  2. Yo Yo is beyond special.
I laughed my ass off at most of WU last night, and I have to agree on the length of the cold open. It had its moments but it was missing Jason Sudekis.

Adopting a notionally neutral stance in this case doesn’t just create a void where professional expertise should be — it serves to normalize dysfunctional behavior. Paradoxically, the suggestion seems to be that speaking out about mental illness is the problem. But in truth, it is remaining silent about Donald’s obvious psychological impairment that is stigmatizing. By claiming that its silence is neutral, the APA is essentially granting Donald’s campaign an in-kind contribution while the American people remain subject to his often deranged and unpredictable behavior, without the tools necessary to evaluate it or understand how it renders him unfit for the office he holds.

  4. Turning the corner…. (NYT)

Members of Pence’s Inner Circle Test Positive for Coronavirus

Along with Marc Short, the vice president’s chief of staff, three additional staff members and a Pence adviser have also tested positive, according to people briefed on the developments.

Six states broke records as the virus surged at an alarming pace. Dr. Anthony Fauci suggested the U.S. might need a national mask mandate.

Record numbers of daily infections are reported in six states, including Ohio and Illinois.

  5. to echo mary’s lament on crazy uncle, the hill quoting obama:

While speaking at a Miami rally to gin up support for Democratic nominee Joe Biden, Obama said that a win for his former vice president would mean the United States would have a “normal president,” criticizing Trump for going “out of his way to insult anybody who he doesn’t think is nice enough to him.”
“We won’t have a president who threatens people with jail for just criticizing him,” Trump’s predecessor said to the socially distanced crowd who gathered outside at the drive-in rally.
“That’s not normal behavior, Florida,” Obama added. “You wouldn’t tolerate it from a coworker, you wouldn’t tolerate it from a high school principal, you wouldn’t tolerate it from a coach, you wouldn’t tolerate it from a family member.”
“Florida Man wouldn’t even do this stuff,” the president said, after which attendees began laughing and honking their car horns. “Why are we accepting it from the president of the United States? It’s not normal behavior.”

  8. wapo:

President Trump privately told donors this past week that it will be “very tough” for Republicans to keep control of the Senate in the upcoming election because some of the party’s senators are candidates he cannot support.
“I think the Senate is tough actually. The Senate is very tough,” Trump said at a fundraiser Thursday at the Nashville Marriott, according to an attendee. “There are a couple senators I can’t really get involved in. I just can’t do it. You lose your soul if you do. I can’t help some of them. I don’t want to help some of them.”
    […]
Senate Republicans have known for days that the probability of the party losing control of the upper chamber has increased drastically, with even Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) pegging his bid to keep power as “50-50” in a recent radio interview.
    […]
At the fundraiser, Trump lamented that he could not send federal forces into some of the cities that were racked by violence and protests this summer.
“Unless it’s a strict emergency, we’re not allowed to go in. We’re going to find more and more emergencies,” he said

  9. 538 is issuing caution looking at polls right now.  Seems good to consider since there is a lot going on.  The scariest reading is list of people who voted for SFB in 2016 and what they plan on doing in 2020.  It is not good.  The pattern is they are completely clueless about reality.

  10. “When politicians start talking about large groups of their fellow Americans as ‘enemies,’ it’s time for a quiet stir of alertness. Polarizing people is a good way to win an election, and also a good way to wreck a country.”

  11. While dumb fuck is trying to get away from Covid Covid Covid, Biden needs to be screaming asshat asshat asshat. This is definitely not done yet. I caught just a bit of shit head yesterday at what I believe was his Florida rally even though who can really tell the difference? He was repeating Biden’s words from the debate that we used against him and turning them back on by as if he is the champion of the middle class and Biden is the champion of the donor class.  What a fucking asshole

  12. jamie, well D’ump sure is adhering to the line  “i’ll kill your friends and family to remind you of my love”

he’s killing way more than mad king G ever did.  and soon, if the prediction of over 500,000 covid dead by end of year comes true, he’ll be responsible for killing more americans than all our wars. and just to remind us of how much he loves us.

  13. about the above biden ad from the hill:

Actor Brad Pitt narrated a new ad for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, calling the former vice president a candidate who will “work just as hard for the people who voted for him as those who didn’t.”
“America is a place for everyone, those who chose this country, those who fought for it, some Republicans, some Democrats and most just somewhere in between, all looking for the same thing: Someone who understands their hopes, their dreams, their pain,” Pitt said in the minute-long ad titled “Make Life Better.”
The ad aired Saturday during the fourth game of the World Series, CNN first reported.
    […]
Pitt is not the first actor to lend his voice to an ad for the Biden campaign airing during Major League Baseball’s championship series. Actor Sam Elliot narrated an ad for Biden that premiered earlier this week during the first game of the World Series.

  16. Again the asshole Alec Witless questions dems boycotting the Phoney Barrett vote. Saying it conflicts with the message of  unity Biden is using now.    Either she is an idiot or her writers hate her

  17. Amy Barret could be totally qualified, but if you attain a position due to hatred, hypocrisy, cheating, and lies, you are definitely NOT a Christian.

  18. Did Coney-Barret give a single straight answer to any question asked in hearings?

…and i’m sorry, but no one that subscribes to “originalism” can be intelligent, it’s a ridiculously absurd philosophy.

(i suppose an amoral person of above-average intelligence could possibly wield the pseudo-philosophy of “originalism” as a manipulative tool. So, which is she? Dumb or manipulative?)

  19. Phony Barrett’s opinion in a case was that calling someone a nigger DOES NOT create a hostile workplace. I wonder how her two black kids feel about especially since she said she always thinks about the impact of a decision on her family

She is perfect for Trump.   A sly liar

  20. …and once again, as a Catholic, Coney-Barrett necessarily believes in contextual interpretation of the Bible, but not of the Constitution?

Unless she believes a literal multi-headed hydra will rise out of the sea?  Does she offer sacrifices of flesh to God? Does she keep kosher? If not, then how is she an originalist?

Why doesn’t she cover her hair in the sight of God?

(i’m not impugning Catholicism, just suggesting she seems like a rather unobservant one🤷‍♂️)

  21. She doesn’t vote, i hope, because the Founding Fathers didn’t believe she should have that right.

  22. All Christians should be conducting themselves like orthodox Jews if they had any real conviction.

(the John 3:16 loophole is laughably convenient, must concede)

  23. Two cars in the parking lot of my polling place today.  Those probably belonged to the poll workers, so I hope there are more  Dem votes to come.   My guess is, a lot of Repugz will show up on Nov 3rd for the opportunity to act arrogantly and cause trouble if anyone brown shows up.
Jim Carey has got to STOP with the finger guns.  Last night, he actually went full-Eastwood, but it wasn’t funny.   Bring back Jason Sudeikis.

  24. Jim Carrey couldn’t make the cast of SNL when he was funny, but he made it now that he isn’t funny🤔

Ok, my brain is going to meltdown from all these ironies✌️❤️🇺🇸

  25. What a morning.  I drove through a very conservative location.  Not one SFB sign, and those people do a lot of signs, but a lot of Biden-Harris signs.  Very weird feeling.

The Naval Academy commissary has the over ten pound turkeys at thirty-nine cents per pound.  It may be a little early for some, not for us year around turkey eaters.  So I picked up a nice six dollar turkey to thaw and then into the smoker a little later this week.  I like turkey year any time of the year.  A couple days ago I read that the turkey growers were really worried about selling big birds this year.

  26. Sweetie and I deposited our votes for Biden/Harris a month ago.
We should be getting compounded interest.

  27. I’m my tiny, hometown of fewer than 3,000 (and a lot of those are in the country), someone has a wedding.  A few weeks later, they had 93 cases.
BB – Good to know you’re seeing Joe signs  where you’d normally see see Republican signs.  I’ve only seen one, small tRUMP sign on a house and one small Biden sign on the roadside with a dozen signs for local candidates.  I am taking the scarcity as a sign of fear as to what someone may do if you’re not for their candidate.   I haven’t worn my Biden mask and I had to wear a jacked to cover the names on the sleeve of my tee.   I have been using my Kamala tote for work, but I turn it blank side out.   It’s sad that it’s come to this, but we are here.

  28. My Thanksgiving is almost ready.  A container of Tofurkey gravy in the freezer and a garage full of green beans.   Since it got cold this week, I think folks are stocking up already.  The store was more crowded than I’ve seen and I skipped aisles because of folks just grouped together.  I think it’s time to start only going ever two or three weeks, again.  I miss fresh produce, but green beans, so.

  29. “It sets a terrible, terrible example for the American public,” Schumer says of Pence coming to the Senate tomorrow and presiding over the chamber for confirmation vote after being exposed to aides with covid. Says Pence is going to put people who work at the Capitol at risk

  30. I’ve seen this sign around town (in a larger form) at various intersections. This one is in the window at the Ottawa County Republicans office. This is what we are dealing with.

  31. XR, I honor KumCho by voting just the way she would want me too…which, of course, is the way I always vote!

  32. Have to go into the local hosp for a big deal biopsy on Friday. I was going to vote on the 3rd—will do it during the week instead.

  33. Thank you, Mr Flatus !  I take your vote personally.  I’ll bet KumCho could tell an incipient dictator when she smelled one.

I’m sorry about your big deal biopsy, and hope that it’s painless and good news.

  34. The nice, big hospital at the town my dad lived in before moving near KC is now full.
The new, Biden ads here are all doctors talking about the unnecessary illnesses and deaths caused by tRUMPsky refusing to take in the responsibility of managing the virus/listening to the science.
    Corey –  Scary sign.

  35. More Bernstein: “There are about 6,8,10 Republicans in the senate who are talking with each other about how to restrain what they regard as an out-of-control, almost madman…who is determined to do anything to hold on to office regardless of its legality.”

  36. Those Republican Senators can do a few things to shut him down.
    1) Do NOT seat Amy Phony Barrett
    2) Talk to Senator Schumer

  37. Gee Mr. C, who coulda predicted there would be more infections in D’umptown than Bidenville?  They both follow the CDC guidelines equally, right?

  38. flatus, also well wishes for good report.  hope you’re not having to undergo too much in the way of prep for the procedure.

  39. I’m afraid D’ump is getting traction in PA with his lies about Joe’s fracking position.  If any of you have connections with his campaign, tell them to overload PA with corrective ads.

  40. how is it that pence escaped getting infected during the 1st WH superspreader event that nailed d’ump, christie and a couple dozen more folk?  now even those closest to him are falling ill –  what’s his secret?  mother must be shielding him not only from unwanted encounters but also from unwanted viruses.

more falling by the wayside according to the hill:

Vice President Mike Pence’s “body man” was among the aides who tested positive for COVID-19, CNN reported on Sunday.

Zach Bauer, who serves as the vice president’s “body man,” was one of the staffers who tested positive earlier this week, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN. The duties of a body man include accompanying Pence throughout the day and night and assisting him with a variety of activities.

  41. axios:

    Scoop: Trump’s post-election execution list
If President Trump wins re-election, he’ll move to immediately fire FBI Director Christopher Wray and also expects to replace CIA Director Gina Haspel and Defense Secretary Mark Esper, two people who’ve discussed these officials’ fates with the president tell Axios.
The big picture: The list of planned replacements is much longer, but these are Trump’s priorities, starting with Wray.
Wray and Haspel are despised and distrusted almost universally in Trump’s inner circle. He would have fired both already, one official said, if not for the political headaches of acting before Nov. 3.
    […]
Trump is also increasingly frustrated with Haspel for opposing the declassification of documents that would help the Justice Department’s Durham report.
A source familiar with conversations at the CIA says, “Since the beginning of DNI’s push to declassify documents, and how strongly she feels about protecting sources connected to those materials, there have been rumblings around the agency that the director plans to depart the CIA regardless of who wins the election.”

  42. Got questioned on Twitter as to whether I was a great grandmother.  It’s been a long time since doing an honest picture so here it is.

  43. I think Pence already had it when he debated Kamala.  He looked like he had pink-eye.   Do you think they would tell anyone that Pence tested positive while tRUMPsky was down?   Enter Nancy Pelosi.
The ads that seem to help here (locally and prez)  IMO are the ones from doctors about the virus and the threat of losing healthcare altogether or not being able to afford coverage due to pre-existing conditions.
That’s the ad they need to make: COVID can have long term consequences.  There are millions who’ve had a positive test who now have a pre-existing condition.   This includes my 20-something cousins who are still testing positive after weeks of being really sick.  No other health problems; athletes.  Now, they have a pre-existing condition.
The Repugz are going hard on protecting gas and oil jobs here, too.  Before the debate, most of the ads were using the false “defunding police” tactic.    Pogo is right.  Dems do need to answer those lies. Maybe bring up better-paying, green jobs.

  44. Jamie – I think I would still recognize those great, Scottish cheekbones if I passed you on the street.  Well, if weren’t for masks.  Good to see you!  (No, you don’t look like a great-grandmother to me.)
    flatus – All the best.

  45. Thank you Flatus, BID

Corey, I was sobbing into my hands so no one could see the face.  :).  Despite the loss it was a fun game.

  46. Is the new, TX Rangers ballpark the ugliest ballpark you’ve ever seen?  That’s where farmers keep their combines, from the looks of it.
