  1. shortage schmortage!!!

supply chain solution is right in front of you:  your own two hands

or the little mom & pop store down the street

    imagination is the key

it would also help by wanting less and enjoying or getting more out of that less

  2. wanting less reminds me of the dalai lama’s lessons that desire causes unhappiness and limiting desire is a wise path to take toward your own sense of happiness and well-being.

“Our ultimate aim in seeking more wealth is a sense of satisfaction, of happiness.  But the very basis of seeking more is a feeling of not having enough, a feeling of discontentment.  That feeling of discontentment, of wanting more and more and more, doesn’t arise from the inherent desirability of the objects we are seeking but rather from our own mental state.”

here’s john oliver four years ago about and with the man himself.

Tibetan Buddhists have suffered deep persecution by the Chinese government. John Oliver sits down with the Dalai Lama to discuss China, the conditions in Tibet, and horse milk.

  3. in the meantime, there’s work to be done in DC

This week: Congress starts year-end legislative sprint | TheHill

Lawmakers are returning to Washington, D.C., this week for a chaotic final stretch of the year as they face a pile up that could drag into the holidays.
The Senate is returning on Monday from the week-long Thanksgiving break, while the House will have its first votes for the week on Tuesday.
Both chambers have less than 10 scheduled working days before they are supposed to leave town on Dec. 13 through the end of the year — a timeline they are all but guaranteed to blow through as they face a packed to-do list despite the shrinking legislative schedule.
    Government funding
Lawmakers have until the end of the week to figure out a way to fund the government and avoid a shutdown that would otherwise start on Saturday, Dec. 4.

    Defense bill
The Senate is hoping to wrap up a massive defense policy bill, known as the National Defense Authorization Act, this week.
Senators left town before the Thanksgiving recess after they failed to get a deal for votes on 18 amendments to the sweeping bill, including votes on whether or not to require women to register for the selective service and repealing the 2002 Iraq War authorization.

    Build Back Better bill
Biden’s spending bill is shifting to the Senate after House Democrats passed the climate and social spending package shortly before the Thanksgiving break.
Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) hasn’t yet said when he will bring the bill to the floor, though Democrats want to get it to Biden’s desk by the end of the year.

  4. I have guarded optimism that the Senate can whittle BBB down to something the House can agree to.

NDAA – it’ll get voted on and will pass, without requiring women to register and maybe repealing the AUMFI.

Watched Charlie Brown Christmas last night w/ LP & Mrs. P.  One more holiday tradition checked off the list.

  5. When one of these sensitive court cases is won, I wish there were some way they could refrain from all the after-verdict ballyhoo and blather on the courthouse steps.

    It doesn’t help.

  6. Just saw on the CNN crawl that the far right is calling omicron a Dem plot. Stupidity apparently knows no bounds.

  7. So, you’re saying that only texting my relatives on Thanksgiving should now carry on to more holidays, lest they wish me a Merry Wokeness and an Omicron New Year.

  8. Patd

Thank you for the NKC.  I’ve been a major fan since my childhood watching his show on TV.  This time of year you hear his rendition of The Christmas Song.  For that one I turn into The Night Court when the only acceptable version is by its composer, Mel Torme.

    WYNNER
    by Mel Tormé
A gripping tale of sho-biz fame and fortune in Hollywood or some place mighty like it.

  10. McConaughey prolly didn’t want to take the pay cut for 4 years if he pulled a Drumpf and won.

And this would be worth listening to if you’ve got WaPo access.

    Stevie Van Zandt’s ‘Unrequited Infatuations’

From touring the world with Bruce Springsteen to serving as Tony Soprano’s right-hand man, Stevie Van Zandt discusses his 50 years in the entertainment industry in a new memoir: “Unrequited Infatuations.”

I’ve listened to his Underground Garage show on Sirius and caught a few interviews on the tube, and Stevie’s an engaging sort and nobody’s dummy.

  11. Hey Pogo…
Rick and I watched the Auburn vs Alabama game Saturday.  WOW… what.a game!
    Glad your Crimson Tide won!

  12. What a holiday week.  Nailed with a stomach/intestinal bug, so no turkey and several real rotten days.  That is survivable, just a few days of bitching in my journal.  My cousin died yesterday of COVID.  Just plain terrible. They were not wealthy and have set up one of the funding sites to pay for the funeral.  Sigh.  Another plead to get the shots, do not end up dying before your mother does.

  13. The Beatles documentary was so long, my Disney Plus subscription expired half-way through it
