  1. I noticed  he looked down to read from notes he had before him on the table before saying that second “fire and fury and frankly power” bit.  the body language was incredible, arms folded tightly crossed as though he were in a straight jacket disguised as a suit.  expected to see him led away any minute by a coterie of shrinks.

  2. why are phrases like “weapons of mass destruction” and “yellow cake” coming to mind with the news of the miniaturized nuke warheads?

  3. Lol. Fat & furry threatens fire and fury.

Well Craig, I hear you about the GW forest, and if LP were living on the edge of it that might be where I’d go to visit. But alas, he’s big apple bound so I’ll be visiting Strawberry Fields instead of Seneca Rocks.

  4. As I tend to ask, how low can he go? Investors Business Daily has him at 32% now. Congratulations Donald you’ve set another record.

  5. Learn something new every day dept.

There’s a Strawberry Fields in NYC as well as in Merrie Olde England

  6. Sturge, yep – in the shadow of the Dakota. I understand the two share nothing but a name.

  7. Pogo,

God has given Trump the authority to take out North Korea.

Oh shit! Here we go again with that whole ‘Devine right of Kings’ thing again.Would  someone please explain to SFB that this is not an episode of Game of Thrones. Fire and Fury sound like the names of our two dragons.

Enjoy NYC, especially the shows and the museums. Your proposed itinerary sounds superb. Color me envious.?

  8. pogo, that preacher guy’s biblical quote

“When it comes to how we should deal with evil doers, the Bible, in the book of Romans, is very clear: God has endowed rulers full power to use whatever means necessary — including war — to stop evil,” Jeffress said. “In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong Un.”

could also be interpreted another way if drumpf is the “evil” to be stopped as well as lil kim.

china might not like all that fire and fury at their doorstep… not good for business…. and Xi Jinping is endowed with power

  9. The planets must be in perfect alignment. A rouge state is now being  threatened by a rouge President, followed shortly thereafter by a total eclipse of the sun.

Not afraid yet? You should be.?

  10. excerpt from Denver post story Guam’s worries grow as tensions rise between U.S., North Korea
“If anything happens, we all got to be ready, be prepared, and pray to God that it doesn’t happen”
    [….]

Todd Thompson, a lawyer who lives on Guam, said he laughed off past threats because he “figured cooler heads in Washington would prevail, and it was just an idle threat.”

“But I have to say, I’m not laughing now,” Thompson said. “My concern is that things have changed in Washington, and who knows what’s going to happen?”

His brother Mitch Thompson, who also lives on Guam, added he believes “a lot of people have no confidence that the White House will do the right thing under the circumstances.”

However, the brothers say they haven’t seen anyone panicking or stocking up on supplies.

“I think people are just stunned and really don’t know what to think,” Todd Thompson said.

  11. china has to be a tad worried too.  there’s always the possibility that things can go awry and kim’s little toy rocket backfires or accidentally changes trajectory due to miscalculations.  sh*t is known to happen even in the best of circumstances.

how large an area of radioactivity would an ill-timed unplanned explosion cover?  sure could ruin one’s day.

  12. Guam is part of America–just ask the Guamanians who carry US passports. It is a lovely place. If it is not protected by anti-missile defenses and it falls victim to SFB’s rhetoric, may Trump burn in Hell.

  13. Patd,

Romans 13: 4  Paul is way out on a limb here in talking about the right of rulers to smite evil does. (As you know I have my differences with him)

To use this example in relationship to the Trump-Kim confrontation is to cherry pick scripture to suit a preferred outcome. (Nothing new here either)

God does not turn over the sword of righteousness to the unrighteous to  have them carry out his wishes. Paul should have known better. But then his life prior to conversion was as something of a spear carrier for for often times suspect rulers. He also tended to spend a lot of time talking or perhaps I should say writing that would have been better spent listening. I give him a pass on occasions when he is good which are many, not so much when he is wrong, which are equal in number. This is one of the latter occasions.

  14. ny times: North Korea’s Potential Targets: South Korea, Japan and Guam

    [….]
The North Korean military warned on Wednesday that it would “burn up all the objects” in border regions of the South, including Seoul, “the moment the U.S. reckless attempt at pre-emptive attack is spotted” and that “the whole of the southern half” of Korea would be its target.
But North Korea has a multitude of options, especially ones in which its enemies would not quickly be able to trace the origin, like cyber attacks, analysts said.
It could also, for example, seize Japanese, South Korean and American citizens and hold them hostage, using them as a leverage to drive a wedge between Washington and its allies, especially should Mr. Trump launch a military attack without consulting American allies, they said.
North Korea could mobilize its sleeper spies in the South or use drones to attempt terrorist attacks, possibly involving chemical and biological agents, analysts said. In recent months, South Korea has found several North Korean drones flying into its airspace.
    [….]
No hoarding or other signs of panic were reported in South Korea on Wednesday. In contrast, back in 1994, when rumors spread that the United States was evacuating its non-combatant citizens from the South, many South Koreans panicked, stocking up on food in the event of war.
[…article continues re attack threats on japan and guam…..]

  15. Pogo,
I urge you consider reviewing the purchase of an HP-12c financial calculator for the Kid’s benefit. I’ve been using mine to evaluate investment alternatives since ’85. When I entered USF’s Executive MBA program in ’86, each student’s welcome package included a new HP-12 along with the HP produced solutions manual. It’s utility spans beyond money but gets to the heart of business finance–guiding executive management through investment and resource utilization alternatives. Get the original version of the product that is still available, new, made in USA.

    http://www.hpmuseum.org/hp12c.htm

  16. Flatus, he has an HP BA II Plus Financial Calculator (I think that’s the one) I believe.  I’m sure the profs will have a preference – should find out soon enough.

SFB needs better writers.  Harry Truman’s edict in WWII carried a bit more conviction, although at that time no one knew what he was referring to.  Hell, Kurt Russell had better writers in Tombstone.  He told Ike Clanton, “You called down the thunder, well now you get it.  Tell em the law’s coming.  You tell em I’m coming, and hell’s coming with me.”

I was laughing this morning at SFB’s junior senior adviser Steven Miller saying he’s the greatest politician and greatest ORATOR ever in the white house, or in the universe, or some such nonsense.  Orator my ass.

  17. Sounds like SFB and lil Kim are engaging in comparative anatomy. Dumbasses.

And exactly who found those letters of Paul to the Romans, and when?  Even if someone did in fact find them in my line of work they are hearsay and inadmissible absent an exception.

  18. Jeez, people need to stop egging Trump on by telling him that now he has to act on his careless words. The man in irrational, and you can expect irrational people to do irrational things. Where’s Al Haig when we need him? I hope McMaster and Mattis keep a tight hold on the military reins, but I also hate the military takeover elements of that.

And the people who are citing the Bible as justification are even nuttier then he is.

  19. trump trash talking the norks escalates as the noose tightens…the russian probe deepens.

This will add a new dimension to the Perseid meteor showers peaking late this week.  Expect the superstitious trump supporters to begin the agitation cycle around the solar eclipse on the 21st.  August is going to be an interesting month.

  20. the trumpence junta has known about the manafort raid for almost two weeks and the intelligence report and leak on the miniaturization of the nork nuclear warhead was never questioned by trump…who adamantly believes that no intelligence should be trusted since iraq.  A convenient truth for him?   His kids must be in big trouble, too, with the feds.  Expect russian probe to be bumped from top news headline as trump continues to make headlines.

  21. WAPO — FBI agents raided the Alexandria home of President Trump’s former campaign chairman late last month, using a search warrant to seize documents and other materials, according to people familiar with the special counsel investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

The Post sure is on a roll these days.

  22. Let’s face it……anyone using anything in the bible except the red words as justification for anything are well beyond “nuttier”

They should all go play with a rattlesnake fahchrissakes

  23. and BW, the post article mentions Mueller is going after Manafort’s entire business, not just Russia stuff, in what could be a plan to flip him against Trump world or face charges for who knows what

  24. Seems like most of the things which the loudly strident christians use the bible to justify stand in stark contrast to the red words.

    That’s just plain schizophrenic.

  25. Hubby and I are having a hard time distinguishing between the map of possible nuclear destruction from the nork nuclear warhead and the map of the path of the solar eclipse.

  26. bw & craig, the timing of bringing on the mooch with all his distractions was about the same time (or perhaps just after) as that raid.  nothing like now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t misdirection.  perhaps also the generals made their move to get the whouse in order seeing how things were beginning to go down the drain.

  27. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by abnormal social behavior and failure to understand what is real. Common symptoms include false beliefsunclear or confused thinkinghearing voices that others do not hear, People with schizophrenia often have additional mental health problems such as anxiety disordersmajor depressive illness, or substance-use disorders.[11] Symptoms typically come on gradually, begin in young adulthood, and last a long time.[3][5]

as an Ab-Psych prof I had once explained the difference between actual schizophrenia and the common impression of it…..schizo is not “multiple personalities” but rather an utter lack of the ability to muster up ONE coherent personality.

but if that doesn’t really apply then it could be called some other nasty way to be.

  28. patd…if the generals allow trump back into the Oval Office, it will be for house arrest in the Oval Office which has been rewired for ‘no escape’ until they can get him to a more secure facility.

  29. interesting too that the raid came the day of or just after ( heard this on cnn) he had turned over notes taken at the infamous Russian lawyer mtg with don jr, jared and other suspicious characters to the senate committee.  must have been some blanks in those notes or he “accidentally” left a few pages out.  bet there was something said to investigators that sparked the raid….  remember a warrant had to be gotten based on reasonable cause.

  30. Time for me to re-read On The Beach.  And, I’m going to build a target to carry around on my back to make sure Kim hits me directly as I don’t really want to sit and wait for the nuclear winter to take hold and die a painful and slow death.

Sturg, great selection by Leonard Cohen.

  31. Holy leaks!  The predawn raid was kept quiet for almost two weeks while trumpence pointed to rampant leaks…the perfect cover.

  32. Sturgeone

I agree whole heartedly about the Twit of Tarsus, but he was one hell of a press agent.  No one knows the name of all the other messiahs wandering about the Palestine of the time.

  33. atlantic pointed to the tweet tirade against McCabe happened the day of the raid:

It’s not clear when the White House became aware of the FBI raid on Manafort’s Alexandria home. A few hours after the raid, Trump suggested that Andrew McCabe, the then-acting director of the FBI, had acted improperly in a previous investigation he oversaw. “Why didn’t A.G. Sessions replace Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, a Comey friend who was in charge of Clinton investigation but got big dollars ($700,000) for his wife’s political run from Hillary Clinton and her representatives,” he wrote on Twitter. The tweets came as part of a weeks-long campaign of criticism against Attorney General Jeff Sessions that has since abated.

  34. bbronc, this reported a few minutes ago at wapo:

Active-duty military members sue Trump over transgender ban

Five active-duty service members sued President Trump Wednesday over his intentions to ban transgender personnel from serving in the military.

“The directive to reinstate a ban on open service by transgender people violates both the Equal Protection component of the Fifth Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution,” states the suit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington by five anonymous “Jane Does.”

They are represented by the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) and GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD).
    […]
The plaintiffs are a Coast Guard member who has written a prospective letter of resignation; an Air Force active-duty service member of nearly 20 years who served twice in Iraq; and three Army soldiers

  35. Thanks for the “satirical map” of Europe, Jamie.  A search of that term yields many other interesting ones.

  36. cnn:

US Defense Secretary James Mattis issued a dramatic ultimatum to North Korea on Wednesday to “cease any consideration of actions that would lead to the end of its regime and destruction of its people” — strong words that come just one day after President Donald Trump warned that the US could unleash “fire and fury” on Pyongyang.
“The DPRK must choose to stop isolating itself and stand down its pursuit of nuclear weapons,” Mattis said in a written statement, adding that the “regime’s actions will continue to be grossly overmatched by ours and would lose any arms race or conflict it initiates.”

  37. Twice a day since the beginning of the Trump administration, a special folder is prepared for the president. The first document is prepared around 9:30 a.m. and the follow-up, around 4:30 p.m. Former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and former Press Secretary Sean Spicer both wanted the privilege of delivering the 20-to-25-page packet to President Trump personally, White House sources say.

These sensitive papers, described to VICE News by three current and former White House officials, don’t contain top-secret intelligence or updates on legislative initiatives. Instead, the folders are filled with screenshots of positive cable news chyrons (those lower-third headlines and crawls), admiring tweets, transcripts of fawning TV interviews, praise-filled news stories, and sometimes just pictures of Trump on TV looking powerful.

One White House official said the only feedback the White House communications shop, which prepares the folder, has ever gotten in all these months is: “It needs to be more fucking positive.” That’s why some in the White House ruefully refer to the packet as “the propaganda document.”

The process of assembling the folder begins at the Republican National Committee’s “war room,” which has expanded from 4 to 10 people since the GOP won the White House. A war room — both parties have one regardless of who’s in the White House — is often tasked with monitoring local and national news, cable television, social media, digital media, and print media to see how the party, its candidates or their opponents are being perceived.

Beginning at 6 a.m. every weekday — the early start is a longtime war room tradition — three staffers arrive at the RNC to begin monitoring the morning shows on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News as they scour the internet and newspapers. Every 30 minutes or so, the staffers send the White House Communications Office an email with chyron screenshots, tweets, news stories, and interview transcripts.

White House staffers then cull the information, send out clips to other officials, and push favorable headlines to a list of journalists. But they also pick out the most positive bits to give to the president. On days when there aren’t enough positive chyrons, communications staffers will ask the RNC staffers for flattering photos of the president.

“Maybe it’s good for the country that the president is in a good mood in the morning,” one former RNC official said.

Contacted by VICE News, Spicer disputed the nature of the folder. “While I won’t comment on materials we share with the president, this is not accurate on several levels,” he said in an email. Asked what about the story was inaccurate, Spicer did not respond.

same report also found at uk telegraph …. have a feeling world is laughing at us when they’re not quaking in boots over wwiii about to happen.

  38. Is Mattis just backing up PG or is this the first serious verbal salvo across Kim’s bow?  How far are we prepared to start a nuclear exchange?  Michael Moore said at the beginning of PG’s term that he would get us all killed!  This is insane!

  39. After his brave new book, Conscience of a Conservative, made the rounds of tv talk shows, progressive Arizonans (there are many) are waiting to hear Jeff Flake address the latest PG bombastic statements about nuclear war.  Just like every other issue PG promotes, Flake is missing in action!

  40. Mueller will emerge from the rubble of a charred, post-nuclear hellscape, report in hand: “Ok, guys, I’m ready to recommend charges!  Hello?  Anyone?”

  41. Once again, we have a representative democracy.  If our government sucks, it’s because we do.

  42. Hey…..if thermonuclear war ain’t enough for you, let’s have a civil war, too…….That’ll REALLY shake ’em up.

  43. Ever get the sneaky feeling that Russia and China are just hanging around out there like a couple of big fat garden spiders, with all their nets in place…..waiting?   They both know that us’ns is relelatively new to this Delian League kind of thing.   The dismantling will probably be economic rather than military . But one never knows.   A bit of The Thukydides Trap, anyone?

  44. It was internal discord that was the un-doing of Athens and its league.

Which way do we go, George; which way do we go?

  45. “Get nuke codes away from Trump”

…and give them to whom?  Mattis?  Your admonition is predicated on the assumption that there exists any one sane and responsible in Republican national leadership, and we know that to not be the case.  We had our chance, we elected a fascist.  Deal with it.

  46. That poor old Macgregor shines about as much as it’s ever going to in the middle of a stand of pine trees grown up around it in the middle of what used to be a field. It can shine its own damn self…….lol

    Stupid boat……….

  47. If the pres were somehow confirmed to be suffering from Alzheimer’s, I wonder how much of his base he would lose……

  48. Craig, here is reality. The National Military Command Center in the Pentagon knows exactly how the President, any President, is mentally and physically any time that individual is in contact with authorizing codes. If there is any doubt at all that the person delivering a code is impaired or under duress, trained individuals along the line will defer to alternative authority.

Everybody around these damned things is shielded from them by at least two trained, thoroughly indoctrinated, armed people who will shoot someone who disobeys orders to leave their nukes or enabling codes alone. I have seen these countermeasures deter general officers; I have no doubt that they would work with a CinC.

Current safety measures are adequate. Additional feel-good actions will break a functional system where time is of the essence.

  49. Well, it has been a rather disgusting couple of days.  SFB goes off and starts fallout shelter sales skyrocketing.  One pundit gave consideration that the idiot was enjoying all the commotion caused by his call to nuclear war.  Perhaps he was sitting on the golden throne, straining to clear his ears, looking at his little phone screen with all the fear and panic he caused in graphic demonstrations.

Does this fool even think?  Apparently not.  His little verbal spewing can cause serious panic.

    HOWEVER

He has reached the point that what he says and tweets is ignored.  The stock markets had no response.  The military failed to go into deployment mode.  The B-52’s and B-2’s are not in the air.  TP is still on the shelves and there is no shortage of bottled water.

SFB has reached the point of “who cares”.  He is now the grandfather sitting in the rocking chair swearing at President Wilson for letting Little Big Horn fall to the Red Coats (British).  He is the crazy uncle who is seated at his own table so he does not try to feel up the grandchildren, boys and girls.  He is the hitchhiker on the road who will not be picked up because he is not wearing pants and his scribblings on cardboard are done in crayon.

No one wants the guy anymore.  He poll numbers are approaching impeachment level.  I suspect that when he breaks thirty percent he is gone.  That means rank and file Republicans are no longer supporting him.  Only those who bay at the moon, and lick their own Moochies are left.  And those few are not enough to keep the senile old man in office.

  50. Flatus, none of the safeguards you describe are encoded in law, which is all I’m asking for. I simply don’t share your faith in the training and professionalism of underlings who actually have no legal authority to overrule the president.

  51. I spent all day at the craft fair I used to do visiting with my friends.  I get back about 1/2 hr ago and read this stuff.  Christ…   what crap is going on now.  Sounds like SFB is throwing a temper tantrum!

  52. 2 Peter 3:3-7 (NIV) states: ‘First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, ‘where is this “coming” he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.’ But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and with water. By water also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.’

  53. Isaiah 66:15-16King James Version (KJV)

15 For, behold, the Lord will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

16 For by fire and by his sword will the Lord plead with all flesh: and the slain of the Lord shall be many.

    King James Version (KJV)

He’s like Lebowski…….he just absentmindedly repeats parts of some random phrase he’s heard recently.

Wonder where he might have heard something like that…..

    Oh

  54. Holy Barbecue !

“… the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men” – niv

  55. “If the pres were somehow confirmed to be suffering from Alzheimer’s, I wonder how much of his base he would lose……” – Mr Sturgeone

By morning they would have forgotten.

  56. First off Trump’s base has no problem with crazy. As they say in the real estate world, it is not a problem it is a feature. It is why trump will never be impeached.

Second WWIII, or the final solution. We really rely on some one in China wanting to sell us cheap stuff more than they want to start WWIII. It is why Amazon and Mrs Jack,  may save us all. She just bought a $200 dollar hat for $35 shipped from China

So many of Trumps problems could be solved by having 2 brain cells rub together.

He can hire the smartest people in the world yet…..

    Jack

  57. The lady who works in the cubical on the other side of Mrsjack is an a total don’t want to hear it trump supporter. Her mother is going into assisted living (will need medicaid), her boyfriend who has ALS , Parkinson or some degenerative disease is already on Medicaid. but hey they all believe trump is the best ever.

Ya wanna get rid of Trump?

    Think about it.

    Jack

  58. mean while the city held a election with 3 initiatives on the ballot that were a waste of time. Don’t know how  much money down the drain. but probably enough to pay for the codes inspector we haven’t had for 6 months.

    Jack

  59. If trump were a man, he’d challenge king kim to the pistols at dawn solution in the Beijing games arena. Pay per view of course.

The emperor commodus fought in the arena. Is trump a lesser man than a moldy roman emperor ?

  60. from last years fiesta de ninos. It is a new year and Saturday I will have new pictures. Last year you all helped this year we were able to write it into a neighborhood grant, next year we are trying to hook the church into the net work of folks that collect school supplies. Education and sustainability are like a mantra around here.

    Jack

  61. exrep

Trumps real problem is he wouldn’t make a pimple on a real bad man’s ass. He doesn’t even know how to pretend.
