So Long Joe, Don’t Be A Stranger

Awarding Joe Biden the Presidential Medal of Freedom today, Barack Obama summed it up:

(AP) President Barack Obama is paying tribute to Vice President Joe Biden, praising him as an “extraordinary man with an extraordinary career in public service.”

Speaking at the White House Thursday with Biden by his side, Obama says the tribute will give the Internet one last chance to joke about the “bromance” the two share.

Obama says his choice of Biden was the “best possible choice, not just for me, but for the American people.”

Obama is listing the influences in Biden’s life, from the nuns who taught him in grade school, to his Senate colleagues, to his parents, and commending the “Biden heart.”

Noting that Biden’s career is “nowhere close to finished,” Obama says his vice president will go on to have an impact domestically and internationally.

  1. It just went through my mind that Joe Biden has been droning on forever, now, with no commercial interruptions. That courtesy isn’t extended to Trump. Why? He hasn’t earned it. Asshole

    (last comment of previous thread)

  2. What a lovely thing for President Obama to do for Joe Biden, and for the rest of us. We need to remember this in the time to come.

  3. It wasn’t just the Medal of  Freedom; it was the Medal with Distinction. All that filigree around the edges is extra, extra special and unusual.

  4. Sturg, the sun is out of sight and the temp is bouncing off 70. On the way to USC to watch their women tackle Georgia. Our star of stars has a sprained ankle, so…

  5. It’s wonderful to see people in political life who genuinely like each other.

  6. The onliest best boss I ever had is out there in a Denver hospice preparing to give up the ghost…….he was from east Texas and grew up hardscrabble po’ in hard times and went on to wind up with several Denver nightclubs, a pottery shop, car lots, real estate, and so forth…….Patsi knew him too, one of those things we had in common……..I wish she were here to share a story or two…..but anyway I wound up being piano player in his joints for a couple of years……..he always called me Mr Jones after that time I’d told him that I’d played with Big Al……..he liked Big Al.

  7. After I recovered from watching that clip of President Obama bestowing that honor upon our lovely Vice President, the thought occurred: how much do you think Trump will charge for one of those? And will he give one to himself?

in the event he does sell a few, and he’s caught, would that constitute a crime? Or would that just be another unethical, underhanded presidential “first”? The goon is setting precedents right and left, but somehow getting away with everything.

    Talk about a teflon Don.

  8. Sturgone – share the name?  I am from the Denver area. Craig can set up email exchange if you do not want to do public.  Due to my life I was active in Denver things from 1976 to 2010 and met many of the leaders.

What a day.  70ish and beautiful.  Nice time to refill pond, which self-drained when an ice trough built up last week causing all the water to flow out.

Just noticed dog is eating cardboard.  Displacement activity with a rawhide stick works good.

Ag dept sent out notice that career SES’ers would be running the show after 1-20.  I guess there are not a lot of billionaire farmers around who want to be Ag secretary, so filling that secretary position is not all that hot.

  9. Archie …….owned Ollie’s Round-up on Sheraton ( Sheridan?)

2nd largest dance floor in Denver until the Four Seasons burnt to the ground,…….after that it was largest………

  10. I’m sure that I told you in 2015 that the tough-talking deadbeat is a bed wetter.

    I feel vindicated.

  11. His case is even worse than I thought. He can’t even wet a bed without a servant to help him out.

  12. I’ve wondered about the deadbeat’s blinding smile for a long time. Here’s a translation of Catullus’s poetic letter to an obnoxious Spaniard named Egnatius, who also sported a blinding smile. I hope Professor Sturgeone approves this translation.

The Smiling Spaniard – A Literal English Translation Original LatinLine

Egnatius, because he has bright white teeth,
always smiles: If someone comes to the defendant’s
bench, when the speaker arouses weeping,
he grins; If there is weeping at the funeral pyre of
a dutiful son, when the bereaved mother laments her only son,
he grins. Whatever it is, wherever he is,
whatever he is doing, he grins: he has this disease,
neither elegant, as I think, nor refined.
Therefore I must warn you, my good Egnatius.
If you were a city man or a Sabine or a Tiburnan
or a thrifty Umbrian or a fat Etruscan
or a swarthy or toothy Lanuvian or
a Transpadane, to touch on my own people as well,
or anyone you like who cleans his teeth with clean water,
I still should not want you to smile on all occasions:
for nothing is more silly than a silly smile.
Now you are a Celtiberian: in the land of Celtiberia,
whatever each man has urinated, with this he is accustomed
in the morning to rub his teeth and gums until they are red,
so that the more polished those teeth of yours are,
the more urine they proclaim you to have drunk.

    Egnatius, quod candidos habet dentes,
renidet usque quaque. Si ad rei ventum est
    subsellium, cum orator excitat fletum,
renidet ille; si ad pii rogum fili
lugetur, orba cum flet unicum mater,
renidet ille. Quidquid est, ubicumque est,
quodcumque agit, renidet: hunc habet morbum,
neque elegantem, ut arbitror, neque urbanum.
Quare monendum est te mihi, bone Egnati.
Si urbanus esses aut Sabinus aut Tiburs
aut pinguis Vmber aut obesus Etruscus
    aut Lanuvinus ater atque dentatus
aut Transpadanus, ut meos quoque attingam,
aut quilubet, qui puriter lavit dentes,
tamen renidere usque quaque te nollem:
nam risu inepto res ineptior nulla est.
Nunc Celtiber es: Celtiberia in terra,
quod quisque minxit, hoc sibi solet mane
    dentem atque russam defricare gingivam,
ut quo iste vester expolitior dens est,
hoc te amplius bibisse praedicet loti.

  13. Well, I’m no perfessor, even though I’da made a goodern……..So I reckon I can live with the translate.

  14. Good grief – I just went to Buzzfeed (I am sure you can find it if you want to) and took the “when your period will start quiz”  oh grumble.  Now let me tell you that for many reasons that is not possible at my age.  Quiz done – it says it will start within three days.  That means I am living in near perpetual PMS.  And all I wanted to do was read the gross and nasty report about the floater.

  15. For some reason X-Arrican…….I cannot transport that phrase into google translate, so ill just have to guess what it means…….

  16. Ohhhhh, Patsi…….gimme dat laugh again and that dig at Archie, and Kenny Brent……..

  17. It’s either, Hippokleides says, “Ooo, Frosties !”

    Hippokleides don’t give a hoot.

  18. wapo:

The Obama administration, in one of its final foreign policy initiatives, on Thursday ended the special status accorded migrants fleeing Cuba who, upon reaching this country, were automatically allowed to stay.

Cubans are still covered by the 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act, which grants them permanent residency — a green card — after they have been here for one year. Until now, they were given temporary “parole” status while waiting for that year to pass. That will no longer be granted, making the act moot for most by denying them entry on arrival.

Effective immediately, President Obama said in a statement, “Cuban nationals who attempt to enter the United States illegally . . . will be subject to removal,” treating them “the same way we treat migrants from other countries.”

  19. Holy Havanna — thanks, patd, for the link.  Although listening to the national news one might think the border is rife with hungry Mexicans with drugs and sex on their minds continually crossing the border is actually a figment of the repub imagination.   The influx the past two years has been from Cubans and the resulting issues are finally resolved.   That is tightening the border with policy, not more fencing.  We don’t need a bigger wall here, just smarter policies.

  20. Watching the Obamacare repeal with great interest…and here we see one of our greatest sayings reveal the process…don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.    If costs are increasing, look at the insurance and medical conglomerates, not the baby.  We need to stop medical bankruptcy in this country…where costs for health care and procedures are subject to predatory collection agencies.   Someone with insurance can lose everything, but their residence because of medical costs.  This policy of sending sick and old humans to collections for medical bills the insurance ducks-out of paying.?  That is the real sickness in this country.  If the repugs would replace with a single payer?  I might vote for them next time.   Insurance is for chattel…houses, autos, etc. not flesh and blood.

  21. One more comment and it is about comey…trump will get rid of him, no full tenure.   In watching old movies, like the ones about a tri-state crime family, they always get rid of the patsy (not related to our beloved Patsi).   trump has been messing with lockheed martin to get back at comey and I found it interesting comey was the one delivering the wee-weeleaks memo to trump.

  22. Joe Biden — One of the Poorest Men in Public Service

Although I never supported him for anything, I think his dedication to public service and the fact he never used it to line his pockets speaks volumes

  23. Fake President Trump

from Richard Wolffe  (why can’t msnbc give him a show instead of Greta Von Cess Pool who seems to be auditioning to return to Fox) The Guardian
They also have no sense of irony or, apparently, reality. The press conference opened with Sean Spicer, the incoming press secretary, condemning the media coverage of Trump’s compromised relationship with Russia as “frankly outrageous and highly irresponsible”.
It seems churlish to have to recall this tweet from Trump in the closing phase of the recent election: “Did Crooked Hillary help disgusting (check out sex tape and past) Alicia M become a US citizen so she could use her in the debate?”
This kind of thing makes it hard for the new White House to pass the laugh test, never mind the smell test. It’s heartwarming to know that the president-elect is so concerned about how fake news can destroy real people. If only he had the self-awareness and self-discipline to live by his own words.

  24. Frank Bruni gets the Condom just right

But he needs practice: I heard nothing at the altitude of Conway’s claim this week that the Democrats demanding more financial information from Trump’s nominees were “political peeping Toms.” What pith. What alliteration. What a year we’re in for.

ps NBC luvs the condom they let her lie lie lie
Tweety and Rachel Maddow let her walk all over them – Tweety who cares but Rachel Maddows behavior is weird

  25. Pretty guitar there, sturg.  musta been fun laying that body up with all those curves and such..

  26. Of prurient interest, Penthouse magazine has a line out that it has three claims of the one million dollar offer for anyone providing real video of Mr. Peebody getting a wee bit kinky.  This should be interesting if it is online before next Friday.

Can Mr. Peebody survive long enough to become president?  It is time to visit a couple of the sites offering odds, just to check it out of course.

  27. so everyone in the loop has seen the dossier for months…why shouldn’t the American public be let in on the joke

  28. I guess I am hopelessly naive:
—While in public office, I never solicited nor accepted a gratuity, bribe, free whatever no matter how artfully wrapped. I didn’t knowingly associate with others who did.—I never charged an alcoholic beverage or extravagant meal, when away on government business, to my government credit card–a fact that drove my opponents crazy.
—I was not rich by any means. I used the small salary I was provided to make ends meet.
—I was not alone in my set of ethics.

What prompted this comment was the remark up above, “Joe Biden — One of the Poorest Men in Public Service”. Actually, Joe was pretty well compensated, by government standards, for his personally rewarding public service. The suggestion that others routinely depend on graft to cover their standards of living is, IMO, the exception rather than the rule. To suggest otherwise insults many honorable men and women.

  29. trump isn’t above the law, he is below it.   he is enjoying his new play toy of stock manipulations to punish his enemies.  I listened with great horror yesterday at ben carson (that is my usual reaction to him) during the confirmation hearings.  HUD…the people’s real estate broker and banker will have its feet sliced at carson’s ax to chop debt.  (Cleverly call out by menendez as not skilled scapulae work expected from a neurosurgeon.)  Ironic that he is hired by the best real estate developer in the universe and he didn’t understand the difference between an FHA down payment and a VA funding fee.   Expect evictions and foreclosures at the lowest level of citizens.

  30. flatus…good thoughts…the fact the Biden needed financial help from Obama proves it is not how much you make, but what you do with your money.   I think the takeover by trump just aggravates the fact that many public servants are now seen as crooked.

  31. Delaware was a really cheap state for campaigning when Biden was getting started, and had become a revered household name by the time costs skyrocketed. So he never got into the money culture of politics. Still, he could have cashed in and didn’t. His poor fundraising skills certainly hindered his presidential bids.

  32. Jill Biden also worked.   I heard on the local network news that the Obamas own four homes and the talking heads were wishing they had that many homes…yet, when Bernie and Jane Sanders bought their third home this past August for $600K, very little in the press.  And for me?  I put that in the ‘there is nothing wrong with that’ file.  Just like people who home-shame the Clintons and the mccains.   Maybe the Bidens just weren’t that interested in money management.   But, I do not think it is a moral issue, a cause for sainthood to be poor or stressed about money.  It is a killer.

  33. If you want to see someone who has made a fortune off his public service

Check out Willie Louis Brown jr

  34. cnn:

As his eldest son faced the prospect of resigning as Delaware’s attorney general amid health concerns, Vice President Joe Biden received an offer that floored him: financial support from his boss, President Barack Obama.
In the never been told before story, Biden recalled how concerned Obama had been.
Describing in an interview with CNN chief political analyst Gloria Borger one of his weekly lunches with Obama, Biden said he told the President he was worried about caring for Beau’s family without his son’s salary.

“I said, ‘But I worked it out.'” Biden recalled telling Obama. “I said, ‘But — Jill and I will sell the house and be in good shape.'”
Obama, Biden remembered, pushed back vehemently on the thought of Biden and his wife selling their home in Wilmington, Delaware.
“He got up and he said, ‘Don’t sell that house. Promise me you won’t sell the house,'” Biden continued, speculating Obama would be “mad” he was retelling the story.
“He said, ‘I’ll give you the money. Whatever you need, I’ll give you the money. Don’t, Joe — promise me. Promise me.’ I said, ‘I don’t think we’re going to have to anyway.’ He said, ‘promise me,'” Biden recalled.

  35. timemag: What we know about the bombshell claims in the Trump dossier
Who wrote the dossier and why?
The idea to gather a file of Trump’s weaknesses and failings came from a wealthy Republican donor who opposed Trump’s presidential candidacy, according to the New York Times. He hired Fusion GPS in September 2015, though the unnamed donor eventually dropped the file when Trump became the Republican nominee.

Democratic supporters of Hillary Clinton picked up the tab to continue the file, which assumed greater urgency as the Democratic National Committee email hacking scandal was revealed, according to the news agency.

any chance the twit was Koch-olded?

  36. That is a sad story about the Biden’s. He was trying to help his son and willing to sacrifice his home. Wow

Trump would probably have offered to buy the house at deep discount and refused to pay the agreed price

  37. As close as I can determine since articles about Obama homes are severely slanted and require careful analysis, here are the homes.

They seem to have sold the Chicago home which was leased originally when he was elected.

They are leasing the DC home until Sasha graduates from Sidwell Friends.  After that, no info.

They just purchased a home in HI rumored to be estate used for Magnum PI

Marty Nesbitt has purchased a CA home.  Denials that this is for the Obamas.  Who knows.

Anyway at present, while having the use of homes in DC & CA, they only own one.

  38. Joe Biden is one of the richest men on earth!  He has been honorable to himself and to his family….the rest of us dont matter on lick…… of a few people on earth that can look in the mirror and see him self inside out…….i dont feel sorry for him…..i admire him for all of his virtues……Financially….he will do ok……hope that Obama takes him on the speaking circuit…….

Now Obama and his con artist wife……they have four homers Huh?…..wonder if he paid anything for his last three……the first was on the house…the dnc house…….Michelle was in on it too…..nothing to admire there…….mmmmm wonder how much each of the Obamas individually are worth now……..he did have a long eight years to accomplish greatness….but he just gave us bread crumbs….he conned us all for eight year…making us believe that he was a dem…..his is not….

Imo….he does not deserve the Peace Prize Award….not when he extended wars…..and took us into a few new ones……….he had chances to do a few good things….but decided that he would not rock the boat ……the one thing that he could have done for all Vets….all people with inadequate health care…or none at all…….was that he should have pushed to legalize MJ….for the whole country….is see it as a back door health care sort of…………I wont list the many, many health benefits that mj has….the relief that veterans and others could have with it ……….it is a miracle plant, drug……he did nothing…………so….dont let the door…………..OH

And he did very little for us that lost our homes…and our 401ks due to the 2008 financial crisis……but he did bail out some big corps……more kick backs??

About 6 months ago…..i just finished paying my last payment to irs….made them an offer of compromise………..2 days ago…..(i made Illinois an offer also…few years back)….i received a bill for 6,327.27…….and telling me that i have to pay it now…..they waited until i finished paying irs……they are billing me….although it was my corp that is on all of the paper work……….nothing i can do about it………2008 crises is screwing with me again………screw all of the dems…and the Rs….as far as im concerned…..cept for the very few like Joe Biden……

I hate Donald Trump and everything he stands for……but i bet the house that i dont have anymore…..that he will accomplish a lot more for whatever or whomever he stands for… the looks of what i read here on the trail…..every one is running scared…….just where he wants you…..he is already better then obama……no one was scared of the “present president”……..I thinking that he is mostly mouth and doesn’t care too much for all of the hard work that is coming his way……..i really dont know who will be running the country for a while….but i look for the Bush crime bosses to be working up a plan that……….

Lots of great things happening in science…..I used to listen, read NPR for some of the news there….until i read that Obamas U S food and drug administration department……..has been arm twisting the reportorial independence……it was a faustian bargain…….they would give the news outlets a heads up on any new development…a day ahead…several news organizations…the big ones…all of them…..were told that they would have to abandon its reportorial independence………it was take it or leave it  kind of thing……..just report what we tell you…and no questions asked……….problably going to get a lot worse……but everything is already pretty bad no?……….

I see that the dems have no plans in place… work with the indies………if they dont….they will never get our government back to some semblance of being just for us all………mean while….the Dems are just doing what they do best……nada….it took the cubs a century to wake up……….lets see how long it takes the dems………hey maybe the dnc could get the Clintons daughter to run for potus next time…….about time for another bush to run……later going for a walk…….going to flip a coin….should i pay this latest fine for the 2008 mess caused by the evil and less evil partys….or do i go to jail…….free food   mmmmm ???…………like i said…Joe is a rich man… least he has obama to lean on if worse comes to worse……later

  39. Pogo,

I read sometime ago….thinking in the NY Times? that there was some fellas….ex irs agents that refused to pay taxes cos there was no law saying that it had to be paid……they went to court and won……they did not have to pay taxes….said there were about 81 million people that do not pay taxes (file)   doesnt sound right to me…and not thinking of doing that….although if I was by my self…and not with my wife…..i just might do it…go to court for the fun of it………..I know that there is a shit load of irs codes….but is there a 16th?law….in the constitution saying that we must pay…….what year did the government start collecting taxes…..around 1900 or so?…..dont know where im going with this….other than just wondering about how things went down……..

I know that there is not one penny of all of our tax money goes for the general good of Americans….it all goes to the national debt?…..our roads are paid by the gas taxes no?……why should i/u/any of us pay for all of corruptions that is going on………….I will vote for the diablo next time around….if he promises and gets rid of he irs……….sorry, lots of weird stuff going on in my head… hurts…….later

  40. Solar, good luck with that not paying taxes.  26 USC §7201 forward sets out the penalties for failure to file, failure to pay, etc.  Don’t know anything about those ex IRS agents, but call me skeptical.

“Any person required under this title to pay any estimated tax or tax, or required by this title or by regulations made under authority thereof to make a return, keep any records, or supply any information, who willfully fails to pay such estimated tax or tax, make such return, keep such records, or supply such information, at the time or times required by law or regulations, shall, in addition to other penalties provided by law, be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not more than $25,000 ($100,000 in the case of a corporation), or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both, together with the costs of prosecution…”

  41. If EVERY Green had voted for Clinton rather than Stein in the Big Cheat states, the Dems would have overcome the massive ripper vote crimes in WI by 8,324 – .27%,  and MI by 10,459  – .84%, not enough to win in the Election College.  trump would still win by 20 E.C. votes.

However, add in PA and Clinton would have won by 5,667 vote – .09 % (<1/1000 !).

That would put WI, MI, and PA into recounts of the ‘hanging chad’ variety, all states having rip up governors.

The caveat is, even if there were no Green Party candidate, some Greenies would vote for trump, Johnson, or William Proxmire, or Donald Duck, just as if there were no Dem Party Candidate, some Dems would vote for Johnson, Stein, and maybe even trumpence.

The only way that Clinton could have won in the Electoral College was if she had taken 23% of the Stein vote in both WI and MI PLUS 88.5% of the Green vote in PA. This last is key, because Clinton can’t win w/o PA’s electoral votes, and getting 8/9ths of the Greenies couldn’t be done.

  42. As for badmouthing Bernie, his efforts kept the to fewer than 30% of the vote. Only HI and DC were less generous to the deadbeat.

  43. El Pogo:   Oops….. That’s not my guitar in the video….I’ve never made one…..almost made one of those hammer dulcimer-type chimes for the front door oncet but my plans fell thru…… That video I posted was just one I found looking for Kenny….. It was 30 yrs ago I worked with him…..that video is more recent…..

I do recall Bink’s posting a pic of a guitar he made….I can’t even imagine trying to make a guitar….

  44. Sturg, you’re a cabinet maker. Make a medicine cabinet. Bolt on a 1x4x30, add some fish line, drill a four inch hole, and you’re done.

  45. I always promised myself that if I were to meet Bo somewhere, I was going to teach him a 2nd chord………..

  46. Ha!  Gotcha – I was fooled by the caption.   I saw Bo in a bar near Richmond back about 1992 or so.  He was “touring” – which meant traveling in his car and playing bars with local bands as backup groups.  Spent the first half hour to an hour trying to school the band on how to play his stuff.  He was fun and the second set was tolerable.  Had to be almost 20 people in the bar – he came over and chatted between sets.  Actually pretty decent guy. What would he do with a second chord?

  47. Sturg, or you could take what Brad Paisley said about a Telecaster and apply it – a cutting board and a baseball bat. Heck, John Fogerty has one made from a bat-like piece of wood with a Louisville Slugger brand on it that sounds like his Les Pauls. Only song he plays it on in concert is “Center Field”

  48. All $ figures are Millions of U.S. Current Dollars.

The December 31, 2016 figures are available from the Monthly Statement of the Public Debt (MSPD) and Downloadable Files and the Total Public Debt Outstanding is $19,976,827.  Obama, during his 8 year term, contributed $9,277,022 or an 86.70% increase.  On a percentage increase basis only Ronald Reagan at 188.58% and George W, Bush at 88.97% were worse than Obama.

Even with Obama’s continued assault [see below] on the Social Security Trust Fund it is still showing a year to year increase in its march to $3 trillion.

    Social Security Trust Funds
Federal Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund (OASI) $2,801,405.6
    Year to Year Change $40,887.8
Year to Year Change % 1.48%
Federal Disability Insurance Trust Fund (DI) $46,480.9
    Year to Year Change $20,379.5
Year to Year Change % 78.08%

    Medicare Trust Funds
Federal Hospital Insurance Trust Fund (Part A) $198,805.8
    Year to Year Change $5,056.5
Year to Year Change % 2.61%
Federal Supplementary Medical Insurance Trust Fund (Parts B & D) $94,608.4
    Year to Year Change $25,403.6
Year to Year Change % 36.71%

Budget Deal Kicks the Can on Disability Insurance, Robs $150 Billion From Social Security
Rachel Greszler, Daily Signal, October 27, 2015

The budget deal reached last night [October 26, 2015] attempts to stave off depletion of the Disability Insurance (DI) trust fund at the end of 2016 by “reallocating” about $150 billion over the next three years from the Social Security Trust Fund to the Disability Insurance Trust Fund.

This infusion of Social Security revenues should keep the disability insurance program solvent through 2022, at which point we can expect lawmakers to rob Social Security yet again.

  49. Solarman….

sorry about the obvious pain you are feeling.  Wish I could tell you a joke….   but something tells me you aren’t in the mood.   I guess that horrid woman who said paying taxes was for little people wasn’t lying….   the bitch.

  50. P.I.T

When you put a totally unnecessary war on a credit card, the costs go through the roof.

  51. Renee……just letting out a little anger…75% not angry about anything at all…ive found all..or almost all of the answers of my past……and im ok with now …I just let out another 20% . Surpressed anger is very bad for the health…..the other 30%….hey I’m Latino.. thanks for caring. Luvs and hugs

  52. Solar,

I send warm wishes to you. You’ve suffered enough, dammit. It’s a good thing that you’re a Jar Head of Mexican descent. After boot camp, charging ahead through the paddies, and still being called a sp*ck, the rest of this crap probably seems like a mere annoyance.

    I salute you, sir,

  53. solar, was that raging 20% you let out the you that’s “human” or those pesky bacteria that make up the most of you that’s you in toto

[see old article from scientific American “Humans Carry More Bacterial Cells than Human Ones –
You are more bacteria than you are you, according to the latest body census”]
so who’s ranting and justly angry? also see wiki article on human microbiota:

Humans are colonized by many microorganisms; the traditional estimate was that humans live with ten times more non-human cells than human cells; more recent estimates have lowered that to 3:1 and even to approximately the same number; all the numbers are estimates. Some microbiota that colonize humans have not merely a commensal (a non-harmful coexistence), but rather a mutualistic relationship with their human hosts.[ Conversely, some non-pathogenic microbiota can harm human hosts via the metabolites that they produce, like trimethylamine. Certain microbiota perform tasks that are known to be useful for the human host; for most, the role is not well understood. Those that are expected to be present, and that under normal circumstances do not cause disease, are deemed normal flora or normal microbiota.

  54. Flaterous….. When we were kidlings down year in Gullah land and didn’t have guitars you’d be surprised by the contraptions we managed to come up with… the time, someone or other began burying lots of wires,  tiny wires, which when stripped of the wrapping made perfect guitar strings.   Whoever was burying it left it around all over when they were through and we utilized it…..strings, wrapping arrowheads into arrows, throwing coils of it into the fire for the colors it made, or whatever the hell else we could think of to do with a god’s bounty of wire.   But strings were the coolest.

Former MI6 agent Christopher Steele’s frustration as FBI sat on Donald Trump Russia file for months

Exclusive: Steele was so concerned by revelations he worked without payment after Trump’s election victory in November

Christopher Steele, the former MI6 agent who investigated Donald Trump’s alleged Kremlin links, was so worried by what he was discovering that at the end he was working without pay, The Independent has learned.

Mr Steele also decided to pass on information to both British and American intelligence officials after concluding that such material should not just be in the hands of political opponents of Mr Trump, who had hired his services, but was a matter of national security for both countries.

However, say security sources, Mr Steele became increasingly frustrated that the FBI was failing to take action on the intelligence from others as well as him. He came to believe there was a cover-up, that a cabal within the Bureau blocked a thorough inquiry into Mr Trump, focusing instead on the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

It is believed that a colleague of Mr Steele in Washington, Glenn Simpson, a former Wall Street Journal reporter who runs the firm Fusion GPS, felt the same way and, at the end also continued with the Trump case without being paid.

Fusion GPS had been hired by Republican opponents of Mr Trump in September 2015. In June 2016 Mr Steele came on the team. He was, and continues to be, highly regarded in the intelligence world. In July, Mr Trump won the Republican nomination and the Democrats became new employers of Mr Steele and Fusion GPS.

In the same month  Mr Steele produced a memo, which went to the  FBI, stating that Mr Trump’s campaign team had agreed to a Russian request to dilute attention on Moscow’s intervention in Ukraine. Four days later Mr Trump stated that he would recognise Moscow’s annexation of Crimea. A month later officials involved in his campaign asked the Republican party’s election platform to remove a pledge for military assistance to the Ukrainian government against separatist rebels in the east of the country.

Mr Steele claimed that the Trump campaign was taking this path because it was aware that the Russians were hacking Democratic Party emails. No evidence of this has been made public, but the same day that Mr Trump spoke about Crimea he called on the Kremlin to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails.

By late July and early August MI6 was also receiving information about Mr Trump. By September, information to the FBI began to grow in volume: Mr Steele compiled a set of his memos into one document and passed it to his contacts at the FBI. But there seemed to be little progress in a proper inquiry into Mr Trump. The Bureau, instead, seemed to be devoting their resources in the pursuit of Hillary Clinton’s email transgressions.

The New York office, in particular, appeared to be on a crusade against Ms Clinton. Some of its agents had a long working relationship with Rudy Giuliani, by then a member of the Trump campaign, since his days as public prosecutor and then Mayor of the city.

As the election approached, FBI director James Comey made public his bombshell letter saying that Ms Clinton would face another email investigation. Two days before that Mr Giuliani, then a part of the Trump team, talked about “a surprise or two you’re going to hear about in the next few days. We’ve got a couple of things up our sleeve that should turn things around”.

After the letter was published Mr Giuliani claimed he had heard from current and former agents that “there’s a kind of revolution going on inside the FBI” over the original decision not to charge Ms Clinton and that Mr Comey had been forced by some of his agents to announce the reinvestigation. Democrats demanded an investigation into how Mr Giuliani acquired this knowledge without getting an answer.

In October a frustrated and demoralised Mr Steele, while on a trip to New York, spoke about what he has discovered to David Corn, the Washington editor of the magazine Mother Jones. There was a little flurry of interest that quickly died down.

Mr Trump’s surprise election victory came and the Democrat employers of Mr Steele and Mr Johnson no longer needed them. But the pair continued with their work, hopeful that the wider investigation into Russian hacking in the US would allow the Trump material to be properly examined.

It was against this background that Senator John McCain, who had been hearing with growing alarm reports about Mr Trump and the Kremlin, met Sir Andrew Wood, a former British ambassador to Moscow, who had spent 10 years in Russia and is highly respected for his knowledge of Russian affairs, at a security conference in Halifax, Canada.

Sir Andrew stressed to Senator McCain that he had not read the dossier, but vouched for Mr Steele’s professionalism and integrity. The chair of the Senate Armed Forces Committee then sent an emissary to London who picked up the dossier from an intermediary acting on behalf of Mr Steele. The Senator personally took the material to Mr Comey.

Mr Trump and Barack Obama were briefed about the allegations as part of a report into Russian hacking a week ago. Mr Trump remained silent about them until they were published this week and then he angrily denounced them as lies. His spokesperson said he could not recall the briefing.

Mr Steele is now in hiding, under attack from some Tory MPs for supposedly trying to ruin the chances of Theresa May’s Government building a fruitful relationship with the Trump administration. Some of them accuse him of being part of an anti-Brexit conspiracy. A right-wing tabloid has “outed” him as being a “confirmed socialist” while at university.

  56. my apologies for the lengthy article above, but it had info in it that we were unlikely to see in msm coverage here.  it will be interesting to see if sen McCain corroborates the report re how he obtained the dossier among other things.

  57. Tune in the “news” and it is nothing at all like the days when news was just bad.  Today, it starts with Mr. Peebody, continues with Mr. Peebody’s buddies, and ends with more horror about Mr. Peebody.  And, most scary is that the news is about how close to being a traitor Mr.. Peebody is.  There is not one charitable act the floater has performed.  Everything he does is tainted if not slathered in shit.  Nothing.  There is not one speck of good that is he, his family and his billionaire buddies.

What is even more appalling is that he is being supported by the very people who swore to protect these United States from people like him.  Traitor.  Treason.  And, Mr. Peebody still has six days before he becomes the president of America.

  58.  is that it is totally believable about the disaster Elect.  He even contributed to the climate back in 2001 on Howard Stern commenting the Russian Women have no morals.  pat

  59. XR, thanks for the warm wishes…..felt like a hug… way past the past now….once i understood the why things happened ….(through extensive religion and scientific research) the whos and whens are not important. self/worldUnderstanding (still learning)  as a healing therapy is worth the time for those that want to cure deep mental and physical traumas……….

I dont think of me being a Marine any differently than anyone that served in any other branch of service to our country…should have re-upped into a different branch for an education tho…….

Mexican……im a human being first….just like all human apes of this world……dont throw rocks at me…i love bananas…..when we learn that there are no races, that races is an invention of Government and the Rich 100%ers for the purposes of keeping us in place, and taking what is ours, enslaving us……when we teach this at an early age…..we wont have the need to feel apart from anyone in the world, ……cept shit heads…like trump……if refuse to let him/them into the human ape tribe………..his branch comes from a different type of hominids…..thanks pal

  60. solar…sending you some sunshine.  I can throw a ton of shade on Obama, but his biggest error, I believe, was not going after the corruption.  The financial bailout of the auto industry serves as an example of letting them get away with killing Americans and covering it up.  The automakers under the cover of the digital depression to hide death stats, faulty equipment and the rolling deathtraps we find ourselves literally living in.  All of them cheating while on corporate welfare and we blame the little guy for his financial downfall in this country.  However, no matter how much shade I throw at the dems?  They do have light at the end of the tunnel…unlike the darkside of repugs and their trolls that live in the darkness under bridges.

PS…think of you & tai chi when I do the ‘hokey-pokey’ in the morning.  I have tried to do the controlled movements, but I read once that older humans joint fluid settles overnight…I have to ‘shake them bones’ to get my fluids going.  Then I head to the morning glory for some eventual warmth and vitamin d.

  61. Last night, we were taken to dinner by the former bernie supporters who started supporting Clinton in May.  They gave us this calendar.  At first I was repelled by the photo of herr drumpf, but hope the calendar humans make some money.  Make calendars great again.

  62. Pat,

solar, was that raging 20% you let out the you that’s “human” or those pesky bacteria that make up the most of you that’s you in toto

[see old article from scientific American “Humans Carry More Bacterial Cells than Human Ones –
You are more bacteria than you are you, according to the latest body census”]”

Being someone that is autodidact, scientfic american  has been a great tool for me….when the libarians see me walk thru the door….they hide it from me…..i pretend to walk around looking for something or other…then find it where it is not supposed to be….always a month or two behind tho….i would spend the money for the yearly sub….but there are a few more mags that i would want….so i read them at the library……the oct scientific american is a great one…..they have found a way to look into the brain that will let them study what makes us what are and how to cure what ails us………..Mind and body……..HA…this has been around for thousands of years to other parts of the world… westerner are just now getting up to speed…

.about those pesky organisms in our body…..there is good and bad in everything in life………every things has its opposite……they way to help the good organisms wind over the bad ones in our body….is thu our diet…..when we eat ninos pizza every day……(like you know who..x…) that is like giving ammo to the bad organisms …….but when we eat….organic….healthy foods that trains the good organisms to give us the craving for them….then we have the arms to keep the bad stuff at bay……my ti chi, yoga, meditations add to the quality ……

every day….wake up and immidiatly drink one to four glassed of filtered water…nothing else for an hr……and let the good microbes  get the energy to cure all sorts of illness…….then in another glass put in a teaspoon of the following to make you one super happy and healthy ape…..turmeric, lemon (cpl of table spoons) apple cider viniger (tbl) ginger, honey and pink Himalayan sea salt….i add cpl of other things……..all organic….you will feel the diff right away…but in a month……age rejuvenation……and we can all go dancing more often…..wanna go?

These things are what the NEW DEMS should promise to teach in our schools…….not the same old agendas….that teach you to do the same thing over and over again….that teaches us how to follow order that prepare us to work for the 100%ers…….plus after awhile its even cheaper…you eat less, lose weight, feel healthy….no doctors giving you meds that keeps you in bed……….i havent seen a doctor in two years now….but will go see my vet primary just to see how im doing….last time a cpl of the nurses wanted to know my secrets…… wont believe this…..but i told them that it would cost them a dance….had 98% hydrogen in my system…I have a filter system that makes hydrogen…..breathing exercises, still  do 100 yard sprints back and forth….winter…i run up three flights of stairs 10-15 times….

In not posting this to brag…im posting this to show the Dems that there are other ways to take back america……..a different kind of schooling, a different kind of maintaining our health….we need to teach new stuff…….Hey how about this…..I will give each and every individual that takes this class to better health and…………….a tax deduction….and other sorts of inducements…

I was going to submit something like this as a thread…but here it is now…….hugs

Dancing….now you all know how much i luv doing it…..but here is the reason……the music has healing vibrations….close your eyes, take awareness your breath for a 20 second……..say the work joy in you mind….and feel the vibration of that word…..from a to z… and the alphabet has its own vibrations….all healing….(Barbra Rush..found the musical notes)

plus dancing it the only time when we are in motion that is totally fun……..all other motion is kinda stressful no………..later thats enough, over and out……

  64. Thinks about it…….dont let the things you cant do…..get in the way of the things that you can do….it much better……..

  65. Uno mas……Blondi……see if this will get you started….once drinking a nice big glass of filtered water…wait about 5 mints…..stand shoulder with apart…..taking a few breaths ….in and out thru the nose only….lightly tough your tongue to the roof you you mouth (this connects the energy of the front and back of the body) then do as many of these as you can do….in time you will have a much much better circulation in the body………stand and cross your left leg with your right leg…placing the right heel in front of the left toe…then bring up the left one so it even again with the right….the take the right one again…this time placing it behind the left heel…bring the other foot even again…do this for about five (buiold up to ten or more…it strenghens the ligaments…moves the fluids etc etc.)  then reverse it all to the opposite sidie…start with the left and so on… not only gives you better balance……it makes the left and right brain hemisphere work together….and take some of the edige of all of that wine you drank…haha……….i did this once and got lost in it for a few hrs…….Judy found me at………….and pulled my ears all the way home……this will work for you….there is nothing structurally wrong….its in the head……

  66. Bravo, Solar, bravo.  I’ll have to try that.  The only thing it could hurt is Big Pharma & the insurance industry.

This “moonshot” that Biden is heading up, while personally important to him, may also leave him blind to non-Western medical ideas.

  67. We’re all just packets of energy/information, bacteria and hooman.  Music therapy makes sense, too.

  68. Sorry for all.mistakes….I’m using my kindle and thumb typing…even tho sometimes Im feel like I’m all thumbs hahaaaa..I hate when I lauggh at my own jokes

  69. solar, sounds like you take real good care of your microbiota.  they must be very happy and probably have solar celebrations where they sing songs and dance in your honor.   on the other hand, they may be in charge of you (colonizers of a sort…. most likely “colon”izers).  ’tis a funny thing to think about that we are walking talking worlds with countries within made up of diverse communities… sometimes the bacteria go to war with the virus colonies, sometimes the greedy 1% cancer cells abuse their hard working host taking over and eating up everything in their way.   hopefully, your inner nato, united nations live peaceably and free from bad things bombarding them…ass-teroids for instance.

  70. looks like we’re not the only ones fearing what may come from a bad election.

from wapo: As Brexit tremors ripple, the Rock of Gibraltar shudders

…thanks to Brexit, Gibraltar is about to leave the European Union — giving Spain new impetus in its centuries-long quest to retake control of this strategically vital and economically prosperous territory, Britain’s sole continental outpost.

To residents — who take their Britishness seriously — Spain’s suggestions that Gibraltar could be cut off from the rest of Europe unless it accepts at least partial Spanish sovereignty represent a serious threat.

Gibraltar, they say, embodies the European ideal of shared prosperity through cross-border trade and movement. But as European bonds fray, those living there worry that the coupling of Brexit with Spanish threats could return Gibraltar to a painful past.

  71. This is quote is from Forbes regarding trump…there are many reasons Clinton lost the electoral college.  It wasn’t just wikileaks, comey, guiliani, roger stone, fake news, hacks, internet shutdown and misogyny that lost the presidency, it was the digital takedown.  From Forbes –

No resources at the beginning, perhaps. Underfunded throughout, for sure. But by running the Trump campaign–notably, its secret data operation–like a Silicon Valley startup, Kushner eventually tipped the states that swung the election. And he did so in manner that will change the way future elections will be won and lost. President Obama had unprecedented success in targeting, organizing and motivating voters. But a lot has changed in eight years. Specifically social media. Clinton did borrow from Obama’s playbook but also leaned on traditional media. The Trump campaign, meanwhile, delved into message tailoring, sentiment manipulation and machine learning. The traditional campaign is dead, another victim of the unfiltered democracy of the Web–and Kushner, more than anyone not named Donald Trump, killed it.  The article.

(solar…thank you.  I always include a ‘calling all stem cells’ to my healing mantra.)

  72. flatus, fyi UConn women just made ncaa history with 91 unbroken win streak.  are your gals scheduled to play them?

  73. Pat …..I try to tune my heart to stomach….organs…brain…and nervousness system….and hope they all do their part…I help out with intermiting fasting…I don’t eat anything after four…five pm until ten or so the nextt day…..sometimes only fruit for a whole day to cleanse… once in a while a one or two day fast……during these times organs literally re new themselves……there are some monks that are over 100 in better condition than a forty year old….
The food pyramid……eating three times per day is more government and corps collusion of corruption and greed….good quality vitamins…one good meal and one light one…or once a day…

  74. Pogo, oops, Pat, we’ll play them up North on (Mon) Feb 13th. They’ll hae a different team from last year; looking forward to it.
