It was well received at its premiere and has remained as one of the most prominent and highly regarded violin concertos in history. It holds a central place in violin repertoire and has developed a reputation as an essential concerto for all aspiring concert violinists to master. 

Normally I plan my Sunday selection to calm the nerves after a rough Saturday night on the town. But today’s selection is bold passion, with a bit of frolic thrown in, from both the composer and the soloist , Itzhak Perlman. It doesn’t get any better.

    In a Truth Social post on Saturday, the president laid out three alternative names to replace AI: Super Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence, and Supreme Intelligence.
    “Many people think that the words ‘Artificial Intelligence’ are inaccurate, and very ineloquent, relative to AI, or Artificial Intelligence. A far more elegant and accurate description of this new phenomena would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or, Extreme Intelligence (EI) or, Supreme Intelligence (SI). This is a Poll, and I would appreciate everybody voting! Which is the best name for this ever growing ‘Revolution?’” Trump wrote.
    The term “artificial intelligence” originated in 1955 and was introduced by Stanford professor John McCarthy. He described it as “the science and engineering of making intelligent machines.”
    It is not clear how Trump’s proposed name changes would be applied to a whole industry.
    Trump regularly uses AI for posts he makes on Truth Social.
    Trump’s question on how exactly to refer to AI comes amid growing concerns inside and outside of the industry.
    Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warned in a lengthy statement last week that companies must slow down the pace of AI and there needs to be more oversight, or rogue AI agents could “take over” the entire internet within 12 months. Tech leaders like Elon Musk and Sam Altman backed Amodei’s call for a pace slowdown.
    The CEO’s warning followed an Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon going viral for resigning and laying out his fears about the industry in public statements. Coxon believes the technology is advancing so rapidly that it could “kill us all” within 10 years.
    Trump has dismissed these concerns, repeatedly declaring that the U.S. must beat countries like China on the AI front. He’s called doomsday fears about the technology a “hoax.”
    The president made a similar statement on Saturday, following up his poll question with a rant on AI being the next “revolution.”

    Donald Trump woke up this morning and decided his 250-foot gold-trimmed vanity monument at Arlington Cemetery needed a rebrand. Taking to Truth Social, the president announced he is graciously granting a request from the military to turn his “Triumphal Arch” into a “top grade Military Complex” packed with drones and snipers on the roof. (He’s obviously mindful the veterans against this are gaining momentum.)

    Let’s be clear: this isn’t a national security necessity. It’s a gold-plated grift to bypass Congress and build a monument to himself on sacred ground. Federal agencies already admit this looming monstrosity will ruin historic sightlines. With Trump doubling down on turning a solemn entryway into a militarized tourist trap, the veterans groups fighting this—like VoteVets and Home of the Brave—are going to have to double down too.

  34. Craig – The thing about telehealth is that folks don’t even have internet out here. If not for my phone with unlimited data, I wouldn’t either. There are many who have cheaper phone plans. They drive to the library to use their computer, or sit in their cars and use their WiFi signal, and they don’t rive to town for no reason. The folks in DC are very disconnected from the way folks are living out here. And, of course, folks avoid the doctor because of the cost.

    Germany just sent America a warning: Angry voters don’t move neatly left or right. They punish whoever is in charge.
    German voters abandoned the establishment in both directions, fueling the far-right AfD and the Left. Republicans should take note. They control Washington now. If Americans are still angry about prices, housing and shrinking household finances by November, the midterms may become less a choice between two parties than a hunt for whoever gets blamed.

    These are not fun times for centrist politicians anywhere.

    Over 20% of the population is over 65, the working age population has more health issues, a shortage of trained workers, lack of local education opportunities.

    Counter-acting all of that is the myths these people keep telling themselves. The Jeffersonian myth of the superior morality of the farmer over the industrial worker. It is what keeps them going. They accept a lot to live in “Gods country”.
    Also fewer “farmers” ever plow their fields, they now set in AC offices and hire it done. Ag has gone big business and is under the thumb of big corporations that often control everything from the birth of the animal to it’s slaughter with all the work being done by contract farmers.     Kansas: The first high-quality independent post-primary poll confirms the race is genuinely competitive. Emerson College finds Democrat Adam Hamilton at 45%, Republican Roger Marshall at 43% and Libertarian David Graham at 4%, with 8% undecided. The two-point margin falls within the poll’s ±3.6-point range.

    This is stronger evidence than the earlier partisan polling. Hamilton leads independents 42%–27%, while Marshall’s unfavorable rating stands at 48%. Kansas remains Republican-favored, but it can no longer be dismissed as merely theoretical.

    AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and wounded a man on Sunday afternoon in the Texas’ capital of Austin, local officials said.

    The man was in serious but stable condition at a hospital after being shot once in the torso on Austin’s north side, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said at a news conference with the city’s mayor and other officials present.

    The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, didn’t immediately respond to requests for details.

    Austin police officers were not involved in the operation or the shooting, Davis told reporters.

    Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said he wants the city’s police department to be involved in the investigation so it can provide “clear, third-party eyes” in the process. Watson said he does not think it would be appropriate for ICE to conduct the investigation on its own.

    Davis said there were not many facts she could provide so soon after the shooting, but added the department’s special investigation unit was at the scene.

    A dark blue Toyota Corolla was parked under an overpass with damage to its passenger-side door and what appeared to be bullet holes, local media reported.

    A large law enforcement presence was at the scene, along with a crowd of onlookers.

    U.S. Rep. Greg Casar, a Democrat representing parts of Austin, called for transparency as the shooting is investigated.

    “The horror has come to our city: ICE has shot a person in Austin this morning,” Casar wrote on X. “As the facts emerge, I am demanding a full, independent investigation, immediate release of the body camera footage, and accountability for any ICE officer who broke the law.”

    In July, an ICE officer fatally shot 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, of Houston, after federal agents driving unmarked vehicles pursued him while he was taking his construction crew to a job site.

    Also in July, 25-year-old Johan Sebastián, a Colombian man, was shot by an ICE officer in Maine. The officer is an Army veteran who has struggled with serious mental health issues since early childhood and never should have been given a badge and gun to patrol American streets, several of his close relatives told The Associated Press.

    The shootings come amid a Trump administration push to carry out its mass deportations agenda. While the administration is no longer cracking down on individual cities, arrests are still occurring.

    The administration’s enforcement efforts were widely condemned last winter after the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minnesota.

    Just saw an over-the-top attack ad on Hamilton. The last ad was a culture wars ad, and I guess it didn’t work. This one goes after him for having multiple homes and brings up his ethics complaint from April; something about using something as an in-kind donation but not reporting it. I can find nothing on it after April.

    Marshall’s staff attempted to control the conversation by passing around notecards and pens to filter out and pre-screen questions. When attendees raised their concerns about DOGE cuts, employment, cuts to veterans’ benefits, and more, Marshall walked out.

    He continued to ignore constituents’ requests for meetings (some of it is comical/see list in link) and, as I have also noted, calls go straight to voicemail. Occasionally, I will get a return email or letter from his office; never does it properly and honestly address the issue. Marshall is an absolute POS, and he both hates and is terrified of voters.
