Sunday Serendipity

Something different and beautiful.

Enjoy Jack

From the video notes:

The history making trio of Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Mark O’Connor perform O’Connor’s composition ‘Poem for Carlita” at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. The three virtuoso string players performed this new American Classical music with such depth, passion and detail that the New York City audience erupted in an ovation after Yo-Yo Ma’s final – nearly silent harmonic note. Notice the look of admiration on O’Connor’s face as he looks at Ma at the conclusion of the piece, impressed by the cellist’s interpretive skills of his music. It is evident that this performance went to a new place for the trio and a new level for American Classical string playing.

  1. now to break that wonderful spell, it’s you-know-what LIVE!

Attorney General Merrick Garland (Mikey Day) and FBI agents (Kenan Thompson, Ego Nwodim, Bowen Yang) give a press briefing on their search for more classified documents.

  2. also

Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che tackle the week’s biggest news, like Mike Pence saying he is “ready and willing to fully cooperate” with any questions about the classified documents found in his home.

    Document Dives

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Around 12 classified documents turned up at former Vice President Mike Pence’s Indiana home after more classified docs had been found at President Biden’s Delaware home. What’s next? Will classified docs be found at Washington’s Mt. Vernon, Jefferson’s Monticello or Lincoln’s log cabin?
After the Civil War, both Mt. Vernon and Monticello looked as disheveled and in disarray as Biden’s and Pence’s file keeping appear now.

The National Archives has now asked all former Presidents and Vice Presidents to search their offices and homes for any documents taken mistakenly and to return them. Exempt from that request is former President Jimmy Carter, not because of his age as the longest living U.S. President, but because the Presidential Records Act was passed after Carter left office.

  4. for those who are unfamiliar with and curious about the oscar-nominated “naatu naatu”

Lahari Telugu presents Naatu Naatu Full Video Song from RRR Telugu Movie. An M.M.Keeravaani Musical. Sung by Rahul Sipligunj & Kaala Bhairava.

  5. I had only heard the soundtrack from RRR.  The clip makes me think this will be the highlight of the Oscar-nominated songs performed next month.  As it’s the only upbeat nominee, it may win.  I’m pulling for the song from Everywhere, as I find it lyrically meaningful.

What is life? It’s an everything bagel.
    Now you know.

  6. Jack, that trio recorded an album called The Goat Rodeo Sessions that’s available to Apple Music subscribers. That song isn’t on it. Thanks for posting it.

  7. I accidently, passing by during channel changing, caught this sentence uttered by this fool: As per the classified documents issue Tuck Chodd actually said, “…Biden is in a slightly better position than Trump…”
That horribly no-good sniveling swine has to go.

Please, NBC, get Willie Geist to take his place. If you do I will watch it again.

  8. Yo Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Mark O’Conner teamed up on a wonderful album:  Appalachian Journey.  On this cut, they are joined by James Taylor for a Stephen Foster song.

  9. More fun with FB algorithm or how to mess with computers.  Although my frequent searches had shifted FB, YouTube and the google machine into presenting me ads in different languages, multiple different languages, and genre, nothing prepared me for yesterday’s barrage of ‘come to jesus’ (little j due to appearing to be scams for money) on all three.  What was extremely interesting results after a fb post I made about not being anti-Jesus before closing down yesterday evening.  Not a single religious ad, that after a constant barrage.  Now to see what I can stir up.

  10. I accidentally clicked on an ad at WAPO, thinking it was a news article.
I discovered a new word. “Aditorial ” An ad with an opinion I guess. BTW the spelling may be questionable as I hit the back button about 3 seconds after seeing the word.

  11. Renee, LOL
I really wish I could share that one with MrsJack, she was a Beatles fanatic.

  12. https://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2023/01/27/jesus-campaign-he-gets-us-superbowl-kansas-right-wing-lead-foreman-vpx.cnn

“A $100 million campaign, “He Gets Us,” that promotes Jesus Christ and his teachings is set to showcase its ads during the Super Bowl. It’s funded by anonymous donors acting through a nonprofit linked to staunchly conservative causes…”

Methinks this is a religious bait-and-switch scam. Who are all of these wealthy, anonymous donors?
    Since when are right-wingers pro-gay or pro-woman or pro-immigrant?
    Super Bowl ads aren’t cheap.

They’ve been airing for several months down here in hell.

“The Signatry is a global community and ministry dedicated to creating eternal impact through generosity across generations. Since our founding, we have facilitated more than $4 billion in transformational grants for nonprofits around the world.”

Here’s the money arm of “He Gets Us.”

I wish I believed that they were actually promoting acceptance of everyone. Call me a doubting Tomasa.

  14. BiD
    Nonprofits aren’t charities,
If you want to start you own nonprofit, here in Missouri it takes 3 people and $25. Been there , done that.
It takes a little more to get the IRS to recognize you as a charity (501c3) but not much more.
    Again BTDT
    Jack

  15. Who said anything about it being a charity?  I just don’t trust a conservative group who has decided it’s good PR to be inclusionary when they are not.

They are throwing a lot of money into it.  Money that could be used to help the homeless, and assist seniors and the growing numbers who are food insecure.

They are talking the talk, but they haven’t taken a single step, as far as I can tell.

  16. RR. I was too. 1st game wasn’t much of one. The 2nd – different kettle of fish. Worst few moments of the games were the Jesus ads.

  17. Yeah Pogo…. First game was sad.  Hell of a second game!

Jack… congrats on your team going to the Super Bowl… I’ll be rooting for them.
