The Assault On Mueller

Carl Sandburg: “If the facts are against you, argue the law. If the law is against you, argue the facts. If the law and the facts are against you, pound the table and yell like hell.”

Or, if you’re a right wing media provocateur seeing your president collapsing, attack the prosecutor. While it is possible Trump’s media supporters are preparing the ground for covering him if he fires Mueller my hunch is they’re arming up for an impeachment war they fear coming.

  • Newt Gingrich on FOX last week: “Robert Mueller is corrupt. The senior FBI is corrupt. The system is corrupt.” [On May 17, 2017, Gingrich tweeted: “Robert Mueller is superb choice to be special counsel. His reputation is impeccable for honesty and integrity. Media should now calm down.”]
  • Laura Ingraham: “What we’re seeing here is a pattern and practice of Mueller hiring known Clinton and Obama political insiders and boosters, supporters, to undo a presidential election.”
  • Sean Hannity: “Mueller is frankly a disgrace to the American justice system and has put the country now on the brink of becoming a banana republic.”
  • FOX host Greg Jarrett: “The Mueller investigation is illegitimate and corrupt. And Mueller has been using the FBI as a political weapon. And the FBI has become America’s secret police. … It’s like the old KGB.”
  • Steve Doocy, FOX News anchor: “The people who are handling all of these sensitive investigations look like they’ve had their thumb on the scale of justice, tipping it toward Hillary and away from Donald Trump.”
  • FOX Anchor Jeanine Pirro: “The stench coming out of the Justice Department and the FBI is like that of a third world country. It’s time to take them out in cuffs.”
  • FOX commentator Michelle Malkin: “There has to be a root and branch removal of this cesspool of crap weasels that have infested the highest echelons of all of our law enforcement agencies.”
  • More Hannity: “Robert Mueller’s partisan, extremely biased, hyper-partisan attack team – these Trump-hating investigators need to be shut down and shut down immediately.”

Carl Bernstein about FOX (on CNN): “They’re abetting a cover up.”

  1. another take on it from

the hill: Trump accusers to unite for first time, demand congressional investigation into allegations

Women who have publicly accused President Trump of sexual misconduct will call for Congress to investigate the allegations at a press conference on Monday.

The women will unite for the first time to demand the probe and share details of their allegations against Trump, according to a press release.

The conference is being hosted by Brave New Films, a documentary group that released a film about the allegations against Trump in November.

  2. abc: Haley: Trump’s accusers of sex misconduct should be heard

bet she didn’t know it would be the next day when she said this yesterday.

have a feeling nikki is persona non grata now at mal a ego.

  3. “There has to be a root and branch removal of this cesspool of crap weasels that have infested the highest echelons of Fox News.”

I took the liberty to correct Ms Malkin’s quote to reflect facts vs #FakeNewsFacts.

The appearance of a Steve Doocy quote listed anywhere other than in a cautionary tale for future journalists reflects just how far we have lost our way as a rational, thinking society. Fox News is a safe harbor for the deliberately ignorant, for which I salute the Murdochs. They read the tea leaves better than anyone else & exploited the low hanging fruit. This doesn’t excuse other media though or more importantly, us. Intellectual curiosity & the encouragement of such begins at home. You raise your kids, not Fox, not msnbc, not outside unknowns on the internet. I truly believe not cultivating interest in thinking & education is a form of abuse. Exhibit A, guv’ner, is the society we have today.

  4. patd,

The summer of 2016  I wrote nothing would be better than for the Republican Candidate (now known as #45) to be defeated/taken down by a woman. In that context I was referring to Secretary Clinton. Will say that the same sentiments extend to any woman, anywhere, anytime. No statute of limitations applies.

  5. from fox newsinsider:  Rep. King: Worst Thing Trump Could Do Is Remove Mueller

Rep. Peter King thinks the worst thing President Trump could do in the Russia investigation is remove Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

“Not because he’s doing such a great job, but the president’s lawyers are confident this is going in the right direction,” King (R-N.Y.) said on “Sunday Morning Futures.” “I don’t want to give the Democrats, the media an opportunity to blow this up and come up with another phony issue.”

King acknowledged that there have been mistakes in Mueller’s probe into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and it has become tiresome to see so many Trump associates called in to be interviewed by Mueller’s team.

King, who was present for Donald Trump Jr.’s recent interview with the House Intelligence Committee, said there is still no evidence of any collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.

“Nobody listening to that interview could come out of that thinking there was any collusion at all. This is totally phony, but I don’t want to give them a chance to talk about another ‘Saturday Night Massacre,'” King said, referring to Richard Nixon’s 1973 firing of a special prosecutor and the resignation of his attorney general during the Watergate scandal.

King added that another special counsel could step in and drag the investigation out even longer.

“I think it’s better to just go along with it right now and get it wrapped up and over and done with,” he said.

1,180 drones took to the sky and created a magnificent light show on Thursday during the Fortune Global Forum in Guangzhou City, southern China’s Guangdong Province. The show lasted for 8 minutes with the drones displaying words like “Fortune Global Forum” and “Innovation.”

Footage of more than a thousand illuminated drones being launched to celebrate the 2017 Fortune Global Forum being held in Guangzhou City in southern China’s Guangdong Province. The video, shot on December 7, shows the illuminated drones being launched into the night sky and forming Chinese characters and English letters as well as other patterns. In total, 1,180 drones were used. The Fortune Global Forum has convened business leaders since 1995.

  7. that china drone show was awesome and almost as scary as their Olympic opening ceremony wow performance.

  8. WAPO op-ed: “The mounting attacks on Mueller are misguided and dangerous” (George Washington University law professor Randall Elliason)

Those who would seek to undermine this cornerstone of our justice system based on such flimsy evidence should think twice about what they are doing. Norms and institutions are fragile things not easily restored once the public loses confidence in them. Destroying the fundamental norm under which we have operated for more than two centuries — that criminal law is not used for political purposes — will send this country to a dark place where we don’t want to be.

  9. Moscow Mueller is so many weeks ahead of the news coming from the investigation.   He must be close to the data/ballot heist portion…the most secret, quiet part of the investigation.  When we find out trump is not a legitimate potus, the repug party is complicit and faux news is treasonous.  The ruskies had help integrating voter data, digital media and cable news for the trump gang.

  10. “Destroying the fundamental norm under which we have operated for more than two centuries — that criminal law is not used for political purposes — will send this country to a dark place where we don’t want to be”  and leads to stuff like this

abcnews:  Pipe bomb strapped to man explodes in NYC subway, injuring 4

A man with a pipe bomb strapped to him set off the crude device in the subway near Times Square on Monday, injuring the suspect and three other people at the height of the morning rush hour.

The man and three others were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries in what the mayor and police labeled an attempted terror attack.

The explosion happened in an underground passageway under 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. The 7:30 a.m. blast caused smoke to fill the passageway, which was crowded with throngs of Monday morning commuters.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill labeled it an attempted terror attack.

“Thank God the perpetrator did not achieve his ultimate goals,” de Blasio said.

  11. On a personal note, thanks for the birthday wishes.  Party week begins and ends with ‘When I’m 64!’

  12.

Let me add some birthday wishes here…

on another note – someone hacked a friends account and tried to scam me for $550  I would have sent the money but the address etc was odd so no go

As for attacking Mueller the Grand Old Pervs will stop at nothing to line their pockets with more money to spend on themselves and their 3rd or 4th wives

  13. Hannity and icky ilk should take note of this line in us constitution art 3 sec 3:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.

and ponder how what they say is adhering to our enemies and giving them aid.

to be sure more than the required 2 witnesses are available and willing in a heartbeat to testify that adhering and aiding enemies is exactly what they heard them say, write and broadcast nationwide.

  14. msn:

Three of the women accusing him of sexual misconduct appeared Monday on Megyn Kelly TODAY to share their experiences with Trump.

“It was heartbreaking last year. We’re private citizens and for us to put ourselves out there to try and show America who this man is and how he views women, and for them to say ‘eh, we don’t care,’ it hurt,” said Samantha Holvey, who claims Trump would walk into dressing rooms during the Miss America pageant in 2006. She competed that year in the pageant.

“No one dreams of being ogled when you’re a little girl wanting to wear a crown,” she said.

Joining Holvey on Megyn Kelly TODAY was also Jessica Leeds, who says Trump groped her on a plane in the 1970s, and Rachel Crooks, a Trump Tower receptionist who alleges he kissed her on the mouth in 2005.

  16. Slightly off topic (As if we could get away from the Moore-Jones race) Wapo-Schar School poll a couple weeks ago found –  “Among white non-college women, Moore led by 36 points. Among white women who graduated from college, Jones led by 15 points.”  In a (gag me) Frank Luntz focus group a porition of which was aired on MoJo this morning, one idiot guy who looked to be in his mid to late 50s said that 40 years ago – when Moore was hanging at the mall and being kicked out of it for lurking around teenage girls, it was different because his (the idiot in the focus group’s ) grandmother married at 13 and at 15 had 2 kids and a job.  First, I call bullshit – even if he was right, and even if his mama was one of those kids who his gramma had between her 13th and 15th year and followed gramma’s example of screwing around and getting married before she would have been in high school and had him between her 13th & 15th birthday,  if he’s 55 and you add 13 more years to that that’s 68 years ago- when ole Roy was 2. And unless things were much different in rural Alabama, girls were not getting married at 13.  And in the 70s the age of consent in Alabama was 16 (was that age since 1920), so I call double bullshit. Oh, and they invoked George Soros’ name – must listen to Hannity a lot.

These morons are looking for excuses to vote for the newest potential repug swamp slime.

As for the topic du jour, Mueller is a Republican. The people who he places in positions in the investigation are employees of NoRegard.

  17. Renee, I wouldn’t hold my breath. “Thomas T. Gallion III, a Montgomery lawyer whose father was the state’s attorney general, voiced the often unstated perspective of Alabama’s elite as to why Mr. Moore was viable. ‘The rest of the state is in a time warp,’ he said. ‘They never progressed out of the ’50s. They don’t think. It’s sad.’”” Wapo, today.

  18. SJWNY did my talking for me today.  Therefore I heartedly endorse his opinions.  In the interest of getting a word in edgewise I would like to propose:

    Klobuchar/Booker or Klobuchar/Joe Kennedy III or Klobuchar/Castro

Pick your favorite demographic for the VP position

  19. If I sit on Santa’s lap & tell him what I want for Christmas, does that qualify as attorney/client privilege?

  20. Faux Noise, doing Goebbels proud.

I get really tired of the alt-right hiding behind the Bible, too.  It makes it harder for actual Christians.

It sounds like Repugz will be running on cutting Social Security, and Paul Ryan sounds pumped up about it.  Bye-bye, then.

  21. Meghan Kelley had some of the women from the Time cover story on her show last week.   At least NBC is letting her do one, real news story each day.

Why does every show on these days devolve into passing out gifts to the studio audience greedy?  Unless they are military families or have a special needs child, but they just don’t need to do that for ladies-who-lunch.

  22. politico: How Trump came around to an accused child molester
The inside story of President Donald Trump’s full embrace of scandal-tarred Roy Moore.
Mitch McConnell had publicly disavowed Roy Moore when the Senate majority leader received one of several phone calls from President Donald Trump. McConnell wanted Trump’s help to push Moore out of the Alabama Senate race after he’d been accused of harassing or molesting teenage girls.

Instead, the president’s response left the straight-laced McConnell aghast.

Trump, according to three sources briefed on the discussions, cast doubt on the claims leveled by Moore’s accusers. Who were these women, he asked, and why had they kept quiet for 40 years only to level charges weeks before an election?

Trump’s sentiment — he has also complained privately that the avalanche of charges taking down prominent men is spinning out of control — helps explain the president’s evolving attitude toward Moore over the past three weeks, when he has gone from uncharacteristic silence to a full-throated endorsement of the controversial candidate. The shift has benefited both men, helping the scandal-tarred Moore bounce back from what looked like a probable defeat to become a slight favorite in Tuesday’s special election — and offering the president a chance to claim credit if Moore ekes out a win.

Trump capped his endorsement at a Friday night rally in Pensacola, Florida, just 20 miles from the Alabama border. It was designed to be a crafty sleight-of-hand — a way for Trump to help Moore without venturing directly into Alabama. But by the time Air Force One touched down in the Florida Panhandle, a person close to Trump said, he might as well have been in Mobile or Birmingham. He was all in for the accused child molester.

White House aides advised the president against getting involved in the contest, and his endorsement is a testament to the futility of trying to guide a boss guided by instinct who relishes taunting the political establishment he now runs. That includes not just McConnell but members of his own staff and even his daughter Ivanka, whose harsh words for Moore worked only to push the president in the opposite direction.

interestingly in that same article above is a quote of roy’s during his appearance on Sean Hannity’s show on Nov. 10

“If we did go out on dates, then we did,” Moore said of one of his accusers, Debbie Wesson Gibson, who was 17 at the time. “But I do not remember that.”

which doesn’t match what he said yesterday a month later

“These allegations are completely false. I did not date underaged women. I did not molest anyone. And so these allegations are false,” Moore said during the interview with The Voice of Alabama Politics, a television news show affiliated with the website The Alabama Political Reporter.

“I do not know them. I had no encounter with them. I never molested anyone. And for them to say that, I don’t know why they’re saying it, but it’s not true,” the 70-year-old Moore said.

“I said I did not know any of the women who have charged me with sexual allegation of molestation. And I did not know any of the women,” Moore added. “When I saw these pictures on the advertisements of my opponent, I did not recognize any of those people. I did not know them.”

  23. excerpt from wapo’s Trump accusers renew sexual misconduct charges against him, say it was ‘heartbreaking’ to see him elected

    [….]

The news conference was organized by Brave New Films, a nonprofit group launched by Robert Greenwald, an Emmy Award-winning producer, with the goal of promoting activism around progressive causes through short low-budget documentaries. The group has a budget of about $2.6 million, according to Jim Miller, its executive director.

The company, which aims for mass free distribution via YouTube and other social networks, has produced videos about gun control and mass incarceration. In November, it posted a video about the women accusing Trump, weaving together clips of them retelling their stories. That video, along with the news conference, was funded by donations of between $5 and $50 that came in response to social media and email solicitations, the group said.

Greenwald said after the video was launched, his group decided to reach out to the women, some of whom hesitated when they received an email about it.

“I didn’t want to go through it all again,” Holvey said in an interview after the news conference, recalling the backlash a year ago and the feeling that she hadn’t been heard. But the idea of getting together with other women who had similar experiences interested her.

“As a group there might be more of an impact,” she said. And she was also noticing a change in her Facebook feed in the #metoo era, seeing people asking: “What about Trump?”

Some women contacted by Brave New Films were too fearful of joining the news conference, Greenwald said. The three who did gather met at a dinner Sunday night for the first time.

Beyond pushing for renewed attention to their claims, it was unclear what the women hoped would be the next step after the news conference. Greenwald said that answer would come later, saying for now that he believes “we have an opportunity.”

Leeds said at the news conference Monday that none of the women were speaking publicly for fame, but instead were doing it because they felt it was the right thing to do.

“None of us want this attention,” Leeds said at the news conference. “None of us are comfortable with it … But this is important, so when asked, we speak out.”

  24. The double standard is stunning.  I’m on board with Franken saying he’ll step away from the Senate as soon as Moore does (assuming Jones doesn’t pull off the nearly unthinkable and wins).

  25. This is what the high ground looks like, why Franken and Conyers had to go. Zero tolerance:

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand calls upon Trump to resign over the dozen-plus allegations that he sexually harassed or assaulted multiple women https://t.co/qz24AUHZhc

  26. pogo, the only way al could do that would be as you said earlier that until that time when roy resigns he will speak out and work diligently, co-sponsor and vote for every pro-women’s rights legislation and action humanly possible.  that’s more of a threat than just hanging in there.

Macron awards US scientists grants to move to France in defiance of Trump

France’s president awards millions of euros to 18 American scientists to relocate in effort to counter Donald Trump on the climate change front

Eighteen climate scientists from the US and elsewhere have hit the jackpot as France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, awarded them millions of euros in grants to relocate to France for the rest of Donald Trump’s presidential term.

The “Make Our Planet Great Again” grants – a nod to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan – are part of Macron’s efforts to counter Trump on the climate change front. Macron announced a contest for the projects in June, hours after Trump declared he would withdraw the US from the Paris climate accord.

    […]

“We will be there to replace” US financing of climate research, Macron told the winners in Paris on Monday.

“If we want to prepare for the changes of tomorrow, we need science,” he said, promising to put in place a global climate change monitoring system among other climate innovations.

The research of the winning recipients focuses on pollution, hurricanes and clouds. A new round of the competition will be launched next year, alongside Germany. About 50 projects will be chosen overall, and funded with 60m euros ($70m) from the state and French research institutes.

Initially aimed at American researchers, the research grants were expanded to other non-French climate scientists, according to organizers. Candidates need to be known for working on climate issues, have completed a thesis and propose a project that would take between three to five years.

The time frame would cover Trump’s current presidential term.

  28. Patd, I hear you on Al, and agree. And I’d be in with that.

While I agree that the party calling for resignations of members of the opposing party over allegations of sexual misconduct cannot credibly do so unless it has called for resignations of its own party members for similar allegations, I do not believe, absent seeing it actually result in (a) resignations or (b) the refusal of opposing party voters to elect candidates who have been accused, that taking the high road will have any real effect.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m good with doing what it takes to occupy a position of moral superiority, but it’s POLITICS, and gaining the moral high ground without results is foot shooting 101. Or maybe I take too short a view of these things.

  29. Pogo: “the moral high ground without results”

There’s a tsunami of votes heading toward Dems thanks to the foresight of Gillibrand et al. Unless Dems clinging to their Franken chew toy mess it up.

  30. Poobah I hope everything you say comes to pass. ?

Btw I’m much better at predicting the past than the future.

  31. As someone with a Franken chew toy i her mouth, I will state that while it was totally unfair, it was a political necessity.  This does not make me thrilled with either Gillibrand or Harris and puts me firmly in the Klobuchar camp because I do hold grudges.   I’m still pissed off about Hillary Clinton and think Bernie Sanders should go somewhere and rot if only because he smells to high heaven.  I would love to see Franken run again for the office once the seat opens up again.

  32. Setting aside the above, I would like to nominate myself for sainthood as I spent over three hours on line and by phone with Comcast just to get a change in service and add a phone to my computer.  This was done without once swearing at the person in points outside of the US or strangling the cat because she kept jumping in front of the keyboard.  Sakura always knows when I’m upset and tries her best to comfort.  Maybe I should nominate her for sainthood instead.

  33. fair enough Jamie, sometimes “political necessity” requires a big dose of anti-acids

and re: Comcast — just wait until we start getting the bills for effects of abolishing net neutrality

On the upside, all three network nightly newscasts did lengthy reports on Trump accusers

  34. Per Wapo:

Trump’s legal team and senior White House aides are refusing to say when and how the president first learned that Flynn had lied to the FBI.” After the news broke that Flynn had made a plea dealadmitting to these lies, Trump tweeted that he’d fired Flynn becausehe lied to the FBI, suggesting he knew of this lying at the time, though his attorney has since insisted that this isn’t what he meant.

Right. But then is anything SF says what he means?  The call is yours.

  35. Pogo: “hope everything you say comes to pass”

I’ll shimmy on out the limb here, Moore gonna lose.

Blue-collar and suburban white women who’ve leaned GOP in the past are fed up with this sexist crap, boosted by seeing the nation wake up to it, watching Dem leaders stand up. And if it happens in Alabama, even just a little bit, and even if not quite enough to elect the Dem, it can happen anywhere.

Dems are not as adept as Republicans at wedge politics but this time folks you’ve got a freakin sledge hammer. Use it

  36. Alabama’s inferiority complex can end tomorrow by rejecting a retro idiot who perpetuates your state’s image as stuck in antebellum lunacy.

  37. Jamie or saint Jamie if you prefer, fitting anointment as james was the first to be martyred and had a “fiery temper” according to wiki.  we bow to you who willingly sacrificed herself on the Comcast pyre.
