wandering around in the mountains raising goats…….goats….pah

  43. calling out outrageous behavior on your own side of the debate is not overlooking the other side’s excesses, quite the opposite.

  44. watergate and viet nam did those guys in…..4 yrs while they blocked carter, then there’s good old Reagan…….they’re baaaaaack………… then bill gets a crack at it and gets clobbered for his hubris………but the corker…….Bush two……and all of a sudden there’s all these fat-ass chickenhawk vietnammers back to sending boys out to die in the sand………like, son-of-a-bitch, where’d THEY come from??

so they got to endure 8 yrs of of Obama’s ending the recession and now wow how now brown cow…….

  45. The way i see it, only two people speak for me- yours, truly, and my president.  At least one of them is making me look like an ass.

You have a side?  Go figure.

  47. im all for saying oh that’s bad over some nitwit stunt or other, after all, its what we holler at them every time there’s a Portland or a dylan roof……silence….. where we get angst-ridden tempests in tea pots over Kathy’s head, and huge investigations over proven bullshit like Benghazi and the emails, all their foulness goes mostly ineffectively unanswered…….their Dylan Roofs, Ted Nugents, their ignoring Garland, and all their greedy meanspirited manipulation of everything for themselves in general……

They say to the people:  and the rest of you…….maybe you should just die if you cant live off dust and sticks.

  48. Trump is the victim in Kathy’s picture.  It was a foolish move on her part.   She messed up.

  49. far as im concerned, the Greens can go suck an egg, the Bernies can all go wait in the truck along with the Naders,

i want democrats to get up on their hind legs and shake some shit out da tree.

  50. If you are speaking truth to power — people everywhere should admit they all wish he would die  she just visualized it in a not publicly acceptable way

    she’s a victim

    weird

  52. covfefe……..maybe he was trying to say coffee and stuttered…….like Foster Brooks…….

  53. Trump is the victim in Kathy’s picture.

LOL, Bullshit! There is only one victim here and that is Kathy. She is experiencing what it is like to take on the powerful. She is being hit with the full force of the presidency with all the governmental powers he has.

just goes to show Bernie bros are fake liberals

    Jack

  54. Jack. May I associate myself with your “LOL, Billshit” comment?  Hope you don’t mind.

  55. The beheaded in the picture IS the victim in the picture.  How outraged would you be if it was a depiction of someone you liked?    You are some of the most narrow-minded folks; not very liberal, at all.

    Have a weekend.

  56. yes i can see that Blue only meant he was the victim in the picture…….which is also the only place he was……

  57. I’ve been watching Foster Brooks videos trying to find one where he says the word “coffee”…….there has to be one……….lol

  58. Sturge, not unless that was really his head in the picture. Then yeah maybe Blue might have a point.

There are the victims of her bad comedy but they are willing victims so they don’t count either. “I paid good money, by damn I’ll have to laugh”

    pogo, more the merrier.

    Jack

  59. Sturge, you are a tougher man than I am. I haven’t listened to Foster Brooks since I left home in 71. After that I controlled the TV.
