   Cheney recalled how, in the build up to Jan. 6., then-President Donald Trump sought to clean House at the Justice Department, which was refusing to help him advance his Big Lie that he’d been deprived of a rightful election victory by fraud and voting irregularities. (Cheney laid out a significant slate of evidence that not only was this a lie, but that Trump and his staff knew that it was a lie.)
   As part of the effort to gain compliance from the Justice Department, Trump wanted to install a yes-man, Jeffrey Clark, as Acting Attorney General, in place of Jeffrey Rosen, who refused to meddle in the election results.
   That gambit ultimately did not succeed. And Cheney, in her opening remarks, noted that Clark refused to testify before the committee, invoking his 5th amendment protections.
   Cheney then alleged that a notable GOP lawmaker had similarly rebuffed the committee about his actions to support the house clearing at DOJ: “Rep. Scott Perry, who was also involved in trying to get Clark appointed as Attorney General,” Cheney said, “has refused to testify here.”
   Cheney then dropped a bombshell, suggesting consciousness of guilt — not just by Perry but by other GOP representatives:
   “As you will see, Rep. Perry contacted the White House in the weeks after Jan 6. to seek a presidential pardon,” she said. Cheney then added: “Multiple other Republican congressmen also sought presidential pardons for their roles in attempting to overturn the 2020 election.”

    “It must be remembered that all agree that the disputed ballots were received before the 8:00 p.m. deadline on Election Day,” Judge Theodore McKee wrote. “It must also be remembered that ballots that were received with an erroneous date were counted.”
    That was a “nail in the coffin,” McKee wrote. “If the substance of the string of numbers does not matter, then it is hard to understand how one could claim that this requirement has any use in determining a voter’s qualifications.”
    The Supreme Court’s majority did not explain its reasoning for allowing the 3rd Circuit’s decision to go into effect, as is common in emergency orders.

    Within minutes of the start of the primetime hearing, which all but one of the major broadcast networks aired live, Rep. Bennie Thompson, Democrat of Mississippi and the committee’s chairman, aired the first footage from a former Trump White House official explaining under oath that they had informed the president that his claims of widespread voter fraud were false.

    “I made it clear I did not agree with the idea of saying the election was stolen and putting out this stuff, which I told the president was bullshit,” former Attorney General William Barr told committee investigators in taped testimony, referring to a December 2020 meeting with Trump. “And I didn’t want to be a part of it.”

    The committee later showed footage from a deposition with the president’s own daughter and special adviser, Ivanka Trump, who was present for that meeting and told the committee she took Barr’s comments seriously. “It affected my perspective,” she said. “I respect Attorney General Barr, so I accepted what he was saying.”

    The revelations were among the most explosive and significant of the evening. Legal experts and former prosecutors have said that any evidence that Trump was informed that he was spreading a lie to prevent Congress from certifying Biden’s election victory could implicate him on charges of intent to defraud. “It’s really important if you can prove he knew he lost, that helps bolster claims of corrupt intent and fraudulent intent,” Barbara McQuade, a former U.S. attorney and now a law professor at the University of Michigan, told TIME in April.

    Other testimony from former administration officials demonstrated how Trump and his closest confidants were actively looking for ways to subvert the election outcome. Alex Cannon, Trump’s top campaign lawyer, recalled a December 2020 conversation with the president’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows, who asked what they had dug up to challenge the election results of decisive swing states. “We weren’t finding anything that was sufficient to change the results in key states,” Cannon said he told Meadows. “So there’s no there there?” Meadows replied, according to Cannon.

    The committee also sought to provide evidence that Trump did not take action to stop the Capitol attack as it was unfolding, even expressing approval as the mayhem ensued. The crowd in the Cannon House Office Building hearing room collectively gasped when Rep. Liz Cheney, Republican from Wyoming and vice chair of the panel, shared testimony from inside the White House over what Trump told his staff after the mob started chants to hang Vice President Mike Pence. “Maybe our supporters have the right idea,” he said. “Mike Pence deserves it.”

    A government memo about the events leading up to Jan. 6, statements from Pelosi’s office and the Pentagon and testimony from the former House sergeant-at-arms show Trump did not request 10,000 troops ahead of the rally.

    Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s spokesperson, told USA TODAY that Pelosi’s office was not consulted or contacted regarding any request for the National Guard ahead of Jan. 6, and he noted the speaker of the House does not have the power to reject that type of request. 

    Claims that Pelosi was in charge of Capitol security on Jan. 6 have been previously debunked by USA TODAY.  The Capitol Police are overseen by the Capitol Police Board and committees from the Senate and House of Representatives. 

    No request, no offer, no consultation, no rejection.

    When Rich Strike bolted into horse racing’s spotlight in a little over two minutes with his upset Kentucky Derby victory, he shared the stage with his handler, who has long toiled in the shadows constantly tending to the champion colt.

    Rich Strike’s attention stems from winning as a nearly 81-1 long shot, but groom Jerry Dixon Jr.’s newfound recognition comes from being one of few Black horsemen left in the sport once dominated by people who look like him.

    “I totally understand it because I was looking at something about the Derby and I saw how there were Blacks in the beginning,” said Dixon, 31 and a fourth-generation horseman who works with his father — trainer Jerry Sr. — for Eric Reed, who trains Rich Strike.

    “And then years afterward, you can see the change, like we were slowly fading away.”

    A lack of diversity is one of the biggest obstacles to growth in horse racing, along with inconsistent safety and medication standards. The government stepped in to address safety and doping concerns, but there is no national program to increase diversity — by gender or race — in the industry.

    That wasn’t always the case for African Americans, who were a key part of early Derby history and thoroughbred racing.

    Black jockeys won 15 of the first 28 Derbies from 1875-1902. Isaac Murphy had three victories, and Willie Simms and Jimmy Winkfield each won twice. Black people also owned and trained thoroughbreds through the early 20th century before segregation and Jim Crow laws in the South pushed many away from horse racing by restricting jockey licensing and ownership.

    Jack made a comment a few days  back about  seeing the work over rigs in Kansas . When the plague  hit they stacked   the rigs, and turned off the pump jacks.  And most of all they stacked all the hands. 
    Oil wells are not light blubs,  you don’t just turn them off one day , and then turn them back on 18 months later.  All that heavy stuff  in the pool “gels-up”, if you ain’t pumping everyday.  
    I am speaking about the independents pumping 15 or 30 barrels a day out of a hole. 
     
    But there’s one thing about this Oil Shock that smells ,  the prices keep rising , but there are no card board signs on the pumps that say –
    “OUT OF GAS” yet.

    The total of nearly 20 million is smaller than other large prime-time political events like President Biden’sState of the Union Address in March, which pulled in 38 million viewers, but is much larger than the audience for a typical congressional hearing. 

    A reported 9 million people watched former President Trump’s impeachment trial in 2020 on a typical day during those proceedings on Capitol Hill. 

    Get that? over twice as many folks watched the hearing as watched TFG’s impeachment trial in 2020 and MSNBC alone pulled in 33% more viewers that Fox in the meat o fit’s prime time lineup of T(f)ucker, Hannity and Ingraham.  I doubt next week’s will draw that may viewers, but time will tell, won’t it?
