Sinema announces deal with Schumer on taxes and climate | The Hill

“We have agreed to remove the carried interest tax provision, protect advanced manufacturing, and boost our clean energy economy in the Senate’s budget reconciliation legislation,” Sinema said, signaling that she plans to vote to begin debate on the bill.

“Subject to the parliamentarian’s review, I’ll move forward,” she said.

“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad." "How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

  1. Democrats secure breakthrough with Kyrsten Sinema on climate bill | US news | The Guardian

Senate Democratic leaders say they have reached an agreement on the party’s major climate and economic bill with Kyrsten Sinema – the centrist Democrat whose opposition remained a major hurdle to passing the most ambitious US climate legislation yet.
    […]
Schumer has said he hopes the Senate can begin voting on the bill – known as the Inflation Reduction Act – on Saturday. Passage by the House, which Democrats control narrowly, could come next week.
Final congressional approval of the election-year measure would be a marquee achievement for Joe Biden and his party, notching an accomplishment they could tout to voters as November approaches.

  2. IMO, Manchin & Synema have a good cop/bad cop deal.   He said he was on board, knowing exactly what she would do.  It looks like a put up job.

  3. Midterms is the only cure.

    Ok, “are”.

    No, “is”.

    COULD be “are” I guess.

Dick Cheney calls Trump “coward” in campaign ad for Liz Cheney (axios.com)

“In our nation’s 246 year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Dick Cheney said in the ad.
“He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He is a coward,” Cheney continued.
“A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election and he lost big. I know it, he knows it, and deep down, I think most Republicans know it.”
“Liz is fearless. … There is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never again near the Oval Office and she will succeed,” Cheney said, adding that he proudly voted for his daughter.

    *according to gr14philophy:

Immanuel Kant was a Philosopher who lived quite a long time ago (1724-1804 to be exact) and he basically argued that we all have a duty to act morally. This means, we should all try to do the right thing at all times – because it is the right thing to do.

  6. https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/05/politics/victoria-spartz-ukraine-republican-reaction/index.html

“In the nearly six months since the war began, Spartz has publicly criticized the Ukraine government, peddled corruption allegations against the Ukrainian government and some of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s top aides, and spurred complaints from her colleagues that she is mirroring pro-Russia talking points.”

It sure sounds like Pootin has a turd on the inside. Mole-y, mole-y, mole-y!

And then there is my favorite philosopher David Hume

Attention to Hume’s philosophical works grew after the German philosopher Immanuel Kant, in hisProlegomena to Any Future Metaphysics(1783), credited Hume with awakening him from his “dogmatic slumber.”

Hume also heavily influenced his best friend, Adam Smith.  The end result of all this is that the so called “capitalists” conveniently forget that Capitalism without ethics carries the seeds of its own destruction or in other words:  Greed IS NOT good.

  8. Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney said if the Justice Department does not prosecute former President Donald Trump for his role in the insurrection at the US Capitol and “the facts and the evidence are there,” the decision could call into question whether the United States can “call ourselves a nation of laws.” In an interview with CNN’s Kasie Hunt, Cheney — the GOP vice chair of the House select committee investigating the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, insurrection — said Trump is “guilty of the most serious dereliction of duty of any president in our nation’s history” and pointed to a judge who’s said he likely committed crimes. She said the House committee is “going to continue to follow the facts. I think Department of Justice will do that. But they have to make decisions about prosecution.”

The state energy company EDF has had to reduce output at some nuclear power plants, as river temperatures are too high to provide sufficient cooling, AFP news agency reports.
