  1. The steady tick of the countdown clock continues.  The jollies continue from the floater’s brown noses, including crowning the guy “king”.

I had never thought that Social Security would go away, I was always sure that the idiots in Congress would leave it alone.  Now with the lunatic coming in and a load of judges being put in place to reshape the third branch of the country in the image of the floater, I can see Social Security being destroyed.  There is only the fear of a minority of rnc members about their future which will stop the destruction of America.

What to do on the 26th?  Laying around is not on the list.  Clean house?  Sigh.

  2. traditional day for literally ex-changing unwanted, unsuitable gifts. 3rd biggest shopping day for what one thinks they really want.

too bad we can’t trade-up, trade-in or just get a refund on the twit-elect.  re-gifting him to vlad is an alternative but that means keeping him wrapped up (under wraps at least), unopened and closeted (see no evil hear no evil…out of the limelight).

for decency sake at least make him stop playing with  his twitter

  3. craig, your wreath now has a “morning after” look to it with its soulful eyes,  sticking out its tongue and giving the world a well-deserved razzberry.   must say that aquiline nose is quite handsome tho

what an appropriate face as we face the coming year

  4. blueINdallas,

A little late with the reply, but thanks for talking about Christmas Cactus. Gram (my Mom’s Mom) grew the most gorgeous flowering cactus. She had a true knack with succulents, African violets, geraniums. No fancy lights or heating pads, just a great instinct + knowing which windows to keep them.

Much gratitude for the warm memories. Best part of the season.

  5. The title today may be a wee bit depressing, but the pic that comes with it has only one joyful message:  May the love of dog be with you always.

  6. Toby’s a natural!

We are too old for what we did yesterday and today there will be no activity plus it’s cold here.

  7. I had a lovely day yesterday so I’m not slumping, I’m still glowing 😀

Dear Toby, the tryptophan will wear off and you’ll be your old self again. Hope you got a new toy to chew up for Christmas!

XXX <3<3<3 OOO love to all!

  8. Granny

I love that the British slang for “fart” is “Trump”.  We get to look forward to a whole lot of Trump twitter  Trumping

  9. Trump should shut down his Twitter account after he’s sworn in. Maybe Ivanka can gift him a journal and a shredder so he can get his unfiltered thoughts out & then dispose of them.

  10. BID

    Never heard this one before

This song was published in a collection of mostly Spanish songs in Venice in 1556, and is known from only a single surviving copy of the book known as the Cancionero de Upsala. This particular song, or villancico is written in a late form of Old Castilian, which is the primary ancestral language of modern Spanish. However, since it is written in a dialect of Spanish that is over 450 years old, it may be largely incomprehensible to speakers of modern Spanish, and may also now seem more like Portuguese! So why isn’t it medieval? — because the medieval era in music ended about 150 years before Riu Riu Chiu was published! This is renaissance music (c.1400-1600).

  11. Aren’t there normal channels through which world leaders get their info?  Is the story about Pakistan reacting to fake news about Israel a fake story?   Tower of freakin’ Babel, these days.

  12. Jamie – Thanks.  I just love it.

Also, love muenster grilled cheese with lingonberry jam, ensuring I’ll probably never completely give up dairy.  So glad the store finally got jam this year.

sj – It’s been so dreary (but warm) this week, it appears the white cactus may be holding out for 2017. It’s 12 legs long, and the hot pink only 3 or 4 legs, so it’s way ahead.

  13. Of news that is fun.  Gale Storm went in to the Chesapeake Bay on her own this morning.  Up to her chest before she realized she was in water.  It only took three times of me picking her up and putting her in it before she got the idea.  No pictures, I was too busy introducing water to a water dog.  This is the first step towards taking her out on a boat.  No yachting until she proves she can swim.

Notes from the nature trail.  The Arctic Snow Geese arrived a week ago to the Chesapeake Bay area where I live.  They are fantastic geese.  They summer in the Arctic and winter in various locations, like where I live.  Gale was very interested in them, but we stayed about 100 meters from them.

  14. “Aren’t there normal channels through which world leaders get their info?  Is the story about Pakistan reacting to fake news about Israel a fake story?”

bid, when in doubt check politifact out

here’s what cbs morning show had to say about Fake news caused a tense exchange between nuclear powers Pakistan and Israel. Pakistan’s foreign minister sent out a tweet on Friday, apparently responding to a false story that Israel had threatened to use its nuclear arsenal. The tweet reminded Israel of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons. Tony Dokoupil reports on the growing concern over made-up news. they talked to politifact about  how dangerous and confusing fake news can be.

  15. okay, boxing day is about over so move on to monty python’s

  16. lest we forget

Our favourite children’s show host tells us the story of Canada’s biggest holiday.

  17. Bronc

I love James Michener novels.  One of my favorites is Chesapeake where he devotes a whole chapter to the geese.  It is an absolute masterpiece of descriptive literature.

The original dust jacket for the book featured an image of geese in flight. In 1978, a reporter observed that, if it had not been for a gaggle of geese that James A. Michener saw feeding in an Eastern Shore cornfield, the novelist might have chosen a topic other than the Chesapeake. Michener chose the Bay “because I felt an identity with those birds so overpowering that I knew I had found the leitmotif for my novel.”

  18. glad Michener found his leitmotif…. terrible to lose those things.

but then when they turn up disguised as “good night Irene” like earwigs and brain eating bacteria, just as soon not find mind

  19. The pi$$ing contest between Obama & Trump is pathetic. Obama says he could’ve beaten Trump.  Um, that sounds like Trump’s silly, unfounded bragging, and, all he really did was take a swipe at Hillary.

  20. I find it fascinating that Bibi is siding with the candidate supported by the neo Nazis and rejects the one that negotiated the biggest payment to Israel in history as part of the Iraq deal to keep them from nuking the country.

  21. Jamie, another to add to your list for annus horribilis

    from wapo:

Vera Rubin, an astronomer who proved the existence of dark matter, one of the fundamental principles in the study of the universe, but who battled sex discrimination throughout her career, died Dec. 25 at an assisted living facility in Princeton, N.J. She was 88.

She had dementia, said a son, Allan Rubin.

Dr. Rubin’s groundbreaking discoveries, made primarily with physicist W. Kent Ford, have revolutionized the way scientists observe, measure and understand the universe.

The concept of “dark matter,” an unknown substance among stars in distant galaxies, had existed since the 1930s, but it was not proved until Dr. Rubin’s studies with Ford in the 1970s. It is considered one of the most significant and fundamental advances in astronomy during the 20th century.

and another reminder for us – do not go gentle into that dark matter

  22. nice email note from Hillary to her supporters yesterday:

While we didn’t achieve the outcome we sought, I’m proud of the vision and values we fought for and the nearly 66 million people who voted for them.

I believe it is our responsibility to keep doing our part to build a better, stronger, and fairer future for our country and the world.

The holidays are a time to be thankful for our blessings. So let us rejoice in this season and look forward with renewed hope and determination.

I wish you and your family health, happiness, and continued strength for the New Year and the work ahead.

  23. I found the biggest slight to Dr. Rubin was the failure of the Nobel committee to award her and her co-discoverer the Nobel Prize for the discovery of dark matter.

  24. Pat, the poor Canadians suffering through the commercialization of Boxing Day.

As it was related to me in England, the holiday was the day for domestic employees to receive their annual rewards from the landed gentry. On Christmas Day, those employees would, of course, be catering to every whim and fancy of the bosses and bosstresses.

  25. My school in Pennsylvania was built on farm land provided by the Michener family. My dorm was part of the converted barn. It was, and still is, a special place–Solebury School in New Hope, Pa.

  26. Carrie Fisher died on Tuesday, December 27, four days after suffering a heart attack. The Star Wars icon was 60.

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” family spokesman Simon Halls said in a statement to Us Weekly. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
