A change from the usual classical symphony or Sunday jazz, today we get an eclectic mix of bluegrass, blues, gospel, roots and world music all done with Jazz styling thrown in. A great concert by one of my favorite performers Rhiannon Giddens.
I have listened to it twice this week and will do so again today.
Enjoy, Jack
jack, thanks. what a unique compilation,
BTW, was that beginning prolonged sound coming from a bagpipe or an electronic instrument (first thought it might be a mic squeal, but it matched just the right note she was singing so it had to be purposeful).
guess there’ll be fewer door-to-door campaigning, girl scout cookie or help high school band sales and neighbors borrowing cups of sugar anymore from the looks of these recent cartoons of dark humor.

Jack,
Thank you for today’s serendipity. Rhiannon Giddens is a treasure.
Glad to have you back.

I believe it was the accordion player. Between it and the bass player putting in the low hum it very much sounded bagpipe like.
He does some interesting things with his accordion. Not your Grandpa’s ompah band recording.
Jack
jack, yeah the bass player must have had a role cause it’s awfully hard to prolong that long a note and not have an extra squeeze sound or slight breath sound on a wind/brass instrument without help from some friends to cover. very haunting.
I had a problem logging in this morning but seems to be fixed now.
Awesome pick, Jack. My hubs (erstwhile musician) acquainted me with Rhiannon Giddens a few years ago. Later, I took particular notice when she was featured in Ken Burns’ country music film.

Ivey, I had problems too mostly when trying to comment. It took me 3 trys to post the above comment and I wasn’t certain it went through. So was surprised to see it when I came back just now.
Jack
Jack, thanks, it sounds like we had the same issue. I could see the post, but when I tried to comment, it went “Oops.” I wondered if it was just me.
