late night comics could do wonders with this in their monologues jokewise — sigh — too bad it was released during their christmas break. the guardian Joe Biden is pardoning thousands of people who were convicted of use and simple possession of marijuana on federal lands and in the District of Columbia, the White House said Friday – his latest round of executive clemencies meant to rectify racial disparities in the justice system. The US president is also granting clemency to 11 people serving what the White House called “disproportionately long” sentences for nonviolent drug offenses. Biden said his actions would help make the “promise of equal justice a reality”. “Criminal records for marijuana use and possession have imposed needless barriers to employment, housing, and educational opportunities,” Biden said. “Too many lives have been upended because of our failed approach to marijuana. It’s time that we right these wrongs.” The pardons issued Friday build on his categorical pardon issued just before the 2022 midterm elections that made thousands convicted of simple possession on federal lands eligible for pardons. The White House said thousands more would be eligible under Friday’s action. Biden reiterated his call on state governors and local leaders to take similar steps to erase marijuana convictions. “Just as no one should be in a federal prison solely due to the use or possession of marijuana, no one should be in a local jail or state prison for that reason, either,” Biden said. No one was freed from prison under last year’s action, but the pardons were meant to help thousands overcome obstacles to renting a home or finding a job. Similarly, no federal prisoners are eligible for release as a result of Friday’s action. Biden’s order applies only to marijuana, which has been decriminalized or legalized in many states for some or all uses, but remains a controlled substance under federal law. […] Those eligible can submit applications to the justice department’s pardon attorney office, which issues certificates of pardon. Happiness is finding a set of plates, bowls and cups in the same pattern you have had for more than a decade. Especially when you are down to three plates. No need to get rid of those when you get a new set. Sorry charities, I am hoping to keep this for the long haul. Oh yeah. Learned that this particular set has a propensity to disassemble very easily. That is okay, I at least have the replacements and not from that website that sells a single bowl for the price of single place setting from Mikasa.
A long time ago I would find myself somewhere in a location on December 23 or 24, which was not home. I would have to find a flight(s) back to Denver, arrive in time to bundle up my children and go Christmas shopping for Mommy. Christmas day was the only day I could schedule as a full day off. I was still on call, but the nice co-workers (and others) never bothered me. It was a treat. Sometimes I would have a couple more days off before having to leave again. I hated the travel. Now that I am retired and do not go anywhere, I am asked if I want to go with them, to travel, to see things. I politely decline. No thank you. Plus there are still places I cannot go (but that is a very different story). Being home is a huge happiness.
Each of our lives is a multitude of interconnecting pieces, not unlike a mosaic. What has gone before, what will come today, are at once and always entwined. The past has done its part, never to be erased. The present is always a composite. In months and years gone by, perhaps we anticipated the days with dread. Fearing the worst, often we found it; we generally find that which we fear. But we can influence the mosaic our experiences create. The contribution today makes to our mosaic can lighten its shade, can heighten its contrast, and can make bold its design. What faces us today? A job we enjoy or one we fear? Growing pains of our children? Loneliness? How we move through the minutes, the hours, influences our perception of future minutes and hours. No moment is inviolate. Every moment is part of the whole that we are creating. We are artists. We create our present from influences of our past. I will go forth today; I will anticipate goodness. I will create the kind of moments that will add beauty to my mosaic.
-Each Day a New Beginning
The movie explores a hypothetical, fictitious, and terrifying scenario that pits Americans against other Americans. It’s sure to drive plenty of conversation over upcoming months.—Denver Gazette
Definitely a big fan of old crockery however obtained.
This is the season of the year when I pull out the serving plate and bowl that is older than I am (manufactured sometime in the dark ages) by my aunt’s Mother-in-Law. How it has made it with only a tiny chip in 90 years of existence moving all over creation is a bit of a mystery.
It doesn’t really feel like Christmas around here… no snow. We’re having a green Christmas. And according to the long range forecast… we’re having a green New Year too. Can’t remember that ever happening.
Jamie – a couple I know eats on fine china everyday. Into dishwasher, no cares. They buy at estates sales, off ads, and word of mouth. Some is given to them. The kids and grandkids do not want the stuff. For the most part it is from a long ago era which no longer exists. When my ex and I split there was no discussion over ownership of our wonderful set, I happily left it behind. Hope they go to a good home. Reason I don’t want them is to be guardian of something fine, beautiful and being blamed if they end up in the trash. If I bought someone elses china, then fine do what I want, but my own. . .
This is the latest in my occasional series of conversations about Christianity, aimed at bridging America’s God gulf. Previously, I’ve spoken with the Rev. Timothy Keller, President Jimmy Carter, Cardinal Joseph Tobinand others. Here’s my interview with Beth Moore,an influential evangelical writer who broke with the Southern Baptist Convention in 2021. It has been edited for clarity and length.
IG – Corelle for the boat. I use Mikasa china at home. Many years ago, while still working in the office, I changed how I ate lunch, to I will dine at lunch time. I carried what was essentially a picnic basket, but modern insulated and with ice packs. Cloth napkins, nice silverware, and full meals. The meal would be a production of heating, plating, serving and enjoying. Napkins I bought at Sams club or Costco, very inexpensive but quality. Also, I set tea at 2pm, usually a cheese, meats/sausage, and some form of cracker or such. So tea was brewed in my very nice Japanese or Korean or Chinese tea pot and served in fine tea service. I would invite others to my cube for tea. Yeah, I set a level that few others would attempt to match.
Axios: Trump’s plan to bring back mental institutions
This makes me nervous. Expanding mental institutions is a favorite tool of autocrats for putting away critics and political opponents. Trump’s buddy Putin is a fan. Trump often uses psychiatric terms for foes, such as “Deranged Jack Smith” (already on his hit list for a DOJ purge). MAGA mob would love to lock up transgender people.
…on a very special day in WWI, known as “the Christmas Truce”, opposing soldiers laid down their arms and had a game of football together, demonstrating that even in times of peace, men will divide into sides and compete to see which is dominant
The chairman of the goopers is in big trouble. Talk about bet on the wrong horse.
Must be uncomfortable at romney family get togethers. I hope she gets jail time.
Renee, same at Deep Creek Lake. The couple or 3 inches that fell here mid week is almost all gone now. The Wisp is where you can see snow unless you’re fond of dirty piles of plowed snow in parking lots. Forecast high is 52 tomorrow and 51 Christmas Day. I laughingly say that’s July weather here.
I like Ms Cunk. (If that’s her name rather than her title).
Also the Surfing Drummer Boy song is a new twist….new enough that it caused me to set aside my normal reaction to the mere mention of that dratted little urchin and his annoying little drum.
Ronna effing up at this point leads me to believe that that there are a good many more just waiting for Cap’n Jack’s hammer to fall. Merry Christmas to all of them.
thanks, Jack

A Sunday is another 24-hour day. Any day can be a Sunday (or a holiday.) A Sunday can be an extra long day anytime we want.

At first I thought, Great! No saturday! But I knew it was just an illusion.
Even in Jersey they have Saturdays.

Thank for a lovely satsun experience.

BlueB: saddens me that my family members who always host the gatherings are paper-plate adherents.

Gave most of my dishes away before the cross-country move. I’ve since become a big fan of Corelle. Lightweight, inexpensive, and almost unbreakable.

Right after the Christmas truce ball game they all went back to the business at hand—blowing each other to smithereens.
