  1. Biden prepares to confront Putin | TheHill

White House allies say that Biden will go into the meeting with open eyes and well-prepared to confront Putin over Russia’s aggressive conduct and to lay out consequences for further provocations.
The Wednesday meeting is expected to be frosty, and the White House has set expectations low, saying Biden’s goal is to put the U.S. on a path to a more predictable relationship with Moscow.

“We are not looking for conflict. We are looking to resolve those actions which we think are inconsistent with international norms, number one,” Biden told reporters Sunday at a press conference following a Group of Seven (G-7) summit in the U.K. “Number two, where we can work together, we may be able to do that in terms of some strategic doctrine that may be able to be worked together, we’re ready to do it.”

  2. btw, please read “put” NOT “putt” in thread title’s “putting”

however possible the latter may turn out to be

Israel’s new government gets to work after Netanyahu ouster – ABC News

JERUSALEM — For the first time in 12 years, Israelis on Monday woke up to a new government and a new prime minister, after Naftali Bennett secured the backing of parliament and ousted longtime leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
The two were slated to hold a handover meeting later in the day, but without the formal ceremony that traditionally accompanies a change in government.
    […]
Under a coalition agreement, Bennett will hold office of the premier for the first two years of the term, and then Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, the architect of the coalition, will become prime minister.
The new government was sworn in late on Sunday and set to work Monday morning, with ministers announcing appointments of new ministry directors. Outgoing President Reuven Rivlin, who finishes his term in office next month, hosted Bennett, Lapid and the rest of the Cabinet at his official residence in Jerusalem for the official photo of the new government. Bennett and Lapid declined to comments to the press.

earlier this month this change also was announced according to CNBCnews:

JERUSALEM, Israel – The Israeli parliament chose veteran politician Isaac Herzog to be the country’s next president on Wednesday, setting him up to replace President Reuven Rivlin next month.
Herzog won 87 out of 120 Knesset votes, defeating social activist Miriam Peretz. As the country’s 11th president, he will serve a single seven-year term beginning on July 9.
Herzog currently serves as head of the Jewish Agency, an Israeli non-profit that helps Jews around the world immigrate to Israel. He is also the former head of Israel’s Labor Party and ran an unsuccessful campaign against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2013.

  5. We are living in fascinating times.  I never thought Israel would toss out Bibi.  We will see how the power sharing goes, hope it will surprise.

  6. The whole co-heads is part of the problem, IMO.  Remember The Federalist Papers, regarding the energy of office. It’s like buying a car and being told, that sounds good but let me go talk to my manager.   Responsibility and blame get pushed around.   I’m glad Bibi is gone, though.

  7. Bye Bye Bibi but buddy bags base.

The new PM is an arch right wing who doesn’t believe in a self governing Palestine or the two state solution.  It could be a rocky ride.

  8. Putin is a disingenuous POS.  I listened to clips of the Keir Simmons interview with him and there is no such thing as a straight answer to a direct question that will ever come out of his mouth.  Of course a couple of questions Kier asked were easily batted aside by Putin – such as the threat of China building a 4th aircraft carrier – Putin’s answer – we are strategic partners and have a friendly relationship so the aircraft carrier is not seen as a threat, and if China nd Russia did come to blows, aircraft from a Chinese carrier wouldn’t be very useful in a ground war, which is what such a conflict would be.  Joe’s lever IMHO is combined economic pressure from the US and Europe.

  9. Not sure I see the point, either, but I don’t set the President’s calendar for meetings with foreign adversaries.  Watching the talking heads there are obviously 2 schools of thought on the issue.

  10. I think the point of the meeting is to make Joe look like he won’t take any of Putty’s shit.
After all….  we are still supposedly allies and talking is good, IMO, if it’s the right message.

  11. lincoln project today

On [the former guy]‘s birthday let’s remember all of the people who didn’t get to see their’s this year.

  12. Vlad is KGB, which translates to POS in English.

Craig – Who would fill the vacuum?

  13. The views expressed by the host are not necessarily those held by the contributors

  14. Maybe the Saudi’s would kill him.   They are good at that sort of thing

  15. bink, those views might not necessarily be held by the host either but somehow got lost in translation.

     sarcasm walks a thin line.

note to fbi, nsa, cia et alia:  there’s nothing to see here so please don’t waste valuable taxpayer dollars on us.

  16. Statement from Attorney General Merrick B. Garland | OPA | Department of Justice

“As I stated during my confirmation hearing, political or other improper considerations must play no role in any investigative or prosecutorial decisions. These principles that have long been held as sacrosanct by the DOJ career workforce will be vigorously guarded on my watch, and any failure to live up to them will be met with strict accountability. There are important questions that must be resolved in connection with an effort by the department to obtain records related to Members of Congress and Congressional staff. I have accordingly directed that the matter be referred to the Inspector General and have full confidence that he will conduct a thorough and independent investigation. If at any time as the investigation proceeds action related to the matter in question is warranted, I will not hesitate to move swiftly.

“In addition, and while that review is pending, I have instructed the Deputy Attorney General, who is already working on surfacing potentially problematic matters deserving high level review, to evaluate and strengthen the department’s existing policies and procedures for obtaining records of the Legislative branch. Consistent with our commitment to the rule of law, we must ensure that full weight is accorded to separation-of-powers concerns moving forward.”

  17. Bink…  I’m with you.  And BiD… I’m with you too…  my guess as to who would fill the vacuum would be another former KGB man.

And once the killing started… where would it end?  How many tit for tats would have to be taken?  How many Americans?  Actions always have consequences…  and not always what one would expect.

  18. I received a mailing last week from Michigan Senator Roger Victory. In it, he said that he had received a lot of complaints about the integrity of the 2020 elections. He plans to introduce a bill to look into the results of the 2020 election. They never stop.

  19. What do you guys think of a possible prison or swap?   Maybe Americans shouldn’t go to Rusher for work or play once things open up.  Maybe the US should also prohibit Rushunz from coming here just to have babies at tRumpsky’s properties or anywhere else.

For a swap, in addition to releasing Americans, I think Vlad would need to agree to release Navalny, as well…which he would never do.  Vlad is a schoolyard bully and he’s afraid of Navalny’s popularity.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2021/06/14/vladimir-putin-refuses-guarantee-alexei-navalnys-safety-prison/7682827002/

“Asked if he could guarantee Navanly would leave prison alive, Putin claimed he had no say over the matter.”Look, such decisions in this country are not made by the president,” Putin said.“

  22. ERCOT just sent a message to Texans to raise their thermostats.    Here we go.

  23. So Boris Johnson called Biden like a breath of fresh air (as opposed to the fart in an elevator that was Donald Fucking Drumpf).
