  1. Konzert für Trompete?

jace, is this your sneaky way of preparing us for jan 20th?  must say the grand sounds from this golden horn playing haydn  most likely will not be matched by the glaring blare and dissonance of hatred that day.

  2. the hill:

Sen. Rand PaulRand PaulRand Paul teases ObamaCare replacement billSunday shows preview:href=”http://thehill.com/people/rand-paul” rel=”nofollow”>MORE (R-Ky.) indicated Saturday night that he would unveil a bill to replace ObamaCare in the coming week.

Paul, who has been an advocate of replacing ObamaCare at the same time of its repeal, tweeted a photo of a bill titled the “Obamacare Replacement Act.”

“Coming this week: THE Obamacare replacement bill. Done drafting the bill & will be discussing on CNN Sunday AM and all week next week!” Paul tweeted.

  3. Patd

If it had been the FBI announcement of “another look” at the emails on Weiner’s computer, it might not have had enough effect to topple Hillary, but it was the follow up.  CNN & MSNBC had the story on at least 15 min out of every hour.  National Enquirer and Breitbart went into full time mud slinging with as much salacious detail on Weiner they could associate with the “Muslim woman close to Hillary”.  It could be that Hillary should have come out roaring instead of doing the whole “We go high” bit as it would have been a time for justified righteous anger defending Abedin as well as herself.  Of course then there would have been another spate of “Ash Tray throwing Hillary on the warpath”.

Whatever you think of her, no politician has every been treated with such unrelenting hatred, fake stories, and slanted garbage that no man has ever had to face and that includes her husband getting impeached for a BJ in the Oval Office.  Speaking of which where does collusion with Russia rank on the scale of impeachable offenses?

  4. KGC, we’lol need all the asses we can get on board with the Coming of the Genital Grabber.

  5. well then I hope Trump grabs a big handful of Dave’s

I love Noregard and I have shared it with others who think is perfect

  6. Treason will do, Jamie, or at least high crime. If any proof turns up of his involvement or direction in Russian election meddling, they’ll have to impeach him.

  7. Ah a fresh sunny morning.  The rains are moved on and it almost looks like spring. The grasses weeds are green making it look like I have a lawn.  And it looks like a good week to have a parade.  Old saying, to which I have subscribed to in the past, “if you are being run out of town, make it look like you are leading the parade”.

Each inauguration the key question is “will the new president get out of the car and walk the crowd”?  Yeah right, sure they do.  Pennsylvania Avenue can be a long walk in January.  It would be funny if POTUS got out and the limo left him behind.  Can you picture Mr. Peebody scrambling to catch up to his ride?

Long time ago our family had a 1957 D.C. inaugural license plate, Ike’s second.  I don’t know where it ended up. My great-uncle worked at the Capitol so we had some pretty good access to things.  Nothing like a ten year old with her own subscription to the Congressional Record.  Which she dutifully read on receipt.

The long range forecast for the Friday weather is changing from mid-fifties to rain and forties.  Great.  That will make things real pleasant for those who spend the entire day outside, roaming around the masses.  It is starting to make me hope I end up with a shelter to run or at least sitting around the command center telling people “sorry, lunch is still not here”.

  8. I’ve turned to The Guardian and Telegraph for the “From Russia With Pee” story. It involves a former MI6 spy and they’re all over it. David Corn’s follow-up to his Oct. 31 The Nation  on that is chilling. It’s right out of Ian Fleming, if you have KellyAnne Condom substituting for Rosa Klebb. And the Condom’s forked tongue substituting for Rosa’s poisoned blade in her Dr. Martens.

Pence of course, is assassin Red Grant, although with less empathy.

And Trump can go by “P”!

Who will star in the movie?

  9. Conspiracy with a hostile foreign power really puts a break-in of the DNC and lying about sex into impeachment perspective, doesn’t it?

    Come on, Free Press, c’mon!

  10. “Who will star in the movie?”

mrdd, depends on how the main character will be depicted.   a temperamental toddler who dons a big man suit (a la paunchy pouty iron-man with orange pompadour costume) is how I picture him.

  11. will that movie our mrdd described show the defilement of a bed once slept in by Obama in the presidential suite of Moscow’s Ritz-Carlton hotel and perhaps a similar activity or complete overhaul of the wh private quarters?
btw, just how extensive will be the redo of the white house for the new incumbent? gold desk in oval office?

  12. Patd,

It was purely coincidental, no teasing intended, just the simple joy and beauty of Haydn, whose music always makes total sense.

“Requim for a Democracy” would be appropriate for the 20th. I just can’t find a work by that title anywhere, no matter how hard I look.

  13. The Holman rule, named after the congressman who first proposed it in 1876, was nixed by Congress in 1983. The rule, now reinstated for 2017, gives any lawmaker the power to offer amendments to appropriations bills that could, legislatively, fire any federal employee or cut their pay down to $1 dollar, if the lawmaker so chooses.

    dead cat still breathing

  14. We’ve come a long way from; “the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.” To , ‘the only thing we have to offer is fear itself.’

Shame on US for allowing it to happen.

  15. Streep is good.

But what about Forest Whitaker to play Trump? “The Last King of Scotland” and all that.

What about KellyAnne? I’m thinking Willem Dafoe.

Coen Brothers to write and direct. That leaves John Goodman for Bannon.

Bill Murray in there somewhere. Please.

    So many possibilities.

Who will play the former MI6 spy Christopher Steele?

Can we please use the phrase “You’re fired!” somewhere in there?

  16. Jace, our strength is our weakness here. Putin saw it. Political jujitsu.

    But we’ll surprise Vlad.

  17. Mrdoodlesdog,

I hope you are correct. I think Trump has givenVlad a chair at the table and a key to the executive washroom. Don’t think that he will give them up easily.

  18. A quick read of today’s newspapers around the world is great reading.  To say nobody trusts the floater is an understatement.  If I did not know anything except what I read it would be about a petulant child in man’s body.  Doubts about business acumen but acknowledgment that he sells his name not his skills.

And, very importantly from the European world, he really is Mr. Peebody as he was had by Putin if not complicit in his actions to which the videos will be seen soon.  I do not think anyone has the power to keep those from being seen.  And from what Penthouse magazine says, there are multiples out there.  Nothing if they are from the same day or multiple events, my guess is multiple events.

From my own thoughts, Friday night will be his last night thinking he is king.  Saturday he has to deal with getting Congress to move appointees, budgets, and most a lot of stuff called governing.  Will any of the antagonists of the world act up to see how he reacts?  I am guessing yes.  How will he react?  I am guessing he has all the scenarios ready in his head.  Too bad those are all wrong. Will he be stuck thinking that he knows everything?  Probably until he is ejected from office by the Republicans.

  19. Host,

You denied and mocked the influence of racist attitudes on the general electorate and the resulting election, and then post a picture of the “Black Lady Liberty” quarter at the top of your site.  This is the kind of inconsistency that drives me nuts.

  20. Filming yourself getting pissed on is never a good idea.  That’s like, “Getting Pissed On 101”.

  21. “Them celebrities need to keep their fucking mouths shut and stay outta politics!”

*elects a mouthy celebrity to nation’s highest office*

  22. Jace, simply a marvelous choice for a sparkling Carolinas Sunday morning. I remember playing it on my bugle when I was in junior high school. (what a bald-faced lie that was) Here is another piece played by the same artist, this time on the cornet that he stuffs in his overnight bag:

  23. who cares what self abuse he was/is into.  it’s the disrespect of obama he is alleged to have displayed and that is a national embarrassment.  if true, what will be the fate of like places in the white house?  his germ phobia may be used as a cover for extensive overhauls.  likely he will not live there but prefer his hotel when in d.c….. the little time that he is in d.c.   imo we will see more pressers, speeches, photo ops everywhere else in the world except at the people’s house.   maybe avanka and family will live there and he’ll just come to state dinners.
same goes for air force one. he’ll use his plane and put pence & press pool on ours until he has it fumigated to his specifications.

  24. wapo:

A top aide to President-elect Donald Trump urged President Obama on Sunday to tell fellow Democrats to stop questioning Trump’s legitimacy — and rejected comparisons to Trump’s own well-publicized doubts about Obama’s eligibility to serve.

The remarks from incoming White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus came after a prominent lawmaker and civil rights activist, Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), said Trump was not a “legitimate president” and more than a dozen fellow Democratic lawmakers announced that they would not attend Trump’s inauguration.

    [….]

Many Democrats have bristled at the GOP calls to quietly accept Trump’s presidency, pointing to the president-elect’s prominent role in promoting the false “birther” movement to question whether Obama was born in the United States. Trump refused to unequivocally accept Obama’s status as a natural-born U.S. citizen until September — less than two months before Election Day — and has never apologized for his role in spreading doubts.

“What [Democrats] are right about is to talk about the racist past of Donald Trump,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Sunday, also on ABC. “We all remember that Trump was one of the leaders of so-called ‘birther’ movement trying to delegitimize the presidency of our first African American president, Barack Obama, which is an outrage.”

Priebus said Sunday that questions about Obama’s birth have “been resolved for at least two years in Donald Trump’s mind” and drew a distinction between questioning Obama’s citizenship and accepting the results of the elections that he won.

“This Week” host George Stephanopoulos corrected Priebus, noting that Trump continued to raise questions about Obama’s eligibility to serve well into his own presidential campaign.

  25. Happy Martin Luther King Day

a good time for reflection on the problems caused by racial discrimination and people  who only deal in cliches

  26. Me too
    The Pack is Back
and in the second game …we are going with the Steelers

  27. KC,  that 4th quarter was worth watching.  Gotta agree with you about the Steelers likely winning the late game. They’re looking a lot better than the Chiefs so far. The Chiefs need better receivers.

  28. Well, me too. I wasn’t thrilled with the exciting 4th quarter a week ago in the national championship game, but in general, yep.

  29. Gotta hand it to the Chiefs defense in the red zone. Four trips to Pittsburgh into the red zone and no touchdowns to show for it. And that defense is been on the field 20 minutes of the first half.

  30. Pogo, I wouldn’t blame Obama for resisting a pardon. Her folks, at the very least, misrepresented their actions and intentions to his White House, regarding handling of emails and Clinton foundation contacts. Not sure they deserve him taking the hit for a pardon.

  31. 150 years after he Emancipation Proclamation, people of color are still second-class citizens in this country, which is about to inaugurate a President and that ran on an openly-xenophobic platform PROMISING to institute a domestic-security policy of racial-profiling, whose surrogates spoke in thinly-veiled racist code, and whose rank-and-file didn’t even bother trying to hide their racist sentiments.  Happy MLK day?

  32. Well, Poobah,  I figure he’s more beholden to Hillary than to Chaffetz  or Sessions. And he can’t think much of Comey. I’d issue the pardon and not give a damn about about what hit?  Pardons are his to grant.

  33. poobah & pogo, as I understand it some (when asked if they want it) do not opt for pardons as it is viewed to be kind of an admission of guilt. can’t remember who they were, but there have been those who have turned it down.   it’s a   damned if you do damned if you don’t thingy.
