Why should we believe White House claims Trump knew nothing about the wife beater? Their credibility tanked long ago.
Dear Leader: Your WH is in meltdown thanks to FBI outing of a wife beater on your personal staff, consequently humiliating your chief of staff.
You might want to rethink smearing the FBI.
More to come.
bbronc, up and at ’em!

“There’s some big-money players that have really leveraged to the low rates forever, and they have to unwind those trades,” Doug Cote, chief market strategist at Voya Investment Management, told Bloomberg News. “They could be in full panic mode right now.”
Chris Weston, chief market strategist at the online trader IG in Melbourne, said volatility was the main problem.
He said the Vix volatility index – also known as the “fear index” – had spiked sharply this year “and that means there is no confidence about going out and filling your boots with stocks”.
“You could wake up and the Dow is down another 1,000 points, or it could be up,” Weston said. “There’s no certainty. Markets like certainty but the only certainty at the minute is of a big move and that could be up or down.”
Analysts in Japan suggested that the correction in equities could last until March.
“Tokyo shares had fallen to a level that was attractive for buying, but investors refrained from doing so after seeing a wild correction in the US market,” Masahiro Ichikawa, a senior strategist at Sumitomo Mitsui Asset Management Co. told Kyodo News.

Jim Rogers, the veteran US investor, said he expected the selling to continue until the US Federal Reserve raises rates in March. Without predicting the timing, Rogers also issued a more general warning about the next big market crash.
“When we have a bear market again, and we are going to have a bear market again, it will be the worst in our lifetime,” he told Bloomberg. “Debt is everywhere, and it’s much, much higher now.”
Awaiting the morning glory here.
hope hicks, must have know there was a wife beater t-shirt under porter’s temple garments. trump’s tabloid troupe continues while Mueller circles-in on the trumpence junta. The deplorable with medals, kelly, still miffed he could not spend time with his gf in Davos, spreads his ugly speak throughout the WH. Many say he is not the same general he was before…ya think? He deserves a tumble in the barrel.
The parade? What a junta does when it is in trouble. If only Harward had taken the job.
Whew…government shut down over and the yard waste abuser, runt paul, had his say. The gop jumped the shark when they blew a 1.5 trillion dollar hole in the economy with their December tax cuts and now? That shark is going to come back and devour the party in November.
I live in a blue state with red overtones and it seems the dems are gaining more ground, confidence. From our Senators to more young, Hispanic women running for office…most importantly, running for pearce’s congressional seat. It is looking like a richer shade of blue for New Mexico.

Two more retirements at the fbi.
Mike Kortan, FBI assistant director for public affairs, is set to retire next week, an FBI spokeswoman confirmed. In addition, the chief of the Justice Department’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section, David Laufman, resigned this week, a department spokesman said. Both men are discussed in text messages sent by senior FBI Agent Peter Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page.
As potus, trump has access to any confidential info he wants…a wife beater hiding in plain sight? Remember trump claims to be so smart, almost clairvoyant. Old trump has really put the ‘con’ back into the constitution and the complicit goppers applaud him for his contorted patriotism to only himself.
Mr Crawford, are you related to the William Crawford who was a player in the Adams-Jackson episode?

meanwhile there’s a piece in wapo today that deserves reading and rereading;

SFB is also guilty of domestic violence
Of course he knew. SFB couldn’t care less about domestic violence – it’s been part of his life.
If there really are a dozen White House aides who can’t get security clearances, won’t it be fun to see the reasons for that drip drip drip out.
Does Jared Kushner have a security clearance?
Well…. y’all know what “they” say….
payback is a bitch, homey!
LMAO!
Rob Porter isn’t the first reported abuser White House Chief of Staff John Kelly has defended … https://t.co/PI5YrRx4Gj
KG, Jared one of those still on interim, can’t get permanent clearance.
RR, yep, Trump will regret making war on Intel community.
Sadly SFB/Cadet Bone Spur regrets nothing. He will go down kicking, screaming and lying.
He will say the FBI withheld information and are out to get him – this is just another example.
oh how things have changed or not. this is an exverpt from an old march 1994 story in wapo:
100 ON WHITE HOUSE STAFF LACK CLEARANCE
[….]
White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers is among what she said are about 10 percent of the 1,044 White House staff members who have not completed the FBI clearance process that produces the first level of clearance for access to classified material. Myers said she has routine access to secret material.
The White House would not identify others who have access to such material without security clearances and would not say how many of the 100-plus staff members who have not concluded the FBI clearance process are newer — or longtime — employees.
Last week House Republicans raised the issue of White House officials failing to complete the clearance process. Myers acknowledged that she had not, due to the press of other business, and said that only one other senior official fit that category. That is Ricki Seidman, who has served as deputy communications director, as a counselor to the chief of staff and now as head of the scheduling operation. She did not return phone calls.
Myers said, in clarifying the numbers of those lacking clearances, that of the 125 most senior jobs at the White House, all but 15 have completed the FBI background checks and have security clearances. All National Security Council staff members fit that category, she said.
But of the White House staff overall, which includes workers from secretaries in the social secretary’s office to computer operators, a little more than 100 lack the clearances. “Most of them don’t have a need to deal with secure documents,” Myers said. But she could not estimate how many have access to such documents or could see them if they tried.

craig, the concluding paragraph in that vox article seems to explain a lot about and parallel the twit’s modus operandi of beating up on our allies… particularly merkle and may:
In a 1994 interview, ABC News’s Nancy Collins confronted Trump about his past comments regarding women, particularly a New York magazine interview in which he said, “You have to treat women like shit.” In response, Trump said:
A funny thing about clearances. I needed a higher level on one of my clearances. It dragged along for a year without action. Finally it was discovered sitting on a desk. So it was given to an investigator to put some speed on it. Eight months later it was MIA again. Rattle some cages and it was found again. Nothing happening until SFB transition team was in a panic. The people who do things realized that my paperwork was complete and if they held it any longer they would be overwhelmed with the transition and staff clearances. So it was popped out just before SFB inauguration. It should take less than a year, but it took over two years and SFB showing up to get it done.
These furloughs are getting to me. I need to be retrained after them as I lose all my bearings of where I should be working and what I should be doing.
from cnn money:
Hope Hicks, elusive Trump aide, in the spotlight amid Rob Porter scandal
[….]
Hicks, a former model and P.R. professional, had no political experience before Trump tapped her to work on his presidential campaign in early 2015. But Trump knew her through her work doing P.R. and other projects for Ivanka Trump.
Hicks’ mother, Caye, recounted her hiring this way: “Mr. Trump sat her down and said, ‘This is your new job.’ It was a shocker.”
Trump officially entered the presidential race a few months later.
“Remember, she’s the longest-serving aide” Trump has with him in the White House, said Olivia Nuzzi, who profiled Hicks for GQ magazine in 2016.
When Trump won, he appointed her “director of strategic communications,” a new title for a new kind of president. Hicks has been the gatekeeper for most — though not all — of his interviews.
Trump went through two communications directors in his first seven months. After Anthony Scaramucci was ousted, Hicks took on the job.
[….]
“The reason why she’s endured throughout the hiring and firing and public scandals and private dramas and backstabbing is because she’s smarter than anyone else who’s passed through Trump’s orbit,” Nuzzi remarked.
“….she’s smarter than anyone else who’s passed through Trump’s orbit”

abc news: Sources: Chief of Staff John Kelly expressed to President Trump willingness to resign
President Donald Trump, furious over the handling of domestic abuse allegations involving one of his closest aides, has spoken to confidantes about the possibility of replacing embattled Chief of Staff John Kelly, sources close to the president tell ABC News.
One confidante — longtime friend and former executive chairman of his inaugural committee, Tom Barrack — was approached to gauge his interest in the chief of staff position, a source familiar with the matter told ABC News. Barrack said he won’t take the job, the source said.
Kelly has made clear to the president in the last 24 hours that he’s willing to resign in light of the president’s dissatisfaction over the West Wing’s handling of the allegations against former Staff Secretary Rob Porter, according to sources who have spoken with Trump and Kelly.
While Kelly’s fate is in question, sources familiar with the matter said they did not believe his departure is imminent. Kelly was seen working in the West Wing on Friday, leading his daily senior staff meeting and joining Trump in the Oval Office during an afternoon photo op.
Several Trump confidantes reached by ABC News said the president is considering multiple names as possible Kelly replacements, among those, top economic adviser Gary Cohn, Office of Management and Budget director Mick Mulvaney and Rep. Mark Meadows.

cnn:
WH spokesman: John Kelly hasn’t offered to resign
Just think about this for a second or two. Kelly, the disgraced general, resigns leaving an open CoS position. Who will fill it? Who will be in power to fill it? Will SFB get a vote? If he does, which porn star will be the winner of the night? This could be scary.
Hmm, time to do a facelift on Hahvahd’s logo

And the takeaway from that story: Hope Hicks should’ve paid (by losing her job) for trying to shield jerk-face-porter. Why didn’t anything happen to him? Why weren’t charges brought against him? And Cadet BS wishes him well & hope he has a great career? He should go crawl in a hole. Both of them, actually.
Now to watch the South Koreans appeasers and the f-ing Norks in the Olympics. To heck with all the commies.

John DeStefano will serve as Assistant to the President and Counselor to the President. Mr. DeStefano will oversee the Offices of Presidential Personnel, Political Affairs, and Public Liaison. Mr. DeStefano previously served as Assistant to the President and Director of Presidential Personnel.
Third ranking official resigns at Justice. trump’s EO about secession at justice from March ’17.
Trump speechwriter David Sorensen resigned today amid allegations of domestic violence brought forth by his ex-wife Jessica Corbett, WashPost first reported and Axios has confirmed. Sorensen denies the allegations, alleging he is the victim of abuse from Corbett.
Why it matters: Sorensen is the second Trump administration official to resign over domestic violence claims this week.

Lying sack of shit – SFB declines to release the Democratic memo. Gee, I wonder why that is? He cites security concerns. Bullshit, I say bullshit. It’s a counter argument that shows that the Repugnican memo from his ass licker Nunes is nothing but nonsense. (Was that too harsh?)
Patd, couldn’t sleep in the middle of the night last night. Went to something or the other On Demand and watched Our Cartoon President. Came close to laughing my ass off.
Poobah, Do not let the fact that SFB’s Chief of Staff testified on behalf of a colonel under his command who was accused of domestic abuse while he was still in general. There is a culture of abuse in the SFB WH.
