“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad." "How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

  1. I forgot to watch the Olympics yesterday. I’m not terribly invested in team USA, although I’ve already watched more than I did of last summer’s games. So far, I find the highlight reel to be sufficient.

  2. isn’t this just another admission there was a crime committed?

    mediaite:

“My head’s blowing up,” Bannon added, “I can’t take Pence and Marc Short and all these Koch guys ratting out president Trump up on Capitol Hill right now.”

  3. Bit humorous to see the rats all ratting. The rat lines are out. The rats are not leaving the ship, they’ve taken over. It’s a Rat Mutiny.

  4. add another crime to the ever growing list

National Archives had to retrieve Trump White House records from Mar-a-Lago – The Washington Post

President Donald Trump improperly removed multiple boxes from the White House that were retrieved by the National Archives and Records Administration last month from his Mar-a-Lago residence because they contained documents and other items that should have been turned over to the agency, according to three people familiar with the visit.
The recovery of the boxes from Trump’s Florida resort raises new concerns about his adherence to the Presidential Records Act, which requires the preservation of memos, letters, notes, emails, faxes and other written communications related to a president’s official duties.

  5. I’ve been watching bits of the Olympics.  I don’t like NBC’s coverage at all…. still too much geo political comments and last night they were playing commercials side by side with the coverage of the women’s giant slalom after the American skier crashed out.  I’m also having a hard time with no fans in the stands when watching the ice skating…  no oohing or aahing after a beautiful jump makes it kinda boring for me.

Also…  some of the competition is on very late at night here on the east coast.  I agree with BiD… catching the highlights is fine.

  6. Probably should have seen this coming.  Wapo Early 202.

Good morning, Early Birds. If you missed it this weekend: Read Ashley Parker, Josh Dawsey, Tom Hamburger and Jackie’s definitive history of Donald Trump “ripping things up.” And send us your tips: earlytips@washpost.com. Thanks for waking up with us.

    At Mar-a-Lago

Scoop: Boxes of presidential records found at Trump’s Florida resort

Pandora’s box(es)?: President Donald Trump improperly removed multiple boxes from the White House that were last month retrieved by the National Archives and Records Administration from his Mar-a-Lago residence because they contained documents and other items that should have been turned over to the office, JackieJosh DawseyTom Hamburger, and Ashley Parker report in a scoop this morning.

The recovery of the boxes from Trump’s Florida resort raises new concerns about whether Trump preserved memos, letters, notes, emails, faxes and other written communications related to a president’s official duties, as the Presidential Records Act requires.

And it comes as our colleagues revealed that some records from the Archives delivered to the House committee probing the Jan. 6 insurrection were torn apart and pieced back together, mirroring a Trump habit several of his former aides called troubling.

Responding to the discovery of the boxes at Mar-a-Lago, Trump advisers denied any nefarious intent and said the boxes contained mementos, gifts, letters from world leaders and other correspondence. The items included correspondence with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which Trump once described as “love letters,” as well as a letter left for him by former President Barack Obama, according to two people familiar with their contents.

Dropping the mic:“Things that are national security sensitive or very clearly government documents should have been a part of a first sweep — so the fact that it’s been this long doesn’t reflect well on [Trump],” said a member of the White House Counsel’s Office under Obama. “Why has it taken for a year for these boxes to get there? And are there more boxes?”
    …Continues….

With news breaking over the weekend that he put documents in a burn bag to go to the Pentagon for destruction, who could possibly suspet there might be more documents that are on the lam?

  7. I can hear Abe whispering from the cloud…….This time don’t let ’em up quite as easy……..

  8. So……they absconded with boxes and boxes of papers?    hmmmmmm.
    Pentagonic burn barrel?
If this isn’t something I don’t know what is.

  9. No surprise! But weirdly there’s no enforcement mechanism or even real punishment in presidential records act, toothless law

“Trump improperly removed boxes of records from White House, according to people familiar with National Archives visit to Mar-a-Lago.”

  10. So the fuel flap flap for Mrs. P’s car is over if not solved.  Took the car into the dealer first thing this morning to see if they could figure it out.  Did so with some misgivings since this is the same dealer that I took my car in for one of the big services while it was still under warranty (not covered but not a bad idea) that generally cost an arm and a leg and they lowered the car onto one of the upright tool boxes in the shop and had to replace the front bumper cover, a headlight and the hood.  Anyway, back to the flap.  Service manager tried to open it and couldn’t.  Other service guy tried to open it and he couldn’t.  Service manager said “I better call Mike.”  So Mike comes out of the garage and walks over to the car and pushes on the flap in the same spot Service mgr., other mechanic and I had pushed and, yep, you guessed it.  It opened.  Guy is some kind of automobile whisperer or something.  I gave him the swami bow and drove off to fill ‘er up.  I guess I’ll have to give those guys some business –  warranty work and such.

So the internet of course was abuzz over Mikaela Shiffrin slipping down on the 4th gate in the first run of the women’s GS.  Other than gathering a DNF she was unscathed and able to ski down to get ready to ski in the upcoming women’s slalom event.  Not so for her teammate, Nina O’Brien, who also crashed in the GS, on literally the last gate of her 2nd run and had to be taken off by stretcher, and if the photo at Wapo is any indication had her left foot go 90 degrees to the left (relative to her knee) so she’s probably out of the Olympics and will be sidelined for a while while trying to let the spiral fracture of her tib-fib heal.

  11. sorry about 1st post video not working. just now saw it and replaced it with a hopefully workable link.  the cartoon that followed with putie’s arms lovingly encircling Xi was meant to be a funny reflection of the skaters’ pose in the NBC vid which looked like this

    see the resemblance?

  12. Not sure whether I just missed it or the article I quoted above has been updated, but the subtitle is now

The recovery of 15 boxes from Trump’s Florida resort, including letters from Barack Obama and Kim Jong Un, underscores the previous administration’s cavalier handling of presidential records

15 boxes?  Depending on how they are loaded, Banker’s Boxes hold about a good 2500 pages of paper (half the 10 reams of paper they could hold as it comes when bundled new).  At least that’s about what ours hold. So assuming that’s in the ballpark and it’s bankers’ boxes they are referring to, could be somewhere north of 35,000 pages.  Does anyone believe that dumbass has read 35,000 pages of anything in his miserable life?

  13. Now here’s an utter tragedy coming from the Covid pandeminc.

England’s oldest pub, possibly 1,229 years old, shuts doors due to coronavirus hardships

Ye Olde Fighting Cocks has survived civil and world wars, famine and the spread of the bubonic plague

LONDON – The Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub in St. Albans, England, has seen it all: Since its first brick was laid, possibly as early as 793, near the ruins of an ancient Roman city well before the United Kingdom was formed, the drinking house has survived civil and world wars, famine and the spread of the bubonic plague.

But hardships brought on by the coronavirus pandemic mean the pub — which Guinness World Records has reportedly calledEngland’s oldest, though others contest that title — is shutting its doors.

Christo Tofalli, who took over the lease of the heavily beamed pub in 2012, told The Washington Postthat the pandemic and the government’s public health restrictions squeezed his business until he couldn’t meet its financial obligations.

Its insolvency leaves Mitchells & Butlers, which owns the pub, open to seeking new management of the possibly more-than-1,200-year-old business.
    … Continues …

    Now that’s just plain awful.
