“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad." "How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

  1. Like I said yesterday, this guy can’t introduce himself as George Santos, and anyone be certain that he had ’t already told a lie.
glad I’m not an airline passenger today.

  2. “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie” is a 1936 popular song by Billy Mayhew. Originally introduced by Fats Waller on the 78 rpm record Victor 20-1595, it was revived in 1955 by Somethin’ Smith and the Redheads, reaching #7 on the Billboard charts in that year. It was later a Top 40 Country hit for Slim Whitman, reaching #21 on the Top Country Singles chart in 1971. From the album of the same name. John Denver tells a story about the song and does a cover in his 1978 album, Live at the Sydney Opera House Other artists who have recorded versions include Billie Holiday, The Ink Spots, Tony Bennett, Bobbi Martin, Gerry Monroe, Brent Spiner, Lenny Breau, Buddy Greco, Steve Goodman, The Quebe Sisters Band, Ann Breen, Jerry Murad and the Harmonicats, Bobby Vinton, Patti Page, Vera Lynn, and George Maharis.

  3. technically speaking, the ninth commandment “thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” doesn’t say anything about lying about oneself.

  4. BTW, apologies to those earlier (than 7:30 am) for posting my new thread comments on last thread (since removed).

  5. Santos bearing false wit-less.

But he’s really good at making that white power hand signal.

  6. smells like a form of, if not outright, bribery but by another name – cost of doing business. politics as usual or standard operating procedure?

    twee by politico’s olivia beavers

At least two Republicans among McCarthy’s 20 holdouts got direct threats from GOP donor Thomas Peterffy last week, per GOP sources I spoke with. Here is a screenshot shared with me…

  7. Since taking control of the House, Republicans have failed to act on the George Santos scandal and have pushed for cuts to crucial programs like Social Security. Democratic strategist James Carville weighs in on the power shift on Capitol Hill and how Democrats can capitalize on it.

  8. MSNBC is snapping to the real story on the classified document situation.   At least on the morning show. Havent heard CNN since, maybe, the Dead Sea was only sick. Blitzer? Anderson? Who dem fellah?

  9. BB – Why did the FAA system go down?  Any intel re: if it was a cyberattack?

Is a REAL journalist doing the work to find out who George Santos is IRL? Birth certificate? DNA swab? Finding? Russian or Chinese plant? Wouldn’t it be interesting if he started voting with Dems?

    Sturg – Gotta love KO

  10. bId – I just learned of the system crash.  Nothing has shown up indicating it was broken into.  I suspect the answer comes from years/decades of less than stellar funding and updating.  The system that crashed is the Notice to Airmen, usually seen as NOTAMS, which provides up to the second notices of issues concerning flying.  I was going to give an example, but –
I cannot get into the system right now.  I use it when I am flying my drone to avoid flying into problems.  I hope it is not down again.

  11. The system was down for about and hour and a half but it may take all day to get flights back to normal.  So far no indication of cyber attack just a snafu thans to needing updating.  Buttigieg delivering reports as more is known.

“The state’s messy redistricting process also contributed to Santos’ ability to evade serious scrutiny.”

“People were not knocking down the door to run,” given Suozzi’s strength, Cairo said. Two years later, a late court order to redraw gerrymandered district lines limited the county party’s options, he added.”

“Cairo, in describing the depth of the deception, claimed that Santos once “told me he was a star on the Baruch (College) volleyball team.” (Santos never attended the school.)”

    https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/09/politics/george-santos-fec-campaign-complaint/index.html

“George Santos has lied to voters about a lot of things, but while lying about your background might not be illegal, deceiving voters about your campaign’s funding and spending is a serious violation of federal law,” Adav Noti, the Campaign Legal Center’s senior vice president, said in a statement.”

“In Santos’ previous, failed bid for Congress, in 2020, his personal financial disclosure form listed no assets and a salary of $55,000, according to the Campaign Legal Center complaint.”

“Two years later, Santos reported a $750,000 salary from the Devolder Organization, which he said had earned between $1,000,001 and $5 million in income the previous year. He also reported owning an apartment in Rio De Janeiro, a checking account valued at between $100,001 and $250,000, and a savings account worth between $1,000,001 and $5 million.”

“In an interview last month with Semafor, Santos described Devolder as carrying out “deal building” and “specialty consulting” for “high net worth individuals” and said he had “landed a couple of million-dollar contracts” within the first six months of starting the firm.”

“His financial disclosure form did not list any Devolder clients, and the Campaign Legal Center complaint notes that Santos previously offered a different description of the company on his campaign website, calling it “his family’s firm” and describing himself as overseeing $80 million in assets under management.”

    Russian money? Chinese? Who?

  13. remember this story last summer:

Trump Launches Conspiracy Theory That FBI Was ‘Planting’ Evidence At Mar-a-Lago | HuffPost Latest News

well, what if the guy that thought that conspiracy theory up also thought it might be a good way to get back at joe and at the same time help muddy up a certain investigation going on about him?   not that he planted the box in question at the vacant penn inst. office, but perhaps one of the cult faithful took the hint and did it for him.

seems strange no one seems to know/explain why they were there or how the box of docs got there in the closet of an otherwise emptied office in the first place.    it would make sense that blinken and others who worked there with joe (and now at SOS) might acknowledge stuff of that sort being around for research purposes at the time.  have they even been asked?

  14. https://www.thedailybeast.com/george-santos-took-donation-from-migrant-smuggler-rocco-oppedisano

“Especially striking to legal experts is that more than half a dozen of those expenses, marked “Food and Beverage” in the filing, came in at exactly $199.99—one penny short of the threshold that would have required the campaign to retain receipts of the transaction.”

“You can’t structure transfers of money in a way to intentionally get around the law,” said Jordan Libowitz, communications director for the good government group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. “If someone was trying to structure and kind of lazy about it… this is kind of what it would look like.”

“Officials brought the yacht to Haulover Inlet, where Customs and Border Patrol agents gained entry and discovered 14 undocumented Chinese migrants and a Bahamian national aboard—plus more than $200,000 in currency stuffed into the bedroom walls.”

And we’re those Chinese migrants women who were to be trafficked for sex?

Oh, patD – Good catch. Juicy story. You can’t make up stuff like this.

“The feds charged Oppedisano not just with smuggling undocumented immigrants into the country, but with illegally seeking to re-enter himself, though he pleaded only to the first allegation as part of the deal.”

“In a phone interview, Joseph Oppedisano acknowledged that he owned both that property and the apartment where investigators had found pills, cocaine, and more ammunition. He also conceded that he had introduced Rocco Oppedisano to Santos, but insisted he could not recall whether he had encouraged his brother to make the $500 contribution to the candidate’s campaign—even though FEC records show he and yet another of his brothers had donated the exact same date, only days after the establishment of the “Small Businesses for Santos Coalition.”

“Political committees connected to Santos have poured thousands of additional dollars into Il Bacco. New York State campaign finance records show that Rise NY PAC—a fund run by Santos’ campaign treasurer and his sister—spent $4,473.07 there on meals and fundraising expenses. The restaurant got another $2,405.31 from the account of a failed state senate candidate who retained Redstone Strategies, a firm that counts Santos’ Devolder Organization among its two co-founders.”

It sounds like Santos is mobbed up.

  15. NOTAM – this is covering Washington D.C. Basically it tells where you can fly and not fly.  I live right on the edge of this restriction, the red circle, so I need to read this NOTAM anytime I want to fly my drone, there are occasional shutdowns, such as the president or vice-president flying into the Naval Academy.

  16. Agreed, it sounds like planted docs, but why were Biden’s aides looking for docs? Were they looking because they wanted to find any possible planted docs to turn over before the Feds went in and found any planted docs?

  17. https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/11/politics/house-abortion-bill/index.html

“The GOP-led House voted on Wednesday to pass a bill that would require health care providers to try to preserve the life of an infant in the rare case that a baby is born alive during or after an attempted abortion.”

Then, if kept alive, no medical insurance nor food assistance nor housing nor a living wage will be provided during the rest of its lifetime per the Republican Party.

Pay no attention to George Santos nor any of the crazy crackers in Congress.

  18. Current law actually protects infants born alive in the third trimester however that occurs since this is very premature or only 1% of abortions and usually to preserve the life of the mother.

My great grandson was born at 22 weeks and spent months in the hospital. Torin is fine now, but it was quite a fight. He’s almost three now but only recently had his throat insert removed and is just now learning to speak.

  19. For those who are thinking “hope we don’t have another civil war”–too lare. We’re having one.

  20. It’s the lack of continued care they don’t address, because Republicans don’t actually care.
So many miscommunications today.  Damned Mercury retrograde.
