since this is an open thread, I would like to open it with a question in response to a previous thread quoting the twit entitled “what you see and hear is not what really is happening” or something like that.
my question: what is really happening?
that question should be answered in 2 ways:
1. what does the twit actually think is “really happening”
2. what is REALLY happening
Answer to question #1 – I do not think we can guess what floats around in an old man’s mind which might be suffering from Alzheimer’s, dementia, ravages of perhaps syphilis infection and just in general a very low intelligence being. I do think the sky in his universe is brown, a very thick brown.

I agree with BlueB… the color of SFB’s aura is shitty brown.
He suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder with Delusions of Grandeur. His behavior tracks almost right on with the symptomology described in the DSMV.
That is what is going on here. This is our reality. This is about him and only him. He does what he thinks will bring him praise and accolades. He has no realistic thoughts about serving / helping others – unless it brings him praise and accolades. And his caring / serving is short-term and fleeting, and will disappear as soon as any chance for praise disappears. He puts his name on steaks. He seeks sexual gratification in almost total disregard for social norms.
He surrounds himself with people who worship him. His staff is afraid to tell him almost any truth. He is surrounded with yes men/women.
When challenged or criticized he strikes out viciously. The truth is a fleeting tool for him, rarely used and often abused. It all depends on what brings him praise and accolades. He uses the “lie” as a propaganda tool – repeating it over and over and over until it’s realized as truth.
He is a narcissist. He is dangerous. He will make a great faciast. He would love to be a dictator. But his mental illness will get in the way of him understanding how our democracy works and he will end up a stain on our history. I hope!

Thanks all, he’s more worried about Toby than himself. Luckily her separation anxiety doesn’t manifest, gets along ok by herself, just not pleased about it. Anyway he wants me to check on her first when I get there.
On Trump’s NPD, yes that’s the spot-on diagnosis. Having known one and researched it, the saddest part is that the only cure is years of psychotherapy. Howard Stern is the only treatment success I’ve heard of, at least that’s what he says about himself in an interview on Letterman’s Netflix show.

The disorder is characterized by grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy. NPD is not mere “narcissism” in the usual sense of the word. To distinguish it from healthy self-love, the term “malignant narcissism” has been coined for NPD. Don’t confuse NPD (malignant narcissism) with what people usually mean when they say someone is “narcissistic.” Despite the superficial similarities, one is benign, the other is malignant. Malignant narcissism is a deeply perverted self-love. A malignant narcissist doesn’t just revere himself; he demands others revere him as well. If the victim of the narcissist fails to revere him, he/she will invariably be subjected to emotional, mental or even physical abuse.
There has been no real success in treating people with NPD.
My ex-FIL was a malignant narcissist and he sent everyone into therapy…he could have been a trump twin. Easy to spot and even harder to elect, putie knew this before he released the malignancy on us all. The stain will be with us for years.

I think it is important that ‘malignant’ is used in describing the disorder. The whole country will have PTSD after this is over and it will eventually be over. The motivator for everyone in DC is to get reelected. The ONLY way this is going to be reversed is by threatening the reelection of congress. That’s is what Trump is doing to keep control of the Republicans in congress – threatening to “primary” from the Trump far right.
As a side note, I wonder if Mueller is planning to give the country an “October Surprise” by striking before the election. That would give the Dems some really cool talking points fore their campaigns.

Hundreds of people, including a survivor of the February mass school shooting in Florida, rallied in Atlanta on Sunday afternoon for legislation at preventing gun violence and making schools safer.
Their main theme was clear: Vote this November in order to elect lawmakers who will enact preferable policies. Their preferred candidate in the Georgia’s governor’s race was also clear: They cheered a reference to Democratic Party nominee Stacey Abrams and booed a reference to Republican Party nominee Brian Kemp. Abrams backs gun control measures, while Kemp wants to expand gun rights.
The rally, held at Georgia State University’s Rialto Center for the Arts, was organized by March For Our Lives, the organization started and led by students who survived the Feb. 14 shooting that killed 17 students and staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Jaclyn Corin, who survived the shooting, urged people to turn out to vote this November. She pushed for more polling places and for states to create more early voting opportunities.
“That kind of fear has no place in any school,” she said of gun violence. “That kind of fear has no place anywhere in the United States of America.”

How about – in the first 17 months of his “presidency” SFB created jobs at about 13000 per month less than Obama did in his last 18 months. How about 1.4% of the 4.1% GDP growth for the last quarter was fueled by China stockpiling soybeans in anticipation of tariffs kicking in and increased government spending? And how about that 4.1% growth rate stands behind 4 of the quarters in Obama’s presidency and 13 of the quarters in Clinton’s? Oh, and economists expect the 2nd 1/4 growth rate to be an aberrations and that growth will be less than 3% over the next 5 quarters. (All compliments of Steve Rattner’s analysis on Morning Joe today. Full disclosure – some of my numbers may be wrong – I don’t really do numbers and don’t have access to a link to the Rattner segment from this morning. Anyone able to post that?)

When both buses reunited in the state capital Saturday, they brought some of those student activists back to Tallahassee for the first time since they had urged lawmakers to take action on stopping gun violence.

The March For Our Lives group intends to keep voters involved to boost voter turnout in November. Their ongoing tour will stretch into August, as the national bus tour heads next to Atlanta, then up the East Coast. The Florida bus tour will also add an out-of-state leg through Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, the group announced.

And how about the trade deficit dropped $52B since SFB took office? Yes, and it’s the highest since 2006. But most importantly, beyond the cheer leading for the economy, average workers’ wages, adjusted for inflation, were 0.3% under Obama and have been 0% under SFB. bw, trial foreplay…. (Bloomberg) — Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s onetime campaign chairman, earned more than $60 million as a political consultant in Ukraine, U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller said on the eve of his criminal trial, providing the first tally of Manafort’s income there.
Prosecutors intend to prove that Manafort made that much and “failed to report a significant percentage of it on his tax returns,” according to a filing by Mueller on Monday in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia. Jury selection begins Tuesday in Manafort’s bank- and tax-fraud trial.
Lawyers for Manafort asked the judge to bar jurors from seeing 51 exhibits detailing his work over a decade in Ukraine, where he advised former President Viktor Yanukovych, his Party of Regions and its successor, the Opposition Bloc. Manafort argued that the 474 pages include “irrelevant, prejudicial and unnecessarily time-consuming evidence.”
But in response, Mueller’s prosecutors said the exhibits proved “the precise manner in which Manafort worked for Ukraine,” including how he worked on the presidential election in 2010 and parliamentary elections in 2012. He also worked on local elections and did political consulting and lobbying work for Yanukovych.
“The documents establish the breadth of the work that Manafort performed, including commissioning television ads, writing speeches and carrying on campaign-related activities,” according to the filing. “There is nothing prejudicial about documents setting forth how the ads were made, how consultants were paid and who approved their work.”
Some exhibits also show how some Ukrainian oligarchs paid Manafort through foreign accounts, particularly in Cyprus. The indictment of Manafort said he made “tens of millions” of dollars in Ukraine from 2006 to 2015, moved money from Cyprus to pay U.S. vendors to fund a lavish lifestyle and avoided paying taxes on income by disguising it as loans from offshore shell companies. It said that $75 million flowed through the accounts and that he laundered $30 million.
The emails and memorandums in dispute contain evidence about the identity of sources of income in Ukraine, particularly “the oligarchs who instituted the practice of paying Manafort via foreign accounts,” the filing said.
Although prosecution witnesses will testify about the work Manafort did and how he was paid, it would be “fundamentally unfair” to keep jurors from seeing evidence that corroborates such testimony, according to the filing.

Rudy Giuliani on Monday rejected purported claims by President Trump‘s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, that at least five Trump aides participated in a planning session days before a Trump Tower meeting with a Russian attorney in June 2016.
Giuliani, who represents Trump in the Russia investigation, claimed in an interview early Monday that Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, had said that a group of Trump aides — Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, Richard Gates and at least one other unidentified person — had met to strategize for a planned meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya days later. Davis is a columnist for The Hill.
In that interview on CNN, Giuliani made clear that President Trump was not at the planning meeting.
But in a later Fox News interview, Giuliani claimed that the planning meeting never actually happened, and suggested that Cohen had fabricated the story.
“He says there was a meeting with Donald Jr., with Jared Kushner, with Paul Manafort, with Gates and possibly two others in which they, out of the presence of the president, discuss the meeting with the Russians,” Giuliani said.
“We checked with their lawyers — the ones we could check with — for four of the six,” he continued. “That meeting never, ever happened. It didn’t happen. It’s a figment of his imagination or is lying.”

On Trump’s NPD, yes that’s the spot-on diagnosis. Having known one and researched it, the saddest part is that the only cure is years of psychotherapy. Howard Stern is the only treatment success I’ve heard of, at least that’s what he says about himself in an interview on Letterman’s Netflix show.

The disorder is characterized by grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy. NPD is not mere “narcissism” in the usual sense of the word. To distinguish it from healthy self-love, the term “malignant narcissism” has been coined for NPD. Don’t confuse NPD (malignant narcissism) with what people usually mean when they say someone is “narcissistic.” Despite the superficial similarities, one is benign, the other is malignant. Malignant narcissism is a deeply perverted self-love. A malignant narcissist doesn’t just revere himself; he demands others revere him as well. If the victim of the narcissist fails to revere him, he/she will invariably be subjected to emotional, mental or even physical abuse.
There has been no real success in treating people with NPD.
My ex-FIL was a malignant narcissist and he sent everyone into therapy…he could have been a trump twin. Easy to spot and even harder to elect, putie knew this before he released the malignancy on us all. The stain will be with us for years.

Hundreds of people, including a survivor of the February mass school shooting in Florida, rallied in Atlanta on Sunday afternoon for legislation at preventing gun violence and making schools safer.
Their main theme was clear: Vote this November in order to elect lawmakers who will enact preferable policies. Their preferred candidate in the Georgia’s governor’s race was also clear: They cheered a reference to Democratic Party nominee Stacey Abrams and booed a reference to Republican Party nominee Brian Kemp. Abrams backs gun control measures, while Kemp wants to expand gun rights.
The rally, held at Georgia State University’s Rialto Center for the Arts, was organized by March For Our Lives, the organization started and led by students who survived the Feb. 14 shooting that killed 17 students and staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Jaclyn Corin, who survived the shooting, urged people to turn out to vote this November. She pushed for more polling places and for states to create more early voting opportunities.
“That kind of fear has no place in any school,” she said of gun violence. “That kind of fear has no place anywhere in the United States of America.”

How about 1.4% of the 4.1% GDP growth for the last quarter was fueled by China stockpiling soybeans in anticipation of tariffs kicking in and increased government spending? And how about that 4.1% growth rate stands behind 4 of the quarters in Obama’s presidency and 13 of the quarters in Clinton’s? Oh, and economists expect the 2nd 1/4 growth rate to be an aberrations and that growth will be less than 3% over the next 5 quarters. About a dozen speakers urged attendees to stay invested in their political system. Organizers registered people to vote and dozens of attendees waved signs reading “grab them by their midterms” and depicting Xs over the NRA.

The bus tours have raised a few hundred dollars to a few thousand at every stop, registering dozens of voters at each location. Jaclyn Corin, the junior class president who has become one of the movement’s core organizers, said they intended to release the number of voters registered at the end of the tour, but organizer Amit Dadon estimated about 2,000 new voters have been registered by the group.
There are early indicators that voters may be paying attention. An analysis by TargetSmart, a data firm aligned with Democrats, showed the rate of new under-30 voter registrations across Florida has soared. It showed an increase of 41 percent of young voters in the 2 1/2 months after the shooting, compared with the number of such voters who registered during the comparable period before Feb. 14.
But similar increases were also observed in 2014, when Republicans were able to retain the governorship and win back a competitive Miami congressional district in that year’s midterm elections. Only 20 percent of the 18- to 29-year-olds who registered from December to April ended up voting in that year.
The March For Our Lives group intends to keep voters involved to boost voter turnout in November. Their ongoing tour will stretch into August, as the national bus tour heads next to Atlanta, then up the East Coast. The Florida bus tour will also add an out-of-state leg through Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, the group announced.

(Bloomberg) — Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s onetime campaign chairman, earned more than $60 million as a political consultant in Ukraine, U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller said on the eve of his criminal trial, providing the first tally of Manafort’s income there.
Prosecutors intend to prove that Manafort made that much and “failed to report a significant percentage of it on his tax returns,” according to a filing by Mueller on Monday in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia. Jury selection begins Tuesday in Manafort’s bank- and tax-fraud trial.
Lawyers for Manafort asked the judge to bar jurors from seeing 51 exhibits detailing his work over a decade in Ukraine, where he advised former President Viktor Yanukovych, his Party of Regions and its successor, the Opposition Bloc. Manafort argued that the 474 pages include “irrelevant, prejudicial and unnecessarily time-consuming evidence.”
But in response, Mueller’s prosecutors said the exhibits proved “the precise manner in which Manafort worked for Ukraine,” including how he worked on the presidential election in 2010 and parliamentary elections in 2012. He also worked on local elections and did political consulting and lobbying work for Yanukovych.
“The documents establish the breadth of the work that Manafort performed, including commissioning television ads, writing speeches and carrying on campaign-related activities,” according to the filing. “There is nothing prejudicial about documents setting forth how the ads were made, how consultants were paid and who approved their work.”
Some exhibits also show how some Ukrainian oligarchs paid Manafort through foreign accounts, particularly in Cyprus. The indictment of Manafort said he made “tens of millions” of dollars in Ukraine from 2006 to 2015, moved money from Cyprus to pay U.S. vendors to fund a lavish lifestyle and avoided paying taxes on income by disguising it as loans from offshore shell companies. It said that $75 million flowed through the accounts and that he laundered $30 million.
The emails and memorandums in dispute contain evidence about the identity of sources of income in Ukraine, particularly “the oligarchs who instituted the practice of paying Manafort via foreign accounts,” the filing said.
Although prosecution witnesses will testify about the work Manafort did and how he was paid, it would be “fundamentally unfair” to keep jurors from seeing evidence that corroborates such testimony, according to the filing.

Rudy Giuliani on Monday rejected purported claims by President Trump‘s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, that at least five Trump aides participated in a planning session days before a Trump Tower meeting with a Russian attorney in June 2016.
Giuliani, who represents Trump in the Russia investigation, claimed in an interview early Monday that Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, had said that a group of Trump aides — Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, Richard Gates and at least one other unidentified person — had met to strategize for a planned meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya days later. Davis is a columnist for The Hill.
In that interview on CNN, Giuliani made clear that President Trump was not at the planning meeting.
But in a later Fox News interview, Giuliani claimed that the planning meeting never actually happened, and suggested that Cohen had fabricated the story.
“He says there was a meeting with Donald Jr., with Jared Kushner, with Paul Manafort, with Gates and possibly two others in which they, out of the presence of the president, discuss the meeting with the Russians,” Giuliani said.
“We checked with their lawyers — the ones we could check with — for four of the six,” he continued. “That meeting never, ever happened. It didn’t happen. It’s a figment of his imagination or is lying.”
