“jackass”
jace, love “solace” and am proud to say I have an authentic piano roll of the actual scott joblin playing it. was fortunate to come in to possession of a player piano and a whole bunch of rolls from the early 1900s. spooky to watch him play in absentia.
for those who love ragtime, click on this about the upcoming festival may 30- june 2

I think of him as America’s answer to germany’s bach and england’s beatles
wonder if scott Joplin ever played piano in grandpa drumpf’s brothel.
from dailymail back in 2016:
How Donald Trump’s tax-dodging migrant grandpa went from cutting hair to building an empire of brothels where customers could pay in gold dust or nuggets
Friedrich Drumpf was 16 when he moved to New York in 1885
After 6 years as a barber, he went west to set up brothels near the mines
Changed his name to the more catchy ‘Fred Trump’
It made him a fortune offering round-the-clock women, liquor and food
He stayed in the US until 1901, tried to take his Gold Rush-era fortune home, was refused repatriation because he dodged taxes and army service
So he and his new wife were sent back to New York to start their family
[…]
Straight off the boat he met a German-speaking barber who took him on as an apprentice, toiling away for six hapless years while he lived in a tiny box apartment.
At the turn of the decade, however, he heard news of the Klondike gold rush set to hit the North West and Canada.
The shrewd 22-year-old changed his name to a more catchy ‘Fred Trump’ and headed to Seattle, Washington, in 1891.
He launched a saloon-cum-brothel called The Poodle Dog in the bustling district of opium parlors and liquor stores, where he got a flavor for the industry.
After a few years, Trump shifted his business up a few miles to the mining town of Monte Cristo to be closer to the workers – who showed their gratitude in cash, and plenty of it.
By the time the gold rush hit, he was ready.

welcome home, bink!
Jace… excellent!… keep ’em coming…
What? A Bink sighting… I miss your wiseass comments.
Funny thing about that ghost-like presence at the piano……did a cabinet for this guy who had a computerized Steinway Grand…..he could put in a CD and the piano would play it……he popped in a Mozart piece and it was really ghostly watching Amadeus stretch his mitts out on that thing
He said he liked piano music, but couldn’t play and didnt like records and tape reproduction, so he got a piano which would play itself.
player piano……just like the Juke Box, another feeble attempt to put the poor moo-Jicians out of bidness…..
He was a funny guy……he got my number somewhere and calls me up and says, “Hi, this is Mark Lucy-anno…..”
so I’m gonna be a show-off wise guy and I say, “Ahhhh, Loo-CHA-no”
there’s a good bit of a pause and he says……”Lucy-anno”
oooooooh Kay ……..Mr. Lucy-anno, what d’ya need?
but, sturge, it takes a moo-jician to think up and then to play it to make the roll, the record, the tape, the cd or whatever future gadget employed to get music to ear.
Jamie, thanks for that analysis piece. this part makes a lot of sense:
Mueller and his team may have concluded that straight statutory campaign finance allegations rest on too much untested ground and would complicate what may well be the next phase of their investigation. This consideration would not affect the foreign national side of the case: Foreign nationals are plainly prohibited from spending in the manner detailed in the indictment. But how the law reaches American co-conspirators is less certain, and the special counsel’s theory of the case, pleading the campaign finance aspect of the case through conspiracy-to-defraud, may allow more securely for the prosecution of American actors.
In other words, if Mueller’s case for campaign finance violations affected only Russians, there would be no obvious reason to exclude Federal Election Campaign Act violations from the indictment. Russians spent substantial sums to influence an election, as expressly laid out in the charging document, and this is an unambiguous violation of federal law. If, however, Mueller possesses evidence of Americans’ complicity in these violations, he may have decided on a different theory of the campaign finance case that more reliably sweeps in U.S. citizen misconduct.
and guess who misconducts himself the most…. the misconductor in chief, that’s who.
It takes a moo-jician, but he’s generally starving so they pay him peanuts…….all he can eat……..lol
excerpt from a wapo piece:
The state social services probe was the latest in a series of revelations about how Cruz’s pattern of worrisome — and sometimes violent — behavior had prompted concerns and had come to the attention of authorities in the past few years, including school officials, state social services officials and federal law enforcement authorities.
sooo why isn’t fl gov scott calling for his own and local authorities’ resignation? wasn’t he and the fl legislature also responsible for cutting the budgets of some of these programs? per his call for wray to resign, they all should with scott leading the pack.
Thank you Jace. Great Joplin piece and very much needed this AM.
A descendant of one of Grandpa Drumpf’s whores is having a non stop twitter meltdown. It is terrifying that this man holds the power he does.
As soon as I pressed the go-button I thought back to player pianos and the people who were blessed to have the resources to afford them and the rolls that made them so special. Then I read the first comment and Pat had it all sorted out.
Jace, it’s all because of you that we have such happiness every Sunday here on Serendipitinet. Step-up for the Gold.
Pat, Scott’s attempt at transference of responsibility is so incredibly transparent…
Good poetry should rattle cages. Be sure to read to the end.
An incumbent TX State Senator’s campaign ad notes that’s he is the only candidate endorsed by both TX Right to Life and the NRA. Jeez.
The students of Parkland are energized, on the brink of being able to vote…but they have voices now & the NRA-owned Repugz are toast.
Ken Paxton’s wife is running for office. She is the wife of disgraced TX Atty General, Ken Paxton, who was brought up on charges of securities fraud (dismissed with prejudice). She refused to show for a local political show. Probably trying to avoid answering how she and her hubby made all of that money as public servants.
Glad Bernie is on with Chucky T today.
What happens when all of these survivors of high school shootings get old enough to start running for office & there is nobody left to take the NRA’s blood money?
By the way, I never said they Russians didn’t influence any voters.
I said Hillary was not tuned in to the party, which was clearly left of her & was the appeal of Bernie.
I said she couldn’t get traction because Bernie’s ideas resonated with folks and hers did not, so her campaign and the DNC worked together to push him out.
Flawed candidate, unpopular ideas, Russians interference.
More sanctions against Russia.
today’s bible message:
Jeremiah 5:21 New International Version (NIV)
Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear:
And, who will the NRA funnel their blood money through to support candidates & how we do we track & stop that?
No cover for scumbags who won’t support gun control laws & mental health assistance.
Stop saying these are just freshly-traumatized kids. They have more humanity than gun lobbyists and the critters they own. These kids are going to make a difference now & forever.
a strange comment on an also strange website named usmessageboard under the topic “Can Someone Help Me Find Sanders Disavowel of Russian Aid in 2016 Campaign?” from a jim bowie of western va who first commented
I cant believe that Bernie is not going to disavow Russian assistance.Come on Bernie, pretend this was the KKK!
and following pro Bernie follower comments, he said:
The Mueller probe revealed that democrats were played by foreign agents like a freaking violin. Russian agents undermined the Hillary campaign when she was the front runner and supported Sanders while ironically Hillary activists were using dirty tricks to undermine Sanders. The key is the mainstream media. Sanders career would have been over last spring if (Russian agents?) the MSM didn’t downplay a crazy democrat operative Sanders supporter who opened fire on a republican baseball team. How many people even remember the name James Hodgkinson? He lived out of his car in Washington for a month before he opened fire on republicans and he had a list of conservative congresspeople in his pocket. Did the Sanders people furnish Hodgkinson with the republican baseball schedule and other republican targets? We will never know because lame MSN inquiries were met with silence by the DNC and they buried the story faster than they buried Hodgkinson
Laura Ingram takes on Lebron and he stomped all over her
Lovely Jace — thank you so much for all the musical knowledge
Oh, Lucy!
could that conspiracy theory comment have been from our Russian friends continuing to incite the natives? it has the smell of something not quite right about it.
The Sanders group Our Revolution has done nothing to get rid of Trump, stop the fight against health care or elect anyone who might be decent. If Sanders was so popular why isn’t Our Revolution doing something?
All the work against Trump including the townhalls to oppose repeal of the ACA has been done by the Democratic party in coalition with grassroots groups. No signs of Bernie anywhere.
From 2015 and media barely covered because she was a ‘bad candidate” …. We need a whole lot more of this kind of bad candidate.
No you just came on hear recirculating the latest Russian/Bernie meme while calling her “Killlary”. Bernie said this morning that HE told the Clinton campaign about the Russians. Of course he never said one word out loud to any of his cult. He has used people for more than 40 years to feather his own nest while doing next to nothing but yammer slogans. He is a fraud.
Russia is really really good at fomenting dissension….
knows just how to push the buttons to make us fight one another…. even here on the trail.
During the campaign I dug back through Bernie’s life as it was available in the nooks and crannies of the webs. I concluded, despite his being elected for public office, that he was not a nice person nor a positive role model as a student in Chicago, or as a citizen back in Vermont. I concluded he should be running as Bernie Sanders, private citizen.
I moved Bink’s comment to the top of this thread, happy to see him drive by. Of course his “jackass” refers to you-know-who, not our beloved Jace or Joplin.
Well folks, nothing like a good set of indictments to get a reaction from SFB. The guy is going bonkers. He left what little reality he had far behind and it is not going to get better for him over the next weeks. His tweet storm has been wonderful, wonderful in a way that shows there is a serious leak of helium in his gas head.
Sunday and the snow is starting to melt. I have been watching cruising the Bahamas videos to cheer myself up. Now I need to buy a boat to get there.
For Laura Ingraham.

note the phrase “to this point”…. verrry important and said more than once.
today on abc ‘this week’ Martha & the gov who ate new jersey
RADDATZ: OK. Thanks to you, Pierre, and thank you, Dan.
And joining me now is Jeh Johnson. He serve as President Obama’s secretary of homeland security for the final three years of his administration, and Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey and an ABC News contributor.
Good morning, gentlemen. I want to start with you, Governor Christie, and talk to you about this Russia investigation.
President Trump repeatedly called the Russia investigation a witch hunt over the last few years. I want to read you the tweet that he had this morning. “If it was the goal of Russia to create discord, disruption and chaos within the U.S., then with all the committee hearings, investigations, and party hatred, they have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. They are laughing their asses off in Moscow. Get smart America. ”
Can he really keep calling this an excuse by the Democrats to justify losing the election? Can he — he’s not confronting Russia on this. What’s your reaction to those tweets Governor Christie?
FMR. GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE (R), N.J.: Well listen, what I’d say to you first Martha is that the indictment that Director Mueller laid out yesterday was incredibly detailed and gave the American people for the first time, a real picture into the scope of at least part of the operation that was obviously meant to disparage and damage Hillary Clinton.
And I think, you know, what we read in the indictment yesterday is very, very clear on that point and I think everyone’s going to have to come around to the idea that that’s at least part of what the Russians were attempting to do in the election.
But I’d caution everybody to not believe that this is yet over because there’s lots of other places where Director Mueller to look regarding potential Russian involvement in all this. And I think he’s going after this in a very measured, direct way. And I think we’ve unfortunately got more — more to learn and more to come in the — in the days and weeks ahead.
RADDATZ: Do you believe as President Trump said, that it proves there is no collusion?
CHRISTIE: Well, it proves there’s no collusion to this point, there’s no collusion in terms of the Facebook ads, the other social media activity. You know, Director Mueller made it very clear in the indictment that any participation by any body, whether it was in the Trump campaign, or the Sanders campaign which they said was also being assisted by this effort by Russia, that all that was done unwittingly, that no one participated in a knowing fashion.
Now we have to see where he goes next, but certainly at this point, there is no allegation by Director Mueller and his team of collusion.
RADDATZ: Do you believe — just going back to that first point, does the president need to directly address the Russians? Does he need to mobilize the government to be effective?
They’re going to do it again in 2018, according to intelligence officials. They’re going to do it again in 2020. What should the president be doing and saying?
CHRISTIE: The president should be staying out of law enforcement business. You know, I listened to the testimony of Director Wray, who is an outstanding FBI Director in my view, giving testimony on Capital Hill that they are very aware of what’s going on and if they’re going to bring the resources that are necessary to try to protect our electoral process in 2018.
And I’ve always thought that the best thing — as governor I felt this way, and I think the same rules apply to presidents — they should stay out of law enforcement activity, and I think that’s what the president will do, and I think he’ll leave it to Director Wray, the other folks at the Justice Department and out intelligence community to do what needs to be done to protect our electoral process.
We’re certainly on notice now, Martha. We’re on notice that the Russians want to do this, and have the capability to do it. I don’t know to what effect they really had in 2016, but we don’t want to leave this to chance, and I don’t think Director Wray or the other people in the intelligence community will do that.
These are really good professionals who will do their job in the right way.
bbronc, on the twit tweets today the hill noted:
But his most surprising target was national security adviser H.R. McMaster, who spoke at length at a conference in Munich about threats posed by Russia.
“General McMaster forgot to say that the results of the 2016 election were not impacted or changed by the Russians and that the only Collusion was between Russia and Crooked H, the DNC and the Dems. Remember the Dirty Dossier, Uranium, Speeches, Emails and the Podesta Company!” Trump tweeted.
nothing like undermining you own staff, sh*thead….. excuse me, that’s president sh*thead.
Do you think SFB will suggest McMasters buy his own ticket home from Germany
The word “Jackasses” could be applied so broadly that I was finally forced to admit to myself that it conceivably included me…..but then I thought…..haha, well of course it does…….why wouldn’t it?
And so, then I was just glad to see the old Nex of Ig again…..
Yeah, i got nuthin’ to say these days. Everything is too obvious. “The leader of the Free World is a jackass”- yeah, no shit. “Republicans and conservatives would rather watch your child be murdered than implement responsible gun control legislation” -shit, we’ve known that for decades. “The United States will never recover from the reckless non-governance by a traitorous criminal cabal installed by a population of chattering morons”- that should be obvious enough, by now. “Sad.”
…hopefully everyone is well, regardless! Oh, sorry to hear about your 13 friends that got indicted, Blue.
There’s a great poetry line, but it’s so entirely maudlin that I can’t bring myself to repeat it………
Do you realize most of the American misanthropic gun-owning troglodytes just keep all their stupid guns locked in a safe, and rarely, if ever, even shoot them? That’s the “right” for which such people think is worth watching hundreds of kids get murdered, annually- the “right” to warehouse metal tubes in their basement. So friggin’ dumb.
What’s to say in the face of that?!
Yeah, everybody’s said all the crap till they’re black and blue in the face, and the money keeps rolling in to these crypto-fascists who think nothing about stealing and cheating as long as they win and keep the money rolling.
“A 19-year old shouldn’t be legally able to purchase or posess an assault rifle”. Ummm, of course? Oh, wait, I forgot- we’re a nation of morons that got duped by a nation of people that dress like they’re auditioning for a Broadway adaptation of “Jersey Shore”.
Ah, so cathartic!
Yo, sturge.
Hasta…
Haha, hasta…….I love talking Spanish, with a smattering of education and understanding, with the local Latinos who are here in this great building zone just working their asses off…….they seem to appreciate a gringo who at least expresses some interest in their language……and vaguely, somehow I appreciate those two high school years with Luke Pappas teaching Spanish, and then that one semester of French, one semester of German, and one semester of Latin and those five semesters of Spanish at the Citadel and old CofC in good old charleston; well, you get the picture, me and all the Latinos here understand linguistics
Now, I wanna take Italian and Greek…..hell, I’m so old now, it’s free……..ain’t that something?
sturge, better brush up on chinese and Russian while you’re at it…. may come in handy
🙁
I been kind of interested in Chinese ever since TAI-PAN and NOBLE HOUSE…….not enough to learn any of it, of course, but……you know
Russian? I guess I’ll check up on it next time I go to Sitka…..
Or order a stone countertop from the Russian countertop guys down Hwy 17 a ways
he’s baaaack tonight. beware.
here’s a rather sober interview with him by brit sky news a couple of days ago
Some of them say, “It’s Ukranian”
one of those phrases that may come in handy
Не стреляйте, я голосовал за Сандерс и козырь
[translation: Don’t shoot, i voted for sanders and trump]
What Mueller did Friday was as important as what Alexander Butterfield did when he tossed the Nixon WH tapes info out. Those tapes put a lasso around Nixon in the same way that Mueller laid the bricks of Russian, FSB/SVR/GRU, around SFB. Over the next few weeks I would not be surprised to hear from the rump tower lobby sweeper and the rump tower brass polisher, telling us about people going up and down in the rump tower elevator.
The lasso is pulling tighter and tighter around SFB. He will be going wild very soon. Probably want to nuke North Korea and New York City.

la times: Former Trump aide Rick Gates to plead guilty; agrees to testify against Manafort, sources say
A former top aide to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign will plead guilty to fraud-related charges within days – and has made clear to prosecutors that he would testify against Paul J. Manafort Jr., the lawyer-lobbyist who once managed the campaign.
The change of heart by Trump’s former deputy campaign manager, Richard W. Gates III, who had pleaded not guilty after being indicted in October on charges similar to Manafort’s, was described in interviews by people familiar with the case.
“Rick Gates is going to change his plea to guilty,” said a person with direct knowledge of the new developments, adding that the revised plea will be presented in federal court in Washington “within the next few days.”

Bernie Sanders Says His Social Media Person Warned Clinton About Russian Efforts
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said on Meet The Press that his social media person in San Diego went to the Clinton campaign in September and warned them about weird Russian efforts to use his Facebook pages to say horrible things and undermine democracy.
Chuck Todd: Let me start with Russia, since I ended there, to keep sort of the flow of the conversation going here. Your campaign, perhaps these Russians were told to leave it alone, that the only people that they were not to criticize were Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders. I’m curious, did anybody in your campaign get interviewed by Mueller to just make sure your campaign had nothing to do with this?
Sen. Bernie Sanders: No. To the best of my knowledge, nobody in our campaign was interviewed. Mueller mentioned me twice, our campaign twice in his report. And I think what he was talking about is kind of old news. It’s what most Americans know, is that at the end of my campaign, when it appeared that Clinton was going to win, and certainly, after she won the nomination, what the Russians were doing is flocking to Bernie Sanders Facebook sites, and they were saying to Bernie Sanders supporters, as they were, by the way, to Black Lives Matter supporters, people who are fighting for social justice, as they were saying to the Muslim community, if you voted for Sanders, you have to understand, Hillary Clinton is crazy, she’s a murderer, she is terrible, all kinds of horrible, horrible things about Hillary Clinton. And it turns out that one of our social media guys in San Diego actually went to the Clinton campaign in September and said something weird is going on. Bernie’s not in the campaign. Hundreds of these people are now coming on to his Facebook site. So, I think we already knew that it was an effort to undermine American democracy and to really say horrible things about Secretary Clinton.

Bink, good to see you in the hood. If it w’unt for smartassness political commentary wouldn’t be worth engaging in. Thanks for dropping your observations into the mix.
Blue, you’re back to denial. Bernie lost. The party was where the votes were, which is where Hillary was. See how this works?
Jamie, thanks for being an accurate historian. Please correct me if I misremember my prior positions.
BTW, Bink, re your jackass comment- I resemble that remark.
We thought the Supreme Court subverting the will of the people to elect Bush was awful. Putin taking over even worse.
Imagining Diaper Don now in fetal position on Mar-a-Lago bathroom floor begging Roy Cohn to come back from the dead. Rosenbergs: ROFLMAO.
Biden is running.
