  1. TRUMP-HEAVY COUNTY TURNOUT WATCH

Tonight we’re tracking four Trump-heavy counties—Mecosta County, Michigan; Butler County, Ohio; Lexington County, South Carolina; and Tarrant County, Texas—because they have a history of early turnout reporting, giving us a way to compare this year’s participation with past elections.

So far, the available numbers show no threatening surge over past years.

Butler County, Ohio, reached 55.73% turnout by 5:34 p.m., above its full 2022 turnout of 50.9% but below its 2024 total of 72.7%.

In Mecosta County, Michigan, Big Rapids City Hall reported more than 400 voters by 4:15 p.m. In 2024, the City of Big Rapids reported 585 voters by 2:30 p.m., including absentee voters.

Ballot shortage in Linwood causes some Kansans to leave without voting

their Linwood polling place had run out of paper ballots.

Although Schlag and her husband were able to wait in line for the single electronic voting machine, her son had to leave for a class at the University of Kansas, she said.

“Even if it was unintentional and it was a lack of preparedness, it still feels like voter suppression, if people aren’t able to vote,” she said.

  5. Arrggh. I switch over to my antenna to pick up the local NBC channel for the last news/sports/whatever/weather/happy talk of the day. I get NBC talking heads, I have no clue who they are, covering the election.

Jeez, all I want is local . . . oh, wait . . . politics is the local business. Go Blue, smaunch red!

We can be happy the Gay guy who is speaker of the House is heading down to 4 Seasons Landscaping to run a lawnmower.

  6. My prediction for KY is that it will do what it’s done before. I hope I’m right for the Gov. and wrong for the rest.

And if things hold up in Florida, the redistricting done to gain five seats (R) in the House will be for nothing.

  12. Hey all! I napped tonight. LOL! The Detroit Free Press hasn’t reported much on the Michigan races tonight. But, what they have reported is a lot of Democrats flipping seats nationally tonight. Apparently, some guy at work (who was trying to convince a friend of mine to vote Republican today) looked at the results at lunchtime and he was quite dismayed. I voted after work and the place I vote at said it had been very busy all day long.

  21. My birthday is tomorrow. I would like to thank America for the early birthday present tonight. I am heading to Chicago on Thursday morning. A few days of post-birthday fun. Hoping to find the museum of broadcasting while I am there. I couldn’t find it back in August! It has a late night tv exhibit going on right now that features Johnny Carson as well as having the late show set from Stephen Colbert.

  25. Most of the hardcore Republican areas around here are staying Republican, as expected. Bill Huizenga is behind, but it’s very close. Other Republican candidates have not been as successful tonight. Even if justices are supposed to be “non-partial”, one candidate seemed to be clearly favored by conservatives here. In tonight’s election, he is clearly in 3rd place. The top 2 are elected. So, that is good news. The Democratic candidates seem to be ahead in all the major races here tonight. Governor, Senator, Congress, Attorney General etc…

  27. What anon said at 12:05.

This is one of those nights. I’m a patient man. It reminds me that 50 years ago I was asked by a couple of fresh-faced University of Alabama undergraduates to become the faculty sponsor for the University Young Democrats. I was all of 26 years old or so at that point and of course I accepted. Within that next year, I spent half a day ushering Claude Pepper (D. FL) and his delightfully wonderful wife from one event to another in Tuscaloosa, Alabama until at about 9:30 at night when he asked whether I knew someplace we could go to get a glass of wine. And it’s a little foggy at this point, but it was either during that trip or the trip before that I met one young Joe Biden at a University of Alabama Young Democrats function as well. Claude Pepper and his wife were the essence of gentility. Joe Biden was a Cassius type. As I introduced myself and he shook my hand he was looking to the next person to talk to. Needless to say my opinion of him at that time was not the same as my opinion of him six years ago. As I said, I’m a patient man. When Bill Clinton came along in 1992 I was overjoyed at what I saw happening to the country as he took the Office. Same thing when Barack Obama took the Office. And low and behold, same thing happened when Joe Biden took the Office. Again, I’m a patient man. I have that same feeling tonight even though it is only a midterm election. I realize that politics ebbs and flows, after all, in a country that’s roughly divided 50-50 between Democrats and the idiots on the right, that will happen, but at this point, a blue wave has swept over this country. I’m able to say I have an optimism I haven’t had in years. I’m trying to remember a time when I’ve been more proud to be a Democrat. I’m coming up empty.

I know it likely won’t matter even if they do impeach, but it will make me feel like the Dems haven’t completely lain down and just decided to let Drumpf break law after law after law with zero consequences.
