  1.

wish I could dredge up the ditty we did of craig hoppin’ down the trail for a 3rd choice.  those were the days:  frightful, fretful but fun in some ways.

anyway, have a gloriously wonderful springtime day of great promise of new beautiful beginnings

  2. Great choices for Easter &  the vernal equinox.  OK, it was 7 years ago, but still. Thanks

  3. Me…  I celebrate the rites of spring today.  Happy, happy rites of spring, Easter, Passover, and whatever else one chooses to celebrate today.

Jace…  that’s one cutie pie dog.

oh yeah…  I did get to see Yul playing Ramses last night….

  4. Happy Easter.  I’ve been watching church on TV since 6am.

As the Lenten season ends, my candy stupor begins.  I miss those hard, marshmallow bunnies and chicks (kind of like circus peanuts).  Your favorites?

  5. Wishing everyone a peaceful, lovely day.

Thinking about the homemade candy Easter eggs my mother would make for us. She got the recipe off the back of a Jell-O pudding box in the ’60s. Coconut Cream for Dad, Chocolate for sister, butterscotch for brother & me. Hand dipped in chocolate; each decorated on top with pink & yellow frosting.  Both she & Dad are gone now, but the sweet memories live on. The river of life.

  6. blueid, yeah where did all the good candy go?

the bigger where question is:   where do you start, what part of the chocolate bunny do you eat 1st?

a recent poll shows the majority bite off the ears.  hmmm I start with the feet and work up leaving the smiling head with ears intact for last. esthetics and compassion above all is my motto.

  7. blueINdallas,

For “bought” Easter candy, Stover used to have marshmallow lemon chicks & strawberry bunnies that were yummy, soft & tender. Alas, they no longer exist. Reese’s peanut butter eggs are okey-dokey; jelly beans were banned from the household.

  8. patd,

Gotta ask: Is your rabbit Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate or White ( the real stuff, not candy coating.)

  9.

    Sunday Serendipity.

Can’t top today’s selections they are just too good. Thanks everyone for posting! Lovely singing here with a beautiful thought for Easter. Enjoy the Day, enjoy the Spring, and enjoy the music!

  10. The Rove group supporting Bernie Sanders just Tweeted Governor Enslie’s home phone number  telling people to call him and protest his super delegate support of Hillary.

Have to wonder why Karl Rove wants Bernie so bad.

  11. Brooks is such a slime. Reagan orthodoxy was not right for the 80s or any other time. People like him made a saint of Reagan and continued to do so while the economic foundations of the country were being torn apart. Now that the barbarians are at the gates it’s time to let go of the Reagan myth.

The republican party undergoing a sea change? Fat chance. They never met a war they couldn’t win or a tax cut they didn’t love, That’s not changing anytime soon.

  12. Jamie,

I think Rove just wants for people to think that he is a player, and a man with ‘the math’. Just another delusional republican.

  13. sjwny – I had forgotten about pudding candy.  That reminded me of Fruit Float and Great Shakes.  The good, old days.

I like Russell Stover maple cream eggs eaten with a little dish of pecans or walnuts to cut down on the sweetness.

jace – I can only handle the tiny Cadbury eggs, but none this year.  Do you get the caramel-filled, chocolate, or, do you go for the classic that looks like an egg yolk?

Hillary Clinton now holds leads in Wisconsin, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, California polls
    By Bill Palmer

“Hillary Clinton now leads the democratic primary race by more than 2.5 million popular votes and by several hundred delegates (plus superdelegates), allowing her to absorb the rare good day by her opponent Bernie Sanders today in which he won Washington and Alaska handily. But the good news for Hillary is that Bernie doesn’t have another good day left on the calendar. In fact she now holds leads in every mathematically meaningful remaining state in the contest.

Next up is Wisconsin, which some pundits had expected to be favorable to Sanders. But the latest polling says that Clinton now holds a six point lead in the state (source). While that contest may end up being a close call, most of the other renaming big states won’t be. Clinton holds an average 34.5 point lead in the delegate-rich state of New York. Then comes Pennsylvania where her lead is 27.5 points, and Maryland where her lead is 33 points.”

  15. He’s no chocolate bunny, but helping Bernie will bite Rove in the backside.  He has forgotten the huge numbers of Americans who feel increasingly marginalized.

Americans who want single-payer, a higher minimum wage, education, good jobs (not being sent overseas or over the border), and, an energy policy that protects our environment.  Bernie is the only candidate who has consistently held those positions.

If Fartblossom is trying to give the people what they want, good job.  If he thinks the GOP can win against Bernie, he is wrong.

  16. Blue,

I’m old school. Classic only, and I eat from the small part to the large. Generally followed by black coffee, those things are sweet.

  17. Sanders sharpens attacks for N.Y. showdown that may dash Clinton’s unity hopes

    by Philip Rucker

“Assuming that Clinton stays on course to secure the nomination, her team sees wooing the Sanders coalition as a pressing mission, especially young people and independents, to ensure that they don’t sit out the November election altogether. Key would be whether and how soon Clinton wins Sanders’s endorsement — and how enthusiastic he is in giving it. Clinton’s vocal support for then-Sen. Barack Obama following their divisive 2008 primary helped unite Democrats.
Two popular Democrats currently on the sidelines — President Obama and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) — could help bring the two sides together. David Axelrod, a former Obama adviser, pointed to a third unifying figure: Donald Trump. He noted that Warren last week fired off a flurry of tweets attacking Trump, which he read as an important signal.
“She was sending a message to Democrats that there are bigger things at stake here,” Axelrod said, adding: “There probably is going to be a very vivid choice in the general election and one that very much unifies Democrats.”

Campaigning has sure brought out the worst in Bernie.. At times it’s hard to believe he’s the same person i’ve been listening to for so long.. Still if he does the correct thing and endorses Hillary in the end, well no hard feelings.. I do think he has a good example from Hillary on how to do it.. Look at her supporting Obama in 2008, wow..

  18. sjwny,  dark, solid preferably, but will deign to give hollow a bite or two… or three…. never more than one bunny at one time tho’

jace, if cadbury would only change their wrapping…. horrible colors for spring time.  like them but must keep them hidden and no where near the easter decor.

  19. OSH sent me chocolate covered cranberries with my bumper stickers.  Chocolate covered cranberries have now become an addiction.

  20. Before Hillary there was Pat Schroeder (D-CO).  She drove the Republicans crazy.  She was a solid Liberal Dem from out West.  1977 Easter time, she wore a bunny suit in China. I could not find a picture of her in it on a google search, strange.

  21. mapmyvote poll “What part of your chocolate Easter bunny do you eat first?”

    World – Poll Results
    63% voted for “Ears”
63%,25%,13% respectively for Ears, Face, Tail

  22. I think all Clinton should do is stop insulting Bernie and his Minions.  Young people were only a tiny percent of the vote in 2008.    Who cares.   Ignore them and ignore the Donald and the other guy (whom ever that may be.)

Talk directly to the American people.

  23.
    biden in the bunny suit?

ny times: The Prime of Pat Schroeder:

”You came to my class to judge Halloween costumes – it must have been in ’74,” a young father told her. Schroeder grinned. ”We thought you’d be wearing a green bunny suit,” an official teased, alluding to the Easter bunny suit she may or may not have worn in 1979 to the Great Wall of China. ”Well, I thought of it,” she replied mildly.

  24. So, Bernie’s “minions,” “young people” aren’t Americans?  We aren’t important?  That’s exactly the message the Clinton campaign has been using and it will be their undoing.

The GOP seems insistent upon not listening to their voters, either.  Democracy?  Not so much.

Nap time. One Russell Stover egg was enough. Must be gettin’ old.

  25. bb, a tad violent bunny-wise are we?  and pray what do you then do with the bits and pieces?  sprinkle them atop a mousse or smear them all over a hunk of meat mole’ style?

maybe a garnish for irish coffee?

  26. So, Bernie’s “minions,” “young people” aren’t Americans?  We aren’t important?  That’s exactly the message the Clinton campaign has been using and it will be their undoing.

    Blue,

Sorry you feel you’re not important to Hillary or her campaign :0(. I wish you would link article’s as to where you read that you and young people and all Bernie supporters aren’t important..

I mean i read a lot and i just don’t see it.. I just posted a piece above showing the opposite.. In fact think about it, it’s not politically sound and i don’t feel Hillary or her campaign are that stupid.. Judge Judy says “if it doesn’t make sense it’s not true”..

  27. Took me the better part of my childhood to outgrow church but it happened, and when it did I breathed a sigh of relief which has lasted over 50 yrs.

  28. Once Messieurs Rabbit was in easy to sort pieces it was time to eat the little chunks followed by the next larger until what was left, I think it was often part of the front or back, was saved to take in my lunch.

  29. No one said anything about not being Americans or not important.

Looking at history in 2008, the “youth vote” was the smallest demographic in the November election.  In terms of an election strategy focusing on them isn’t a wise use of resources

  30. Pat and Jamie and Jace–thank y’all for the very nice music this morning. Here’s a secular contribution for Sturg:

  31. patd,

I like dark but for Easter it’s milk chocolate. It has the easter-y flavor. Btw, orange flavor chocolate is big in my parts. Don’t tell anyone but I buy it & melt it down to make my favorite cream cheese swirled brownies 😉

    Rebellious Renee, love that bunny.

I’m hoping Elizabeth Warren will be a bridge between the two Democratic camps. My goodness, women rule this year. Think of their influence in politics, media …. women this year have earned what they have achieved. The playing field will never be level, but it’s a lot less bumpy. Wow.

And I’m giving a shout out to Betty Ford too. I was at that impressionable age when she was First Lady. Her support of ERA made a huge impact in my life. She was not afraid to take a stand. Brave lady.

  32. Blue

I have to echo what Tony said.  I have seen absolutely nothing negative from either Hillary or her campaign reps that says anything negative about Bernie’s supporters.  In fact, she has been unfailingly courteous to questioners as long as they weren’t rude as well as supporting many of their issues.

  33. from daily kos:

I usually hate it when pundits try to play peacemaker, lamenting divisiveness and partisanship when there may be very good reasons for such behaviors to exist. But when it comes to the Democratic primaries, which I’m observing with no particular sense of attachment, I think things have taken an unnecessarily ugly turn lately. Yes, supporters and surrogates of both candidates have said stupid things. Hillary would do herself a favor by avoiding going negative on Bernie and his supporters, which only backfires (as some of her more prominent defenders demonstrated spectacularly over the weekend). I question some aspects of Hillary’s record, but she doesn’t deserve the outright demonization coming from some quarters of the left.

Let’s not lose sight of the big picture. Ted Cruz is my senator, okay? We’re bickering over two pretty acceptable candidates while the political equivalent of the bubonic plague is threatening to descend on the United States.

  34.

hmmm, the linked cartoon didn’t appear in the above comment which it illustrated so well.  i’ll try to post the image.  otherwise see dailykos link.

  35. Jamie, a bit of bias showing its ugly head on the 5 sunday shows?   are these appearances all by invitation of the show or are they mostly at the request of the candidate?

  36. The talking head shows have always been pro-Republican, Trump is a Republican, so are the Koch Bros traveling circus called the Tea Party.  They are all Republicans.  As the talking head shows are owned by the big three corporations, they call the shots on who to promote.  Loud mouths first apparently.  Two R’s to one D.  Today’s WashPo has a column by Nader, which reminds me that I had not mentioned his name in a few months.  We can now retire Nader’s name for another few months.

It must be Robin Red Breast mating time around the peninsula.  They are doing communal bathing and splashing in my little pond and then flying off at high speeds in pairs.  I sort of remember those days.

Of even more interest to nature lovers are the Bald Eagle eaglets.  One week old and they are growing fast.  Mom and Dad are constantly stacking more sticks and straw around the nest  to make it taller.  The little ones are going to be medium ones before long.  Mom and Dad won’t fit over them.  I can just imagine Dad building a little addition to the nest to shove the kids into so they can enjoy a little sleep without getting kicked or chomped on in the tummy.

  37. nadir ? Wtf is a nadir, and wtf would anyone, be they ever so wretched, interview a nadir ?

    Makes me wanna puke.

  38. Pat,

That cartoon has a little bit of they are all doing it and I really haven’t seen that but then again I don’t hang out at kos or the like.

I see more of the HRC supporters saying the “we have 2 qualified candidates” knowing of course that they are doing the faux magnanimous  strut. which probably irritates the hell out of the ultra serious sanderite. Those lefties they got no sense of humor.

    Jack

  39. Wow somebody ask Ralfie for his opinion. Must have been a blank spot in the paper where someone missed a deadline.

Ya know just for that I’m going to write a letter to the Post and demand my $9.99 back. I didn’t pay them good money to write trivial pablum.

    Jack

  40. KGC

I was going to say that it would just draw the fire of the bernie supporters but I see Blue iD has already covered that one. >chuckle<

But it is a good idea as there are several states coming up where she will find the Republicans are competitive and she needs to look like she can do the job. Besides the white lefties for the most part are in bernies camp so why waste time and risk doing yourself more harm in the end. She has emphasized the left wing attributes about as much as she can and still get elected.

(edited) ok I think that is readable now, sorry for the pain some of you experienced trying to read the first version, obviously I needed to eat. I’m better now

    Jack

  41. Today I did really object to Bernie’s constant reference to the Clooney fundraiser as if it indicated some sort of moral failing by Hillary.  What he didn’t mention is that the real beneficiaries were the DNC and 32 State Parties to use for down ticket races to elect Democrats to Congress.

Hillary has raised over 18 million for those races up till now and the Clooney bash means even more.  President has a whole lot of trouble getting things done without the backing of the House & Senate as we have seen for the past seven years.

  42. Jamie, since he really isn’t a fulltime democrat (still some bio sites id-ing him as independent) he probably doesn’t care about the down ticket folks.  guess temporarily leasing the party name doesn’t mean he has to pledge 100% party loyalty. new kind of politician, the time share condo candidate.

  43. Pat- that was great  fun and “twas the night”  was too. Where is he still listed as an I?

  44. Pogo

The most amazing thing about the Sanders ads here in Missouri was how white they were. Real pasty white, no ethnics at all not even someone with a sun tan.  Even the Republicans don’t look that white. It may be the fact that he is from Vermont and doesn’t understand how diverse the rest of us are.  I know Mrs Jack who does marketing for an architect and engineering firm based in Omaha NE, is always having problems with her artists from Omaha understanding what diversity is like in places like San Francisco.

  45. A gun rights proposal that I can support, sign the petition

RECOGNIZE OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO OPEN CARRY FIREARMS AT THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION AT THE QUICKEN LOANS ARENA IN JULY 2016
SUMMARY: In July of 2016, the GOP will host its convention at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. ThoughOhio is an open carry state, which allows for the open carry of guns, the hosting venue—the Quicken Loans Arena—strictly forbids the carry of firearms on their premises.
According to the policy on theirwebsite, “firearms and other weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden on the premises of Quicken Loans Arena.”
This is a direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk. As the National Rifle Association has made clear, “gun-free zones” such as the Quicken Loans Arena are “the worst and most dangerous of all lies.” The NRA, our leading defender of gun rights, has also correctly pointed out that “gun free zones… tell every insane killer in America… (the) safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk.” (March 4, 2016 and Dec. 21, 2012)
Cleveland, Ohio is consistently ranked as one of the top ten most dangerous cities in America. By forcing attendees to leave their firearms at home, the RNC and Quicken Loans Arena are putting tens of thousands of people at risk both inside and outside of the convention site.
This doesn’t even begin to factor in the possibility of an ISIS terrorist attack on the arena during the convention. Without the right to protect themselves, those at the Quicken Loans Arena will be sitting ducks, utterly helpless against evil-doers, criminals or others who wish to threaten the American way of life.
All three remaining Republican candidates have spoken out on the issue and are unified in their opposition to Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s “gun-free zones.”

  46. “By forcing attendees to leave their firearms at home, the RNC and Quicken Loans Arena are putting tens of thousands of people at risk both inside and outside of the convention site.

Without the right to protect themselves, those at the Quicken Loans Arena will be sitting ducks, utterly helpless against evil-doers, criminals or others who wish to threaten the American way of life.”

The republican party and their current presidential candidates are the best recruiting tool ISIS has. Why would they want to attack the convention? Just let the jingoism and the bigotry roll on and reap the rewards.

Really, these people overestimate their own value as potential targets.

  47. Jace

I suspect that petition may be satire, but given what is going on in the Republican party it is sometimes hard to tell.
but just in case it is not, I support the petition because I believe a fully armed Republican convention has the possibility of being a great public good for this nation

  48. Wonder if Donald is feeling the burn

Whom would you build, if you had to make a monster of mythical proportions? An evil equal to a biblical scourge? A traitor to be burned in effigy whose fiery demise would cleanse our corrupted souls?
In Mexico, that would be Donald J. Trump. (J for Judas?)

  49. Jack,

Probably you are right. Given what has happened with the republican party, we have moved beyond satire to full blown tragedy. It would be worthy of Shakespeare, but even his characters had some redeeming qualities. Republican presidential candidates; not so much.

    jace

  50. Rubio’s people pushed the Ted Cruz affairs story?  Ha! They are still going to try to push Rubio at the convention.  Wow.

  51. “…those at the Quicken Loans Arena will be sitting ducks….”

Whole lotta wishful thinking in that.

  52. Questions for republicans?

When a bomb goes off and there is no apparent perpetrator, at whom are you going to shoot? Each other perhaps?

  53. jack & jace, they fantasize guns are an easier way to fight off the protesters, shooting them instead of the chore of wrestling them to the ground or striking with fists which may hurt too much…. remember most of these folk are old men.

that talk of bombs is probably a pr ploy cooked up by cnn/faux news to make sure of higher tv ratings during convention.
