Sunday Serendipity

I ran across this Mozart motet a couple of weeks ago and saved it for later. I don’t usually care for “Operatic” style singing but in this case, I find Ms Richardson’s voice something I can listen to over and over. It is a beautiful way to begin the holiday season.

Enjoy, Jack

Exsultate, jubilate (Exult, rejoice), K. 165,  by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Suprano soloist, Nola Richardson

I’m with you Jack, on operatic style not my thing so much. But the quick, punchy pace of this is pleasing.

Uh-oh, look who’s scheming to stay in the game. Could Trump appoint him Special Counsel to terrorize the “Deep State”.

Matt Gaetz (on X):

“The Biden Administration has filled hundreds of pages of briefs in federal court claiming that Special Counsels do not require Senate confirmation. In case anyone was wondering…”

gaetz is to be the new ken starr?   ken stretched his sinecure as Independent Counsel into 4 taxpayer-paid years.

result of that hit job according to wiki:

Kenneth Starr’s successor as Independent Counsel, Robert Ray, released a report in September 2000, that stated “This office determined that the evidence was insufficient to prove to a jury beyond a reasonable doubt that either President or Mrs. Clinton knowingly participated in any criminal conduct.” Nevertheless, Ray criticized the White House saying that delays in the production of evidence and “unmeritorious litigation” by the president’s lawyers severely impeded the investigation’s progress, leading to a total cost of nearly $60 million. Ray’s report effectively closed the Whitewater investigation
[…]
The length, expense, and results of the Whitewater investigations turned the public against the Office of the Independent Counsel; even Kenneth Starr was opposed to it. The Independent Counsel law was allowed to expire in 1999.

The Atlantic: The Right Has a Bluesky Problem.

“The X exodus is weakening a way for conservatives to speak to the masses… According to Similarweb, a social-media analytics company, the week after the election corresponded with the biggest spike in account deactivations on X since Musk’s takeover of the site. Many of these users have fled to Bluesky: The Twitter-like microblogging platform has added about 10 million new accounts since October.”

My plan is to escape reality. I Deleted Twitter.  I can’t watch news.  So far only drop by here on Sunday to keep up with Jack’s offerings, always fine; but otherwise I’ll have no further truck with politics and current events.  It all just sucks and is likely to continue that way.  I can’t go thru 4 more years of grinding my teeth over the criminal element having been voted into power by a coalition of jackals, hyena, and morons so I just intend to withdraw from all of that and concentrate on things which don’t irritate me.   Fortunately I actually know how to do that, it involves guitars and pianos and a few kids here and there.  Good luck to  everyone.

Sturg – Thank  you for checking in to let us know you’re OK.  We all need our Sunday sound sorbet from w’jack, and I also miss the late night musical offerings from you & Bink.

Folks, I couldn’t find any rhubarb to make pie this summer; not from a neighbor nor a store. We are getting slips from a relative over Thanksgiving to plant here.  In the meantime, Marie Calendar makes a strawberry-rhubarb pie, so I baked that last night.  Not as good as Grandma’s; it needed more rhubarb. What are y’all doing for Thanksgiving dessert?

POTUS Joe could pardon a bunch of humans when he pardon the turkeys this week.
Eh, he’s probably waiting until the 11th hour, so the MAGAts don’t have time to react.

Moved my turkey over to thaw a couple days ago. I’m going for a 3-day salt brine and 1-day in seasoning. The dirty secret is turkey meat really isn’t that good, why we go nuts with sides. But serious prep can boost the flavor.

craig, all that brining and seasoning reminds me of the old cowboy joke about a recipe for carp: roast it in a cow paddy and when it’s done throw away the carp and eat the cow paddy.

This morning I was strolling through the strange and weird aisle of YouTube channels (just the recommended) and saw a video of an American who emigrated to France. One of the items she said she saw in France was rhubarb.  That got me thinking that I have not seen a plant of it since I left my home over twenty years ago.  A planting project for next year is a rhubarb patch.  I still have difficulties imagining me eating that raw as a child.

Big Bucks Bigotry. CNN says Republicans spent $60 million in TV ads attacking Transgender people in just the last four months of the campaign. (More than 10% of their entire budget)

How worthy are we Transgender people that the magats spent almost thirty eight dollars on hate for each one of us.

How can you miss with Mozart?  You can’t.  Like you, Jack, in general I’m not a great fan of opera – at least not of operatic singing (with a few notable exceptions), but Wolfie could write a good one.

Thank you, Jack.  That was sprightly and joyous.

Sturgeone,  Good seeing you.  Drop by with music anytime.  You might visit Blue Sky.  The way you can order your lists means you can see nothing but the subjects you like.  I have one that is nothing but music.

I love opera! Thanks, Jack.

Good to see you, Sturge. Keep coming back whenever and whatever. Together we can make it.

What are y’all doing for Thanksgiving dessert?

Pumpkin pie, of course, BID. I would love to make Craig’s luscious chocolate pie, but somebody else got dibs on that first.

Poobah, I’m going to smoke our turkey this year, and while I’m not going to brine it (Mrs. P isn’t fond of salty) I am going to slather between the skin and meat with softened butter and Old Bay (Yes, I know, salt).  Never tried Old Bay as a turkey seasoning but on a recommendation from my BFF from Tuscaloosa days, with whom I used to frequent Dreamland BBQ to gorge on the best ribs in Bama, and share similar taste in beer as well (which we used to brew together) I’m giving it a shot. And I do have to say that seasoned only with salt, pepper, sage and thyme, I actually LIKE the taste of turkey meat.

Jack…   great selection!

Sturg…   thanks for weighing in….  methinks a lot of people will be doing what you’re doing.

We go to Rick’s brother’s house…. he loves to cook.  My favorite dessert is pecan pie…   I only eat it at this time of year.   And yes….  I like turkey breast if it’s cooked right (Dan’s always is!).

As for politics…  I’m paying less attention to it right now.

We are doing the beer garden on Tuesday and then son and grandson are going to Vancouver for combo Thanks/Xmas with stepson’s family as they have a new baby girl.  I shall be binge reading in solitude.

I tried this a long time ago with a chicken. I’m gonna roast my turkey on a bed of peppers that can be sides: Cubanelles, shishitos, poblanos, bells and jalapeños. Also toast cumin seeds and red chili peppers with chopped garlic in melted clarified butter for the rub.

I shall mostly be alone on Thanksgiving, as I’m not heading up to the extended-family dinner.  If the weather is good (forecast keeps changing), I visit my dad at the assisted living home.

We are doing some sort of a meal here on Friday, so I’ll get our dad over here that day.  Pumpkin pie.

Had forgotten about PHC & their weekly rhubarb pie bit. Thanks.

Didn’t run for Congress to run to the bathroom…

IvyGreen

Because every single time we hear the incoming administration or Republicans in Congress talk about any vulnerable group in this country, we have to be clear that it is an attempt to distract. It is an attempt to distract from what they are actually doing. Every single time, every single time we hear them say the word trans, look what they’re doing with their right hand. Look at what they’re doing to pick the pocket of American workers, to fleece seniors by privatizing Social Security and Medicare. Look what they’re doing undermining workers. And here’s also what we have to be clear about, because I think the last week has been a prime example of this. Every bit of time and energy that is used to divert the attention of federal government to go after trans people is time and energy that is not focused on addressing the cost of living for our constituents. And we have to be clear that there is a real cost for the American worker every time they focus on this.

Jack, hear ya about day after turkey dishes and can’t disagree. BUT, day of is what we have to go through to reach the day after delights. Tryptophan rules.
So tomorrow the bird moves from freezer to fridge on its way to the smoker. I frankly love this trip.

You don’t get the keys until you sign the papers.

The Trump transition’s unprecedented delay in signing the agreements has so far prevented the incoming administration from having any formal contact with federal agencies, including sending in groups of policy advisers known as “landing teams.” It also means they can’t access cybersecurity support or secure email servers for transition-related work, or request FBI background checks for their nominees.
