Getting Closer

U.S. Constitution, 25th Amendment:

Section 1. In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.

Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Section 3. Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

Section 4.
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.
Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

  1. which goes to show you about national priorities, seems it’s worse to lie about a blow job than to lie about blowing up the constitution.

  2. “… tihs diputs a si fpmurD”

pogo, ‘fraid you have that backward.  🙂

but, truly, we seem to be living in a not-so-fun house mirror world where down is up, evil is good, lies and illogic rule.

  3. patd, do I?  Hmm, I wonder how that happened. 😉

Actually, new WaPo comment rules don’t allow many perjoratives that I just can’t avoid when talking about SF & the mewling acolytes who follow, worship and prop him up.

  4. I read a tweet by a conservative strategist yesterday that the “Overton Window” is now in play regarding the 25th Amendment. Had to look that one up, but was glad I did.

When did Keith Olbermann introduce this topic on one of his #TheResistance videos? Late November, 2016. It was video #4. Keith is now up to #134. The 130 videos in between? Every one a cry over a Trump outrage.

  5. mrdoodlesd…   glad to see you resurface!

Saw a snippet of some show on MSNBC last night talking about the 25th amendment…   the consensus was it wouldn’t happen.  Thought it would be a disaster for this country.  My thought… well sure… but it would be worst if SFB pushes that red button.

As a native New Englander…  I have rooted for many other teams across this country in all kinds of sports….    BUT…  never eva would or could I root for the damn Yankees!

  6. Happy Friday the 13th and does that commander-in-thief deliver!   His bomb tossing into the subsidies for the ACA?   Is as bad as the norks launching a bomb into the existential Yellowstone volcano.  My insurance fugue is back, bigger than ever.   Remember when I said trump was like the vegas shooter?  He is taking-out more citizens with his policies…sniping at us.   More humans losing their lives under this crumb of a man.   I wrote to my congressman, ‘snaggletooth pearce,’ to let him know he can’t govern or lead or be governor if he sits on his hands while the junta regresses and represses the fine citizens of New Mexico.

I turn 65 in December 2018….will she make it to Medicare?  trump is betting against me.  casino logic.    There are faster ways to get him out-of-office, give him a sharpie and tell him it is an exec order…instead it is the resignation letter, he will sign as he needs glasses, too.  He can’t see or think….the humperdoo of the repug party.

  7. If we haven’t invoked the 25th by now we probably won’t. Neither will congress impeach. It is now up to Mueller and I’m not sure that he has the smoking gun. This is going to be a long bumpy ride I fear.

  8. humperdoo is the only sitting president to address the value voter summit...they are ecstatic over the decimation of the ACA as religious freedom is the true meaning of the first amendment, not free speech.  How sick are these people?   nazis used the flag thing in the 1930s to jail its soon-to-be dead citizens just like trump and the NFL protest making it about the flag and veterans…not free speech or protest.

Damn you putie!  And it is easy to change voting machines in the US.  putie and ew….coming to a town near you!

  9. Hi, everyone, and thanks. Glad to resurface. Past due for some TrailMix. Twitter has been like a lifeline/narcotic/self-medication for me, and I thought maybe I should address that on my own. Self-care. After all, my Twitter addiction will be a non-covered, preexisting condition under TrumpDontCare.

No, I can’t see the 25thAmendment happening, either. But then I didn’t expect to see it addressed in conventional circles when Keith broached the subject ten months ago. The message I take from this is, things are moving, and quickly, considering we’re a nation of laws.

I  see the Weinstein stories as not quite a diversion from Trump/Russia/GetHimOutOfThere. They are going to take us back to Trump. The more we discover the depth and breadth of Weinstein’s literal power grabbing, the more we’ll realize the PeeTapes/Kompromat are probably closer to reality than science fiction.

  10. Mr. D, you get right to my point in bringing this up. 25th amendment has moved into that “window of discourse” even though the conversations end with everyone saying it won’t happen. But as you say, months ago it wasn’t deemed reasonable to even discuss it.

  11. For confirmation that SFB has no clue that the United States Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico are U.S. territories and the citizens are citizens of the United States is that he stated he met with the “president” of the Virgin Islands.  There is the possibility that he finally acknowledges he is not president of the U.S., but he fails to understand that HRC is the legitimate president, not the governor of USVI.

  12. Trump is on his second vomit inducing speech of the day.  I’m going to invest in barf bags.

  13. Just sayin’ our president is a moron and those who enable him are the same

  14. This mantis prays about five hours a day….need more mantis and they need to pray harder.

  15. mrdoodlesdog, thank you for remembering that ko vid.  had to look it up and here it is for all to tweet and retweet until it becomes so… kinda on the order of peter pan’s plea  “clap if you believe”

How to remove a maniac president from office — without having to get Congress to impeach him.

  16. craig & mr dd, something else “moved into that window of discourse” when sen sasse sassily invoked the possibility/likelihood that the twit has impeach ably violated his oath of office and reneged on upholding the constitution.

….in response to President Donald Trump raging on Twitter at NBC News and threatening to revoke their broadcasting license over a story he didn’t like, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) released a short statement asking Trump if he was recanting on his oath to protect the First Amendment.

after that a hot little discussion ensued between him and inanity (oops, Hannity) as reported by mediaite

  17. that very very conservative senator has kicked off some interesting discussion in the very very conservative blogosphere like this excerpt from constitution by one onan coca today “In Defense of Senator Ben Sasse”:

….Senator Sasse spoke out in defense of the 1st Amendment, reminding the President that he swore an oath to defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights (which includes CNN’s 1st Amendment right to speech the President doesn’t like).
    [….]
What Sasse, and other conservatives, are saying is that when President Trump strays from conservative ideology it is our duty to step in and explain to him that conservative values are always a better way to govern. Conservatives should fight for conservative ideas no matter who the President is.

As conservatives, making liberals angry shouldn’t be our end goal. Our goal should be to improve our world, secure our nation’s future, and to advance conservative ideas because conservative ideas are the best way to improve our world and secure our future. When any politician strays from conservative principles, it is we who should be calling them back to the sound foundation of limited government, greater personal liberty, and the inherent value of every individual. We should do these things even when the President is from our party.

Don’t blame Ben Sasse for standing for conservative principles, he’s only doing what we asked him to do when we elected him.

  18. In an extremely rare defense of our deadbeat pussypinching usurper, I contend that the airwaves are public property, and the number of frequencies available is limited. To keep order and fairness in the public airwaves, avoiding sprawl and encroachment, the government issues licenses to use the particular wavelengths. Therefore, the government has a say in who may use which wavelengths. Further, the government has the power to revoke the license of any person (corporations are people, too – willard) who uses the airwaves against the public interest. Therefore, the government can lift the NBC licenses w/o necessarily violating the 1st Amendment.

NBC would still be able to operate on cable. Government intervention in NBC cable operation would violate the 1st Amendment.

  19. Since Senator sasse is an idiot 59 23/24 minutes of every hour. Why suppose that the 1st Amendment query came during his 2.5 seconds of normal brain activity ?

  20. Exlax and LSD in his majesty’s chocolate cake – just before a REALLY big speech – might possibly help us to find another prez quickly.

However, it would be better to have LSD in pence’s chocolate cake a few weeks earlier, to prevent getting a nutty, but possibly effective, replacement usurper.

  21. XR, the licenses are to individual stations. WNBC would have one. NBC would not. That’s what the chatter’s about regarding SF’s threats.

  22. flynn, the dark web and email hacks.    grassley’s staffer, ledeen —

Flynn is personally and ideologically linked to Barbara Ledeen, a longtime conservative activist who works for the Republican senator Chuck Grassley on the Senate judiciary committee – which is now investigating alleged links between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Ledeen’s husband, Michael Ledeen, is also a confidant of Flynn, and co-authored a book with him last year.

Her family’s relationship with Flynn raises questions about whether Ledeen could be wielding influence over the investigation.

  23. THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION
    Scott Pruitt: Fuck the Planet
Jeff Sessions: Fuck Law & Order
    Betsy Devos: Fuck Education
    Sarah Sanders: Fuck the Truth
General John Kelly: Fuck My Life
    Rex Tillerson: Fucking Morons
    Donald Trump: Fuck America
    Vladimir Putin: Fucking Fantastic!

  24. Can you imagine what Trump allies would think if the FCC started looking at licenses.  All of AM radio is right wing .. force them to give equal time.  chortle glee glee.
