  1. the surprise was on me. first nothing was pre-posted by ever trusty trail friend Jack (who I sincerely hope is okay and not blown away by yesterday’s spring storms), second youtube went haywire on me and third the dashboard edit wouldn’t edit – so take your pick of scenery and either the CBC Radio orchestra or Minnesota orchestra version.

    sorry about the redundancy.

  2. S is not only for springtime but also for schadenfreude-time

Residents push for renaming of Trump Plaza to disassociate from ex-president | Donald Trump | The Guardian

While Donald Trump endures the ignominy of being the first former US president to face criminal trial, there is further humiliation brewing, with a movement to strip the Trump name from a building in his home state.
Residents at Trump Plaza, a 40-story high-rise in the suburban New York city of New Rochelle, are pushing for the building to be renamed and to escape a near-two decade association with the legally-troubled ex-president and real estate mogul.
It would follow the slew of buildings in New York City and elsewhere that have abandoned the Trump name since he entered politics, as Trump has become a divisive, much-loathed figure by liberals even as he is loved by his fans.
Owners of Trump Plaza apartments – there are 194 units – are in the middle of a vote which would further erase Trump’s name – something which would not just have implications for the people who live in the building.
Trump Plaza is located in the center of New Rochelle, a couple of blocks from restaurants and the local movie theater. Renaming the building would spare residents and workers in this racially diverse city of 80,000 people from encountering, at least visually, the Trump name.

  3. CNN: How Johnson came to embrace Ukraine aid and defy his right flank

I’m glad he was awakened to the facts. BUT he had to get a briefing from the CIA director to figure this out??? A high school history student could see what’s at stake…

“Johnson received a key intelligence briefing from CIA Director Bill Burns, who painted a picture of the dire situation on the battlefield in Ukraine and the global consequences of inaction, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. The briefing left a lasting impression, and Johnson became increasingly convinced the fate of Western democracy was on his shoulders, sources close to him said.”

  4. Hah!  New Rochelle isn’t as stupid as Dumbass thinks.
Ivy, El Zun Zun was terrific. Me, sis and her family loved it.

  5. Pat, Good selection! and I agree with craig You can’t have too much Copeland.
As to me, everything is fine, but as one day seems just like the rest, I lose track. My bad.
Maybe, I need to set an alarm on my phone to remind me, but that would require the phone to be in the same room as I am in, it rarely is. I wonder if I could send myself a text message?  I might actually see that sometime during the day.
    Jack

  6. Ya know, I do have some sympathy for Johnson. It can’t be fun dealing with his nut cases and he has to deal with some “interesting” ones.
I didn’t think he would get it done but yet again at the last minute he came through. He does seem to be willing to govern, which is rare in Republican circles these days.
    Jack

  7. As we get lost in the Donald Trump trials and the legal back and forth, we sometimes seem to forget just how bad he was as a President. Yesterday I ran across this substack page. It details just how bad Trump was 4 years ago and this was just with the covid crises.
It starts like this but read the whole thing, here, it is good history.

As we approach the four-year anniversary of Donald Trump suggesting from the White House podium that bleach injections could be a miracle covid cure, it’s worth underscoring that despite Republicans would have you believe, Trump’s presidency did not end in 2019.
In fact, despite all the other horrors of the Trump presidency — the family separation policy, stacking the Supreme Court with right-wing ideologues, the coup attempt — Trump’s mishandling of covid in 2020 should on its own disqualify him from ever again holding office.
It can be hard to remember now with the pandemic receding from view, but covid absolutely dominated our lives in 2020. And conservatives are eager to help you forget.

  8. A number of you do an obnoxious name for Trump Instead of his real name. I thought about it andhave come to the conclusion that “Trump” works as it is obnoxious enough.
    Jack

  9. Glad all is well with you Jack

Pat thanks for the Copeland.  I’ll echo everyone voting for all the Copeland we can get.

Since Trump is another definition for Fart and given rumors of the odors issuing from same, Trump will definitely serve as bad enough to use for evil doings.

  10. Thank you, Pat, for stepping into the breach with a great selection.

Jack, glad you’re okay, keep rolling, no worries.

Pogo, happy to hear you enjoyed El ZunZún (which means hummingbird), Cahaba Heights has come a long way since it was Mudtown and even further since Vestavia annexed it over local objections. The 2011 tornadoes did a lot of damage, but it looks amazing now, a great place to live and let live.

  11. Jack, it’s hard for me to use his “real name” even though it is obnoxious on its own merits, pronouncing it makes a sound like bodily emission, and, ironically, not his family’s real name. But because he’s so overweeningly prideful of it, I’d rather not give him that.

  12. Ivy,
I guess for me, after reading the link I posted above it is hard for me to believe any one could be proud of that name. For me it represents the worst form of ignorance and shoddy behavior.
    Jack

  13. Jack, certainly the name is odious enough for those of us who wish him only the worst, but I like to think an inherently offensive descriptive name pisses the con’s cons off.

Ivy, been a while since I’ve been to Cahaba Heights. It’s definitely not what it used to be.

  14. Well, Sams Club just opened for the day, they have potting soil  on sale. Time to get busy and plant those flowers I bought yesterday.
Have a good day, it is cool and sunny outside, should be a good day for yard work.
    Jack

  15. To those who might find themselves in the NYC Courthouse next week, and who might happen to spot some hollow ancient eyes—maybe stop and say, “Hello in there…………turdlap.”

  16. Correct my memory if faulty, but there was a period during the previous administration that we thought he might have “tracker-hackers” tracing every mention of his name online and, therefore, using it in public could put yourself at risk from his goons.

  17. Wow! As CNN host Dana Bash just told him, “that was intense”.

TX Republican Tony Gonzalez on his party crazies:

“I serve with some scumbags. Matt Gaetz paid minors to have sex with him at drug parties. Bob Good endorses neo-Nazis. These people used to walk around with white hoods at night. Now they’re in white hoods in the daytime.”

  18. it is hard for me to believe any one could be proud of that name

Dr. Mary Trump talks in her book how proud the family was of their name, and she was always proud of it herself before her uncle ruined it.
Somewhere (maybe in a different book or article) it was mentioned that Ivanka’s big fear when her father divorced her mother, “divorced them,” that they wouldn’t still be Trumps.

  19. The very idea of what those people did while infesting the White House is nausea-inducing.

And then…….to turn around and attempt to despoil the election and seize power like a two-dollar tin pot Latin American dictator………

Lower than 8 snakes’ bellies in a muddy wagon rut.

  20. Representative Spratz, who was born in Ukraine, voted nay on the aid package.
      https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2024151

I found this no vote to be troublesome.  Is she a Putin plant?

Kudos to MAGAt Mike for doing the right thing (however he arrived at his decision), but he is not Churchill.  He’s still a MAGAt and he would like a Republican President to usher in Project 2025, which would be an end to American democracy.

Why didn’t they vote on the bi-partisan border bill?   Republicans only want power.  They are not serious about anything else.

  21. Another sign RFK Jr hurts Trump more. He’s going down among Democrats the more they learn about him, but picking up anti-vaccine, pro-J6 riot Republicans.

  22. Ivy, those “tracker-hackers” tracing every mention of his name online from what I read were there to count how much attention he was getting (probably more to feed his ego than for revenge or for both).  that’s why I tried to avoid using it.   kinda prefer the sound of the old family name and applauded john oliver’s “make Donald Drumpf again” effort.

Jack, glad you’re okay.  was mightily worried this morning.  I remember last week you had a hard time deciding between the lark and app spring so I went for the copeland to settle the dilemma.

Melania Trump launches $245 Mother’s Day necklace | The Hill

Former First Lady Melania Trump launched a customizable necklace for Mother’s Day on Sunday to thank and honor “all mothers” ahead of next month’s holiday.

The $245 necklace, titled “Her Love & Gratitude,” became available starting Sunday morning on the former first lady’s website and features a flower pendant and an adjustable chain.

The necklace can be engraved with names, initials or significant dates, according to a statement from Melania Trump’s office

    […]

The former first lady has been largely absent from her husband, former President Trump’s reelection campaign in recent months. She will make a rare appearance next weekend at a fundraiser at the home she and Trump share in Palm Beach, Fla.

  24. Alito Surge coming to Nevada. BREAKING: Nevada Supreme Court allows abortion measure to be on the ballot this November. If passed, the measure would enshrine the right to abortion in the state constitution.

  25. https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/21/politics/supreme-court-debate-cities-punish-homeless/index.html
“On any given night, that study found, more than 650,000 people in the United States are unhoused – including roughly 40% without adequate shelter.”

“In the most significant appeal involving unhoused Americans to reach the high court in decades, the justices will hear arguments Monday on whether ticketing people who live on the streets is “cruel and unusual” and violates the Eighth Amendment.”

“Between 2022 and 2023, the number of people experiencing homelessness increased 12%, according to a Department of Housing and Urban Development report in December.”

“I can see where the policymakers are coming from. I just think that it’s so broad to say we’re going ticket you for just simply existing,” said Mary Ferrell, executive director of the Maslow Project, a nonprofit that works with homeless children in Grants Pass. “The sense on the ground is that the city just doesn’t want people experiencing homelessness – period.”

“City officials argue the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition on “cruel and unusual” punishment was aimed at torture or hard labor sentences imposed by 18th century kings, not tickets handed out by police. Homelessness, they say, is a challenge in terms of public safety and health, not a constitutional matter for courts to decide.”

They can’t pay the ticket, they are arrested and temporarily housed in a jail?  Maybe built affordable housing, subsidize housing, provide mental healthcare, jobs programs, increase the minimum wage.   There’s no end to the things that could be done if the will were there.

  26. Can the rest of the House censure mTg for being Putin’s lapdog?

She’s a chaos machine and she needs to be put on notice.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene calls on Johnson to resign after foreign aid bills pass: ‘If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated’

Maybe Dems can get enough Repugz on board to make Hakeem Jeffries the new SOTH if she goes through with her little stunt.

  27. Think back a little over twenty years ago and how you felt listening to the stupid nicknames the village idiot gave to people.  Now think to twenty-fifteen and on about what you think of the absolute idiocy sfb is like.  It is taking popcorn showers and substituting I-beams.
The guy is being taunted into becoming a martyr by messing around and going to jail.  FAFO.  Hope the low intelligence drain clog does it.

  28. https://www.texastribune.org/2024/04/19/texas-medicaid-private-nursing-children/

“A proposed rule change from the state’s Health and Human Services Commission would not allow an adult “to be away from the home for any period of time” whenever a nurse is providing services, according to documents obtained by The Texas Tribune.

“If the rule change became official, Sales would have few options: to pay for an extra caregiver to stay home while she works, which she can’t afford, to put her child in an institution like a skilled nursing home, or, to quit her job and stay home with the nurse at all times. Neal, who has a congenital heart defect, is paraplegic and has undergone chemotherapy for cancer needs constant care.

“If I don’t work, then there’s no roof,” Sales said of being a single mom. “I don’t have a backup plan or support system because I am the backup plan and the support system.”

“Even parents who work from home fear the change could impact their ability to leave the house for any reason, such as buying groceries, going to doctors appointments or running other errands.
Some advocates have argued the rule change wouldn’t just harm patients and their families — it also denigrates nurses by equating the medical care they provide with child care, or suggesting another adult needs to be with the nurse at all times.

“…it isn’t fair to call nursing care “child care” just because a parent is away.”

“The rule draft has befuddled advocates, both because it’s not clear why the change is necessary, and because the concept has been introduced before and received public rancor, they said.

“It’s not really clear why,” said Terry Anstee, an attorney for disability advocacy organization Disability Rights Texas. “The rationale from the Health and Human Services Commission keeps changing.”

It sounds like they want women to stay home with their kids.

  29. It’s not the “messing around,” though.  It’s the cover up.
What’s up next? Georgia or J6?

“Israeli strikes on southern Gaza city of Rafah kill 22, mostly children, as US advances aid package”

“Israel has carried out near-daily air raids on Rafah, where more than half of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million has sought refuge from fighting elsewhere. It has also vowed to expand its ground offensive against the Hamas militant group to the city on the border with Egypt despite calls for restraint, including from the U.S.”

“In the coming days, we will increase the political and military pressure on Hamas because this is the only way to bring back our hostages and achieve victory. We will land more and painful blows on Hamas — soon,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

    “He didn’t give details.”

Well, of course he didn’t. As was noted on the morning show, there was no need for aid to Israel at this time; the new aid is two years away from being used.  Is it time for regime change in Israel, because Netanyahu will use an ongoing war to try to stay in power and out of jail.    And, this hurts Biden. It’s almost like Bibi is also doing this to help Orange Adolf.

“The first Israeli strike in Rafah killed a man, his wife and their 3-year-old child, according to the nearby Kuwaiti Hospital, which received the bodies. The woman was pregnant and the doctors saved the baby, the hospital said.”

“The second strike killed 17 children and two women from an extended family.”

    ~Way to target Hamas, Bibi~

  31. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/04/new-hampshire-republicans-polio-mmr-measles-vaccine-antivax-bill/

“New Hampshire’s GOP Is Taking a Stand—Against the Polio Vaccine
The Granite State could be the first to ditch polio and measles requirements for childcare.”

“A first-in-the-nation bill that’s already passed New Hampshire’s state House, sponsored only by Republican legislators, would end the requirement for parents enrolling kids in childcare to provide documentation of polio and measles vaccination.”

”New Hampshire would be the only state in the US to have such a law, although many states allow religious exemptionsto vaccine requirements.”
“Currently, Republicans control New Hampshire’s state House, Senate and governor’s office—but that isn’t a guarantee that the bill will be signed into law, with GOP Gov. Chris Sununu seemingly flip-flopping when it comes to disease control.”

  32. Interesting to see that CNN headline news has decided not cover Gaza all day, despite Israel killing no one except civilians (mostly children) in Rafah, nor do you see much about Ukraine anymore other than the aid package.
