  1. Well by golly…  I didn’t think the Alabamans had it in them!  I seriously thought that Moore would win this handily.  Couldn’t be happier to be so wrong.   I stayed up to watch Jones’ speech…  really liked it.  Yes… this was a referendum on decency and respect.

Pogo…  I’m feeling totally relieved for you.  I also have a sister in law from Alabama…  she hates trump…  totally relieved for her too.

  2. …slow walkin Jones,  slow talkin’ Jones…

I just loved those late results coming in from my home town and swinging the election. The black belt started the ball rolling and Jefferson County brought it it home.

And I don’t want to overstate what happened last night. What happened was that by less than 2% the voters of Alabama chose the man who prosecuted the church bombers in Birmingham over an accused pedophile who had been twice removed from his position as a Supreme Court justice.

What also happened was that out of the last three elections SF threw his weight behind, he is 0 for 3.  Now that is worth celebrating.

  3. Happily surprised by the results.

This morning, we have that in common with many GoOPerz on The Hill, one of whom didn’t have the moral fortitude to speak out against Moore in a consistent manner.  (I’m talking to you, Yertle.)

Let’s keep the momentum going and prosecute the Creep-In-Chief. Who’s up for watching a Rose Garden perp walk?

  4. Looks like Putin is out of the help on request election business even though Moore put out his Putin is great message asking for Russian help (way too late).
SFB should get the hint that no more Russian thumb on the scales when he asks.

  5. so predictable …

    Donald J. Trump  @realDonaldTrump
The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), is that I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election. I was right! Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!

  6. Mike Allen: “The Trump Republican Party, which includes virtually all elected GOP officials and all party leaders, is stuck in an old, white, Christian, male box. If that box can’t hold Alabama, it can’t be expected to hold anything.”

  7. The wins for the sunny side of the street still keep coming —  Moody Blues nominated for RRHF.

Alabama!  Although we in New Mexico are always with you on the bottom of all of the cultural lists, education and health care, this time I don’t mind sharing space with ‘bamans.   A noble state today.

  8. Tromp endorsed Luther Strange…. He lost. (Strange was behind by 9 and lost by 9.)  Trimp’s endorsement was ignored. strange’s numbers did not go up.

Tromp endorsed Roy Moore……he, too, lost.

    Lotta losing going on…..

Black women voted for Jones, so Tramp retaliated by firing the only black woman anywhere near him, the Honorable Omarosa.

  9. They know they have to beat mueller…..they know for sure that they totally lose if they can’t stop mueller and there you have the battle being waged…..all the rest is shiny objects and candy……

except for Alabama…..Alabama was the real deal, the real door number three…….but it’s only good for a year, then probably back to business as usual with a banjo on their knee…….”Pluck me a tune there, Bocephus.”

  10. The Dems are doing to PG what he did to Clinton.   I think I’m going to switch to Moose Munch

I am now putting my money on PG quits before June, 2018 citing wanting to spend more time with his family.

  11. “I am now putting my money on PG quits before June, 2018 citing wanting to spend more time away from his family.”

    fixed your typo 🙂

  12. bw, I think quitting time will be sooner than june… like just after he signs the tax bill compromise that only does 3 things: lowers corp taxes, saves daca and chip.

his parting words will be “i’m rich. I’m not putting up with you losers anymore. the Donald has left the white hovel”

  13. this was a bit scary to hear

at 1:02 “bad actors can now manipulate large swaths of people to do anything you want”

  14. Do folks still use FB?  I thought that was dying off.  I haven’t  been on it in years & the youngsters in my family seem to view it, and email,  as being quite antiquated.  They just text emojis & play with Snapchat.

  15. Maybe Omarosa will boil Donny’s political bunny.  She will not be disrespected & go quietly?

I don’t see Donny quitting.  I mean, is he gonna trust Pence to issue pardons to Junior & others?

  16. KGC, wanna give you credit for steadfastly arguing here for a long time that Democrat base enthusiasim is rising enough to make a difference. I was slow to trot but now I see it.

  17. Too late for him to walk away.

reports are that ms omorosa did not go quietly as she was escorted off the grounds, but was loudly vocal in claiming credit for getting Trymp elected.

  18. I think goopers are going to try to delude themselves that Roy Moore lost because of the charges but I think people turned out because the PG agenda is screwing them.

I think Dems should run ads on all the DC media saying…a Democrat in the Senate from Alabama

vote for the tax bill and no amount of gerrymandering will save you

  19. I was interested to read that Joe Trippi is part of the DNC team…that’s almost like having Dr. Dean

    Craig,

I think the enthusiasm will continue to grow. Welcome aboard.  In the immortal words of SJWNY  We are the majority  Act like it!

  20. KGC, I think it was a bit of both of those factors – I believe the charges had to have some impact on the crossover voters – there were some demos that suggested that white women with kids voted for Jones – I don’t think that was solely because of the economic policies. Similarly, I do think the economic policies and their lack of benefit to poorer folks had to have some effect on lower income voters who see the prospect of pugn cuts depriving them of access to healthcare. But I really think that the black belt voters were energized by Jones’ record beginning with the B’ham bombers prosecution and bolstered by Obama robocalls and the urgings of Sir Charles and Condi Rice.  And the pus bucket Moore won’t concede – wants to keep the AL SoS from certifying the results before the tax bill is passed.  .

  21. Agree Pogo but I think less than the GOP would like.  PG made it about party and people turned out to tell him which party.

And Roy Moore’s wife –she is ugly through and through. When she addressed the charges of antisemitism I could not believe what she said and with such contempt At least she didn’t say some of her best friends are Jews because I am 100% certain that is not true

  22. the gopers are spreading the blame according to this excerpt from

    time:

    …..

Some on the right are blaming Jones’ loss on Breitbart chairman Steve Bannon, the former White House chief strategist who ardently stood by Moore even as top Republicans abandoned him. Moore was exactly the sort of candidate who appeals to Bannon — an outsider populist with extreme views who frustrates party brass — and Bannon stood beside him until the very end. Many who are criticizing Bannon are affiliated with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a frequent target in Bannon’s war on establishment Republicans.

    [….]

At least two sitting Republican lawmakers hopped on the anti-Bannon wagon Wednesday morning. Rep. Adam Kinzinger disparaged Bannon as a “RINO” — Republican-in-name-only — and said his strategies were “morally inept” and not welcome in his party. New York Congressman Peter King, never afraid to speak his mind, took things a step further. “This guy does not belong on the political stage. He looks like some disheveled drunk that wondered onto the political stage,” King said of Bannon on CNN’s New Day Wednesday. “He does not represent anything I stand for.”

Still, some Republicans’ fingers are pointing elsewhere — particularly those connected to pro-Bannon hands. Fox News anchor Sean Hannity said McConnell deserves “a lot of the blame” for Moore’s loss because the majority leader backed Alabama Sen. Luther Strange in the initial Republican primary instead of Rep. Mo Brooks, who failed to make it to the Republican runoff. “Mo Brooks would have won by 20% of the vote, and McConnell interference hurt badly,” Hannity said on Twitter.

Dan Eberhart, a finance and oil executive, Republican donor and frequent McConnell critic, said Moore’s loss wasn’t necessarily referendum on Bannon, but reflected poorly on McConnell. “I think Bannon showed candidates he will stick by them when it gets tough. No matter what,” Eberhart wrote in an email to TIME. “This is a triple loss for McConnell: he blew [Senate Leadership Fund] and [National Republican Senatorial Committee] money, frustrated his relationship with Trump and lost in Alabama.”

I tend to agree with those that are blaming mitch (seen as an outsider even tho he was born in tuscumbia ala)  for pushing sen. strange.  according to other critters, neither strange nor roy were not the candidates favored to run in the 1st place.
it’s still a double loss for the twit since he backed both losers.

  23. ms roy moore and her man harred one a them Scribes, hey ? Matthew and Mark ain’t gonna gofer thayat.

  24. Trump Rating Hits Record Low

Pres. Trump’s current job rating stands at a net negative 32% approve and 56% disapprove. This marks his lowest rating in Monmouth’s polling since taking office in January. Prior polls conducted over the course of the past year showed his approval rating ranging from 39% to 43% and his disapproval rating ranging from 46% to 53%.

  25. excerpt from us news: Tina Smith Tapped As Al Franken’s Replacement For Minnesota Senate Seat
Smith plans to run for the seat Republicans will attempt to make competitive next November.
    …..

Smith is poised to become the 22nd female in the current U.S. Senate, and her ascension to incumbency is expected to give her an advantage in next year’s election. Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, speculated to be a potential Democratic rival, quickly threw his support behind her, “both now and when she runs in the 2018 special election.” Franken said Dayton “couldn’t have made a better choice for this job.”

  26. Listening to the Doug Jones press conference

I think the Dems were lucky to have him as the candidate

  27. But you just know they were deep-digging  to get some dirt on Doug Jones.

Here’s a hypothetical…….if the exact same circumstances as Franken happened to Doug jones right now would it still be zero tolerance?

  28. BiD

I use Facebook all the time.  Several friends and of course the granddaughter & great-granddaughters are there as well as some Scientific and political groups.

  29. Listening, reading and thinking about how Jones did yesterday leads me to think that he had the perfect conditions to win in a seat that usually goes 97% r 1% D 2% write-in.  BUT, a Dem ran for the seat and got votes.

Are we seeing the down slope of the Baby Boomers starting to affect white voting patterns?  I tend to think so.  Every time I am at the VA medical center I look at the other Vietnam Era veterans, pure Baby Boomers now that there are very few WWII and Korean veterans alive. When I look at them I see old men.  They are old.  Yes, we are a large voting block.  But, we are being replaced by the Millennial and X-Generation, a larger voting block.  Our children and grandchildren.

Can we Dems keep winning?  I think so.  The Greedy Old Perverts are now stuck with the moore effect.  Sort of like something slimy and sticky that gets on your hand and you cannot wipe or rub it off. They own the creepy pervert.

  30. Wow, Marcy Kaptur.  Really?  Women who dress inappropriately (in her view) are just asking for it.  Who made her head of the Taliban?   I’m guessing there’s some sort of dress code in Congress, as in most workplaces.  So, if she has a problem with noncompliance, she should address that.  But to spew a blanket potential-victim-blaming statement like that…   Wow. Just, wow.   It sounds like something Donny would tweet.

  31. Any idea about what is going on with SFB’s makeup?  I watched, not on purpose, a clip of him walking to the camera lights and making a left turn.  As he approached it looked like a lot of bright reflection of his face.  When he turned the corner it looked like he had bright white eyes and eye sockets along with bright white eyebrows.  Weird stuff in that makeup kit.

  32. Maybe his skin tone is called alt-right white & he would burst into flames without his protective, orange shell.

    **

None of the 20 & unders in my family uses FB, emails, or speaks to anyone one the phone.  Their handwriting is a print-cursive hybrid taught to them in school.  It’s all changing more and more quickly.

  33. FB is used by folks of all ages – who are over about 25. Tends to be a direct relationship with age. (Sorry, occupational hazard). In my line of work FaceBook is the devil. LP hasn’t used FB …, well … he has never used Facebook after he got his drivers license. Twitter, Snapchat, and there’s some other SM site I don’t even know about – those are his milieux.

The pugns are grasping for a clue over whose fault the Jones debacle was. Dumbass Moore is threatening a recount. As if he can count!  Shit, he can’t ride a horse but he wants to return to the time when that’s how folks got around. He could give SF a run for his money when it comes to dumbass.

  34. ‘Tis the season.

How many of you have seen a Wall of Snow? I know Flatus must have from his Cleveland days.

This picture is a couple years old but captures the spirit well. This particular Wall lingered south of Buffalo but was so huge & menacing it appeared close to my house a few miles away. I will always remember the feeling of dread & fear as I walked to my car, totally unaware of this force hovering nearby until I turned around … and … saw… it. An awesome terror of nature’s power over us all.

Bought a spanking brand new snow blower last summer & used it yesterday. Works swell.  😉

  35. Omarosa on GMA tomorrow.  She loved attention & will, of course, spin things to paint herself in the best light.  My bet is that she’ll play nice & try to play the long-con in case she can get more out of this down the road.
