“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad." "How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

WASHINGTON (AP) — Members of the House committee investigating the Capitol riot will hold another hearing June 21, this time focused on former President Donald Trump’s efforts to pressure state legislators and local election officials to change the results of the 2020 presidential election.
The hearing is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET on June 21. Before the event begins, the PBS NewsHour’s Nicole Ellis will held a live conversation with White House correspondent Laura Barrón-López to preview the proceedings. Watch both events in the player above.

Lawmakers indicated they will release more evidence about Donald Trump’s alleged effort to defraud supporters by fundraising off false claims of a stolen presidential election. They also pledged to provide pertinent material to the Justice Department by the end of the month for its criminal investigation.

    So, this happened.
“In June 2022, the Texas State Republican Convention adopted a resolution urging the Legislature to put a referendum before the people of Texas in November 2023 “to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation.”
    So, now I miss Scalia?
“If there were any doubt remaining after this matter, the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia set it to rest when he asked by a screenwriter in 2006 whether there was a legal basis for secession. In his response, he wrote: “The answer is clear,” Scalia wrote. “If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede. (Hence, in the Pledge of Allegiance, ‘one Nation, indivisible.’)”

  4. Summertime and the living is easy…

Looks like the heat is here for a while. After a cool weekend we’re looking at the 90s this week, and two more months of more heat to go. And those big old oceans are warmer than last year. Sounds like summer’s getting serious. Hurricane season is just around the corner.

    Summertime…

  5. And NOAA says hold on, it could be a ride.

Forecasters at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, a division of the National Weather Service, are predicting above-average hurricane activity this year — which would make it the seventh consecutive above-average hurricane season. NOAA’s outlook for the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season, which extends from June 1 to November 30, predicts a 65% chance of an above-normal season, a 25% chance of a near-normal season and a 10% chance of a below-normal season.

For the 2022 hurricane season, NOAA is forecasting a likely range of 14 to 21 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 3 to 6 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). NOAA provides these ranges with a 70% confidence.

Those in the south and East should keep a rain jacket handy.

  6. There is a rumor that summer may finally arrive in Washington. I guess almost seven months of cold, overcast and rain was enough.

  7. I just set a new record for a tank of gas in my car. $126. That breaks the old record by 26 Bucks. And no I am not voting for a Republican in the 2022 midterms for the 2024 presidential election.

  8. I have a friend that is leaving shortly for a much anticipated trip to Iceland.  She told me that gas is around $9 a gallon there.  Hey… if that’s Biden’s fault… than he’s a friggin’ genius to have that much power.

  9. Renee, it was $5.35 here – and it’s not Biden’s fault.  We saw highish prices – $3.69 – back in 2013. Politico reported in April, 2020 that in order to make his US oil production and refinery donors happy Trump pressured his blood buddies (the Saudis and Russia) to sharply reduce production and exports of crude because US producers couldn’t compete and make money if the world crude supply remained high.  One number that was bandied about was that they reduce production by 25%.  They did – Brent crude surged 25%.  Gas prices were below $2/gallon ($1.96) in – wait for it – April, 2020, they rose to $2.26 by the end of the year and they took off from there.    And bear in mind that for the 3 years before that Dumbass was trying to drown the Saudis and UAE with advanced weapons systems to grease the skids on the front end of the quid pro for the quo of reduced oil production in 2020. BTW, I am not hanging today’s prices around Dumbass’ neck, but he does bear a responsibility for getting the price increase in gasoline started.

  10. Today’s hearing had more than a few bombshells.  The most heartrending were from the Georgia poll workers who suffered at the hands of Trump supporters. We cannot have a democracy without the citizens willing to do all the clerical work necessary to oversee and process votes.

  11. The absolute best part to me were the words:

    “A Ginger Mint.”

Growing up where I did…..and how I did……I could hear every bit of emotion in that lady’s heart vibrating thru those 3 words. Those words were dripping with it.

  12. Most effective evidence today is how Trump violated the Mob boss rule to stay silent in the background. He was on several calls to state officials pressuring them to violate laws.

  13. I liked  the part where we were told  a  Repub won a house seat with 33,000 more votes than  Orange Adolf.
That thousands of GOP voters  just skipped  the top of the thicket.

  14. Craig – I put the idiot doing the push as another sign the guy should not be allowed in public without a gag, handcuffs and leg irons.  He did break the mob boss rules, many times, because he was allowed to think he is untouchable.  That has been supported for decades as he was not convicted and punished.

  15. Counter terrorism guy on Nicole’s show just promised great things from the committee on the status of the right wing militia-white supremacist jerk-offs.

  16. The white militia supremacist guys have fucked around and the Feds are about to let them find out.   Yeah, there may be some actual hardcases out there but most will throw their little guns in the ditch and cry about it.

What’s this I hear about a “confidential informant” in the “proud boys”………geez, that sounds like “Law and Order”.

  17. Nasa is shutting down  the Voyager probes  .
     Goodbye little buddies.
One day we will  get a signal  from deep space  …………

” SEND MORE CHUCK BERRY ”

  18. Proud boys, Patriot Front, Oath Keepers…….what are these guys, like 12 years old?

  19. Ha ha…….Next  thing you know they’ll be rocking on bandstand, philadelphia P-A

  20. Texas GOP’s new platform calls gay people ‘abnormal’ and rejects trans identities
The new platform follows a series of headline-generating anti-LGBTQ policies proposed by Texas lawmakers.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-politics-and-policy/texas-gops-new-platform-calls-gay-people-abnormal-rejects-trans-identi-rcna34530

Let’s go to Da Vinci ……..
The bastard , left handed , gay son of a low class mother .
History is full of “Abnormal” people that made the world a better place .
Being left handed at that time was a real strike against you.
    Witch stuff and all that.

  21. Back to the Voyager probes , and that Gold record.
There was huge stink about the  naked man and woman  on it.
If you go look at it , you get more info from Ken and Barbie than  what Carl Sagan got on that disc .

  22. Can any of those MAGAts (and tRUMPsky) be charged with slander, defamation of character, etc., against any of today’s witnesses?

  23. At every hearing  , I find myself  hating that gang  of grifters  even more.

And to think when he was on that bus telling  how rich guys can treat women, I knew he was cooked.

    Madness , Madness.

Jon  Stewart  gets the Mark Twain Prize tonight  PBS

  24. Sometime during the nineties:
    ”…a vast right wing conspiracy”.

  25. OK, then.  Bombard tRUMP with so many civil suits that he’ll never see the light of day.   And, Rudy?   Rudy is going to go down hard.

  26. Funny- i was just thinking about how Jon Stewart bears some responsibility for the toxic state of contemporary political discourse

i’m pretty sure he agrees fwiw which is why you don’t hear much from him, anymore

  27. …certainly appreciate his outreach on behalf of veterans and first-responders🫡

  28. Oh, speaking of comedy, Norm’s deathbed special on Netflix was funny, charming, and sad.  It was nice to see he wasn’t bitter and still had a goofy sense of humor even staring death in the face
