thanks to joe, that diversity isn’t just limited to defense posts.
President Joe Biden promised his Cabinet would be the most diverse in history. Recently released data revealed his progress.
After saying he wanted his administration to “look like America” in December last year, the 78-year-old president has mostly succeeded in his plan to diversify the executive branch, according to an analysis by Insider in February.
As the country tries to emerge from the worst economic crisis since the 1930s, Biden has installed a diverse team to forward his economic and business agenda, which includes tackling entrenched inequities.
Among them, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen as the first woman to lead the department in its 231-year history, Cecilia Rouse as the first African American to chair of the Council of Economic Advisors, and Pete Buttigieg as the first openly gay cabinet member in his role as transportation secretary.

Two months after President Joe Biden took office, he sat down for his first meeting with his Cabinet and proclaimed that the group, handpicked by him and largely confirmed by the Senate, “looked like America.”
The push for diverse Cabinet secretaries intensified early on from leaders and politicians of color, all of whom wanted Biden to either give more representation to specific communities of color, or to move away from typecasting certain communities of color into specific leadership roles. The specter of the Trump administration — whose Cabinet remained largely male and white and whose head of state leaned into racist rhetoricagainst detractors and political opponents during his tenure — also hung over Biden’s head as he formed his administration.
An NBC analysis of all Cabinet-level members from the past four administrations found that Biden’s cabinet has the highest percentage of women heading Cabinet-level departments; as well as secretaries, administrators and directors of color compared to his predecessors overall. Close to half of his current Cabinet are women; half of his current Cabinet self-identify as Black, Latino, Asian American, Native American or multiracial.

Mitt Romney (R-Utah) blasted political extremes on the left and right during his acceptance speech for the John F. Kennedy Library’s “Profile in Courage” award. In a virtual speech, Romney said many have been disappointed by those “who’ve chosen the easy way, playing to the crowd, itching the ears of the resentful with conspiracies and accusations.” “I take heart in the fact that such displays are still newsworthy and are generally met with disdain,” he said. Romney continued that many are “guilty of a fault less reprehensible though similarly consequential.” He accused the right of spreading false claims about elections, tech and vaccine falsities, while accusing the left of “hyper-woke” accusations. “Some of us on the right infect the nation with claims of election fraud, tech and media outrages, even vaccine fantasies. From the left come hyper-woke accusations and antipathy towards free enterprise, the very means of our prosperity,” he continued. […] Romney was presented the award for being the first U.S. senator to vote to convict a president of their own political party on an impeachment charge. [continues]
A sad note to the day, Rusty Warren has died. She was a touch too much fun for Sixties era television, the censors would have never let her act survive on any program. Knockers Up was a fine example of her work.
“hyper-woke” Umm, I’ve said it before, when an old, white dude complains using any form of “woke,” it’s a dog whistle to racists.
Willard doesn’t admit it’s not “antipathy towards free enterprise.” It’s business owners wanting free labor. Less for employees means more for their own pockets, so if they aren’t mandated to pay, they won’t. Apparently, Mitt doesn’t want a strong middle class. Well, he did help found Staples, which drove a lot of small folks out of business; like all superstores, its cash cow is finding vendors for shipment infractions, even when there are hurricanes and blizzards to blame. All of those superstores would show very different “profitability” if they didn’t have non-compliance programs. ~free enterprise~

But they say it’s too early to assess whether a criminal indictment against Trump — or even a conviction — will inflict any serious damage on Trump’s popularity among Republican-leaning white working-class voters who are the core of his base.
One Senate Republican who requested anonymity said Trump would have to be “in jail” to be neutralized as a political force.
“It’s one thing if someone’s in jail,” the source said, predicting that otherwise Trump will be able to paint any criminal investigations of his business practices as political retribution.

WASHINGTON — The Senate has been mulling the future of the filibuster for months, but votes on Thursday votes could finally push that discussion from the theoretical to the practical, and proponents of nuking the 60-vote threshold believe it could fuel their cause.
Two major pieces of legislation before the Senate could be blocked this week by Republicans, the first time the filibuster has been invoked since Democrats took control of the Senate in January.
[…]
The Senate is scheduled to hold a series of votes Thursday on the China bill. Depending on the outcome, they could vote afterward on the Jan. 6 commission.
The China legislation impasse comes as Democrats are also being stymied by Republicans on the creation of an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, potentially setting up the first two filibusters of the current session.
The confluence of the two issues comes at a critical time, when bipartisan negotiations are ongoing on a variety of issues, including infrastructure, policing reform, gun control and immigration. Senators and aides say the action on the Senate floor this week could determine if bipartisanship on those issues is possible.
“What they’re going to do and how cooperative they’ll be impacts the willingness to cooperate on the next thing,” Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., said.
[…]
“It certainly forces the issue,” Jentleson said. “We don’t have much time to chase fantasies of getting to 60 on things like voting rights. Seeing Republicans filibuster this bill should speed up Democrats’ realization that the fate of our democracy rests on whether they end the filibuster.”
“If we can’t even get a bipartisan commission to investigate an insurrection, then the filibuster has to go,” said Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said failure to approve an independent commission to investigate the “insurrection” would illustrate to Democrats that Republicans aren’t interested in protecting the country.
“If the Jan. 6 commission can’t make it through the Senate it’s further evidence of how the filibuster under Mitch McConnell is strangling our democracy,” she said

There’s just enough time left for Biden to blame the remarkable surge in crime stats on Trump. Numbers are not good and GOP gonna hammer Dems for it in the midterms.
Amazon is buying MGM, which will give Jeff Bezos ownership of The Apprentice outtakes, which include all of Trump’s racist tirades. Expect it to air on Amazon Prime?

So, little sister , and Captain Karl are bound for Pitkin , Colorado after work tomorrow . The Captain has worked everyday this month.
He runs the food program for a huge retirement community. A nice one.
He can’t staff his needs, hence this crazy number of days , sticking his finger in the dike .
The big break on going back to work , ain’t that $300 bucks.
It’s child care.
I never been to Spain , but I’ve been to Tin Cup , Colorado.
The end of May, and walking through the bus exhaust to ride to Dangerfield , to see “Monk & Lourie” , for 3 or 4 weeks, for 6 years.
My uncle Monk sat up with my dad the night before he left for the war.
They were magic.
To this day , I like the smell of diesel , when I first smell it.
Like those Russian dogs , off to Dangerfield.
Monk sold butane , and stoves. He also was a plumber . Raised fish in his office , and house. Quail , and pheasant , a few pigs , and cows.
I was mowing his pasture on his butane power Ford Tractor when I was 10. (I nearly died on it the next summer)
A pine tree branch hit me in the face , nearly knocked me into the brush hog PTO . I was not ready for it.
My uncle Monk died on that tractor , they would not let aunt Lourie , see him.
craig, you’re right about dems needing to start countering GOP’s pasting the “defund the police” label on them. come up with some catchy sound bites and visuals accusing the GOPers of not only voting for NO funding in the 1st place but also showing no respect for those who literally put themselves in harms way to protect them everyday in the capitol and in their districts and while they travel.

My helper that day had done his job, gassed us up 45 gallons out of 500 gallon tank. It was dry.

We were in a small bowl with no wind the aspens were golden.

All of his sloppy work with the gas refueling was on fire , the fucking cap box was on fire ,
We had 370 lbs , of very nasty explosives , and 45 gallons of gasoline on fire. Along with the cap box.
That night I bought Trip a steak , we were still really jazzed.
