GOP operative portrayed former Gen. Flynn as an ally in an effort to find personal emails deleted by Hillary Clinton. Read More

Significance? If substantiated, Flynn’s involvement proof of Russia/Trump camp collusion.

wapo: Mika Brzezinski on Trump’s Twitter attack: ‘It does worry me about the country’

    [….]

Brzezinski and Scarborough also wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post about Trump’s tweets.

“President Trump launched personal attacks against us Thursday, but our concerns about his unmoored behavior go far beyond the personal,” they wrote. “America’s leaders and allies are asking themselves yet again whether this man is fit to be president. We have our doubts, but we are both certain that the man is not mentally equipped to continue watching our show, ‘Morning Joe.’”

    [….]

In their op-ed, the MSNBC co-hosts wrote:

We have known Mr. Trump for more than a decade and have some fond memories of our relationship together. But that hasn’t stopped us from criticizing his abhorrent behavior or worrying about his fitness. During the height of the 2016 presidential campaign, Joe often listened to Trump staff members complain about their boss’s erratic behavior, including a top campaign official who was as close to the Republican candidate as anyone.

We, too, have noticed a change in his behavior over the past few years. Perhaps that is why we were neither shocked nor insulted by the president’s personal attack. The Donald Trump we knew before the campaign was a flawed character but one who still seemed capable of keeping his worst instincts in check.

  2. repost from last thread by xr in the wee small hours of this morning:

Who Murdered mike w. smith, republican Spy ?

Someone silenced 81 year old Chicago republican operative peter smith when he began to brag about his russian espionage work for mike flynn & the trump campaign to a wall street journal reporter.

Did murdoch finger smith ? Did flynn make the hit himself ? Did trump order it done ? Those are the biggest questions of the day.

(Frankly, this is an enquirer/wnd/zerohedge style story, except it draws attention to russian collusion rather than to the squirrel atop the refrigerator)

from mediaite: ‘It’s Blackmail’: Joe and Mika Reveal How White House Threatened Them With National Enquirer

On today’s riveting “interview” with the co-hosts — who delayed a planned vacation so that they could address this story — Joe and Mika went into great detail about this remarkably unsettling episode, which if true, raises remarkably significant questions about the White House’s relationship with a free press.
The National Enquirer is the premier title of American Media, Inc., which is based in Boca Raton, fairly close Trump’s Mar-a-lago estate, and is owned by David Pecker, who is a close ally to the president.
If true, the details shared by Scarborough of how senior administration officials alleged pressure on both he and Mika, and how National Enquirer reporters hounded Brzenzki’s family members (children!) should send shivers down the spine of anyone who believes in a society that can openly criticize elected officials without fear of reproach.

  5.

    Dear Mika,

This is everything you need to know about responding to personal attacks.

Remember when you reach for the jugular do it with a smile on your face.

  6. Patd

Bill Maher once said that Trump’s operating motto was, “What would a dick do?”.  Well now we know.  He gets a pecker to do it.

  7. At what point do Flynn’s actions cease to be collusion or association, and become treason? There can’t be that much gray area in the law. He either needs to sing or face charges.

  8. Jamie,

My thoughts exactly. Pecker, what an appropriate name for the owner of the national enquirer. Pecker indeed, no wonder it is often referred to as junk.

  9. Jace, here’s the Constitution’s definition, seems applicable but needs two witnesses:

“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.”

  10. Craig,

Thanks for the information. My guess is that witnesses are in damn short supply.

  11. ack ack ack

I could care less about Mika and Joe — intellectual lightweights who blow whichever way the wind blows

  12. KC, point taken.  What is interesting is how two intellectual lightweights (assuming your premise) have so easily made the president of the united states look like the a$$hole he is.

  13. kgc, I didn’t post those stories to praise, support or show an iota of interest in them.  it is important to pay attention to what they have reported though about the wh/enquirer threats of expose unless one bows down to Donnie and about his mental deterioration in just a year’s time  observed by those close, his cabinet and so-called friends .

  14. pogo & kgc, and if those two can so easily incite him to take stupid actions, what do you think others like vlad and lil kim can make him do?

  15. Methinks that SFB knows that Mueller and team are getting some gold nuggets.  It looks like whatever shred of sanity SFB has left is starting to unravel.  IMO, patd is correct… the fact that SFB would try to blackmail cable pundits is very telling of his mental state.

The bigger story however,IMO, is the story that Pogo brought up last night about the rescinding of terror war powers for the President.  Obviously, Congress really is nervous that SFB might start a war in order to distract us all from the “Russian thing”.  Nice to know that they can still do their jobs…  both parties.

  16. and looky looky what was just published by the twit’s bff pecker and another dick

  17. The mayor of crazytown has been on so many sides he looks like an octagon

Today he is criticizing  Pussy Grabber tomorrow he will be licking his butt

the past is prolog.   The media sucks  NBC made this an all day story because it was about one of their own

Can’t say I’m sorry to see the Nanny Greta go – she sucks

  18. the guardian: Donald Trump threatened with subpoena over Comey ‘tapes’

Bipartisan leaders on House intelligence committee demand White House clarify whether there are recordings of Trump’s meeting with fired FBI director

    [….]

A letter Thursday from Republican congressman Mike Conaway of Texas, who is leading the Russia investigation, and Democratic congressman Adam Schiff of California says Trump’s Twitter statement “stops short of clarifying” whether the White House has any tapes or documents.

Conaway and Schiff said in a statement that the letter makes clear that should the White House not respond fully, “the committee will consider using compulsory process to ensure a satisfactory response”.

Also Thursday, Democrats on two House committees asked the justice department’s inspector general to investigate whether attorney general Jeff Sessions violated his recusal from the Russia investigation by taking part in Comey’s May firing.

House oversight and judiciary committee Democrats urged inspector general Michael Horowitz to examine “a lapse in judgment”.

Sessions insisted in an appearance before the Senate intelligence committee this month that he had not violated his decision in March to recuse himself from any investigation related to inquiries involving Trump’s 2016 campaign. During his testimony, Sessions said it would be “absurd” to suggest a recusal from a single investigation would render him unable to manage leadership of the FBI.

  19. bid & sjwny, on this june the last and before we forget how good song and dance can be, for your enjoyment

June” Super Dance Sequence (full version)

  20. patd – I never thought Greta VS was a fit for MSNBC-republican version.  When she started out on CNN I would occasionally watch, but faux was where she blossomed.  It is interesting that she sold her house in Annapolis, one of the historic things which suck all your money, recently.  That was before she did the MSNBC shift.  Maybe a shift as a WH reporter for Huffpost will be next?

  21. bbronc, greta would fit right in as handmaiden to kellyanne…. as a legal counsel/press spokesperson.

interesting about the Annapolis house, selling a home is a big indication of something big happening in one’s life.

  22. I’m not sure why they really put GVS in the lineup in the first place.  I always found her (when I watched) center right.  MSNBC has been the #1 ranked network for a while in 15 to 65 age range (or something around there).

Her ratings were horrible and she was pulling down Chris Matthews ratings since he has the show that follows her (and I’m sure that didn’t help).  A lot of people were tuning GVS out and sliding down to CNN – and then staying there for a while.

It was a bad management decision all around – I’m surprised they fixed it so quick.

  23. She’s old she should retire before she turns into Liz Trotta
    She defended Roger Ailes
She just wants to be one of the boyz

  24. Greta’s appeal from my perspective is that she was a practicing lawyer and applied her training to things that arose on her show.  I agree that she appears to be center right, but she and her husband were movers and shakers in the plaintiffs’ lobby when it was the trial lawyers’ association, which generally tended to be viewed as a tool of the left, at least by the defense bar and the RW.  Not sure where she really stands politically. There’s a place for her somewhere but 6:00 p.m. on MSNBC wasn’t it.  I don’t really see her as a RW tool for use by this WH, but I think I’ve been wrong before.

  25. Great American PAC…dictator messaging machine.  The noose continues to tighten around the trumpence junta and like the pawn storm attack on our democrazy?  The response to stifle the truth with fibs and fabrications will intensify on all fronts across all of our institutions.   I sure hope the feds are able to nail down the financial and cyber connections and put the entire trump family and friends behind bars.

Meanwhile, speaking of dickheads and the news media…chaffetz, knowing he was headed to Faux News, sat-in on high level confidential sessions in order to get a higher salary from Faux.  His parting gift?  congressman should get a $2500. stipend.  Yes, fellow Americans are denied a pittance of food stamps, shelter while trump continues to wine and dine congress at record numbers…keggers, expensive wine and killer WH food.  AND these guys need more money??  They have a salary, health insurance and lobbyist food.  The repugs continue to be the party of greed and stinginess…while the dems are just a bunch of old jackasses!

  26. BW, why not just build a dorm – pattern it after military barracks for enlisted guys or bunk space in ships.  Give them as good as they give people who actually do something for the country.

  27. It is difficult for me to pity the NY cafe media society.  IMHO, they were all lucky to have jobs for so long.  But, Mika’s father died a month ago and trump is such scum to hit her hard at such a vulnerable time for her.

  28. The Cess Pool is either the world’s greatest actress or is right of center.

I found her annoying scolding to be off-putting.  She can report the news, she can have an opinion but she is not the judge and frankly, her family motto should be “often wrong never in doubt”

She started out on the OJ trial I always thought the guy she was paired with was better. Another example of my failure to understand the American public

  29. I’m ok with center right and you’re right KC, that’s what she appears to be.

She and her husband got into a bit of a jam years back for soliciting clients in WV – not sure how that got resolved.

  30. There is a certain undeserved smugness that is very annoying –

Maybe Tucker Carlson will let her be his sidekick

  31. So now PG SFB sez repeal now, replace later.  Dipshit.  After 7 years of “working” on it pugs have a POS that even they can’t agree to when does the dumbass think this later will be?  (Hint – never)

  32. KC, I caught an interview with each of them this week – I don’t think so.  We’re a Medicaid power user state and both of them know that angry poor and old people won’t vote for them.

  33. Local resistance to the trumpence junta…attack on our monuments addressed by the good citizens of Las Cruces, Dona Ana county, NM.    Many of us have been working hard writing letters, attending meetings and calling elected officials.  The city was the first to respond positively for keeping the monuments, but the county repugs muddied the waters with their continued paranoid delusion that the Organ Mts. are rife with illegal aliens.   A fight ensued among county commissioners, but the good fight won.

  34. Remember the Time magazine cover with the melting SFB…  it’s more appropriate now than it was back then…

  35. I’m so confused about the 4th this year….the resort towns are all having their celebration tomorrow

but the 4th isn’t until Tues when every one will be exhausted

  36. bw & rr, your use of fsb and sfb began to confuse me so to differentiate, the rusky fsb (the former kgb) are hereafter considered the f**king sons of b*tches.  as for the other, it helps to think sh*t for brains; however, referring to him as the twit just sounds so right to me at the moment.

  37. KC, here’s why I don’t think Joe and Shelley will be crossing over and voting for the healthcare insanity bill.  The map tells the story.

  38. But, Mika’s father died a month ago and trump is such scum to hit her hard at such a vulnerable time for her.

    – Ms Wino

And then, she happily announced her engagement.

  39. First lady Melania Trump’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said, “As the first lady has stated publicly in the past, when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder.”

makes me wonder if there isn’t a cry for help hidden in that quote.  bet ivana would agree given her past but sealed accusations re former life with you know who.

  40. patd…   SFB is BlueBronc’s concoction….   said it stands for Shit For Brains or Stupid Fat Bastard…   whichever floats your boat.

KGC…  Rick and I are going to a celebration at the family camp on Monday the 3rd.  We have resisted all other invites to parties this weekend.  At our age…  you nailed it…  we’d be exhausted by the time Tuesday came around.

  41. keith, there you go again getting our hopes up

The fallout from Donald Trump’s admission that the Russians meddled in our election.

  42. I am having trouble finding info on the final days and death of peter w. smith. Why so much difficulty finding news on such an in-your-face style of political animal ? What I REEEAALLY want right now is the coroner’s report.

Perhaps one of the geniuses here on the Trail could find some clues. Anyone willing ?

  43. I’d almost feel better if Trump was a drinker. Writing his crazy tweets sober is scarier.

  44. The sad thing about narcissistic personality disorder: Only cure is years of psychotherapy. 4 years, even 8, probably not enough.

  45. Don’t know her real name to give credit, but this creation by “Alt Fed Employee” on Twitter is too good not to share.  She describes herself as:  “Veteran. Lover of facts, intelligence, science, and humor. Speaks sarcasm fluently. Kind to children and animals. Hates Trump”

  46. Mad Donald might just be our craziest monarch since fundamentally insane King George III. Let’s do it again.

  47. Gretavan could probably get a new hit show if OJ gets paroled and murders someone……

  48. Trump has Alzheimer’s…..it’s all pretty simple, really.

And there ain’t no therapy going to help that.

  49. Pat,

Could a russian court find the actual murderers of Nemtsov guilty ? I wonder.

Maybe they’ll get a day in jail, a big raise, and the Order of lenin.

  50. “Trump attacks back 10 x harder”
Harder, my ass….the Mika tweet was pure high school schmuckery……

  51. xr, smith, having been a thorn in the clintons’ side for years of pseudo scandal mongering according to cnn, for all we know might have done himself in and left a note that Hillary did it.

  53. Who were the russian hackers with whom peter w. smith colluded for disgraced general mike flynn and the corrupt trump campaign ?

Did they make their quarters here in the US ? Has the trump junta conveniently deported them ? Did they suddenly decamp to russia after smith bragged about his collusion ?

  54. Patd

Michael Kidd was an amazing choreographer.  His stage & film credits read like a best of the best list for musicals.  My favorites are Bandwagon & Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.  Umpteen years ago I wrote a poem that featured all the musicals of my childhood that closed with

Let’s put on our silk stockings and Porter, you
ought to pay attention to rhyme and time that
doesn’t come again when funny girls were
whirls of life, because we all were kidds

  55. Pat, I wouldn’t put it past one of trump’s pro-life nra pals to do in swiftboater smith, but I doubt that the cad would do it himself. He was enjoying the role of classroom naughty boy too much to off himself and end his role as Captain Hook – or was he merely Smee th ?

  56. that little todo about wh tit for tat (apologize to big daddykins or we do enquirer expose) could wind up with someone charged with felony.

btw,  joe tweeted saying he has evidence (“I have texts from your top aides and phone  records”) in response to the twit’s tweet today calling him a liar about enquirer threat.

what we may have here also is an impeachy offense, abuse of office say?

  57. XR

It is a rather long poem.  That was only the last verse, but it did feature mainly impressions of late 40s & 50s.  Berkely was a shade before the era.  I did manage to squeeze in Andy Hardy & Judy Garland

  58. It would be screamingly funny if the orange toad were impeached for the mika kerfuffle rather than his seditious relationship with the kremlin.

We’d still have to investigate the russkie bit too, including what pence knew and when he knew it.

  59. Jamie, I was just kidding about Berkeley. He was waaaaay before your time. The dancing in Brides for Brothers was astonishing. Even as a kid (1954) who sneered at song and dance movies, I was impressed.

  60. Speaking of squirrel, now SFB is saying that the era of strategic patience with North Korea is over. Now just WTF does that mean?

  61. It would be screamingly funny if the orange toad were impeached for the mika kerfuffle rather than his seditious relationship with the kremlin.  xr

    yes indeed.

  62. PBS now – Washington Week In Review covering healthcare.   ABC, NBC, CBS should cover this more.

  63. Who introduced whom – Did Trump start it all  who introduced Flynn to the Russians

It’s got to be Mani-pedi and Stone

  64. blueINdallas,

I like PBS News Coverage/Shows too. They respect viewers.

    patd,

    Thanks for the video.

  65. David Brooks:  The silver lining from Trump’s attack on Morning Joe is he was refreshingly appalled. His outrage was refreshed. How many times will we have our outrage refreshed before Trump goes?

  66. EProf, like the number of licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop we may never know.
