Today’s April is more than a TAXing Day

P.S. Unless you’re in MA or ME when it’s tomorrow.

“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad." "How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

  1. also raining BS in PA according to john oliver

    dailybeast:

    […]
Oliver proceeded to describe Dr. Oz’s Senate campaign as “a shitshow,” including the revelation that Dr. Oz has apparently not spent much time at all living in Pennsylvania.
“For years, he’s lived in New Jersey, and his social media still frequently shows him at his North Jersey mansion, so he is running for office in a state that he doesn’t seem to want to live in—a savvy political move known as the ‘Eric Adams Special,’” offered Oliver.
The late-night host then revealed that Dr. Oz’s show shot in the same studio as his and that Dr. Oz’s offices were right across from Last Week Tonight’s, leading Oliver’s staff to position a giant alligator giving the middle finger at Dr. Oz’s office. One of Dr. Oz’s biggest campaign kinks is making TikTok videos of himself filling up his car with gas and then blaming Biden and the Democrats for the high prices.
“Look, gas prices are a real concern, but Dr. Oz is worth over $100 million, so it’s a little weird for him to act like it’s specifically straining his budget,” said Oliver. “But maybe he’s only posting those videos to push slightly less relatable content further down his page like, I don’t know, this one.”

He then threw to a video Dr. Oz posted of himself wakeboarding in Italy accompanied by the caption “Surfin’ through #Italy like” and set to the tune of “Oooh Ahh (My Life Be Like)” by Grits.

“And the truth is, that is what his life be like because he’s fucking rich, which means he gets to do stuff like that,” Oliver explained. “What he doesn’t get to do, though, is stand in front of gas pumps and pretend he’s personally affected by those numbers.”
He continued: “I talked a lot of shit about The Dr. Oz Show and I did because it was unremittingly terrible. But what is now clear is that I didn’t appreciate just how hard his staff had to work every day to make sure it wasn’t even worse. He had to abandon his show to go run for Senate, and if any of his staff are coming back to our office in the coming weeks to clear their stuff out, we’ve actually left a new special message for them on our alligator: ‘I’m sorry, he seems like a fucking nightmare.’ Because he does.”

  2. Have you ever heard of “adopt a grandparent” program?  Some are for high school students to visit assisted living facilities or nursing homes and make a old person a grandparent in their lives.  Others are for a young family who lost parents, grandparents to their children, to adopt an older couple, who may have lost their children or were childless.  It is to fill each others families with something they do not have.

Yesterday, Easter Sunday, I met the young family my brother and sister-in-law have adopted.  It was interesting to see young children, four year old identical twins, playing in the great room.  Ah yes, they could have been my grandchildren, or even my great-grandchildren.  But, after a few hours of non-stop action it was nice to say goodbye.  I could see in my sister-in-laws eyes that she needed to have the children around and the young parents to fill a need in her life.  The young parents have their need to have parents and the children, they talked about how their grandparents were gone, have grandparents.  It was very interesting.

  3. Dr. Oz… Sigh. What a charlatan. Eat this, and take these and be well. If only it was that easy. Typical Republican – we sure he didn’t move to PA from Hamlin?

  4. 2 unrelated questions:

    1.  why are pundits beating the drums on ukraine needs to make concessions, needs to give up something to stop Putin’s war?

the thousands of ukrainian dead civilians are more than enough to give up IMHO.

    2.  why and what’s behind (other than GOP wanting to take back the senate – which is “duh” obvious) all the leaks to push the press on reporting dementia in the lady from CA, only her and not the senile men there?

  5. Republicans have become Russians and they only want to steal power so they can whack people they don’t like (basically everybody) with a stick.

  6. So I hear the IRS is desperately trying to hire 10000 folks to process tx returns (if I understood correctly) eventually (good luck with this year).  Problem is that they are hiring in MO, TX and Utah – three places I have really never aspired toward living in.

And in weather news – this jet stream shift is giving us my least favorite weather (or close to it) this morning – 40 degrees and raining. I’d almost rather be in MO, TX or UT.

And finally, all 4 hatchlings in the grill are doing fine – I peaked in yesterday and there they were- little beaks open waiting for Mama to drop food in.  I should get my grill back for use by the end of the month. Took your advice Sturg and am letting Mama and the kids figure it out.

  7. Patd, good questions.  I totally agree on the Uke comments – Fuggem.
Send more and better arms. Who they gonna put up to counter Feinstein in their utterly stupid attacks?  Grassley? (On the dust to dust threshold) Mike Lee? (No, that won’t work – he’ll be in the house testifying). John Kennedy?  (Give me a break).

  8. It’s Patriots Day in Massachusetts…  we get the bad weather tomorrow… today is an excellent day for the running of the Boston Marathon.

Our taxes were done a month ago and the money has been deposited in our checking account.  Spent some of it yesterday.  My sister is here from Queens and we took her to a local restaurant that does an awesome Easter buffet brunch.  Eggs benny and smoked salmon…   YUM!

  9. We went to Chez Pogo yesterday.  Roast leg of lamb, large chunk mirepoix, sweet potatoes – as you said Renee, YUM! (And plenty of leftovers for future yums).

  10. I’d say the first creditors’ meeting in that Jones bankruptcy (I assume the Bankruptcy Court will consolidate the 3) should be fun.  Love to see the slimy prick’s lawyers try to explain why it shouldn’t be a Chapter 7.

  11. I know today is a day to complain about our government but having followed the world news lately complaining seems kind of silly and whineish. My spell check refuses to recognize that last word, did I just add to the English language?
    Jack

  12. I’m assuming Jones’s bankruptcy filings have more to do with mega million law suits he is either experiencing or anticipating.  It can’t be that the idiots have quit sending him money, as the TV preachers have proved, they never do that.
    Jack

  13. Craig
I’m reminded of a job I had back in the early 70 during my first attempt at college. I was a night janitor at one of the Ma Bell companies. They had this large room filled with these huge computers. For the most part all they did was do payroll and inventory. Something 20 years later would be done on a desktop. Now a days your phone probably has more computing power.
As I was reminde yesterday, hanging around the young people who are not that young any more, Time flys.

  14. The father of one of the young conscripts who went missing on the Moskva missile cruiser lashes out at the Russian military who are even refusing to tell him what happened to his son.

  15. Another fun fact about the development of  the “Radar Range” at  Raytheon:
The engineer that first stumbled on  the idea , was working near one of  the running cathode tubes , it melted the Hersey Bar in his shirt pocket.
Then there’s that time Jamie pointed out that every American city once had a windowless building full of women , running the phone system.

  16. Craig –
Last I heard the Russians had 13 mobile crematoriums working in Ukraine.  They’re gonna need a lot more before this is over.

  20. Victimhood is extremely important for all autocrats. They always have to be the biggest victim.
The One Way History Shows Trump’s Personality Cult Will End

In the summer of 2020, Ruth Ben-Ghiat was putting the final touches on her history of modern autocracy. She had to do it, though, without the benefit of knowing whether one of her most important subjects would remain in power come November.
But she wasn’t exactly in the dark either.

  27. Earth Week  –

Green washing  on CBS this  Morning
2 New  Nukes  being built in Ga,  they are 28 Billion  over budget.  For that money  Ga. Power  could have roofed every  Walmart in America  with solar panels , and the batteries to run them  24/7 .
And above all  there is no answer  where  are we going to  bury these spent fuel rods. These things will kill you  24,000 years from today , and the world has thousands of tons of them . All of them sitting  in swimming pools, waiting for our answer.
So remember , when they tell you Nukes are “clean” power.  They are lying.
We are shipping some of the most terrible waste of our time into the future.
We are shipping  a lot of terrible waste  into the future.

Remember this , humans are conducting an uncontrolled  experiment on the Earth.  And 97% of all life that ever lived  is now gone.  It is sleeping in the rocks.
This is not about life on Earth , it’s ABOUNT  US ON EARTH.

  29. Craig –

  31. I’m worried Ukraine can’t win this without us on the ground and in the air -CC

Novel Russian financial maneuvering to mitigate the economic damage from Western sanctions should stop working, any day, now, and Russia’s economy is going to collapse, unless China wants to continue propping it, and Putin, up

  32. If we win WWWW I , we  could see 3 Russian Whores pissing on Trump.  In living color.  Beating  him with rolled up copies of “Barely Legal Turnip Lovers”
