Last night Pumpkin Head posted this word salad previewing some sort of announcement today on his abortion stance…
@realDonaldTrump I will be putting out my statement on Abortion and Abortion Rights tomorrow morning. Republicans, and all others, must follow their hearts and minds, but remember that, like Ronald Reagan before me, I, and most other Republicans, believe in EXCEPTIONS for Rape, Incest, and Life of the Mother. Great love and compassion must be shown when even thinking about the subject of LIFE, but at the same time we must use common sense in realizing that we have an obligation to the salvation of our Nation, which is currently in serious DECLINE, TO WIN ELECTIONS, without which we will have nothing other than failure, death, and destruction. We will not let that happen. We will, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Apr 07, 2024, 10:11 PM
Trump releases video statement on abortion. Strong support for IVF. Brags about abolishing Roe. Support for states making their own laws. No mention of national legislation, for or against. ‘You must follow your hearts on this issue, but remember: you must also win elections.” https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/112235238031827342
A remarkable punt on national limits, this will test antiabortion groups who have insisted he back a federal ban.
And next comes the big con — that he is a moderate on abortion. Don’t think Biden will let him get away with that.
Trump claims “all legal scholars — both sides — wanted and in fact demanded” that Roe v. Wade be overturned. Ridiculous. He also says Democrats support abortion after birth (he calls it “execution”) — which is insane and not true.
NYT: “Politically, Mr. Trump’s announcement that abortion be left to the states will allow Democrats to tag him with some of the strictest abortion laws in the country, including a six-week ban in Florida that Mr. Trump has said was a “terrible mistake.”
Daily Beast: “The legal document from Knight Specialty Insurance Company doesn’t actually promise it will pay the money if the former president loses his $464 million bank fraud case on appeal. Instead, it says Trump will pay, negating the whole point of an insurance company guarantee.”
New information shows that the insurance company that swooped in and bailed out Trump with a $175 million bond isn’t on a list of vetted companies—and wrote a bizarre contract.
“‘There are many questions here, and that short piece of paper gives very little comfort,’ said Maria T. Vullo, who was formerly New York’s top financial regulator.
“‘I believe this paper isn’t worth much and there are more shenanigans behind it,’ said one former regulator, who’s intimately familiar with industry norms but spoke only on condition of anonymity.”
Among the questions left unanswered in his statement today is how Florida resident Trump will vote in November on the state’s ballot measure to protect abortion rights.
LP and I are headed west to see it. 30 miles west of zen the skies cleared and it’s SUNNY. (Hopefully it holds as we continue toward the path of totality.

Headed south east myself to the Mark Twain national forest. A little research on line, it looks as if the natives are in tourist harvesting mode. one school in the area is offering to let the general public use their football stadium to view the eclipse for a mere $20. I look for a lot of hastily erected no parking signs along the streets and many front yards offering parking for a fee. So I’m headed to the more rural areas and a wide spot in the road.

“Trump is scrambling,” said Biden. “He’s worried that since he’s the one responsible for overturning Roe the voters will hold him accountable in 2024… As I have said many times since the Dobbs decision, Donald Trump and all those responsible for overturning Roe don’t have a clue about the power of women in America. But they are about to find out. Trump once said women must be punished for seeking reproductive health care — and he’s gotten his wish. Women are being turned away from emergency rooms, forced to go to court to seek permission for the medical attention they need, and left to travel hundreds of miles for health care.”
“Published in 1993, the NIH Revitalization Actmarked a shift in healthcare generally and in clinical trials specifically, codifying the idea that all NIH-funded research needed to include minorities and women, including those of childbearing age. Now, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the NIH Revitalization Act on June 10, 2023, here are 10 facts to illustrate its significance – and the progress that still can be made.”
Thirty years. Only 30 years ago since including women in these studies, and our numbers still pale in comparison.
Doctors don’t even understand women’s bodies. Politicians sure shouldn’t be making decisions about our bodies. Actually, nobody else should make a decision about anyone’s body that isn’t related to public health, like polio, measles, and Donny’s hand herpes.

“Texas is in the minority of states that requires parental consent before a teenager can get birth control, in virtually all circumstances. But there’s long been one exception to that rule: the federal Title X program, which provides confidential contraception regardless of age, income or immigration status.”
“In 2022, a federal judge in Amarillo ruled the Title X program violated Texas parents’ rights. Last month, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld that decision.”
“Now, unlike in the other 49 states, Texas’ 156 Title X clinics must require parental consent for teens. It’s a radical rewriting of a long-standing federal program, and a huge shift for the clinics and the clients they serve.”
My daughter is in Mazatlán. She went to the last one too. She may be an eclipse chaser. I used to chase the Grateful Dead. It didn’t matter if it was cloudy.
That was unreal! It felt like a sci-fi movie, even with some on & off clouds. The next one over land is in 2026. Trailmix roundup in Iceland? We might get volcano action, too.
Starting to warm up again, still have a few minutes though. Spending too much time watching the removal of the Francis Scott Key Bridge from the bow of MV Dali. What a giant mess and so dangerous. A good sight was watching Pride of Baltimore II make her way to one of the temporary channels on her way to her home port in Baltimore. Nice to see.
Senator Lindsey Graham is doing a great disservice to the Republican Party, and to our Country. At first he wanted no Abortions under any circumstances, then he was up to 6 weeks, where you’re allowed Abortion, now he’s up to 15 weeks, where you’re allowed Abortion, but what he doesn’t understand, or perhaps he does, is the Radical Left Democrats, who are destroying our Country, will never approve anything that he or the Republicans want. They love this Issue, and they want to keep it going for as long as Republicans will allow them to do so. Terminating Roe v. Wade was, according to all Legal Scholars, a Great Event, but sometimes with Great Events come difficulties. Many Good Republicans lost Elections because of this Issue, and people like Lindsey Graham, that are unrelenting, are handing Democrats their dream of the House, Senate, and perhaps even the Presidency…
“all legal scholars” Ha!
A) That’s a lie (surprise)
B) Women are the ones who count, not legal scholars (how many can he name?)
Alito & his hench-justices put this issue, which was settled for 50 years, back on the table.
I wish someone would block that fat ball of hot gas from getting anywhere near the WH, again. That would be a great event.
“Republicans win on life when we speak the truth boldly and stand on the principle that we all know to be true – human life begins at conception and should be defended from womb to tomb. However much our Republican nominee or other candidates seek to marginalize the cause of life, I know pro-life Americans will never relent until we see the sanctity of life restored to the center of American law in every state in this country.”
It was a good eclipse, not a great eclipse, but good enough to enjoy. Someone in the community held an eclipse party, they sounded like it started early, you know, just in case. A couple clouds floated by, but nothing to cover it over.
The best part was listening to the birds. Our little peninsula has lots of birds. Big birds, small birds and even birds I did not know existed, Bee eater bird. There were osprey in the sky making a lot of noise. Birds in nests, birds in bushes and trees. All yacking away.
Slowly the cacophony dimmed. Then only one bird, now none. It was quiet for at least twenty minutes. This was not the first eclipse I have been through, but it was the first with animals, birds and me living in their world. Although I had heard and read about birds roosting, this was my first experience. It was great.
It was terrific. 5.5 hours each way and worth every minute.
Ms. Bronc, the Pride II is special. One friend captained her for a season and I lost another friend when Pride I sank. He died trying to save other crew members as she went down. A toast to Vinnie.
At least this (so called) legal scholar disagrees with Dumbass, – a great event? – it was a great opinion. 5 of 9 legal scholars who found a right to privacy broad enough to extend to reproductive rights for women who reproduce agreed it is a right. Those 5 wore black robes. Event my ass.
Just got back, What google said was a 2.5 hr trip turned out to be over three. I think everybody took the same route out of town, The first 40 miles took an hour and half but as people started exiting things picked up and with no traffic on the final 1/3, which was a fun curve filled road. Of course going back I got behind someone who was scared to drive and we went along at 40mph.
Glad I went, it was worth it.

“On Sunday night, Mr Trump posted a bizarre campaign ad on Truth Social where his own head takes on the role of the moon – blocking out the sun and plunging America into total darkness.”
“ As his head covers the entirety of the sun – creating its own solar eclipse – a phrase flashes across the screen: “We will save America. And make it great again.”
I sat outside the shop with my back to the sun and Spike Jones on the box. It got a little odd for awhile but soon was back to normal. We’re a bit off the beaten path of totality over here.
I WOULD like to see a total eclipse of the Lindsay.

Last night Pumpkin Head posted this word salad previewing some sort of announcement today on his abortion stance…
We already know where Trump stands on reproductive freedom — he brags about abolishing it…

Now we can say he supports a 6-week ban.

Even Trump’s Fraud Bond Is A Fraud

Why were Trump’s bond documents rejected – and has this impacted his civil fraud appeal?

“For example, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality in women. But only 38% of participants in cardiovascular clinical trials are women and only 28% of clinical trials analyze data by biological sex, preventing researchers from knowing what results are sex-based or not.”
“As a result, men’s typical heart attack symptoms(chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, and lightheadedness) — not women’s symptoms (chest pain but also flu-like fatigue, nausea, night sweats, and stomach pain) — are considered “typical” for a heart attack. Due to this male default, women are 50% more likely than men to receive the wrong diagnosis after a heart attack and to die the year following their heart attack.”
