Neg Test Or No Debate

I’d add another condition: proof he wasn’t positive at the last debate.

  1. hope joe prefaced that debate turn down with “for sake of president’s own good health” or perhaps “given his erratic pronouncements and dangerous decisions to his health of late”

a subtle jab so to speak passive-aggressive wise

  2. wapo:

Former vice president Joe Biden was standing on the tarmac Monday chatting with reporters at New Castle County Airport before boarding his campaign plane for Miami. Biden was wearing a mask and so were the journalists, but the plane’s engine was whirring and as he was answering questions about whether he would participate in the upcoming scheduled debate, he began to drift from socially distanced range into normal speaking range. And so, with no fanfare but unmistakable firmness, Jill Biden approached her husband from behind, reminded him of proper spacing and physically moved him several paces back.Biden apologized for his spatial indiscretion and then carried on with his thoughts about the importance of following the science in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
An entire campaign was summed up in that simple gesture — and by Biden’s response to it.
    […]
After his wife stepped in to pull him back into safer territory, Biden said, “I’m sorry.” His words could be read as a statement of regret to the assembled reporters for violating the new rules of social engagement, for perhaps, putting them at risk. But even more, his apology recognized the concerns of his wife. It acknowledged that a small act can have enormous consequences — not just for him but for others as well. His words made clear that he understood that no matter how VIP he might be, he is not an island. And sometimes, causing someone to worry can be as agonizing for them as any physical pain.

  3. Do it over Zoom!
My guess is that SFB doesn’t want to debate, either.   He no longer has the lung capacity to bloviate over Joe and the moderator.
    COVID is nature’s mute button.

  4. Does anyone buy that political stances are really flexible? I’d love that to be true, because then I could deal with the Republican wing of my family out in California. (I’m still reeling from yesterday’s email from a cousin who glorified SFB for his speedy recovery and expects him to “power through” the next debate.) This experiment doesn’t seem to prove anything, other than that some folks don’t know what they actually believe nor why they believe it.

Are You Liberal? Are You Sure?

  5. sturge, who’s the beautiful voice in that LP ad?  she sounds familiar – audra macdonald perhaps?

  6. Judging by Trump’s tweets yesterday, he was hopped up on something.  Considering it led to a huge stock market plunge and had to be backtracked to stabilize, his mind is definitely more affected than usual.

  7. jamie, if you envision how a toddler delights and giggles over a sparkly toy or jack-in-box popup, you  can see him possibly enjoying that immediate response of the market. ” looka me, mommy, i can make the market go up and down and down and up!  wheeee!!”

  8. vanity fair:

According to sources, Don Jr. has told friends that he tried lobbying Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, and Jared Kushner to convince the president that he needs to stop acting unstable. “Don Jr. has said he wants to stage an intervention, but Jared and Ivanka keep telling Trump how great he’s doing,” a source said. Don Jr. is said to be reluctant to confront his father alone. “Don said, ‘I’m not going to be the only one to tell him he’s acting crazy,’” the source added.
One area where the family seems united is over the president’s manic tweeting early Monday morning. After Trump sent out more than a dozen all-caps tweets, the Trump children told people they want Trump to stop. “They’re all worried. They’ve tried to get him to stop tweeting,” a source close to the family told me.
The Trump family’s private concern about Trump’s behavior could raise questions about his fitness for office. Trump has been prescribed drugs that medical experts say can seriously impair his cognitive function. Last night the New York Times reported that steroids, which Trump is reportedly taking, specifically dexamethasone, are known to “affect mood, causing euphoria or a general happiness.”
There is a long history in the Trump family of denying serious illness. According to a Trump family friend, Trump’s father, Fred Trump Sr., insisted on working even after his Alzheimer’s disease advanced in the 1990s. “To retire is to expire!” Fred Sr. would say.The friend said that as Fred Sr.’s disease worsened––he once came down the stairs wearing three neckties––the family created a system so that Fred could think he was still running the Trump Organization. Every day Fred Sr. would go to the office in Brooklyn and they would give him blank papers to sort through and sign. The phone on Fred’s desk was set up so that it could only dial out to his secretary. “Fred pretended to work,” the family friend said.

“they would give him blank papers to sort through and sign” sound familiar?

  9. South Carolina Senate Moves To Toss Up

There has been no more surprising race on the Senate map than South Carolina. Even early this year, it looked like Sen. Lindsey Graham would cruise to re-election. Instead, the Republican incumbent finds himself in a tied race in both public and private surveys with challenger Jaime Harrison, who has proven to be perhaps Democrats’ best recruit and a fundraising behemoth.
“It’s a jump ball at this point,” said one South Carolina Republican strategist. “Jaime is peaking at exactly the right time and he’s got a deluge of money. [Harrison] is blocking every pass there is from Republicans.”

  10. Now for some fun stuff

Three scientists have won the 2020 Nobel prize in physics for their work on black hole formation and the discovery of a supermassive black hole at the centre of our galaxy.
Sir Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez together scooped the 114th Nobel prize in physics.
The award, announced on Tuesday, is presented by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and is worth 10m Swedish kronor (£870,000), which will be shared among the winners, with half going to Penrose and the other half shared between Genzel and Ghez.

  11. lol, Jack, you know i’d wear that

…rest of the world is leading in COVID-inspired innovation, while Americans pretend it’s the flu.

…saw a piece about Japan reopening, months ago, and one bar had individual plexiglass cones surrounding each bar-seat (just like the ‘cone of silence’ from “Get Smart”, with air being vented up and out from that cone. That’s exactly what should be done at the debates, but, Americans🤷‍♂️

  12. Vent air up and out, you silly American bastards.

Hey, guess what, dear reader?  Good Sir Jack lamented, early on in pandemic, that COVID cleanliness protocols were too much for him to handle after a lifetime of not worrying too much about germs.  Well, despite his grumblings, he accepted realities, adapted his lifestyle, and is now running COVID-free in a science-denying Red-State hot-spot, despite being IN AND OUT OF HOSPITALS throughout that time.

So, don’t tell me the protocol doesn’t work, and that even “the most protected man on the planet” can get it- dude up here proves you’re mistaken👍

  13. NYTimes:

Manhattan D.A. Can Obtain Trump’s Tax Returns, Judges Rule
    […]
The ruling by a three-judge panel in New York rejected the president’s argument that the subpoena should be blocked because it was too broad and amounted to political harassment from the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., a Democrat.
Mr. Trump is expected to try to appeal the decision in the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Vance has said that his office will not enforce the subpoena for 12 days in exchange for the president’s lawyers agreeing to move quickly.

    [continues]

  14. so will roberts (who wrote the 7-2 earlier decision), gorsuch & kavanaugh stick to what they agreed to in july?

  15. according to CDC and WHO

On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days”

so that makes it likely trump & co (all who weren’t wearing masks in the enclosed room) were contagious at the 1st debate given when his & others symptoms came on thursday night.   did they already know (or have reason to believe they might have been exposed during the sat-tues interval) when they pranced around up on the stage at the conclusion?

  16. Mr Pogo,

Sorry to be late. The answer to your Q of yesterday is in Article I of the Constitution. Either House can expel a member on a 2/3 vote. In the event that the election is massacre of ripper senators, it is possible that there will be enough repugs left, and angry enough with mcconnell, to join the Dems in a vote to throw the arschloch into the street. That would give the governor of KY the power to appoint an interim senator. It’s very long odds, but after a year like this, during an administration like this, who knows what is possible ?

  17. So in today’s polling releases (per RCP), the good news for D’ump is that he’s ahead by 18 in WV.  The bad news is he beat Clinton by 32 here 4 years ago.

  18. XR, thanks – I didn’t put the 21 rethug senators needed to vote to eject him into the mix.  Now it makes sense to me.  I agree – VERY long odds against such a scenario.

  19. yeah, cause knowing how mitch works, he’s probably got a filing cabinet full of stuff against each one them that would rival what j. edgar had in his.

  20. Ivanker and JarJar are securing their place in line in the sh|+ dynasty.  Junior and the Gargoyle are out.  ~How dare anyone suggest SFB isn’t stable.~
The police office who killed Jonathan Price has been arrested.

  21. I am worried about Kamala getting infected by bobblehead Mike and staff. She needs to burn whatever she’s wearing tonight and give herself the full, Silkwood scrub down.   Not sure plexiglass is enough of a barrier.  Breathing is dangerous when in the vacinity of Repugz.

  22. “…am worried about Kamala”

…you should be since the Debate Commission has already demonstrated it won’t enforce any rules agreed to by both candidates, at all.

They increased the spacing twixt candidates from 7’ to 12’, as if 12’ is enough, indoors.

it’s like the Debate Commission is forcing Harris to play a game of vice-presidential COVID chicken, which is absurdly irresponsible.

  23. Anyone think SFB will be able to carry on the way he did at the last debate, even still hopped up on ‘roids?   Clips show he takes great, heaving breaths.   They don’t have to be in same state to debate.  We have Zoom.
If the evil spawn of Don are afraid to take the car keys away from gramps, then other grownups need to step up.
What would happen if Pencesky were to become acting prez today.  Would there still be a debate tonight?  Would that get Mike off the hook, ‘cuz you know Harris will win.   That will only scare white, male, Repugz.  White suburban women will be fine with that.

  24. new Quinnipiac likely-voter polls of battleground states:

    Florida

    Biden 51%, Trump 40%

    Pennsylvania

    Biden 54%, Trump 41%

    Iowa

    Biden 50%, Trump 45%

  25. lol, trump is now tweeting in all-caps, which every message board user understands is the surest sign of insanity😆

  26. MJ Hegar’s ad is a clip of John Cornyn saying he (Republicans) might lose if folks think job performance has been terrible.  Yep.
Senate Republicans have propped up SFB for too long to jump ship and save themselves now.  tRUMP’s stink doesn’t wash off.

  27. I’m sure (I hope) Kamala is preparing for this but expect Pence tonight to go after Biden’s documented opposition to the raid killing Bin Laden. I’ve been surprised Trump campaign hasn’t made more of this fact.

  28. The Republican angle for tonight’s debate will be to try to make Harris look like a mean woman.  It will appeal to the basest if tRUMP’s base…but more folks will grow to admire her.   Strong women are only a threat to weak men.  tRUMPsky is the weakest man.  Egos are like balloons.  The more inflated they are, the easier they are to pop.
By the way, nobody has forgotten about his tax problem.   If he got everyone sick to get out of taking a test, it’s still gonna happen. tRUMP can’t keep hiding in his bunker.

  29. Debate thread tonight

My worry is Kamala has only 4 months experience defending Biden and Pence will exploit that with relentless attacks on Joe’s record, especially on civil rights.

  30. Bin Laden?

The answer to every question for Harris is “you’re the coronavirus task force leader and you are overseeing the biggest management failure in US government history.  Also, please don’t infect me with your trump germs.”

  31. …really hit him hard, like:

”I’m sorry, it’s hard to focus because I just imagine all the germs floating around Mike Pence because the White House is literally the filthiest place in the country under Republicans.”

  32. OM – All of those folks from California moved here thanks to Rick. Hope they are Dems and not like my Republican relatives in California.

Not worried about Kamala.  Pencesky’s job is to make her look mean.

  33. Prestigious medical journal calls for US leadership to be voted out over Covid-19 failure

(CNN)In an unprecedented move, the New England Journal of Medicine on Wednesday published an editorial written by its editors condemning the Trump administration for its response to the Covid-19 pandemic — and calling for the current leadership in the United States to be voted out of office.

  34. Yep, but strong women only scare weak men.
And, with so many out of work (no stimulus in sight) and business owners in the edge, folks are more willing to think the govt aide is not socialism.

  35. Pencesky was head of the WH COVID task force…and now there’s been an outbreak in the WH. ~Well done, sir. Well done. Boy, Mother must be so proud.~

  36. The Emperor has no clothes no lung capacity.

Sorry, just having some fun before the most terrible winter, ever.

It’s like watching a nuclear bomb go off in super-slow motion.

  37. Sweetie and I voted ages ago : 2 straight ticket Dems.

    Head to head Dem 60 – 40 ripper, as I’ve written before. Actual : 58 Biden – 39 trump – 3 Weirdos
