  1. BTW, according to Cagle Cartoons Inc, this about today’s cartoonist, a Canadian and children’s book author/illustrator:

Dave Whamond’s work has appeared in magazines and newspapers including Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, Readers Digest and many more. He has won 7 Silver Reubens from the National Cartoonists Society and several book awards. Dave has written and/or illustrated over 50 books and his syndicated comic, “Reality Check”, has appeared in newspapers since 1995.

  2. The former president spent his weekend making speeches on the campaign trail where he revealed his true feelings about his voters, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene likened him to the son of God.

  3. but how does Faux News (you know the purported “most-watched cable news” outfit) cover the speech?

[starts off with his quotes about “Biden crime family” ignoring the crazier stuff]
Trump later targeted Biden’s age, mental fitness and frequent vacations to the beaches of Delaware, saying, “This guy goes to the beach all the time. Somebody thinks he looks good in a bathing suit. I don’t know.”
“He’s not old, he’s incompetent,” he added, stating he took a “second” cognitive test and that he “aced” them both.
“Biden should have a cognitive test, and before the debate in two weeks he should take a drug test,” Trump said.

  4. The lack of coverage of Dumbass’ insane ramblings is ridiculous. My message to MSM news, “Just fucking cover it. Do your job fuhchrissake.” And put it on every goddamn social media news platform.

  5. Patd,

[starts off with his quotes about “Biden crime family” ignoring the crazier stuff]Trump later targeted Biden’s age, mental fitness and frequent vacations to the beaches of Delaware, saying, “This guy goes to the beach all the time. Somebody thinks he looks good in a bathing suit. I don’t know.”

Which was said in one of the few hours he’s not been in a courtroom or at one of his golf cours s or club in FL The difference between Biden and Dumbass is that Biden goes to his beach house on weekends. Dumbass didn’t bother to wait for weekends to waste half a day playing golf after wasting his mornings watching TV and spending an hour in the Oval Office receiving sycophants and donors and lying to the public about Covid and any other issues that arose.

  6. Hannity is already floating the idea of Trump backing out of the debate. You know he got this from Trump.

Hannity last night: “Donald Trump might be wise to just pass on the first debate” (6/10/24). Watch Video.

Trump isn’t going to debate. He can’t. He doesn’t have the capacity. It’d be a disaster.

So now folks like Hannity will cast it as a ‘smart’ decision for him not to debate….which is exactly the cover they gave him in the GOP primary.

    Pathetic.

  7. Pogo, you beat me to it.  Only MCNBC is getting the Nevada meltdown covered properly.  NBC Nightly basically ignored it.  Yesterday Katty Kay (Brit-Swiss journo, 59 years old)  told the TV audience to watch Fox News to get a balanced view of news.  Well, I can’t watch that stuff. Katty can fill me in on what crap Fox disinformation is spewing.  I won’t watch Fox if I am in control of the clicker.
I guess I was hoping to watch Joe trash Trump in the proposed scheduled debate…I hadn’t thought Trump might cancel. I also am not surprised, of course.

  8. Eugene Robinson: Is Donald Trump okay?

We in the media have failed by becoming inured to Trump’s verbal incontinence — not just the rapid-fire lies and revenge-seeking threats, but also the frightening glimpses into a mind that is, evidently, unwell.”

  9. Eugene Robinson gets it. WaPo

It is irresponsible to obsess over President Biden’s tendency to mangle a couple of words in a speech while Donald Trump is out there sounding detached from reality. Biden, who is old, at least makes sense. Trump, who also is old, rants like someone you’d cross the street to avoid.

We in the media have failed by becoming inured to Trump’s verbal incontinence — not just the rapid-fire lies and revenge-seeking threats, but also  the frightening glimpses into a mind that is, evidently, unwell. In 2016, Trump said outrageous things at his campaign rallies to be entertaining. In 2024, his tangents raise serious questions about his mental fitness.

His rally on Sunday in Las Vegas offered a grim smorgasbord of examples, but the obvious standout (and not in a good way) is the story he told about being aboard a hypothetical electric-powered boat. He posits that the battery would be so heavy that it would cause the craft to sink, and he relates his purported conversation with a knowledgeable mariner about this scenario. Bear with me, but it’s worth reading the passage in full:

“I say, ‘What would happen if the boat sank from its weight, and you’re in the boat, and you have this tremendously powerful battery, and the battery’s now underwater, and there’s a shark that’s approximately 10 yards over there?’

“By the way, a lot of shark attacks lately, do you notice that? Lot of sharks. I watched some guys justifying it today: ‘Well they weren’t really that angry, they bit off the young lady’s leg because of the fact that they were not hungry but they misunderstood who she was.’ These people are crazy. He said, ‘There’s no problem with sharks, they just didn’t really understand a young woman swimming.’ No, really got decimated, and other people, too, a lot of shark attacks.

“So I said, ‘There’s a shark 10 yards away from the boat, 10 yards, or here. Do I get electrocuted if the boat is sinking, water goes over the battery, the boat is sinking? Do I stay on top of the boat and get electrocuted, or do I jump over by the shark and not get electrocuted?’ Because I will tell you, he didn’t know the answer.

“He said, ‘You know, nobody’s ever asked me that question.’ I said, ‘I think it’s a good question. I think there’s a lot of electric current coming through that water.’ But you know what I’d do if there was a shark or you get electrocuted? I’ll take electrocution every single time. I’m not getting near the shark. So we’re going to end that, we’re going to end it for boats, we’re going to end it for trucks.”

Jesus H. There’s your cognitive test for Dumbass. The strings that connect mos of us to the world around us are broken and frayed in this one.

  10. Mediaite’s coverage of hannity last night on whether to or not to debate:

Fox News host Sean Hannity argued on Monday that the decision to mute former President Donald Trump’s microphone during the first presidential debate this month could end up working in his favor.
During a discussion on Hannity about Trump’s upcoming CNN presidential debate with President Joe Biden, Hannity warned that while Biden could “barely string sentences together” in his current state, the debate could “see the return of jacked up Joe.”
“Whatever Joe drank, ate, took before the State of the Union – maybe it was just Red Bull and caffeine pills, I don’t know – whatever it was, that was not the normal Joe,” said Hannity. “We never saw it before and we haven’t seen it since, but we will see it for the debate.”
He continued, “Now, there are some even saying, Mark, that Donald Trump might be wise to just pass on the first debate, wait until he’s nominated, then debate him. What would you say to that?”
Harris Poll chairman Mark Penn replied, “I’d say he accepted it. He accepted it in the lion’s den. If I were Donald Trump, I would have done some better negotiating here, but I don’t think he can back out now without really looking cowardly.”
Penn argued, “I think Biden has, you know, said he’s gonna meet the challenge. I think it’s a big test. Whether you think he’s jacked up or not, if he can get through that debate, he’ll lift his campaign, and if he can’t, I suspect it might actually be in some jeopardy.”
Hannity then suggested, “Joe might have done Donald Trump a favor, and I say this affectionately, by insisting that when it’s not his turn to speak that they mute his microphone, ’cause I think that was a mistake in the first debate in 2020.”
The first presidential debate of 2020 was widely panned as one of the worst in history, with Trump repeatedly talking over Biden and refusing to let him speak.
“That was the worst presidential debate I have ever seen in my life,” said ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos at the time, while CNN correspondent Dana Bash described the event as a “shitshow.”

  11. Mark Penn. truly disgusting

Trump is cra cra and his handlers will not let him off the leash to debate especially given his recent performances.

  12. The question will be whether or not there’s a majority of maggers plus others who want to see, hear and vote for cray cray because they themselves are cray cray.  If those demographics are in favor of cray cray, his handlers will crank up the volume on the cray cray.  By the end of the summer we’ll all be stark, raving cray cray.

  13. Interesting. A Secret Service employee on the Hunter jury. 4 with friends or family with addiction issues.

I had thought prosecution case seemed like a slam dunk against until they actually tried it. They really went overboard humiliating him with pics and texts and stuff, reduced his daughter to tears badgering her on the stand, and even attacked the First Lady for being in the courtroom during closing arguments.

If sympathy for a drug addict could lead to acquittal, prosecutors helped make it happen.

  14. Let’s see how they try and spin the ones they like against the ones they don’t.  Time for Hunter to start slowing the process down.

  15. Here’s what we WON’T be hearing today from Biden world:

    – attacks on the justice department

    – accusations of government collusion

    – undermining of the separation of powers

    – character assassinations against prosecutors and the presiding Judge and jury.

  16. Looks like Biden ISN’T micro-managing the Justice Dpt., so sad for trump’s narrative 😆

  17. CNN Manu Raju: Just asked Speaker Mike Johnson if Hunter Biden’s conviction undercuts the GOP narrative that there’s a two-tiered justice system designed to hurt Republicans.

“It doesn’t,” he said. “Every case is different. And clearly the evidence was overwhelming here. I don’t think that’s the case in the Trump trials.”

  18. Biden makes first comment after Hunter’s conviction: ‘I will accept the outcome’ (msn.com)

President Joe Biden, in his first comment after Hunter Biden was found guilty on all three counts in his federal gun trial, expressed love for his son and vowed to accept the verdict handed down by the jury on Tuesday.
Biden reiterated much of his statement from when the trial kicked off on June 3.
“As I said last week, I am the President, but I am also a Dad,” Biden said. “Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery.”
“As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal,” the president added. “Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that.”

  19. It looks like 538 is pushing for a  flip-a-coin election.   If the MSM would do their jobs…but they want a tight race, too.

Here’s the thing, playing up to tRUMPsky and his MAGAts will give them cover if it isn’t a close race. They will point to the polls.

It’s harder to cheat (or think they have a reason to throw a violent hissy) if it isn’t close.

The View is more trustworthy than any evening news program when it comes to covering Orange Adolf’s melting brain.

  20. Today’s media has built an entire entertainment industry on “trump”…   especially cable news media.  It’s trump all day long… every day.  When trump goes away…  and eventually he will… what the hell are they going to do then.
And if I feel that it’s out of control… I can only imagine what the average person thinks of it.

  21. the fear box is just exploiting the older people that are the only ones watching it who tend to skew conservative and anxious

make dat $$$ until the business model collapses

the streaming sevices want the prestige of included news so the cable outlets just have to put out a branded product to license so the logo show up on menus, it doesn’t have to be good product, it just has to be “news”, that’s all they’re doing, lazily producing filler content

  22. Ok, i enjoyed Olbermann today, he’s mixing it up, having fun, and i appreciated his concession that not everyone is interested in sports and yet listened to the sports segment anyway 🫡 🎙️ ✌️

  23. Close polling numbers are also really good for both sides when it comes to fundraising.

  24. it’s out of control

Renee, I’m catching up with friends in Birmingham this week. Even here, everyone claims they’re tuning out of the news because it’s all too much.

  25. Seeing comments to look out for misconstrued headlines implying that Joe was found guilty. Low information voters amounts to wrong information voters.

  26. Today’s sports  segment reminded me of the time they concocted this virtual “fight” between Muhammad Ali and Rocky Marciano and then declared Marciano the winner. Ha, Ali would have smacked Marciano around like post-spinach Popeye.

Now that I think about it, I saw Marciano fights on television. Sugar Ray Robinson, Floyd Patterson, I used to see all those guys on the Friday night Gillette Cavalcade of Sports with my dad while me mom was off to the Eastern Star with Myrtle Hayes.

  27. TBR:

Fred C. Trump III, the nephew of former President Donald J. Trump and the older brother of Mary Trump, will publish a memoir about the Trump family, according to his publisher, Simon & Schuster.
The memoir, titled “All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way,” is set to come out on July 30 from Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster — just a few months before the 2024 presidential election, in which former President Trump is running as the presumptive Republican nominee against President Joe Biden.
Gallery described the memoir as a “candid and revealing” account of what it was like to grow up in the Trump family, and noted that the book will include “never-before-told stories” that shed “a light into the darker corner of the Trump empire.” The publisher also stated that Mr. Trump was motivated to tell his family’s story because of the upcoming election, and suggested that his book could “shape the decision of a nation.” It was not clear to what extent “All in the Family” would focus on former President Trump, or in what light. Gallery declined to share more information about the book beyond a brief description.

  28. Stump wants to fix the economy—he just wants to fix it for the wrong people.

He wants to fix it like they used to fix all those prize fights.

  29. I didnt see Babe Ruth play baseball.  But I did see Nellie Fox, Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, and Jimmy Piersall. I would like to have seen Dizzy Dean pitch.

  30. https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/11/opinions/scary-results-from-16-year-olds-voting-first-time-germany-hockenos/index.html

What a shock then – and coming days after the 80th anniversary of D-Day — that many German first-timers threw their votes disproportionally behind the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. In this election, 16% of 16 to 24-year-olds voted AfD — up 11% from five years ago. (To be sure, the majority of teens didn’t vote for the far right. But the increase in the number who did is nonetheless alarming.)

“The AfD, whose members repeat banned Nazi slogans and tout barely veiled racism and Islamophobia, claimed almost as much of the youth vote as the victorious Christian Democratic Union-Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) alliance, and far more than the Greens.
Exit polls show that the topic of migration swung many voters —– of all ages — to the right. A full 95% of German AfD voters said Germany should limit the flow of foreigners and refugees into Germany. Nearly as many said they don’t care if the AfD is an extreme right-wing party, as long as it addresses the most important topics.
The latter assertion is the more unnerving as the AfD has made no secret of its extremist credentials. Just before the election, on May 20, the party’s lead candidate, Maximilian Krah, announced that members of the Nazis’ notorious paramilitary troops, the SS, weren’t automatically criminals.”

  31. Why can’t Miss Martha-Ann fly a normal American flag right-side up?

(The rest of us learned that in Girl Scouts.)
