Listen Up, Georgia

Remember the scene that won Jason Robards the Oscar: “Nothing’s riding on this except the First Amendment to the Constitution, freedom of the press and maybe the future of the country. Not that any of that matters, but if you guys fuck up again, I’m going to get mad. Good night.” (All The President’s Men)

  1. another current event a lot of D’umpsters need to worry about:  rudy, like sherman & the devil, feverishly burns down GA.

     ABCnews:

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump says his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani has tested positive for the coronavirus, ….
Giuliani was exhibiting some symptoms and was admitted Sunday to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to speak publicly.
    […]
Giuliani attended a hearing at the Georgia Capitol on Thursday where he went without a mask for several hours. Several state senators, all Republicans, also did not wear masks at the hearing.
    […]
Research shows that people who contract the virus may become infectious to others several days before they start to feel ill.
Georgia state Sen. Jen Jordan, a Democrat who attended Thursday’s hearing, expressed outrage after learning of Giuliani’s diagnosis.
“Little did I know that most credible death threat that I encountered last week was Trump’s own lawyer,” Jordan tweeted. “Giuliani — maskless, in packed hearing room for 7 hours. To say I am livid would be too kind.”

  2. The Devil went down to Georgia
He was lookin’ for a soul to steal
He was in a bind ’cause he was way behind
And he was willin’ to make a deal.

and last week the devil came back in the form of donald and rudy

  3. forbes:

Despite nominally traveling to Georgia to campaign on behalf of Sens. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) and David Perdue (R-Ga.), President Trump made himself the focus at his rally on Saturday as the Republican senators struggled to gain the support or attention of the crowd.
The most notable example of this came when Perdue attempted to praise Trump, telling him “god bless you, we love you Mr. President,” but failed to quiet chants of “fight for Trump” from the crowd – while Loeffler was met with chants of “stop the steal!”
Though Trump didn’t criticize Perdue and Loeffler, some of his most ardent supporters have accused them of failing to adequately support Trump’s unfounded claims that widespread fraud cost him his reelection, with some even calling to boycott the runoff.
When Trump did praise Loeffler and Perdue, it often rang hollow or focused on their support for him, such as admitting that although he was at first wary of Loeffler – who was appointed over his objections – “there was nobody who fought harder for me.”
Trump focused the bulk of his remarks airing his grievances about his election, falsely claiming victory (and occasionally slipping up and admitting defeat) and ranting about figures unrelated to the runoff like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke.
Trump also complained that he doesn’t like holding rallies for candidates aside from himself, telling supporters, “I don’t like doing them for other people” because “it’s a lot of work.”

  4. The after effects of rudie running around the country trying to get a coup started is the Arizona legislature is in quarantine.  The “hoax” keeps attacking regardless of party affiliation.

  5. I watched part of trumpity’s rally in Georgia.  It’s too bad his maga’s don’t have fervor like that for something constructive.  It seems like they NEED a cause. A patriotic one would be useful.. They remind me of my younger son when he was 10 or 123 and had just seen Braveheart.  He said he wanted to go out and save something.

  6. Sturg, to your last comment on the prior thread, I would not put it past the orange clown to fake Covid so he could fake being a super survivor. Also along those lines I wish Rudee a quick and complete recovery… ok, I don’t.

  7. The clips from Dumbass’ Valdosta super spreader event show one, one lady with a scarf wrapped around her nose & mouth, and aside from her, not a mask to be seen in the crowd behind him. How stupid are these people?  (Rhetorical question, btw)

  8. I watched part of Kelly Loeffler’s debate.  She looked like a rich bitch. she looked like a robot, an automaton , an avatar. She didn’t move.  Her well kept, blond hair didn’t move. Her lips moved & all that came out of her mouth was “radical liberal” and a few other company lines.  Does she have a brain?  Does she think? That’s what dictators want. A mindless, thoughtless robot. And the magas need a cause.

  9. Morning after thoughts on Loeffler – Warnock debate: Maybe it was wise for him not to take her bait, let her smears slide over him. They knew it was coming so it must have been a conscious decision. She was clearly coached to try and turn him into the angry black man. While unsatisfying to those of us who wanted him to just punch her robot face, it might have been a smart and disciplined move.

  10. Craig, you’re probably right about  Warnock .  I couldn’t have done that. He answered a question.  And she said all kinds of other stuff that he  didn’t say.  I would have pointed that out. “Did I JUST say that?”  And I would have pointed out her thoughtless, company lines.

Now trumpity wants Georgia to over turn the election.  To their strength, Georgia is saying no, and they’re not a third world country.

  11. sturge & pogo, he had to have had it.  too many of those that came down with full-blown covid were in close quarters to D’ump for hours at a time (to say nothing of kissing nether parts of him) within the infectious stage timeframe.  perhaps his was not as serious a case and there was some other med emergency.  the word “super” is applicable, however, he was  NOT  a super man for recovering (with the aid of extraordinary meds) but a super spreader and a super negligent homicidal maniac to boot.

  12. the talking heads are full of Barr planning to resign news.  bet this motivates D’ump to fire him first to get headlines. then for more limelight and buzz to put rudy in as  AttyGen.  mischief proceeds for the remaining 44 days.

bright side for D’ump: provides his buddy a cabinet post he wanted  and rudy’s salary paid by taxpayers instead of having to use any of his grift money from the feckless magats.

  13. NYTimes:

WASHINGTON — Attorney General William P. Barr is considering stepping down before President Trump’s term ends next month, according to three people familiar with this thinking. One said Mr. Barr could announce his departure before the end of the year.

  14. looks like i’m not the only one who thought of it

‘Acting-AG Rudy Giuliani?’: Americans speculate if Bill Barr will be fired after declaring no 2020 election fraud

  15. Things learned while on break.  Another federal judge tosses stupid out of court.  She basically told them to take their idiocy and get out of the court.  Michigan dodges another rat fart.

Some Georgia citizens fail to understand they are on  the east coast and have Atlantic Ocean ports.  They don’t want to some East Coast types coming to their state to vote.  But, they might like the idiot from Florida who moved there to vote (a felony).

  16. also in the wind according to axios:

President Trump is considering a made-for-TV grand finale: a White House departure on Marine One and final Air Force One flight to Florida for a political rally opposite Joe Biden’s inauguration, sources familiar with the discussions tell Axios.
Why it matters: The former network star is privately discussing using his waning powers as commander in chief to order up the exit he wants after dissing Biden by refusing to concede the election, welcome him to the White House or commit to attending his inauguration.
The big picture: The Trump talk could create a split-screen moment: the outgoing president addressing a roaring crowd in an airport hangar while the incoming leader is sworn in before a socially distanced audience outside the Capitol, as NBC News first reported.
Immediately announcing he is running for re-election in 2024 would set up four years of Trump playing Biden’s critic-in-chief.
The visual also would embody the vast difference in the two leaders’ approaches to the pandemic. And flying off from the South Lawn before landing in Florida would let Trump escape protests, the normal pleasantries of welcoming the incoming president to the White House — and sitting there while Biden takes the oath of office.

  17. Biden may have to wait extra time before entering Trump’s disease-ridden White House next month https://t.co/FDuPqIATmE

Might be a good time to completely renovate White House top to bottom, which hasn’t been done since Truman and WH architects have long recommended. Its actually falling apart.

  18. Craig…  renovating the WH wouldn’t be very good optics amid a pandemic with lots of people being jobless and maybe getting evicted from their homes.

  19. So the folks from the restoration company couldn’t say how long it takes to sanitize the place?  Isn’t the square footage of the place known and wouldn’t that determine how long the laborious process should take?  Just saying…

  20. Very true RR, just saying the building is in horrible condition, has been for a while, because recent presidents havent been willing to take the PR hit you point out

  21. Here’s a look at Truman’s gutting of WH, might be what’s needed to remove Trump stench, extent of renovation was kept secret, this pic classified for decades.

  22. I’s call that a true gut job.  So where’d Harry live while the white house was under reconstruction and how long did the recon take?

  23. tRMPsky and staff will probably lick all of the doorknobs in the way out of the WH.  You, know, those they don’t steal.

  24. So the Wapo Covid site notes that 281,000 are now dead.  At the present rate (2169 deaths per day) we are about 9 days from hitting 300,000.  And Wapo also notes that millions of people are going into the holiday

Millions of Americans who lost their jobs during the pandemic have fallen thousands of dollars behind on rent and utility bills, a warning sign that people are running out of money for basic needs.

Nearly 12 million renters will owe an average of $5,850 in back rent and utilities by January, Moody’s Analytics warns. Last month 9 million renters said they were behind on rent, according to a Census Bureau survey.

The numbers were especially high for families with children, with 21 percent falling behind on rent, and among families of color. About 29 percent of Black families and 17 percent of Hispanic renters were behind, the Census Bureau reported. A separate analysis by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, looking at people who had jobs before the pandemic, found 1.3 million such households are now an average of $5,400 in debt on rent and utilities, after those people had lost jobs and their family’s income plunged.

Economists say these data points show the failure of the U.S. safety net during this crisis, which is inflicting economic pain that will hurt families for years.

(…) [And Republicans couldn’t care less]

So far, however, Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress remain far apart on a stimulus deal, which they have been debating since July. A bipartisan compromise unveiled last week includes $25 billion for rental housing assistance, but a package released by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) did not include any money for housing or utilities. The House Democrats’ Heroes Act includes $50 billion specifically for low-income renters.

Merry Christmas from the Trump administration and their congressional enablers.

  25. So Colonel Sanders was friskier than he let on?  I’m going to have a hard time wrapping my brain around that one.  Let us know how it turns out, Poobah.

  26. A great jazz institution in Denver is closing, el Chapultepec.  No income to keep paying anyone and the Gofundme raised just over one thousand dollars.  Spent a lot of time there in the seventies and eighties.  Great jazz and Mexican cuisine.

  27. Here it is:

    2/3 tablespoon salt

    1/2 tablespoon thyme

    1/2 tablespoon basil

    1/3 tablespoon oregano

    1 tablespoon celery salt

    1 tablespoon black pepper

    1 tablespoon dried mustard

    4 tablespoons paprika

    2 tablespoons garlic salt

    1 tablespoon ground ginger

    3 tablespoons white pepper

And a pinch of Accent/MSG (not in the original recipe, KFC added this in later years)

  28. Gee…. haven’t had KFC in like 4-5  years.  There was one close to where my parents lived…  about a 25 minute drive.  Gonna have to go get a bucket there soon…  cuz now I’m craving the damn stuff!

  29. pogo, harry lived across the street at blair house for four years while WH was being renovated.  it was there where attempted assassination  happened.

  30. Yeah, so many days that live in infamy are so easy to forget.

Blair house – sure, why not?  I suspect Joe and the good doctor Jill could be very comfortable there.  Of course Bibi might be pissed that the president is cheeky enough to take his room in DC – I guess he’ll have to stay at Trumpland up the road.

  31. Getting rid of the COVID bugs and the Rushun bugs in the WH might take awhile.  Considering what’s been going on at the Pentagon, they might want to sweep that for Rushun bugs, too. Mole-y, mole-y, mole-y.

  32. WWII and Korea have slipped behind us now.  I knew a couple of sailors who survived Pearl Harbor, but they are long gone now.  Those of us who served during the Vietnam War Era are going away now.  It has been almost fifty years since the war ended, although 1970 in Nam was still hot.  Gen X was still in the future.

The number of veterans has slowly dropped until we are about seven percent of the population, a lot different from the years after WWII when there were veterans on every block.

In 1970 we were twenty-five years after WWII. Today we are forty-five years from the end of the Vietnam War. I ask myself all the time why are Baby Boomers still carrying VN when our parents were not carrying WWII after the same time?

  33. Dan Rather

On this day, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, I am thinking of this story we told many years ago. I hope some of you take the time to watch, and remember.

  34. We have a COVID Response Team.  I am soooo ready for Biden to be sworn into office.

  35. My county did well for a long time, but they had to have their Thanksgiving, and now cases are skyrocketing.

My neighbor who is obviously sick but swears it isn’t COVID went to work today, wonder who he’ll end up killing

  36. Tonight’s, local news teaser: An “expert” says employers CAN require employees to take the COVID vaccination.
    That remains to be seen.
Waiting for Republicans to start saying my body, my choice.

  37.  BB, your question is rhetorical I hope. Boomers carry Vietnam because it was on tv at dinner time for about 7 years and was not generally supported by boomers. It was the defining issue of our generation, well, that and civil rights and women’s rights and voting rights… and …

  38. jamie, it may be because every day for the last month as many americans died of trump negligence as did the number who died at pearl harbor.

those are the days that really will live in infamy.
