Rep. Peter King thinks the worst thing President Trump could do in the Russia investigation is remove Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
“Not because he’s doing such a great job, but the president’s lawyers are confident this is going in the right direction,” King (R-N.Y.) said on “Sunday Morning Futures.” “I don’t want to give the Democrats, the media an opportunity to blow this up and come up with another phony issue.”
King acknowledged that there have been mistakes in Mueller’s probe into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and it has become tiresome to see so many Trump associates called in to be interviewed by Mueller’s team.
King, who was present for Donald Trump Jr.’s recent interview with the House Intelligence Committee, said there is still no evidence of any collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.
“Nobody listening to that interview could come out of that thinking there was any collusion at all. This is totally phony, but I don’t want to give them a chance to talk about another ‘Saturday Night Massacre,'” King said, referring to Richard Nixon’s 1973 firing of a special prosecutor and the resignation of his attorney general during the Watergate scandal.
King added that another special counsel could step in and drag the investigation out even longer.
“I think it’s better to just go along with it right now and get it wrapped up and over and done with,” he said.

A man with a pipe bomb strapped to him set off the crude device in the subway near Times Square on Monday, injuring the suspect and three other people at the height of the morning rush hour.
The man and three others were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries in what the mayor and police labeled an attempted terror attack.
The explosion happened in an underground passageway under 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. The 7:30 a.m. blast caused smoke to fill the passageway, which was crowded with throngs of Monday morning commuters.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill labeled it an attempted terror attack.

Mitch McConnell had publicly disavowed Roy Moore when the Senate majority leader received one of several phone calls from President Donald Trump. McConnell wanted Trump’s help to push Moore out of the Alabama Senate race after he’d been accused of harassing or molesting teenage girls.
Instead, the president’s response left the straight-laced McConnell aghast.
Trump, according to three sources briefed on the discussions, cast doubt on the claims leveled by Moore’s accusers. Who were these women, he asked, and why had they kept quiet for 40 years only to level charges weeks before an election?
Trump’s sentiment — he has also complained privately that the avalanche of charges taking down prominent men is spinning out of control — helps explain the president’s evolving attitude toward Moore over the past three weeks, when he has gone from uncharacteristic silence to a full-throated endorsement of the controversial candidate. The shift has benefited both men, helping the scandal-tarred Moore bounce back from what looked like a probable defeat to become a slight favorite in Tuesday’s special election — and offering the president a chance to claim credit if Moore ekes out a win.
Trump capped his endorsement at a Friday night rally in Pensacola, Florida, just 20 miles from the Alabama border. It was designed to be a crafty sleight-of-hand — a way for Trump to help Moore without venturing directly into Alabama. The news conference was organized by Brave New Films, a nonprofit group launched by Robert Greenwald, an Emmy Award-winning producer, with the goal of promoting activism around progressive causes through short low-budget documentaries. The group has a budget of about $2.6 million, according to Jim Miller, its executive director.
The company, which aims for mass free distribution via YouTube and other social networks, has produced videos about gun control and mass incarceration. In November, it posted a video about the women accusing Trump, weaving together clips of them retelling their stories. That video, along with the news conference, was funded by donations of between $5 and $50 that came in response to social media and email solicitations, the group said.
Greenwald said after the video was launched, his group decided to reach out to the women, some of whom hesitated when they received an email about it.
“I didn’t want to go through it all again,” Holvey said in an interview after the news conference, recalling the backlash a year ago and the feeling that she hadn’t been heard. But the idea of getting together with other women who had similar experiences interested her.

While I agree that the party calling for resignations of members of the opposing party over allegations of sexual misconduct cannot credibly do so unless it has called for resignations of its own party members for similar allegations, I do not believe, absent seeing it actually result in (a) resignations or (b) the refusal of opposing party voters to elect candidates who have been accused, that taking the high road will have any real effect.
Don’t get me wrong – I’m good with doing what it takes to occupy a position of moral superiority, but it’s POLITICS, and gaining the moral high ground without results is foot shooting 101. Or maybe I take too short a view of these things.

As someone with a Franken chew toy i her mouth, I will state that while it was totally unfair, it was a political necessity. This does not make me thrilled with either Gillibrand or Harris and puts me firmly in the Klobuchar camp because I do hold grudges. I’m still pissed off about Hillary Clinton and think Bernie Sanders should go somewhere and rot if only because he smells to high heaven. I would love to see Franken run again for the office once the seat opens up again.
