Canada Steps Up. Bring It On.

In a move I suspect will expand, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Chrystia Freeland, asserts that her nation shall step into the breach of our TV president’s abdication of US global leadership and respect:

“The fact that our friend and ally has come to question the very worth of its mantle of global leadership puts in sharper focus the need for the rest of us to set our own clear and sovereign course,” Freeland told the House of Commons last week. “To rely solely on the U.S. security umbrella would make us a client state.”

“We will make the necessary investments in our military, to not only address years of neglect and underfunding, but also to place the Canadian Armed Forces on a new footing – with new equipment, training, resources and consistent and predictable funding.”

  1. “We will make the necessary investments in our military”

hope that doesn’t mean they’ll now under invest in their civilian programs like we have to the determent of infrastructure, education and well-being of the citizenry.

  2. wapo:

Preet Bharara, a prominent former U.S. attorney ousted by President Trump, said Sunday that he reported to the Justice Department efforts by the president to “cultivate some kind of relationship” with him, describing phone calls from Trump that made him increasingly uncomfortable.

In his first sit-down interview since his March removal, Bharara said he reported one of the phone calls to the chief of staff for Attorney General Jeff Sessions because it made him uneasy. He said he was dismissed from the important prosecutor’s job in Manhattan only 22 hours after he finally refused to take a call from the president.

The recollections add a new dimension to the intensifying debate over Trump’s firing of former FBI director James B. Comey, who was removed from his job after private conversations with Trump that he viewed as inappropriate.

    [….]

Bharara told host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week” that Comey’s account “felt a little bit like deja vu.”

“And I’m not the FBI director,” he said, “but I was the chief federal law enforcement officer in Manhattan with jurisdiction over a lot of things including, you know, business interests and other things in New York.”

In the wake of a divisive election, the UK will begin the process of leaving the European Union. John Oliver and an intergalactic space lord propose a plan.

  4. Pat, that’s a remarkable story from Bharara. Wonder if Trump has tried to call judges. He obviously has no respect for independence of judiciary (I don’t buy the argument he doesn’t understand it).

  5. These whole Comey and, now Bharara things must be resolved quickly. Send them to a District Court away from D.C.. Maybe Federal Judge Gonzalo Curiel could fit the matters into his docket. (How do you say docket in Mexican?)

  9. HOUSEKEEPING: The maker of comment editing plugin is no longer supporting or updating it, so I am testing newer ones to see what works best. Bear with me, gonna be some trial and error with this.

  10. Bink, you’ve got the concept wrong. The flight deck will be formed from Sphagnum Peat Moss. It will be powered by multiple Evinrude inboard/outboards.

Not that anyone cares, but my vote would be for public testimony. And I have a few thoughts on some questions to ask the Attorney General. twitter.com/mkraju/status/…

  12. With the WH in fire ’em all mode, expect more tell all stories to come out. The floater is not the smartest one around, and the smart staff are not going to tell him how to run things.

This running the government like a fiefdom is not working out too well. The funny part is only one third of the government is involved. The other two-thirds are not that happy to lube up and take what the fat one wants to do.

  13. BB, see my Housekeeping note above — I am updating the comment editing features today, they’ll be back soon.

    Testing new tools now.

  15. So far there is not one thing that Pussy G has done that I agree with

So Melanoma is still going to focus on bullying — I hope she remembers that charity begins at home

  16. That’s a pair of torpedoes launched against Leviathan. Holding breath.

  17. bink & flatus, they’ll be serving things like these one can only by in canada at mess. properly washed down with Molson, eh?

Beavertails — deep-fried dough with sweet toppings like chocolate spread, bananas, and cinnamon. In recent years, Beavertails has expanded to the Middle East with plans to expand to Colorado and Tokyo. But for now it remains a mainly Canadian guilty pleasure.

  18. Pogo, it’s on Lake George, you can get there by canoe. It will involve some lengthy portaging–leave the heavy things at home. Most direct way is to paddle north; work your way over to the St Lawrence; get off at Lake Champlain; go down to Lake George; paddle around until you find The Olde Log Inn.

  19. And what better time to disrupt the grid than the middle of summer or winter.  Kill  us off?  Extortion to roll back sanctions & get back their surveillance houses?

In light of this news, flatus needs to bring us all generators, bottled water, trail mix, and, iodized salt.

I hope No-regard wants a public hearing to protect himself from the Russkies when he intentionally spills the truth on Trumpsky.  You’ve gotta have a dream…

  20. Interrupt the grid yourself solar, wind, hydro.   There have been great strides in wind especially for urban and suburban folks

  21. Maple syrup will rain from the skies like hell-fire.

    YUM!!!  🙂

    ps…  I’ll bring the french toast…

  22. So Melanoma is in the Whitehouse and holding hands with Pussy Grabber –  I wonder what he gave her.

    ps

She needs a stylist her wardrobe picks are either trashy or  quasi military

  23. HOUSEKEEPING: I have just updated a couple of our security tools and there is an outside chance the innocent could be blocked. If that happens to you, please let me know right away: help@craigcrawford.com

Have done a lot of maintenance and upgrading today, so also please let me know if you experience any glitches or slowdowns.

  24. Sure would appreciate a thread post for tomorrow from someone. I’m worn out from navigating tech weeds today, no brain cells left for thinking content. Have successfully (I hope) dealt with an expired comment editing plugin plus various denial of service attacks from Turkey, Pakistan, China, France and even Ireland. Webmastering is a bitch.
