New York Times:
Paris has the Eiffel Tower. St. Louis is inseparable from the Gateway Arch. Seattle boasts the Space Needle. Washington has its Monument.
Silicon Valley wants its own universally recognized landmark, something that symbolizes its power and reach. If the San Jose City Council gives final approval to the project this month, an international design competition will be announced this spring. The winning entry could be built on a city park as soon as 2021.
Capturing the tech world in one sculpture or structure or art installation will be a difficult job.

  6. speaking of ape-ly aggressors, a little tidbit from the hill:

    Erik Prince, the former head of Blackwater and brother of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, has acknowledged that he was present at a key 2016 Trump Tower meeting.

    In an interview on Al Jazeera’s “Head to Head” that aired Friday, Prince said he was present at an Aug. 3, 2016 meeting at Trump Tower to “talk about Iran policy.”

    The New York Times reported last year that Prince organized a 2016 meeting at Trump Tower that included Donald Trump Jr. and Lebanese-American businessman George Nader. During that meeting, Nader reportedly said the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia wanted to aid Trump in his bid for the White House.

    Prince previously testified under oath to the House Intelligence Committee on Nov. 30, 2017, saying at the time that he had “no official” or “really unofficial role” in the Trump campaign and his only involvement in helping was attending fundraisers and placing yard signs.

    “Head to Head” host Mehdi Hasan pressed Prince on why his presence at the meeting was apparently not part of his testimony to lawmakers, to which Prince suggested, “they got the transcript wrong,” prompting laughter from the audience.

    Prince later added, “not all of the discussion that day was transcribed.”

    A spokesperson for the House Intelligence Committee chair did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.

    Prince’s latest comments come as he and Nader have both been asked to cooperate in the House Judiciary Committee’s expansive probe for possible abuse of power, obstruction of justice and corruption by Trump and his allies.

    Prince said last year that he has been cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller’s team, which is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

    Mueller’s team has reportedly probed several 2017 meetings that occurred in Seychelles during the period Prince met with a Russian banker there.

    Prince has acknowledged that he traveled to the Seychelles and that he met with a Russian government official while there, but has denied that he was acting on behalf of the Trump administration.

    Seated at a round table littered with party favors and the paper-cutout footballs that have become tradition at his annual Super Bowl Watch Party, President Donald Trump cheered the New England Patriots and his longtime friend, team owner Robert Kraft, to victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Feb. 3.

     

    Sometime during the party at Trump’s West Palm Beach country club, the president turned in his chair to look over his right shoulder, smiling for a photo with two women at a table behind him.

     

    The woman who snapped the blurry Super Bowl selfie with the president was Li Yang, 45, a self-made entrepreneur from China who started a chain of Asian day spas in South Florida. Over the years, these establishments — many of which operate under the name Tokyo Day Spas — have gained a reputation for offering sexual services.

    Nineteen days after Trump and Yang posed together while rooting for the Patriots, authorities would charge Kraft with soliciting prostitution at a spa in Jupiter that Yang had founded more than a decade earlier.

  18. …watched Nancy Pelosi be interviewed by the Economic Club of D.C. last night on C-Span and she is very impressive, with all the charisma and relatability that HRC lacks.    It’s no wonder Republicans are so afraid of her- she’d be a damn good candidate.

    That said, when one finds themselves watching C-Span over drinks on a Friday night, it may behoove one to take a step back from politics for a while.

    She very briefly addresses potential candidacy, acknowledges people suggest she run, makes no indication she either considers or rejects the idea.

  30. why go to all the trouble of running, she’s next in line when they haul the trumpugsters to jail or they resign “to spend more time with their family” (some of whom will be in jail) or have absconded off to isles unknown with the wh candelabra and other goodies.

    If this were a country where the powerful were held accountable for their misdeeds, which it’s not, at the rate the special investigation and the House inquiries are going, her term as POTUS from House Speaker would be a day and a half, max.

    When will Mueller send out his reports?  Maybe he already has done that?  Could it be that SFB is already repressing the report?

  33. Patd,  what Bink said.  Besides, what has anyone other than Nancy done that got the support of 90% of the House?  Hard to match that kind of strength. 

    Btw, watching a Clapton block on AXS and was reminded of Enoch Powell. Not sure whether SFB or his evil alter ego Steven Miller is the US Enoch Powell.
