Slam Dunk

ABC reports a judge found prosecutors showed “sufficient” evidence Trump “intentionally concealed” existence of classified documents from his lawyer, putting him in an unwitting position to deceive the gov’t—more evidence supporting obstruction charges.

That’s how Mueller team convicted Paul Manafort, lying through his lawyer to the government.

  1. might question whether any of his lawyers have the wits to even be in a witting position let alone an “unwitting” one given some of their recent filings.  maybe they’ll argue that next as they fall on the sword for him.

  2. David Horsey ‘toon and op ed yesterday Trash talk | The Seattle Times

A few years back, a media big shot told me about a time he had been a guest on Sean Hannity’s prime time Fox News show. He had been brought on as a political sparring partner for the conservative host and, afterwards, a smiling Hannity slapped him on the shoulder and said something like, “We both know this is all just for entertainment.”
I was not overly surprised to hear the anecdote. Rush Limbaugh, the godfather of right-wing radio and TV commentators, often unapologetically reminded people he was, first of all, an entertainer. Still, I assumed Hannity, Limbaugh and the other conservative talk meisters actually believed what they were pitching to their audience, even if the rhetoric was ramped up to raise blood pressures, stir anger, promote paranoia and keep the rubes coming back for more.
Now though, given the revelations of internal Fox corporate communications uncovered in Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News, I’m not convinced that these “entertainers” believe in anything but getting rich. Tucker Carlson, in particular, has been exposed as an opportunistic charlatan who will say anything to keep ratings up and Fox’s corporate stock price strong.
Consider what Carlson was saying in private about President Donald Trump, the con man that Carlson and his cohort championed in public every day of his chaotic presidential term: “I hate him passionately.
After Trump lost his re-election bid, Carlson was far from distraught. Instead, in a text message, he celebrated: “We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights.” He despaired about the damage that had been done during Trump’s four years in power – “There really isn’t an upside to Trump” – and called the departing president “a demonic force.” He texted his producer to say that Trump was good at destroying things, adding, “He’s the undisputed world champion of that.”
Carlson disparaged the extreme legal theories of Trump’s lawyers who were pushing falsehoods about a stolen election and called Trump’s own bogus claims of a rigged vote “disgusting.” Yet, despite his true feelings, Carlson continued to help them pitch their Big Lie on his program.
Now, even with his duplicity revealed, Carlson is off on another cynical flight of fantasy, concocting a bogus alternative scenario about the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U. S. Capitol. We can assume he does not actually believe the attackers were just a bunch of respectful sightseers, any more than he believed the praise he gave Trump in his nightly screeds. He is just spinning the facts again to boost his career and his stock options.
True-believing media figures who buy into outlandish ideas and tout conspiracy theories to millions of gullible viewers are bad enough, but it is even more venal and corrupt for Carlson and other Fox commentators to broadcast incendiary claims while privately acknowledging they are simply marketing mendacity.

  4. Tucker Carlson ‘enraged’ private texts revealed; ‘I love Trump’ | The Hill

Tucker Carlson said he is angry that his private text messages about former President Trump to fellow network employees were made public as part of an ongoing defamation lawsuit facing the company.
“And I think this is in the text, and those were all grabbed completely illegitimately, in my opinion um in this court case, which I guess I’m not allowed to talk about, but I’m enraged that my private texts were pulled,” Carlson said Tuesday during an appearance on WABC Radio.
    […]
In one text exchange with a fellow Fox employee, Carlson said of Trump “I hate him passionately.”
“We are very very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights, I truly can’t wait,” Carlson wrote in a text to an unidentified Fox employee on Jan. 4, 2021, according to a recent court filing by Dominion.
However, Carlson sought to cast the president in a different light during the radio interview this week.
“Oh, let’s see. I spent four years defending his policies and I, I’m going to defend them again tonight,” Carlson said. “And actually, and I’m pretty straight forward, I’m um I love Trump. Like, as a person, I think Trump is funny and insightful.”
“And I said this to Trump when he called me, you know, all wounded about those texts,” he continued. “That was a moment in time where I was absolutely infuriated.”

  5. It is astonishing that Carlson is where he is.  He is a totally worthless human being and his work history is the evidence.

  6. A lot of warm gulf air in my world today, It was warmer at 6am than midnight. Also it can’t make up its mind if it is going to be sunny or cloudy, so far no rain but the day is not over. Great day for doing garden work and pulling the creeping charley that is trying to take over the beds.
Back to work and Donald who? you all really need to get another obsession. ;-0

  7. Keeping track of the other state and federal cases which are progressing at the same time.  This is wild.  I cannot remember any other important, or unimportant, person who is facing so many cases at the same time.  And they are across the country.  This is almost never spoken of other than a statement about how sfb is feeling bad. A normal person might crack and just offer to sit in jail to calm down. But, for someone who is out of his mind and a narcissist, he is planning is “perp walk”.  Give him a tiara.

Spent the last two hours making Gobalki.  Yum.  But as with everything else that is “home cooking”, “country cooking”, “comfort food”, it is not quick and easy.  No boxes of stuff.  The only canned items was the tomatoes for the sauce, which is the only way in March on the Chesapeake Bay to get tomatoes that taste like tomato.

Something else is that I am still fighting long COVID, but still getting better a few minutes each day.

  8. Ah cabbage rolls, Those are a bit like my mexican friends made tamales in that any of my Polish friends would only do them for family get togethers due to the tremendous work involved and you can’t make just 2.

  9. Bink – there is so much going on in the Sino-China mess.  They have fought in the past and at times used the Communist Party crap as a common joint.  That is where Soviet KGB agent puttie comes in.  He wants to recreate the Soviet Union, and has run into a major snag.  Many of the former parts of the SU are now in NATO or trying to be, along with no longer existing. He wants to be equal in power with Xi, but that would need a lot of blue pills to happen.  Xi, though is not quite what he wants to be.  There was a question of minor importance about his recent reelection happening, never in doubt though.

But, do the two have it to rule the world?  We know what happened to Hong Kong and Singapore.  Will PRC invade Taiwan?  Yeah, that is a good one.  Currently China is not playing nice with all of Southeast Asia.  There is a reason Vietnam has spent many years cosying up to the United States. My guess is that at some point PRC will do something to Taiwan with some response by the U.S.  Showdown?  Yup.  China cannot match the U.S. in power and knows it.  Taiwan is different now than what Hong Kong was when GB turned it over instead of staying in power.

This would be one great area to specialize in (if I was fifty years younger).  You have two dictators in power supported by toothpicks.  Puttie goes with killing off the opposition, Xi has his methods, I would like to know how his predecessor is doing.

  10. Yeah, in that it isolates China because you can’t make Russia look any weaker then they are. They are just lucky they don’t have any aggressive neighbors because their borders are basically undefended.
As to China if I was Putin I would be counting the silverware because China went home with something.
With Russia being so weak, that does give China an opportunity to expand in Asia. Who knows maybe China will decide to bring back the Mongol empire, basically from Poland to the Pacific. The rest of the century may get very interesting in central Asia.

I actually look for China to say never mind on Taiwan and to start thinking about greater Manchuria , how ever far west they define it. China is interested in locking up raw materials for their manufacturing sector and Siberia is just one big place waiting to be exploited.

  12. …with friends like those who have a habit of having people thrown out of windows, who needs enemies, eh?
