    “What I’m trying to focus on is doing as much of God’s work as possible right now, and if that leads to the end times, okay,” he said. “And if that leads to, you know, us building a better world that thrives and survives for a very long time after I’m gone, that’s great, too.”
    “I just think you’ve got to kind of try to have an attitude of the end times may be coming,” Vance added. “In fact, they are coming, it’s just a question of whether they’re coming thousands of years down the road or a few months down the road, and we’ve got a lot of work to do right now.”

    An anonymous federal official warns that a rushed USPS portal tied to Trump’s mail-voting order could reject large batches of ballots before the midterms.
    An anonymous federal official warned in a disclosure to Congress that a rushed and insufficiently tested U.S. Postal Service system could prevent large numbers of Americans from receiving mail ballots this fall if courts approve President Donald Trump’s plans for the midterm elections.
    The disclosure, made public Tuesday morning by Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut), says the Postal Service has adopted an internal “zero-percent failure policy” under which an entire batch of ballots would be rejected if a single barcode sampled by a postal employee could not be scanned or matched with information submitted through a new online portal. A batch could contain tens of thousands of ballots, according to the disclosure.
    “The Postal Service has designed a system to disenfranchise millions of Americans,” Blumenthal said in a call with reporters.
    A Postal Service spokesperson in a statement said the portal would provide “a simple, secure, and efficient way” to submit voter lists but did not address the whistleblower’s claims about a zero-failure policy.
    “Regardless of political party or perspective, we share a common goal: ensuring that Americans can have confidence that their election mail will be handled securely and delivered reliably,” the Postal Service spokesperson said.
    White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis said the Postal Service’s plans would be straightforward to implement.
    “Under President Trump, the federal government is working to ensure safe, transparent and honest elections,” she said in a statement.
    The fight over the Postal Service’s plans is rooted in an executive order from Trump that seeks to overhaul mail voting. A judge has blocked those plans for now, but the administration is seeking to reinstate them ahead of this fall’s midterm elections.
    If the administration gets its way, state and local election officials would have to upload lists of voters to an online portal the Postal Service is designing. Postal employees would refuse to deliver to anyone who is not on those lists.
    The unnamed official alleged that the portal was assembled under constantly changing requirements and with as few as four working days available for customer testing before a planned launch.
    If the Postal Service’s plans go into effect, election officials will confront new challenges when they mail ballots in large batches. Postal workers plan to scan barcodes on a sample of envelopes to ensure the voters appear on the state’s list, according to the whistleblower. If they find even one mismatch, they will refuse to accept the entire batch, the whistleblower said. That means a single mismatch in a batch of 10,000 ballots would prevent the 9,999 other ballots from being mailed until discrepancies were resolved.
    “As designed, the process is entirely unforgiving,” the disclosure said. “It could delay ballots by the thousands in repeated verification cycles — and thus prevent states from mailing enormous numbers of ballots.”
    State and local officials often mail ballots in large batches to manage them as effectively as possible. Some states send ballots to all registered voters, and they must place millions of ballots in the mail in a short period.
    Many election officials have expressed alarm about the Postal Service’s overall plans under Trump’s executive order because they don’t believe they have been adequately thought through for a fast-approaching election.
    Among the issues they worry about are potential mismatches for mundane reasons. States constantly update their voter rolls, and the lists they send to the Postal Service could be out of date within minutes as new voters register and existing ones update their registrations because they’ve moved.
    The Postal Service has said states can update their voter lists, but election officials have expressed concerns that the new online portal won’t be able to handle a steady stream of updates.
    The whistleblower disclosure could add to those concerns and bolster legal challenges to the executive order and postal rules.
    The disclosure, dated Sunday, was submitted to Blumenthal by Whistleblower Aid on behalf of an anonymous federal official it represents.
    The organization described the unnamed whistleblower as a “federal official with direct knowledge of potentially catastrophic problems in the development” of the Postal Service’s plans and said the official feared reprisal by administration officials if identified.
    Blumenthal sent the disclosure late Monday to Postmaster General David Steiner and asked him to provide documents about the Postal Service’s plans.
    Blumenthal is the ranking Democrat on the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations for the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
    States and voting rights groups sued over the executive order soon after Trump signed it in March. The Supreme Court last week allowed work on the executive order to proceed for the moment, but days later a lower court blocked it.
    The administration is seeking to get it reinstated but faces timing challenges. Officials in North Carolina are preparing to start mailing ballots on Friday under a state law requiring them to send them to those who ask for them starting 60 days before an election. Other states are set to start mailing their ballots in the following days and weeks.
    The whistleblower said the Postal Service stopped working on the portal around June 25 after a federal judge blocked implementation of Trump’s directive, then resumed work around July 29 while that order remained in effect.
    The disclosure said work continued after the judge issued a new order on Thursday barring the Postal Service for 14 days from taking further preparatory steps that would apply to all states for the November election. In a brief ruling Monday, the judge said the Postal Service could work on the portal for states that want to voluntarily use it.
    Postal officials planned to launch the portal on Tuesday, according to the whistleblower. But state election officials and those who work closely with them said they had not been granted access to it by late in the day.

  5. The mystery of the sign out on almost all sites is closer to being solved. I had NordVPN for a few years. I did not pay to renew it this year. One of the applications that was in the package was NordPass, a password saver, which I did not use, but it kept showing up all the time anyway.

    I am now thinking that when NordVPN timed out on 1SEP26, and it removed associated applications including NordPass, it signed out any passwords it had scarfed up over the years. For some reason not all of them, but a majority. I will think about the passwords that were not signed out, but only when I am working, and I am retired so working is not often.

  6. USPS…. I have a 40 year old boat that has graphics along the waterline on each side, and after 40 years the blue wave part of the graphics (no, really) has faded. I located a decal printer in South Florida who could make a replacement for the faded waves and ordered them. On August 7 the decals were completed, packaged up and mailed to me via USPS Priority Mail – you know, 2-3 day delivery? Tracking told me on Aug. 9 that it had arrived in the Distribution Center and was “on the way”. Two weeks later it was still there and still “on the way”. I contacted the vendor, started a tracking case w/ USPS, and heard back from the vendor who would reprint and ship new decals. On Friday 8/28 I got a notification that the decals shipped on 8/7 were delivered. Never heard a word from USPS about the tracking case I opened. Three weeks for a 3 day delivery. This is who Dumbass has tasked to screen and deliver ballots to voters and back to the states in the upcoming midterms? Never mind that the software system they have designed is designed to reject up to thousands of mail-in ballots if one ballot in a group can’t be scanned and verified. You’d almost think the system is intentionally designed to fail.

    Yiannopoulos was an early supporter of Trump before he first became US president in 2016. He is a former editor of Breitbart News and later worked to help the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, explore a presidential run in 2024.

    Yiannopoulos on Tuesday appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored, a YouTube show presented by Piers Morgan, the British broadcaster and media personality. Yiannopoulos, 41, described the experience in the US as “humiliating and disorientating”, “physically degrading” and “frightening”.

    He also said that he was “ashamed” of his previous support for Donald Trump, who has pursued an agenda of mass deportation throughout his second presidency.

    “I didn’t really understand the physical reality of how institutionalized the brutality is in America,” he said. “It’s like everybody that’s arrested is an MS-13 gang member, and it hurts a lot more than it looks like on television.”

    In a statement last week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the parent agency of ICE, said Yiannopoulos had “legally entered the country” in May 2019, but “chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws”.

    The homeland security department said Yiannopoulos was issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge on 22 July “after failing to show up for his immigration hearing”.

    In the Piers Morgan interview, Yiannopoulos disputed the government’s account and denied previously overstaying a visa. He said he is married to an American, and claimed he held a green card that he was “renewing on a two-year basis”.

    Iran threatens tougher strategy after US strikes kill 4 at wedding

    Iran threatened to take a tougher line in its war with the United States on Wednesday after the heaviest exchanges in weeks left at least 19 Iranians dead, including four at a wedding — an incident slammed as a “war crime” by Tehran.

    “You will soon see that Iran’s new strategy on the battlefield, in diplomacy and in confronting the economic blockade will shatter your foundations,” Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei wrote on X.

    The federal government let U.S. citizen Brian José Morales García return to Texas on Sunday after deporting him to Mexico following a traffic stop in Central Texas.

    The routine traffic stop resulted in the 25-year-old’s removal from the country despite his status as a U.S. citizen. The episode highlights what many Hispanic Texans, immigrant rights advocates and immigration lawyers have warned about for years: When local police who are untrained in the nuances of immigration law join forces with the feds, it can lead to U.S. citizens being hassled, detained and even deported.

    “Am I supposed to just accept that if I get pulled over again, it’ll be the same thing?” Morales said in an interview with The Texas Tribune. “Will it be the same treatment?”

    The Department of Homeland Security, which has said in previous statements its agents did not arrest a citizen and had instead determined Morales was “illegally in the U.S.,” did not respond to requests for comment Sunday and Monday, after a spokesperson initially said the agency was working on a statement.

    Morales has said repeatedly he was born in Denver but grew up in Mexico. After authorities stopped the vehicle he was in, he said that he offered to show them his Social Security card and birth certificate, which were at his home in Austin. Officers from various agencies denied the offer, he said.

    Morales, who doesn’t speak English and has dual citizenship in Mexico, was held for five days until he signed paperwork to be deported, fearing that he would be detained for months.

    He said he decided to return to the U.S. last year to work and also get to know the country he was born in. He previously told the Tribune that U.S. Customs and Border Protection let him enter the country in El Paso when he showed them his birth certificate.

    Morales’ aspirations to support his family are shared by many immigrants, who contribute millions of dollars to Texas’ economy through taxes, paying rent and buying goods and services. Roughly 11% of the nation’s undocumented immigrants live in Texas — an estimated 1.7 million people.

    The ubiquity of officers enlisted to enforce immigration law has stoked fear. U.S. citizens — unlike immigrants, legal or not — are not legally required to carry their American passports. But because of the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration crackdown, and the heightened likelihood of a busted taillight leading to an immigration check, American citizens of color carry documentation out of fear of being racially profiled.

    As the collaboration between Texas police and ICE has increased, DPS has sought to shield certain records from reaching the public eye.

    The state agency released basic information about the incident, such as its exact location and a case synopsis submitted by an officer, and argued that the rest could be withheld under state law that allows police and prosecutors to keep documents under wraps if their release would interfere with the investigation of a crime.

    It is not clear what crime is being investigated. The initial traffic stop was for a window tint check. Still, the attorney general’s office ruled in July that DPS may withhold the information.

    Earlier this year, The Florida Trib reported, ICE told police in Florida and Texas that they needed federal permission to release any information “obtained or developed” under a 287(g) agreement, arguing the records were “under the control of ICE.”

    Hospitals thought losing hundreds of billions in Medicaid funding through GOP-led cuts last year was bad. But coming regulations from the Trump administration could slash their funding even deeper than Congress did.

    Two recently proposed rules from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services would cost hospitals hundreds of billions of dollars more, hospital executives told POLITICO. The rules, which target taxes states use to get more federal Medicaid dollars — and which yield higher payments to hospitals — have prompted hospitals to launch another major lobbying blitz after record spending last year.

    If the rules are finalized and they lose hundreds of billions on top of Congress’ funding cuts, hospitals say they’ll be forced to reduce services, lay off workers, consolidate operations or shutter entirely. Some systems are already doing so, telling POLITICO they’ve cut staff, ended contracts and slashed hospital beds in response to predicted losses.

    States fund Medicaid by putting in some of their own money, which the federal government then matches. Congress cracked down on a practice in which states boost their federal matching funds by taxing hospitals to inflate the state portion of the Medicaid budget and then kick the money back to the hospitals in the form of higher payments.

    *Hospitals should not be “for profit” and they should not spend money to lobby Congress so they can increase profits. They cut services and staff so the C-suite still make huge salaries, and so shareholders will be happy.

  30. Final numbers in the actual Alaska voting just certified showing Democrat Peltola at 49.54% and Dan Sullivan at 41.40%. Even combining Sullivan with the other Republican candidates leaves the GOP field several points behind Peltola. In a state that normally leans Republican, Peltola nearly won an all-party primary outright—strong evidence that the toss-up rating is more than warranted. And as in the rest of the country, gas prices are going up again. Moving toward $6 in Alaska.

    “The only reason why we would be at polling places is if there is a threat to that polling place or we’re serving a warrant on someone that we have been actively tracking down,” Mullin said. “ICE’s job is immigration, customs enforcement. That’s their job … if we’re serving a warrant we will be where we need to be.”

    *Since when tf has DHS/ICE been “serving a warrant” en masse? They are kidnapping folks at work sites, at bars…a polling place sounds like a good place for them to look for anyone who looks a certain way.

  46. patD – Pastor Hamilton won the Dem primary; he decided it wasn’t fair to run as an Independent and take votes from a Dem since he isn’t one.

    He waited until Talarico won to jump in. He is lowkey and has a Republican voting record, so that plays well with Kansas voters.

    Since he’s a Methodist, he doesn’t preach the Christo-Zionist stuff about certain conditions being necessary for the second coming of Christ (like JD is spewing at the moment),nor is the so-called rapture part of Methodist doctrine. His focus is on helping folks.

    His opponent, Dr. Senator Roger Marshall, is not well-liked in these parts. He walked out of a townhall last year, and I’m not sure if he’s held one since. He claimed that what were clearly angry, old farmers were Dem plants.

    Today, Marshall’s office sent a text blast with a pic of him standing in a barren field with a younger farm couple, overshadowed by a pivot irrigation system (no water to be seen), shaking the hand of the lady farmer (to make him look like he cares about women, I guess), with the following message:
    “It’s Doc Marshall.
    For too long, farmers and ranchers carried the weight alone, and we lost too many to suicide.
    Not anymore. I’m working to bring mental health resources straight to rural Kansas and remind every farm family: it’s okay to ask for help.You’re not alone out there – I’m fighting to make sure you never have to be.”

    IN THE LATEST escalation of the Trump administration’s war on the left, the U.S. government’s designation of a popular antifascist webhosting provider as a terror group could shutter a swath of radical websites in the U.S.

    Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Wednesday that they were targeting the Italy-based A/I Collective with terror sanctions. Federal law gives the Treasury Department broad discretion to apply the terror label to foreign groups.

    The U.S. government’s move could have ripple effects far beyond Italy.

    A wide array of anarchist, antifascist, and far-left groups in the U.S. and abroad use the privacy-minded collective’s offerings, including an anonymous email service and its popular noblogs.org blogging platform.

    The practice of designating an internet platform and service provider as a terror group — rather than those pursuing violence themselves — has “huge” implications for the future free speech on the internet, warned Jillian York, the director of international freedom of expression at the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

    Groups using the A/I Collective’s services range from an anarchist radio show in Asheville, North Carolina; to a blog documenting attacks on anti-abortion “crisis pregnancy centers” under the Jane’s Revenge moniker; to the Seattle Anarchist Bookfair. The bookfair warned Wednesday that its website “will most likely go down soon because of US sanctions on Noblogs.”

    It is unclear how many groups in the U.S. could be forced offline, or to shift their providers, because of the terror designation. The A/I Collective said it could not provide an estimate of U.S-based groups that it hosts, because it does not ask its users for any private or personal information.

    Nor was it immediately clear whether simply hosting a site using the collective’s services would be illegal if no money changes hands. Still, the collective says that it relies heavily on voluntary, suggested donations, and many U.S.-based groups appear to be scrambling for alternative hosting providers.

    Officials in Texas’ third most populous county voted on Tuesday to reduce polling locations by 92.

    The move will see Tarrant County’s voting sites reduced from 316 in the 2022 midterm elections to 224 for this year’s elections.

    Tuesday’s vote took place during a meeting of the five-member Commissioner’s Court, which is the governing body of the county.

    It came amid public outcry from dozens of residents opposing the measure during public meetings over the past month.
