Waiting For Mueller (Again)

Here we go. Another Friday waiting for Bob Mueller to drop more bombs, sentencing documents on Cohen and Manafort that could offer more clues about where the probe is going.

It’s a good bet Trump knows more than we do right now about what’s to come. He’s blowing up twitter again with insane rants blasting Mueller.

Meanwhile former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson vents about Trump’s criminal intent: “It violates the law.” (Politico)

  1. Jobs report is 25% below projections. Plus the Dow has continued its fall. Down 450 so far today (1250 for the week). Don’t expect to hear SFB crowing about the roaring economy today.

  2. .@SecretService Bush Protective Division final notification: “Timberwolf’s Detail concluded at 0600 … with no incidents to report at the George Bush Presidential Library – College Station, Texas. God speed Former President George H.W. Bush – you will be missed by all of us.”

  3. On this 77th commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor, there will be no USS Arizona survivors attending the memorial. There are 5 left, and all now find travelling too difficult to manage.

There are fewer than 2,500 veterans of the Pearl Harbor attacks still alive today. It is important to remember this history, if for no other reason than to honor the service and sacrifice of those who gave a piece of themselves to the defense of their country and their fellow citizens. We must never take these events for granted. We must not relegate them to some past that has no relevance to our present.

    Simply, we must remember…

…the 1,177 men who went down with USS Arizona.

…the additional 1,158 service personnel killed during the attack.

…the 68 civilians killed during the attack.

…the 1,178 military personnel and civilians wounded during the attack.

…the rescue and medical personnel, and others manning small harbor craft, who braved oil slicks and searing heat to pull victims to safety and render first aid and comfort.

…the numerous and varied acts of heroism above and beyond the call, such as Ship’s Cook Third Class Dorie Miller USN, serving on USS West Virginia, who carried many of his wounded shipmates to safety and attempted to rescue his mortally wounded Captain. Then he manned a .50 caliber Browning anti-aircraft gun for which he had never been trained. He earned the Navy Cross for his actions.

…the crew of USS Nevada, who managed to get their battleship underway during the attack and tried to steam out of harm’s way, ultimately running aground in order to avoid being sunk in the middle of the harbor.

…the pilots and service crews who were able to get a few P-40s and P36s off the ground from Haleiwa airfield. These planes engaged enemy aircraft and shot down as many as 11, losing 4 of their own.

…US Navy and civilian salvage crews, who worked for more than 20,000 hours on over 5,000 dives. Their efforts helped put 11 ships back into service from 1942 through 1944. They were also able to re-float 4 sunken battleships, which were ultimately returned to service and saw action against Japan later in the war.

…all veterans of the Pearl Harbor attack.

To all who performed above and beyond the call in the early morning hours of 7 December 1941, and in the subsequent days leading to 15 August 1945 when Japan surrendered and World War II came to an end, I offer my deepest respect and gratitude.

I wish those who remain peace in the twilight of their lives. They earned it.

  4. travis, sadly so soon do we forget.  yours is the first mention of dec. 7th I’ve seen this morning whether online or in newspaper.   thank you for remembering and reminding us to remember.

  5. kgc, have also wondered about BiD’s whereabouts.  she hasn’t been on the trail since there was a bad fire in dallas and bad weather there.  hope it’s just that she’s busy with the holidays.  miss her too.

  6. Travis…   thanks for that post.  Visiting the USS Arizona site in Pearl Harbor was one of the most powerful things I’ve ever done.  Seeing that ship lying in water made the reality of it all hit me.  The navy does a great job in the solemnity of the visit and honoring all those fallen sailors.

  7. My guess is that SFB knows that Mueller has him in the cross hairs, hence the tweet storm. I guess in Trump’s world a tweet storm is usually a prelude to a shit storm.

Does Rudy realize what a pathetic caricature he has become. Not former prosecutor or mayor but a village idiot and not a very useful one at that.

  8. Sorry that Deval Patrick took himself out of consideration. I think that he had/has the chops. Wish that both Warren and Sanders would do the same.

  9. Ready, shoot, aim!

New York (CNN Business)Wall Street does not like the mixed messages coming out of the White House on trade.

The Dow fell 400 points, or 1.6%, on Friday afternoon. The Nasdaq lost 2%, while the S&P 500 retreated 1.5%.

Stocks had been trading higher earlier Friday, but the market turned sharply lower following conflicting messages coming out of the Trump administration about trade.

While White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow sounded an optimistic note about China talks on CNBC, trade adviser Peter Navarro was simultaneously warning on CNN of higher tariffs if issues aren’t resolved during the 90-day negotiating period.

Wasn’t there a comedy mob movie – The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight?

  10. Gang,

These remembrances are important to me. I would have been a Marine, but injuries prevented it. So I honor those who serve as best I can. When I blogged regularly, I often wrote about military history and dates to commemorate.

After being down in spirit this week, it helped my soul to post my words in tribute today.

I know there are veterans who visit here regularly. To you I always extend my heartfelt gratitude and respect for your service.

  11. craig, thought you’d like that cartoon of twit the tariff man.

Look up in the sky, its a Bird… its a Plane… No Its Tariff man! Fixer of expedient ballots, more powerfully loco and able to heap tall tales in a single bound. Who disguised as potus, wild mannerless reprobate of a major metropolis,  fights his unending battle against truth, justice, and the American way.

  12. G!D bless you Mr TravisC.

I visited the Arizona twice. I came away profoundly moved and saddened. It must never happen again. That is one reason that I find trump’s secret business arrangements and criminal political deals with our potential enemies to be so utterly vile.

  13. Tariffs are taxes. Memorize this, and repeat it every time you hear a repunk bitch about his taxes.

  14. Seems as though kudlow fell off the wagon again. By now, he and julieannie must have livers like coarse nylon netting.

  15. The guy who dropped the investigation of 2016 NC9 voter fraud was promoted under trump, according to Rachel Maddow.

  16. Craig,

My guess is that it is not if Manafort lied but how many times and to whom.

If he was protecting Trump he did a poor job of it. Between Manafort and Flynn Trump could be in serious jeopardy and he knows it.

  17. hey, jace, you were right. dems made it to 40 in house elections (and one more to go if when the NC race is rerun)

  18. In honor of Mueller and Friday, along with Mueller’s grand juries working away this afternoon, a Perfect Manhattan (a Manhattan is made with RYE whiskey, not Bourbon). We are now counting down minutes and seconds until all hell breaks loose in the WH and  over in the fox building. Plus the added “drama” of will Kelly leave or will he stay, a traditional monthly diversion tactic from what the man-child is doing as the walls close in.

Cannot eat popcorn until I get new “teeth”, so I will gum on a cherry instead when the reports and filings are finally in court.
