Jury, Thy name is Karma

A rich, fair-haired liar, violator of his former office of trust and possibly one who is responsible for the deaths of others awaits his fate as the wheels of Justice grind ever so slowly.
A panel of his peers will eventually decide what remains of life as he knows it.

Anti-Ukraine Republicans enable tyranny over democracy | The Seattle Times

Remarking on President Joe Biden’s historic surprise visit to Kyiv, here is what Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz had to say: “On President’s Day, I’m not surprised that Biden is ditching America for Ukraine.”
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene went further: “The President of the United States chose Ukraine over America, while forcing the American people to pay for Ukraine’s government and war. I cannot express how much Americans hate Joe Biden.”
I cannot express how loathsome I find these two MAGA Republicans and the rest of their ilk in Congress. In the biggest fight between freedom and tyranny in a generation, they are siding with the tyrant in the Kremlin.
Gaetz and Greene are co-sponsoring a bill in the U.S. House they have dubbed “The Ukraine Fatigue Act.” The measure seeks to end American support for the Ukrainians in their desperate war against Russian aggression. Were it to succeed, the pair would be responsible for condemning to political slavery millions of people who want nothing more than independence and a chance to unite their country’s destiny with Western democracies.
Fortunately, there are enough sane Republicans left in Congress that the bill has no chance of passing. Nevertheless, Gaetz, Greene and the so-called “America First” crowd will continue to use their megaphones in social media and Fox News to spew Russian propaganda and mislead a great many of their compatriots on the right. In this, they are exactly like the America First agitators in the 1930s who actively supported Nazi Germany and resisted President Franklin Roosevelt’s efforts to support the British people in their lonely fight against Adolph Hitler’s plan to conquer all of Europe.
Russian President Vladimir Putin may wear an expensive suit instead of a brown fascist uniform. He may not sport a silly mustache or scream his speeches into a microphone, but his blandness does not conceal his similarities to the Nazi dictator. And the loud claims of patriotism asserted by the clownish Greene and Gaetz do not hide the fact that they are sycophantic apologists for an enemy of America.

  2. The Department of Energy says Covid leaked from a Chinese lab, but other government agencies disagree. Elsewhere, America’s former president is enjoying his role as house DJ at Mar-a-Lago, and Mexico’s current president says mystical elves live among us.

  3. CNN:

Fox News continues to be exposed for the dishonest organization that it is — this time, with the help of its billionaire owner.
A Monday filing in Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion lawsuit against the right-wing talk channel offered additional revelations — including the fact that Fox Corporation chair Rupert Murdoch admitted in a deposition that some of his top hosts were pushing election lies to his audience.
Murdoch rejected that Fox News, as an entity, endorsed former President Donald Trump’s election lies. But Murdoch conceded that Sean Hannity, Jeanine Pirro, Maria Bartiromo, and former host Lou Dobbs promoted falsehoods about the 2020 presidential contest being stolen.
“Yes. They endorsed,” Murdoch said, according to the filing, when asked about the hosts’ promotion of false claims about the election.
“I would have liked us to be stronger in denouncing it, in hindsight,” the media mogul added at another point in the deposition.
That’s just one of the several revelations included in Monday’s filing. Here are some additional highlights:
► In the wake of the election, Murdoch wrote in an email to the New York Post’s Col Allan, describing election lies that Trump was pushing as “bulls**t and damaging.”
► Murdoch said it was “wrong” for Tucker Carlson to host conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell after the election. When asked why he continued to allow the MyPillow CEO to continue appearing on Fox News, Murdoch signaled it was a business decision. “It is not red or blue, it is green,” he said. That’s a shocking admission from Murdoch about what actually guides coverage at Fox News.
    […]
► Murdoch responded to one email from Ryan by telling him that Sean Hannity had “been privately disgusted by Trump for weeks, but was scared to lose viewers.” In other words, Hannity, who always claims to say the same things on camera as when he’s off camera, was not being up front with his loyal audience for fear they’d rebel against him.

  4. well, one could be he who lives in FL.  you’ve guessed who another one could be. who knows how many others fit the description. a lot of violators of their offices of trust out there nowadays.

  5. sturge, thanks for KO link.  he’s right about

“…the most startling of the second tranche of revelations from the Dominion Voting Systems defamation suit against Fox and NewsCorp – doesn’t just violate electoral and journalistic ethics. It may be criminal -“

  6. This murky and malodorous murdaugh murder mystery miasma has become the new OJ trial–at least around here.

  7. And Karma comes home to roost for Australian anti-American Rupert Murdoch. Should never have been given citizenship. He doesn’t give a crap about our country, except as a place to make billions with lies. Deport him!

  8. “the new OJ trial”

sturge, my thought exactly and also as in that case i don’t think the jury will find him guilty of murder – imo guilty of a whole lot of other stuff that he did to his clients and the harm addiction did to his family, but not killing his wife and son.

as for loser strump, he has a million covid deaths to answer for including insurrection, sedition, treason and conspiracy to commit a coup.

  9. patD – I think he knows more than he’s saying, though.  I think he knows who “they” are who did it and why, and maybe it was only supposed to be the wife and not the son. He’s guilty of something, but I’m not sure what.

Georgia: The quirky, attention-loving jury foreman was immortalized on SNL.  They had to do it; she’s a caricature of a human being seeking fame.

ps – Please read the last post on the OT last night if you use artificial sweeteners. Spoiler alert: blood clots and heart attacks.

  10. BiD, that was an interesting report.  i’d rather get my blood clots the natural way: lotsa butter on biscuits and lotsa dollops of whipped cream on sweet potato pies.

also find that preserved fruits taste better when canned with pear juice instead of whatever they put in that “heavy syrup” stuff. sweetners always seem to leave a bad aftertaste to things.

  11. BiD, yes, thanks so much for the report on sweeteners and clots. We are more mindful of such since hub’s by-pass.

  12. bink,

sorry to be late about this but a BIG THANK YOU for the link to zelenskyy’s “servant of the people” with english subtitles.  finally got around to watching and love it but it’s so sad to see Ukraine’s once beautiful scenery which now is only a shell of itself.

my bet is that an eng/american adaptation is already in the works at neflix for a new series here. wonder who they’ve picked for zelenskyy’s role. tom hanks and harrison ford are too old, but someone on that order maybe who might have dreams of being another ronald reagan.

  13. BiD
That dangerous sweetener was stevia, the “good natural” one.
So I’m safe I avoid anything natural I do serious man made chemicals.
I use the yellow stuff, I use to use the blue stuff but you can bake with the yellow stuff.
    Jack

  14. Jack – It’s the stuff they added to bulk up the monk fruit and stevia; it’s the copious amounts of erythritol.   Forewarned is forearmed.

    patD
    Zelensky = Pedro Pascal
    Blinken = Sam Rockwell
    Poo-tin = Lucifer

  15. https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/28/politics/student-loan-forgiveness-supreme-court-arguments-takeaways/index.html

“The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard oral arguments in two challenges to President Joe Biden’s student debt relief plan, with several conservative justices appearing skeptical of the government’s authority to discharge millions of dollars in federally held loans.”

But those same, conservative justices are certain of the government’s authority over a woman’s body.

    Pack the court, POTUS Joe.

Did a little research, it is what they call a sugar alcohol. Your body converts it to glucose. One of those things they use to say sugar free but for a diabetic not really. I kind of assumed that but hadn’t taken the time to research it. I wonder if the other sugar alcohols are a problem too? Some labeling they separate them out by name and some they lump them altogether under “sugar alcohol”.
BTW, thanks your link pushed me to do some research that I always planned when reading a label in the store but never remembered by the time I got home.

  17. “ …so sad to see Ukraine’s once beautiful scenery which now is only a shell of itself” -patd

…heartbreaking.  Putin did the same thing to Syria, which was once considered a paradise, until he shelled every square inch he could.

Glad you’re enjoying the show, thanks for all the effort you put in to keep the blog going 🫡

  18. There must be a mechanism for revoking Rupert’s citizenship. “Treason” may not be the right definition, but undermining American democracy has to be a betrayal of his sworn oath by some measure. I take my oaths seriously and I’ve sworn a few. Does swearing-in mean anything these days?

  19. I just saw a reminder about the television series MASH finale, a very long time ago.  Most of American people were not born then.  For me, due to things in the world, I did not see the last years of the series until the Nineties.  The importance of this is that when the series Mash started in 1972 and ended in the Eighties, America and world changed.  When a few of us went to see the movie Mash in the movie theaters many of our viewers were Vietnam vets.  A couple of them had just returned from the killing fields. Some of my friends did not watch the series. Some did because they were working through things.
But, when the final shots of Mash the television series were broadcast the world was changing.  Television was not three channels, but hundreds.  We could watch channels with sex and more.  We could watch fashion channel, DYI channel and so many more.

What happened was technology beat through regulations.  What was happening was way beyond regulations of the Forties, Fifties, Sixties and Seventies.  things were happening that were not even dreamed of when towns, cities, subdivisions and even the world, were being created.

But, sometimes there were people not looking out for a dollar and they helped get technology to the home.

  20. Giving up on the tax prep tonight.  It’s the damned ACA forms, since I stopped getting healthcare through my employer last fall.   I’ve never seen such a convoluted way to arrive at a number/numbers/which numbers???  I’m tired of swearing and crying.  If it looks as bad as I think, I’ll be dropping it and flying free without healthcare come April. What a racket. It doesn’t even cover the normal labs on a yearly physical, so I have a list of what can and can’t be checked. Ridiculous. Rip off. Racket.

  21. BB – SNL did a sketch about the diversity of entertainment channels these days, about two weeks ago.  Nobody on the pretend game show had any idea what new shows where about, nor the young actors.  Folks have different streaming services, but usually not all.  Bits and pieces are picked up as trailers for free on YouTube or somewhere.

Everyone watched the Mash finale.  Yes, there were more than three networks and PBS, but not everyone had cable.  Those who did may not have had any of the few premium channels.  Maybe having collective experiences makes for a closer society, even if it’s just everyone watching a TV show one night.

  22. Jack, Adkins was a heavy erythritol user – it’s in all their snacks. It even got a mild thumbs up from Cleveland Clinic in 2021. Sweet but didn’t spike blood sugar levels. Supposedly supported weight loss and blood sugar regulation for diabetics. Then came the study. The study had a measurement level of 30 grams- 15 teaspoons- 1/3 cup. That’s a lotta erythritol. For the past 15 years we’ve used Truvia – white or brown depending. But being a cautious sort I’ll go back to sugar for baking and risk ridicule from sugar busters but will move back to maple syrup in my coffee when I want a treat. I just love that.

“Finland has begun construction of barrier fences on its eastern border with Russia.”

“Work on the terrain begins on 28 February 2023 with forest clearance and will proceed in such a way that road construction and fence installation can be started in March, followed by the construction of a technical surveillance system. The pilot is expected to be completed by the end of June,” it added.

“Iran’s nuclear progress since” the Trump administration withdrew the United States from the 2015 nuclear deal “has been remarkable.”

“Iran could now produce “one bomb’s worth of fissile material” in “about 12 days,” a top US Defense Department official said Tuesday.

“Biden administration officials have for months said that Iran’s breakout time – the amount of time it would need to produce enough weapons-grade material for one nuclear bomb – had dwindled to a matter of weeks. The breakout time does not mean that Iran could produce an actual bomb in that amount of time.”

“We are concerned that Moscow may be advising Tehran on best practices, drawing on Russia’s extensive experience of suppressing open demonstrations,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing on Wednesday. “The evidence that Iran is helping Russia rage its war against Ukraine is clear and it is public. And Iran and Russia are growing closer the more isolated they become. Our message to Iran is very, very clear – stop killing your people and stop sending weapons to Russia to help kill Ukrainians.”

“Good news everyone! We don’t have to worry about Kevin McCarthy turning over 44,000 hours of January 6 Video to Tucker Carlson. Because Tucker has promised Kevin that he won’t use any of the sensitive stuff that could get congressmen or senators or Vice Presidents killed next time. And we know how we can trust Tucker Carlson! Just look at all those Carlson texts from the Dominion defamation suit! His word is the coin of the realm. Provided the realm in question is Russia.
Perhaps never before in American history has there been such a pairing of Political Scum with Media Scum as McCarthy and Carlson. And McCarthy’s response to the criticism of his unprecedented and indefensible act: “It almost seems like the press is jealous…He’ll have an exclusive. Then I’ll give it out to the entire country.” And McCarthy’s henchman in this sleazy nightmare turns out to be Barry Loudermilk, the Georgia Congressman caught ON the January 5-6 video giving at least one January 6th defendant a tour of security checkpoints.”
