Guess Who’s Next

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad." "How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

  1.   that cartoon and the Lutheran pastor’s poem is the inspiration for this thread it being the week set aside as Holocaust Days of Remembrance and today the birthday of the infamous adolf.   this is a time to take pause and be alert for what could happen next

  2. in the meantime, here’s stephen

The settlement in Fox’s defamation lawsuit doesn’t require them to apologize on their network, so Stephen makes them apologize on The Late Show! Elsewhere, the former president’s new NFT collection is out of this world, and the Iowa state senate passed a bill loosening restrictions on child labor.

  3. The gop idiot nation just seems to be unable to realize that were every single  democrat to suddenly dosappear, half of those remaining would become Left gop and the Right gop would continue to have someone to vilify.    Their utter ignorance is astounding.
And I’m not that easy to astound.

  4. The big surprise of this day (so far) is Google C4 dataset includes one of my websites, What-me.com.  It must have been before the fools broke in and messed it up though.  A tiny contribution into the mess that is Chat4.

  5. DeSanitize is over, he’s had his chance in the sun and now he’s just another goofball Florida man. Meat ball, as it were.
F him, the mouse is gonna knock him out.

  6. BB, Google was the culprit in that massive crash we had a few years ago, making it necessary for me to completely rebuild on a different domain address. Without going into all the details, suffice to say I learned then how to prevent all search engines from crawling the site. It reduces traffic but limits our exposure to the bad guys out there. I also disabled Google Analytics, which monitors traffic but it’s also vulnerable to abusive outsiders.

In other words I don’t let anything Goggle-related get near this site and we’ve been better off for it.

  7. Sturgeone – making its way through the social sites of the intertubes –
destantis is after Disney because he tried to get on a ride and he was too short.

  8. Odd stuff.  Dukakis was turned into a dork by a picture in a tank; Kerry by flip-flops and a purple band-aid; Howard Dean by a triumphant shout; Bush Sr by being called a wimp; always some gnatty little thing which sinks their battleship.  With Santis it was the white boots snd the mouse thumbing its little nose at him.  Just like that–it’s over.

Disney Sees Ron DeSantis’s Prison-Complex Threat and Raises Him a “Pride Nite” Extravaganza | Vanity Fair

Ron DeSantis has not yet announced that he will run for president in 2024, but when and if he does, there’s a campaign slogan he should definitely consider—Ron DeSantis: If you like petty tyrants, he’s your guy. And we’re guessing Walt Disney would be happy to cover the costs of printing lawn signs and underwriting various merch!
Yes, in the latest round of the Florida governor versus the state’s largest employer, DeSantis threatened on Monday to punish the company through any array of absurd measures, including building a prison complex next to the theme park…..
    […]
On Monday, Disney seemingly responded to DeSantis’s threats by publicizing“Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite,” a two-night event that will be held in June to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
We’re assuming that didn’t go over so great in the governor’s mansion, and that DeSantis is currently asking his lawyers to look into whether he can have Mickey executed.

    @Disney

The first-ever Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite is coming to

during Pride Month in June! This separately ticketed event celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community & allies will have themed entertainment, Disney characters, specialty menu items & more: di.sn/6011Oz0rP

  10. Done bit off more’n he can chew.
oooh….A prediction:  They’re going to portray him as…….The Sheriff of Nottingham.    Perfect.
    Operative word: Ham.

  11. If they come after short people… than I’m in big BIG trouble.

Good thing I’ve got plenty of fight in me!

  12. Oh, oh.  Firecracker go boom. Yup another failure from Musk.  A bit of a setback in his spacey world.  Maybe Gay and Trans people worked on it and jinxed it?  If not I would have been a nice spell.

  13. Yep, I had a bad feeling about this launch.  Never launch during eclipse season, Elon. Never.   How much toxic crap was dispersed into the Gulf of Mexico? I hope the wind isn’t blowing up from the south.

“My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell has been ordered to shell out $5 million to an expert who debunked his data related to the 2020 election, according to a decision by the arbitration panel obtained by CNN.”

“Prove Mike Wrong Challenge” – in which anyone who could prove his data was unrelated to the 2020 election could win the multimillion payout – to get more traction in the media for his election fraud claims.”

“I thought, well what if I put up a $5 million challenge out there, then it would get news, which it did,” Lindell said in the deposition. “So, then you got some attention.”

“Zeidman signed up for the challenge, agreed to its contractual terms and discovered Lindell’s data to be largely nonsensical.”

Ha! He did it to himself.

How many pillows = $5 million?

  15. Rapid unscheduled pre-separation disassembly is what I heard they called the SpaceX explosion.  Now that’s a world class euphemism if I ever heard one.

Kevin McCarthy seems to be threatening to throw our country into a recession if he can’t set the world on fire.

“Repealing the climate credits is estimated to save several hundred billion dollars. McCarthy cited an analysis from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. that said the cost of the credits could be as much as $1.2 trillion.”

“McCarthy said clawing back the enforcement funding would save taxpayers $70 billion, but the Congressional Budget Office has estimated that on net it would cost $114 billion over 10 years because anticipated tax receipts lost would be higher than the cost of the enforcement funding.”

“The bill would tighten existing exemptions in the TANF and SNAP programs, but the new rules wouldn’t take effect until 2025.”

    To which POTUS Joe replied:

“Folks, that’s the MAGA economic agenda: spending cuts for working- and middle-class folks, Americans, and tax cuts for those at the top of the pile,” he said. “It’s not about fiscal discipline, it’s about cutting benefits for folks they don’t seem to care much about.”

  17. Poor Mike – only one guy took up his “Prove Mike Wrong” challenge – a Trump voter at that – and proved him wrong.  So sayeth the arbitrator. Now Mike wants to take his adverse arbitration decision to court.  Sorry, bub – you drew up the “contract” making binding arbitration the sole means of resolving the dispute, and since you drew it up it’s construed strictly against you.  Get that checkbook out – you’re going to need it.

  18. Those pillows are lumpy. I pack my own Tempur-pedic when going to stay with family.

  19. Elon doesn’t care how much pollution he creates with these catastrophes; it’s a feedback loop to figure out how to do it better the next time. Elon doesn’t care about anything but making sure folks remember Elon.

I wonder what the carbon emissions and other impacts were for building that thing, plus fueling it and having it explode in out atmosphere and over open water?

  20. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/20/politics/kfile-judge-kacsmaryk-disclose-interviews-nomination/index.html

“Judge who suspended abortion pill failed to disclose interviews that discussed social issues”

“The federal district judge who first suspended the US Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the so-called abortion pill mifepristone failed to disclose during his Senate confirmation process two interviews on Christian talk radio where he discussed social issues such as contraception and gay rights.”

“In undisclosed radio interviews, Matthew Kacsmaryk referred to being gay as “a lifestyle” and expressed concerns that new norms for “people who experience same-sex attraction” would lead to clashes with religious institutions, calling it the latest in a change in sexual norms that began with “no-fault divorce” and “permissive policies on contraception.”

Yep, they’re coming for birth control pills next, if they get the chance.

“The Washington Post reported last week that Kacsmaryk removed his name in 2017 from a pending law review article criticizing protections for transgender people and those seeking abortions during his judicial nomination process, a highly unusual move for a judicial nominee.”

“Kacsmaryk later submitted supplemental material in 2019 to the committee to reflect interviews and events he participated since in 2017, but neither of the 2014 radio interviews were included.”

  21. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/20/media/smartmatic-fox-news-retraction/index.html

“Smartmatic wants more than Dominion’s $787 million payout, plus a retraction from Fox for its 2020 election lies, lawyer says”

“Connolly said Smartmatic is “looking to take this case through trial” and wants “the vindication of a jury verdict in their favor.” But if there were to be an out-of-court settlement, the deal would need to include the retraction plus a payout larger than the massive sum that Dominion got.”

“The scope of the damage done to Smartmatic is a global scale, because we operate globally… $787 million is a good start. But it’s not the right finishing point.”
